Asus 6z vs Oppo Reno 10x zoom vs OnePlus 7: Specs Comparison

After the success of the Zenfone 5z, Asus just launched the Zenfone 6 in the Indian market under a new moniker: Asus 6z. The handset has a lot of competition in the peninsula, especially in the affordable flagships segment. That is why it will be hard for people to choose the flagship with the highest value for money. With this post, we want to make your mind clearer by comparing the Asus 6z with other trending flagships in the Indian market. We believe that the Oppo Reno 10x zoom and the vanilla OnePlus 7 are the perfect candidate for a comparison like this, so here we go.

Design

As long as you do not hate the flip camera, Asus 6z is the smartphone with the most interesting design alongside the Oppo Reno 10x zoom. I would exclude the OnePlus 7 as it is the classic phone with a waterdrop notch and a glass back, it is not even available in the outstanding Nebula Blue color variant, unlike its Pro version. My favorite one is the Oppo Reno 10x zoom with its shark fin pop-up camera and a stunning glass back with a clean and gorgeous look. But Oppo Reno 10x zoom is all but a compact phone: Asus 6z is smaller and easier to keep in a pocket; that is something you should consider if you always travel.

Display

Despite its IPS panel that is all but trending nowadays, the Asus 6z has been praised for its amazing color reproduction thanks to the HDR standard and a 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage. The Oppo Reno 10x zoom only comes with high DCI-P3 coverage, as well as the OnePlus 7, but the Oppo’s flagship has a bigger display which may be very useful for those who are searching for a productivity phone for professional uses. Unfortunately, the display of the Asus 6z does not integrate a fingerprint reader: it is placed on the back of the phone, under the flip-up camera.

Hardware/Software

If you are deciding which device you want to buy from this trio, do not mind so much about the hardware department. They all have awesome flagship-class performances as they are all powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, and you can not expect a better SoC in 2019. Just note that OnePlus 7 does not have expandable storage, while Asus 6z and Oppo Reno 10x zoom do. Keep in mind that only the Asus 6z has a dedicated micro SD slot (allowing to use dual SIM slot at the same time) and it gives the chance to expand the internal storage up to 1 TB (Reno 10x zoom stops at 256 GB).

Camera

OIS, laser autofocus, periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and a bright focal aperture: Oppo Reno 10x zoom is one of the most amazing camera phones and it clicks gorgeous photos. It wins the camera comparison when it comes to camera quality, but Asus 6z is as interesting as the Oppo Reno 10x zoom for a simple reason: the flip-up camera. You can use the dual rear camera as a selfie camera too, but that is not all: you can regulate the position of the flip-up camera on several angles in order to shoot photos comfortably in almost every direction.

Battery

Asus 6z is the last-gen mainstream flagship with the biggest battery ever among the ones equipped with the Snapdragon 855 SoC. And it even has a great optimization in terms of energy consumption, so it is the perfect battery phone. It can also be used as a power bank thanks to reverse wireless charging. Right after, there is the Oppo Reno 10x zoom which still provides a long battery life (one day with most of the usages).

Price

Asus 6z carries a $450/€400 price tag in India, OnePlus 7 starts from €421/$472, and Oppo Reno 10x zoom costs €640/$720. Overall, Asus 6z definitely has the highest value for money, despite I define the Oppo Reno 10x zoom a slightly better handset for advanced users.

The new Peach Sea Salt Galaxy A60 is similar to the Pink-Blue Galaxy A8s FE but with the colors reversed. The announcement was made by the official Samsung China Weibo account yesterday. However, it wasn’t revealed when the new color variant will be available.

Xiaomi crowdfunds the Vifa City Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker with 2000mAH battery

Xiaomi has announced a new portable Bluetooth speaker dubbed Vifa City Portable Bluetooth Speaker under the Youpin crowdfunding platform. The gadget comes with a crowdfunding price of 699 yuan ($101) and a final retail price of 899 yuan ($130).

The wireless speaker isn’t a cheap product and that is mainly due to the audio technology at play and the brand quality offered by Vifa. The company Vifa is said to be a world-famous Danish audio brand founded in 1933 by Mr. N.C Madsen. The company started the first generation of Vifa electromagnetic unit in the famous city of Videbaek in Denmark, and has since then maintained its position as one of the “world leader in the electro-acoustic field”. The company also provides professional sound system support for more than 500 well-known brands around the world.Vifa City Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

The Vifa City Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker makes use of a coaxial speaker unit. The high-pitched part uses 15mm soft dome high-pitched diaphragm to make the middle and high frequency clear and delicate. While the bass part of the cone setup uses a rubber edge to provide better damping and distortion of the speaker. Despite the small size, the sound output is powerful.Vifa City Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

Also, the speaker uses a 65mm bass neodymium iron boron magnetic circuit system which has stronger magnetic energy than other magnetic circuit systems of the same size. The system also comprehensively enhances the overall sound pressure of the speaker unit.

