For under Rs 20,000, Galaxy M35 is the best Samsung smartphone

The mid-range segment for smartphones has some fierce competition in India. Especially in the models with a budget pricing, brands are fighting for the most popular space in the smartphone market. It’s hard to pick and choose which one is the absolute best option, but there are always standouts among the crown. And in the sub 20,000 INR price range, the Samsung Galaxy M35 is one such powerhouse.

Samsung Galaxy M35 5G
Samsung Galaxy M35 5G

1. Display & Design

While the budget mid range phones are often shipped with LCD panels, the South Korean tech giant equips the Galaxy M35 with an AMOLED display. It sports a tall 6.6-inch screen with an FHD+ resolution, a center aligned punch hole cutout, a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,000 nits of peak brightness, and somewhat uniform bezels.

This makes it a perfect device for both videos and movies, while gamers can also enjoy the high refresh rate. The screen is also shielded by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+. One of the areas where Samsung cuts corners is with its design. The back features a plastic panel, and the sides employ a plastic frame. It comes in multiple color options, namely Moonlight Blue, Daybreak Blue, and Thunder Grey variants.

2. The Hardware

Under the hood, the Galaxy M35 is equipped with the Exynos 1380 SoC (AnTuTu Score 595K+), which is a capable mid range chip that offers performance closer to the Snapdragon 778G. This isn’t very impressive but for this price tag, you can expect decent performance for daily use and gaming. The Exynos 1380 is coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It runs on the Android 14 OS based One UI 6.1 custom skin out of the box and Samsung promises 4 years of major OS updates and 5 years of security patches.

Arriving at one of its highlighting aspects, the Samsung Galaxy M35 is powered by a massive 6,000mAh battery pack. This cell also supports 25W wired fast charging. This device was praised for its battery life, so power users can rest easy about this phone lasting the day. All of these specs are cooled by a vapor cooling chamber. Other notable features include Samsung Wallet (with a tap and pay feature), a side mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.3, and Always on display.

For photography, the Galaxy M35 features a triple camera setup on the back. This includes a 50-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixel marco sensor. On the front, users get a 13-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

3. An attractive price tag

It is hard to recommend a smartphone from specs alone without taking its pricing into account. All of these specs wouldn’t be worthwhile if it was too expensive, but thankfully, you can get your hands on the Galaxy M35 for a starting price tag of just 19,999 INR. Buyers can also avail a flat 1,000 INR discount with an exchange offer of up to 18,850 INR as well. There are also bank offers that bring the price down to another 2,000 INR. This easily makes it a great value for money in India, where consumers are price conscious.

Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 to undergo major optimizations and add support for more older devices

Like any first-generation product, HyperOS had its share of issues when it launched last year. Xiaomi introduced it with the goal of unifying their product lineups under a single OS, which has largely been successful. However, some smartphones have experienced serious bugs and performance issues.

Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0

Improved performance and expanded support for older devices

In response, Xiaomi is working to address these problems in the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 update. Industry insiders reveal that the company is investing significantly in optimizing the operating system to provide a smoother and more responsive user experience.

Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 Leak

According to reliable tipster Fixed Focus Digital, Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 is expected to introduce cold start optimization, address lock screen mistouches, and refine car connectivity. Additionally, Xiaomi is reportedly expanding the OS’s compatibility to include a wider range of older devices, allowing more users to benefit from the new features.

In a related development, the recent departure of Jin Fan, Xiaomi’s Product Director and MIUI Experience Head, for a period of seclusion has sparked speculation about his role in the development of HyperOS 2.0. While Xiaomi has stated that Fan’s absence is unrelated to the project, many industry insiders believe his expertise is critical to the OS’s success.

Leaked information suggests the OS may include a “Camera Scan” feature that uses WLAN signals to detect hidden cameras, aiming to enhance user privacy. Additionally, HyperOS 2.0 is expected to incorporate advanced AI capabilities, creating a more intelligent and user-focused ecosystem.

Although the official release date for HyperOS 2.0 is unconfirmed, it is speculated to launch alongside the Xiaomi 15 series in late October. HyperOS was first introduced with the Xiaomi 14 series in China last October, replacing MIUI, and was later expanded to devices like the Redmi Note 13 Pro series, Poco X6 Pro, and M6 in India by early 2024.

