Samsung Galaxy A90 concept render imagines what Samsung’s first pop-up camera phone may look like

The Vivo NEX was the first smartphone to launch with a pop-up selfie camera. In a few weeks, Vivo will launch its second commercially available smartphone with a pop-up camera – the Vivo V15 Pro. However, it likely won’t be the only pop-up selfie camera phone we are getting from a top manufacturer this year. It has been reported that the Samsung Galaxy A90 will also have a pop-up selfie camera. Concept renders of the device have now surfaced online.

The pop-up selfie camera design is supposed to result in a phone with a very high screen-to-body ratio. For the Galaxy A90, it will be interesting to see if it has a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Galaxy S10 which has a punch hole display or as Samsung calls it, an Infinity-O display.

Samsung Galaxy A90 concept render

These renders show that there is still a lower bezel though not a thick one. There are actually two designs for the pop-up selfie camera: one has the camera positioned on the left of the phone’s display just like that of the Vivo NEX while the other has the camera positioned in the middle.

The phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner which has already been reported to be a feature of three Galaxy A-series phones scheduled to launch this year. The Galaxy A90 is one of the devices, so it is no surprise that the designer has included it in these renders.

On its rear, the concept Galaxy A90 has three cameras stacked on top of one another and positioned in the middle of the device. The sensors all share the same housing and there is an LED flash below the setup. The manufacturer’s branding sits a few millimeters beneath it.

The images show the phone in a gradient purple finish but a leak from a few weeks ago said the Galaxy A90 will come in black, silver, and gold color variants. It has also been reported to come in only one storage configuration – 128GB.

New Indian law prevents retailer exclusivity for products

When a phone launches in India, it is not unusual to hear manufacturers say the phone is exclusive to a particular retailer such as Flipkart and Amazon. A new law in India has put an end to this practice.

Amazon Flipkart Walmartjpg

According to reports, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion which is under India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry modified the policy of Foreign Direct Investment in India (FDI). The new policy brings new changes which took effect on February 1.

The policy prevents owners of e-commerce websites from selling products via vendors they have equity in. For example, Amazon can’t sell products through Cloudtail India which it has equity in and is one of the largest sellers on the platform. This means several Amazon items such as Amazon Echos which are sold on the platform are no longer available for purchase from the seller.

Amazon Associates letter

As at when the policy took effect, Amazon Echo items were pulled off the site but they are back now. However, its household items sold under the Presto brand are currently unavailable.

The new policy also prevents e-commerce stores from being the exclusive retailer for selling certain phones. In a letter to its associates that has been made public, Amazon says it has ceased using the phrase “Amazon Exclusives” in all formats and across all media (online and offline marketing). It advised its associates to also cease using the phrase with immediate effect and suggested they use “Available Online on Amazon.in” instead.

Recent reports have revealed that the upcoming Galaxy A-series phones will be aimed towards the Chinese market in a bid to cover the lost ground.  The rumored Galaxy A90 is expected to arrive as the most powerful A-series phone this year. Leaked Vivo V15 Pro specs reveal it is a Snapdragon 675-powered camera beast

Vivo is set to announce a new smartphone in India on February 20, the same day Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S10 series and a couple of other devices. That smartphone has been revealed to be the Vivo V15 Pro and a number of its key specs have leaked.

The leak is an official promotional image that shows the phone along with its key specs listed beside it. Just like the first leaked promotional poster, this is also from 91 Mobiles.

The Vivo V15 Pro isn’t a flagship phone and that is because of its processor which according to the poster is the Snapdragon 675 processor. The Snapdragon 675 was announced last year and is yet to appear in any phone. The Redmi Note 7 Pro which is scheduled to launch after the Spring Festival holidays has been rumored to come with the new chipset. Meizu’s Note 9 is also expected to have it under its hood.

Vivo V15 Pro specs

The Snapdragon 675 is an 11nm octa-core processor with eight Kryo 460 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. It also has an Adreno 612 GPU and the same Hexagon 685 DSP present in the Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 845 mobile platforms. The processor will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage but we expect it to come in other configurations too.

The poster reveals the Vivo V15 Pro will come with an in-display fingerprint scanner and a Super AMOLED display. The display won’t have a notch or a punch hole since Vivo has included a pop-up selfie camera like that of the Vivo NEX. However, the selfie camera slides out from the right and not the left like on the NEX.

Vivo isn’t holding back with the cameras. The selfie camera is a 32MP sensor while the rear is home to a triple camera setup made up of a 48MP primary sensor and an additional 8MP and 5MP sensors.

Alleged Huawei P30 render shows triple camera + ToF sensor arrangement

A render of a device said to be the Huawei P30 Pro has surfaced online. The image shows only the rear of the device but gives us a look at the camera setup.

The Huawei P20 Pro launched with a triple camera system but it appears Huawei will be adding a fourth sensor to its successor. This fourth sensor is a ToF 3D sensor for scanning 3D objects to use on the phone. You will also be able to use it for real-time motion tracking and even skeletal adjustments when taking photos.

Huawei P30 Pro render rear

The arrangement of the main sensors hasn’t changed. Two of the cameras share a single housing while the third is separated and positioned directly beneath them. Under the third sensor is the LED flash. There is also the LEICA branding which confirms Huawei’s partnership with the German company will continue this year.

The ToF 3D camera sits a few millimeters to the right of the first two cameras. It is placed in a housing with similar length but is less thick. There is a black circle above the sensor and below it is the laser autofocus module.

Xiaomi Mi 9 leaked image

The photos were shared on Weibo by Wang Teng Thomas but he later deleted them. Thankfully, someone was able to save them before he took them down. The images show just the back of the phone but we can still make out important details.

There have been rumors that the Mi 9 will come with three rear cameras and the image confirms that even though only two sensors are visible. The cameras are arranged vertically just like those of the Mi 8. However, the LED flash now sits outside the setup instead of between the sensors.

The Mi 9 doesn’t have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner which means it should come with an in-display fingerprint sensor like the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and the Mi 8 Pro. We expect it to be the new in-display fingerprint scanner technology which has a larger scanning area which they showcased last month.

The rear of the phone is covered in glass which we believe to be Gorilla Glass 5 like its predecessor or Gorilla Glass 6. The Mi 9 has a reflective finish and this variant is blue.