Apart from playing music, the speaker also supports hands-free calling as it has a built-in microphone. The microphone reduces noise and echo, and has a high sensitivity, effectively eliminate the noise of the surrounding environment, making it possible to clearly hear the other party’s voice.

The Vifa City Bluetooth speaker is made of high-strength aluminium alloy and weighs only 0.3Kg. The device comes with IPX4 splash-proof and dustproof properties. Providing the power is a big 2000mAh battery which it says can last up t 12 hours at the middle volume level. The speaker is available in Sun Red and Emerald Green and is expected to start shipping on August 1.

Samsung reported to be planning a Galaxy Note10 Tesla Edition

Huawei is to Porsche (Design), OPPO is to Lamborghini, OnePlus is to McLaren, and Samsung is to……..well, Tesla, if the rumors are true. Yes, Samsung is said to be planning a Galaxy Note10 Tesla Edition.

A Chinese blogger shared a post on Weibo almost a week ago that the Korean phone giant will partner with Tesla to release a limited edition Galaxy Note10. The post even includes a render of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Tesla Edition

The phone has a gray brushed metal finish with red accents and a 3D Tesla logo sitting on the back. The S Pen is also mainly red with the upper third in gray.

We haven’t seen this get reported anywhere, so we advise you to take it with a grain of salt. However, it is also possible the info is genuine. Just before the Galaxy S10 launched, it was reported that there would be a red variant of the phone. While the source got the name wrong, Samsung did announce a Cardinal Red variant for the Galaxy S10 series.

It is possible, the source of this Galaxy Note10 Tesla Edition rumor is someone in the supply chain. And just like the Cardinal Red Galaxy S10, it may launch much later after the Galaxy Note10 Unpacked event.

The Galaxy Note10 should launch in August. It will have a Pro variant with quad-rear cameras while the standard version will have triple rear cameras. Both will have a centered punch hole display and be powered by the unannounced Exynos 9825 processor.

Samsung exec discloses that the Galaxy Fold is ready to ship!

You will recall that the  Samsung Galaxy Fold was already scheduled for release in April before a chain of events started happening which eventually led to the postponement of the Fold’s release. MIUI camera app confirms 64MP Xiaomi/Redmi camera phone in development

Samsung released a 64MP camera sensor recently and it is expected to show up in devices in the second half of the year. A Galaxy A series smartphone is said to be the first phone to come with the sensor. It has also been reported that Redmi is also working on a phone with the same sensor.  A recent finding in the MIUI camera app further confirms it.

64MP ISOCELL GW1

The discovery was made by XDA-Developer member kackskrz. He found strings that contained “64MP” and “Ultra-Pixel” in the latest MIUI Chinese developer ROM (version 9.6.17). He also found the text “64MP DUAL CAMERA” in one string, confirming the Redmi phone will come with dual rear cameras.

Redmi 64MP sensor

The 64MP sensor is the Samsung 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1. It has a pixel size of 0.8μm and a feature called 4-in-1 Tetracell technology a.k.a pixel binning. What this means is that 64MP shots are actually 16MP; or in the case of a 48MP camera, actually 12MP, With Pixel Binning, low-light images should be better. You should also be able to shoot in 64MP when you switch to the Pro Mode or are in well-illuminated areas.

The unknown Redmi phone is expected to be the first phone in China with a 64M camera. There aren’t any other details regarding the specs of the phone at the moment but more details should surface soon.

Leaked poster shows Xiaomi and Meitu’s first phone has flip triple cameras

Last year, Xiaomi and Meitu signed a partnership that will see Xiaomi manufacture and sell devices under the Meitu brand both at home and abroad. Xiaomi will also get a global license to use Meitu’s technologies and domain names. A poster has surfaced revealing what might be the first smartphone co-developed by the two companies.

The poster shows a Meitu branded phone with a flip camera similar to that of the ASUS Zenfone 6/ASUS 6z. However, unlike the ASUS, this has a bigger module since it has three rear cameras. Looking at it again, the design seems to be like a cross between the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the ASUS Zenfone 6.