Realme to announce world’s fastest 320W SuperSonic charge this week

Realme was recently rumored to be working on new and improved fast charging tech. Last week, the company’s 300W charging tech was spotted in action in a leaked video. Now, Realme has officially announced that the brand’s 320W SuperSonic charge will be unveiled this week.

Realme 320W SuperSonic Charge

To recall, Realme’s 300W charging tech was leaked in a video that showcased the impressive charging speeds. In a mere 35 seconds, the device being charged hit 0 to 17 percent in battery charge. It is worth noting that this charging tech isn’t entirely new. Xiaomi’s sub brand Redmi demoed their 300W charger last year. This was demonstrated on a Redmi Note 12, which has a 4,100mAh battery pack, which charged from 0 to 100 percent in just 5 minutes.

Realme 320W SuperSonic Charge

So the latest teaser confirms that it surpasses the 300W charging mark and suggests that it is the direct successor to the brand’s 240W fast charging tech. For those unaware, the company unveiled the Realme GT5 back in 2023 with a 4,600mAh battery pack and 240W wired fast charging. Realme claimed that this phone could charge to 20 percent in just 80 seconds, 50 percent in 4 minutes, and full charge in just 9 minutes.

A three day event is set to be hosted in China from 13th August to 15th August. So the 320W SuperSonic charge is expected to be an exclusive preview of the brand’s latest proprietary innovations. We can also expect to find tech demoes outside of charging like AI, performance, imaging, and others. In related news, the Realme C63 5G was just announced in India as the latest budget phone.

The rear panel is flat and features a gradient finish with flat edges as well that could be made from metal.

Oppo F27

It is unclear if the F27 will come in a leather variant like the higher end Oppo F27 Pro+ that launched in India back in June. The display on the front is also flat with rounded corners and a center aligned punch hole cutout for the selfie camera. Known tipster Sudhanshu also shared some information regarding the Oppo F27 5G. The company will reportedly launch the device in two storage variants, namely 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB.

Oppo F27

The F27 Pro+ was a rebranded Oppo A3 Pro which released in China. So we can expect the vanilla F27 to be a rebranded Oppo A3. Under the hood, the Vivo V40 Pro is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ chipset, while the Honor 200 Pro features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The Snapdragon chipset has a marginally higher base clock speed, but both processors are built on a 4nm process, ensuring efficiency and power.

The V40 Pro runs on Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14, whereas the Honor 200 Pro uses MagicOS 8 on top of Android 14. Performance differences may be minor, but the software experience could vary, with Funtouch OS and MagicOS offering different features and customization options.

4. Camera System

Both smartphones come with triple-camera setups, but their configurations differ. Vivo offers three 50 MP sensors, covering wide, telephoto, and ultrawide shots, while Honor opts for a 50 MP wide, 50 MP telephoto with a slightly higher 2.5x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide.

Honor’s use of a 1/1.3” sensor on its main camera suggests better light capture, though Vivo’s consistent 50 MP across all lenses may provide more balanced imaging. For selfies, Vivo continues with a single 50 MP camera, whereas Honor adds a secondary 2 MP depth sensor for better portrait shots.

5. Battery and Charging

Battery capacity is close, with Vivo packing a 5500 mAh battery and Honor opting for 5200 mAh. Honor leads in charging speed with its 100W wired and 66W wireless options, significantly faster than Vivo’s 80W wired charging. Honor also supports reverse wireless charging, a feature missing on the Vivo, which might appeal to users looking for more versatile power options.

6. Connectivity and Other Features

Both phones are well-equipped in connectivity, featuring Wi-Fi 6/7 (Vivo) and Wi-Fi 6 (Honor), along with Bluetooth 5.3. The Honor 200 Pro includes an infrared port, which might appeal to users who want to control home devices. Both devices have an under-display fingerprint sensor, but the Honor adds ultrasound proximity sensing, a feature that might offer more precise input detection.

7. Price

The Vivo V40 Pro is more affordable than the Honor 200 Pro 5G as it has a base 8/256GB configuration. This variant is priced at Rs 34,999, while the mid-tier option, featuring 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is priced at Rs 36,999. The top-tier variant with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage comes in at Rs 41,999.

On the other hand, the Honor 200 Pro offers a more streamlined pricing structure. The base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at Rs 34,999, matching the Vivo V40 Pro’s entry-level price. The higher-end variant, featuring 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, is available for Rs 39,999, making it more affordable than the top model of the Vivo V40 Pro.

