TSMC to suspend chip orders to Chinese supercomputing firms over US Sanctions

The US recently added new entities into its trade blacklist, which were from Chinese origin. Now, the impact of these sanctions are already showing effects as TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ) has suspended new chip orders from one of the newly blacklisted firms.

TSMC

According to a SCMP report, the world’s largest contract chip maker has stopped taking orders from Phytium Information Technology Co, which is one of the seven Chinese supercomputing related firms that were added to the US Entity List last week. As per a source close to the matter, the company will complete any existing orders that were placed before the Chinese firms were added to the blacklist over national security allegations.

Furthermore, a TSMC representative decline to comment on the matter but did state that the company would “abide by all the laws and regulations as always, and will operate according to the export restrictions.” Meanwhile, Phytium has yet to offer any statement regarding this matter. At the moment, while China is investing heavily in the development of its local semiconductor technology, it is still reliant on foreign technology and chips from overseas.

TSMC

The nation’s supercomputers use processors made by tech giants like Intel, AMD, and IBM. According to Francis Lau, a computer science professor at the University of Hong Kong, “The sanctions would definitely affect China’s ability to keep to its leading position in supercomputing because all current supercomputers use mostly US-built components. Although there are alternatives made by other countries such as Japan and [South] Korea, the best components are still by the US.”

DJI Air 2S launched as successor to the Mavic Air 2, starts at $999

DJI has officially unveiled its latest drone, the Air 2S, which is the successor of the Mavic Air 2 that was launched last year and was well-received. The DJI Air 2S offers greater depth with its camera, reflecting an overall improvement from its predecessor.DJI Air 2S

In terms of the specifications, DJI Air 2S features a better and larger 1-inch CMOS sensor and more outstanding resolution capabilities. The one-inch sensor offers significantly higher 2.4μm pixels, which is better than the 0.5-inch sensor on the Mavic Air 2, and its 0.8μm pixels. A bigger sensor implies that the Air 2S can capture up to 5.4K quality, far better than the Mavic Air 2.DJI Air 2S

The Air 2s weighs marginally higher than the Mavic Air 2, powered by a 3,500mAh battery which can sustain the device for about 31 minutes. Due to it being heavier by about 25g compared to the Mavic Air 2, the Air 2S has a marginally lower in-flight duration than the Air 2 that can work for 33 minutes.

Apart from its two sides, the DJI Air 2S drone can avoid obstacles when going up or down and forward or backward. With the industry-standard OcuSync featured in the device, the gadget has a maximum control range of 12km – slightly more than the Air 2.
There are a few other capabilities like the MasterShot, which can help you get more powerful shots.DJI Air 2S

The DJI Air 2S is already on sale on DJI’s official website. The product starts at $999 for the base package containing the drone, the battery, two pairs of propellers, and the DJI RC-N1 controller.

The power and volume keys on this headset will be located on the right side. Whereas, its left side will include the SIM card slot.

According to the certification, the TECNO KF6 / K56K will be a budget smartphone with 4G connectivity. It will ship with a TECNO U100TSA power adapter. That means the device will only support 10W charging.

Unfortunately, we are not aware of this handset’s marketing name as well as other specs.

TECNO AC8

The TECNO AC8 will be a PHANTOM series smartphone as per the label sketch on FCC. The phone’s back will have the PHANTOM branding and a vertically-aligned triple camera setup at the center.

Just like the device above, this one will also sport the power and volume keys on the right side. Also, it will be a 4G handset backed by a 4,600mAh (typical) battery with support for 33W fast charging. The TECNO U330TSA 33W fast charger will be included in the box.

The last TECNO PHANTOM series smartphone was TECNO PHANTOM 9. It was launched in July 2019. Hence, this phone could go official as TECNO PHANTOM 10.

However, as per rumors, the TECNO AC8 may launch as TECNO PHANTOM X.

Design

The Realme C25 and the Redmi 9 Prime do not come with a premium design, just like all the other entry-level phones. They have a body made of polycarbonate, but the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime has a water-repellent coating which is very nice if you want to use the phone in the rain. Both the phones come with a waterdrop notch instead of those modern punch-hole displays, and both offer a rear-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication. The Redmi 9 Prime is slightly more comfortable for one-handed use and to keep in a pocket: it is thinner and lighter thanks to its smaller battery.

Display

The Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime has a superior display for one single reason: the Full HD+ resolution. With a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, it offers a higher level of definition, the same as most of the midrange phones out there. The Realme C25, instead, comes with a below-average HD+ resolution (720p). Both are IPS panels with similar levels of brightness: the Realme C25 has slightly higher brightness, but the resolution is definitely a more important thing, so the Redmi 9 Prime wins the display comparison.

Specs & Software

If you need the most advanced hardware setup, you should choose the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime. It has a more powerful Helio G80, while the Realme C25 is powered by the Helio G70 chipset. However, the difference in performance is just marginal: the Helio G70 is not a disappointing chipset compared to the G80. The memory configurations are the same: 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of native storage depending on the chosen variant. The Redmi 9 Prime runs Android 10 out of the box, while the Realme C25 comes with Android 11. So, you will most likely get longer software support and a more advanced software department with the Realme C25.

Camera

The camera setup of the Realme C25 changes depending on the market. In the international market, the handset comes with a triple camera including a 48 MP main sensor which is definitely better than the 13 MP quad camera found on the Redmi 9 Prime. But the Indian version of the phone has an inferior 13 MP triple camera. If we consider the Indian version, then Redmi 9 Prime is a better camera phone because it adds an 8 MP ultrawide sensor. But if we talk about the international version, Realme C25 is better thanks to its great 48 MP main camera.

Battery

The Realme C25 has a bigger battery: with a capacity of 6000 mAh, it is able to provide stunning battery life and it even supports wireless charging. The Redmi 9 Prime lacks wireless charging support and comes with a battery capacity of 5020 mAh. Further, the higher resolution of the display makes the energy consumption higher. The Realme C25 is one of the best battery phones of the year, but Redmi 9 Prime is still great when it comes to battery life.

Price

The starting price of the Realme C25 is about €140/$168, while the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime starts from €106/$127 in the Indian market. If we exclude the display resolution, overall, the Realme C25 is a more convincing handset. But if you care about the resolution, you’d better go for the Redmi 9 Prime which also offers a slightly better chipset, while packing a smaller but still good battery.