Meitu Xiaomi Little Fairy phone

There are no details regarding the camera specs but we bet one of the cameras is a 48MP sensor. We are also pretty sure the phone will have some really amazing camera features for taking breathtaking selfies. To sum it up, this might just be the new selfie camera king if DxOMark reviews it.

With respect to design, the phone has a pink gradient finish, curved sides, and pink buttons on the right frame. You can already tell who the target market is.

Xiaomi + Meitu Little Fairy

The text on the poster translates to “Meitu” and “Little Fairy”. This is not the first place we have come across the name “Little Fairy”. A Weibo post from earlier today by Xiaomi’s Lin Bin also mentioned the name. In the post, he mentioned the name was formed from the collaboration between Xiaomi and Meitu.

We have no idea when this device will launch but we are pretty excited and we are sure you are too. Nevertheless, we sure will update you when we get more details.

iQOO Neo official teaser: has triple rear cameras and a waterdrop notch

A few weeks ago, we reported iQOO may launch a less-powerful variant of its gaming phone called the iQOO Youth Edition or iQOO Lite. It turns out we were wrong about the name. iQOO has released a poster revealing its next smartphone is called the iQOO Neo.

While the poster doesn’t expressly confirm that this is indeed a less-powerful variant of the iQOO gaming smartphone, the name pretty much does. If I remember correctly, the last time a manufacturer used the name “Neo” was for a less-powerful variant of the main device. That manufacturer is Samsung and the device is the Galaxy Note3 Neo, a lite version of the Galaxy Note 3.

iQOO Neo

The iQOO Neo has a waterdrop notch like the iQOO gaming smartphone. It also has triple rear cameras arranged vertically but unlike its sibling, its LED flash is also inside the housing for the cameras.

It will come in two color variants – Purple with a gradient design and Samurai Black. Unfortunately, the iQOO Neo doesn’t have an LED strip on its back like the iQOO gaming smartphone.

Previous reports say the phone will come with a Snapdragon 845 processor. It might be a year old already but only a handful of SoCs can outperform it. The phone is also said to have a 4000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and 128Gb of storage.

The iQOO Neo is believed to be the same device as the Vivo V1914A which was benchmarked in May. It runs Android 9, has 6GB of RAM and is powered by the Snapdragon 845. The same device was also certified by China’s 3C agency and the certificate revealed it has support for 22.5W fast charging. This is the same charging speed as the base model of the iQOO gaming smartphone. The other variants support 44W. Since the iQOO Neo is a lite version, it makes sense that it only supports 22.5W fast charging.

iQOO didn’t mention a release date for the phone but we expect it should be very close.

Huawei to offer 100% refund if Google and Facebook apps stop working

Recently, Huawei’s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that smartphone sales have plunged 40 percent and the company could miss its revenue numbers for the current year by as much as $30 billion.

To counter the situation of slowing down smartphone sales, Huawei has now come up with a warranty program that promises to fully refund Huawei smartphone’s price if popular apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Gmail, Instagram, etc. stops functioning on the device within two years of purchase.

huawei

The report, coming from Huawei Central claims that Huawei will give a full refund if its device can’t run Google and Facebook Apps. However, this first “special warranty” is only in the Philippines for now. With such a warranty, the company is attempting to maintain its smartphone sales and boost up customer’s confidence.

Huawei has also confirmed the offer and has stated that “it’s an initiative of our distributors with our dealers.” At these trying times, retailers and distributors in the Phillippines are supporting Huawei and over 30 partner retailers and dealers have become a part of this  “special warranty” program.

Given that the sales of the company’s smartphones are declining and customers are demanding refunds on Huawei phones they have already purchased, similar “special warranty” can be replicated to other markets as well.

Huawei held onto its number two spot for global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2019. However, the company is now losing ground to Samsung and Apple. Huawei’s CEO says that the company did expect that the U.S. would attack with such determination and on such a large scale.

The Chinese company had a flawless decade of growth and also broke the $100 billion revenue mark for the first time. But that growth record has now come to an end because of the ban by the United States. However, the company hopes to see a new life in 2021.

It is speculated that the Lenovo L78121 phone that was approved in May with 18W fast charging could be the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. The smartphone has appeared on TENAA, but the specifications and images are still not available yet. Today, the Lenovo L78121 has appeared on Geekbench to confirm some of its key specs.

The Geekbench listing of the Lenovo L78121 has revealed that it will come preloaded with Android 9 Pie OS. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core processor that clocks at 1.8 GHz. The SoC is supported by 8 GB of RAM. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the Lenovo L78121 has respectively scored 2556 and 6763 points.

Lenovo Z6 Geekbench

The Lenovo Z6 will be positioned between the Lenovo Z6 Pro flagship phone that is powered by Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and Lenovo Z6 Youth Edition that is driven by the Snapdragon 710 chipset. Hence, there is a possibility that a processor that is more powerful than the SD710 may fuel the Lenovo Z6. Rumors have it that the Lenovo Z6 could be featuring the 8nm Snapdragon 730 chipset. It is the very same SoC that powers the Samsung Galaxy A80 and Xiaomi Mi 9T smartphones.

The Snapdragon 730 comprises of dual Kryo 470 cores working at 2.2 GHz and hexa Kryo 470 cores clocking at 1.8 GHz. Since the base frequency in the Geekbench listing of Lenovo L78121 is mentioned as 1.8 GHz, there is a possibility that it could be indeed powered by SD730. The Geekbench listings of Samsung Galaxy A80 and Xiaomi Mi 9T have no mentioning of sdm730 or Snapdragon 730 in the motherboard field. However, their base frequencies are mentioned as 1.8 GHz. More the single-core and multi-core scores of the Lenovo L78121 are similar to Galaxy A80 and Mi 9T.

Oppo could exhibit under-display camera prototype at MWC 2019 Shanghai

Earlier this month, Brian Shen, Vice President of China-based smartphone maker Oppo, took to Weibo to share a video clip of an early engineering model the company’s first under-display camera technology.

Oppo has today announced that it will be participating in the MWC 2019 Shanghai which will be held from 26th June to 29th June. The poster released by the company hints that it will be showcasing its under-display camera technology at the conference.

Oppo MWC19 Shanghai

In a short video clip previously shared by the company on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, a phone with an under-display camera was shown. It has a front-facing camera that doesn’t need a notch, teardrop, hole punch, pop-up, or even sliding mechanism and keeps the edge-to-edge display uninterrupted.

At that time, Brian Shen had said that the under-screen camera technology is still in its early days. He added, “At this stage, it’s difficult for under-display cameras to match the same results as normal cameras, there’s bound to be some loss in optical quality. But, no new technology jumps to perfection right away.”

Currently, there no more information available about this futuristic technology but hopefully that could change when the company takes the stage at MWC19 Shanghai. We expect Oppo to shed more light on this technology when it showcases the under-display camera tech at the conference.

Notably, Oppo isn’t the only smartphone manufacturer working on a technology that puts the front-facing camera inside the phone’s display. Other manufacturers like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung are also working on the same.

In fact, just hours after Oppo shared a video of its technology, another Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi also showcased its own under-display camera technology. The video shows a modified Mi 9 smartphone with a working selfie camera under the display. This technology could be a key feature of the next-gen Mi MIX smartphone.

Samsung patents a smartphone design with dual displays

Most smartphone manufacturers aim to offer a full-screen smartphone without any kind of notches on top of the display. To achieve this, companies experimented with various designs, including a rotating camera, pop-up camera, and a flip camera.

Some smartphone makers decided to put a secondary display on the phone’s back panel so that the main camera setup on the back of the phone can be used as a front-facing camera as well. Examples of such phones include Vivo NEX Dual Display and ZTE’s Nubia X.

Now, it seems that after experimenting with a rotating camera with the Samsung Galaxy A80, the company is now planning to launch a new Galaxy A-series smartphone having dual displays. The South Korean giant has patented a new smartphone design that has two display panels.

Samsung Dual Display Smartphone Patent

A patent for the Samsung Galaxy smartphone with a secondary display on the back was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the WIPO World Intellectual Property Office.

The images attached with the patent shows that the phone has a full-screen display on the front side that covers most of the phone’s front side. Also, there’s no front-facing camera. On the back side, there’s a secondary display which is about half the size of the primary display on the front side.

The half-sized secondary display is placed on the top part of the back panel, allowing users to hold the smartphone as they normally do, without causing any kinds of fingerprint marks and smudges. From the size of the display, it seems that the primary aim is to allow users to take selfies. And given that it’s just a patent filing, no description about this has been provided by the company.

Further, the patent reveals that when the front or the rear display is not in use, it can be turned off automatically to save the battery capacity. The display can then be turned on again when any activity takes place, for instance, a touch input.

Samsung has been experimenting a lot with the newly revamped Galaxy A series and thus, it’s more likely that the smartphone with the dual display design could get launched as a part of the Samsung Galaxy A lineup.