8. Conclusion

The choice between the Vivo V40 Pro and the Honor 200 Pro hinges on specific preferences. The Vivo V40 Pro excels in design, display brightness, and battery capacity, making it suitable for those who prioritize aesthetics and endurance.

On the other hand, the Honor 200 Pro offers a more balanced package with slightly better performance, faster charging, and value for money, making it a compelling choice for users looking for a well-rounded device.

OnePlus Ace 5 build

To recall, the OnePlus Ace 3 was announced in black, blue, and rose gold color options at the beginning of this year in China. All three color variants featured a glass back. It seems that the tipster Wisdom Pikachu could be talking about the OnePlus Ace 5 in the above Weibo post. It reveals that it may arrive in a ceramic build. He also said that the phone will pack a battery of around 6,000mAh capacity. It has already been revealed in a recent report, that the Ace 5 will have a 6,000mAh dual-cell battery that supports 100W fast charging. Like its predecessor, it will lack support for wireless charging.

Under the hood, the OnePlus Ace 5 will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.  For photography, the device will be equipped with a 50-megapixel triple camera unit. It is expected to run on OxygenOS 15-based Android 15.

The Ace 5 is said to have a 6.78-inch curved-edge OLED panel with a micro-curvature design. The 8T LTPO panel will offer a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the device is also said to be equipped with an alert slider.

The OnePlus Ace 5 is expected to compete with the Redmi K80, which is also expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The K80 series is expected to launch in November this year in China.

iQOO Z9s Pro chipset confirmed, iQOO Z9s’ design revealed as launch draws near

iQOO is all set to announce the iQOO Z9s series of smartphones on Aug. 21 in India. The lineup has two models, namely, the iQOO Z9s and the iQOO Z9s Pro. While several reports have already revealed a lot of details about these smartphones, the company has been gradually confirming their details. The landing pages for the Z9s and Z9s Pro, which are available on iQOO India’s website, have revealed the key details about both smartphones.

iQOO Z9s Pro

The iQOO Z9s Pro’s landing page reveals that it has a curved-edge AMOLED screen that offers a 120Hz refresh rate and 400 nits of local peak brightness. The brand also confirmed that the device will be available in two shades, such as Luxe Marble and Flamboyant Orange.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset powers the Z9s Pro. Other reports have revealed that the rear-facing dual-camera setup of the device has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 primary camera with OIS support and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

There is a possibility that the Z9s Pro could be a rebranded or tweaked version of the iQOO Z9 (China variant), which debuted in April of this year.  It has a 6.78-inch display, an IP64-rated chassis, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, and a 6,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging support.

The iQOO Z9s reportedly features the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 main camera and the Dimensity 7300 chipset. There is a possibility the device may not feature an ultra-wide lens. The rest of its details are yet to be revealed.

Redmi Turbo 4 / Poco F7 preliminary details on display, battery, build emerge

Redmi is working on the Redmi Note 14 series and the Redmi K80 series of smartphones for the Chinese market. While the Note 14 lineup is expected to launch either by the end of this month or in September, the K80 series may break cover in November. A recent development revealed that the brand is also working on the Redmi Turbo 4 for the home market. A few preliminary details about the screen resolution and the build of the device have emerged well before its launch, which is expected to happen next year.

Redmi Turbo 4 display, battery, build details tipped

It was recently reported that the Redmi Turbo 4 bearing the model number 2412DRT0AC was spotted in the IMEI database. It is speculated that the same phone could be heading to the global market, including India, with the Poco F7 branding. The global edition of the device has the 2412DPC0AG model number, whereas the Indian variant has the 2412DPC0AI model number.

While the “2412” numbers hint at a December launch, it is likely that the Turbo 4 could be launching in Q2 2025. The Poco F7 is expected in other markets a few weeks after the launch of the Turbo 4.

Reliable tipster Experience More revealed that the Redmi Turbo 4’s display will continue to feature a flat display that offers a 1.5K resolution. In addition, the device will be equipped with a plastic frame. Being a rebranded model, the Poco F7 is also expected to carry the same specs. Hence, it appears that the Redmi Turbo 4 / Poco F7 will not offer any significant changes in departments like display and build as compared to their predecessors.

There is no information about the chipset that powers the Redmi Turbo 4 / Poco F7. It remains to be seen whether these devices feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, as the previous generation has the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 onboard.

The leaker also mentioned that the Redmi Turbo 4 will have a super large battery. However, he did not mention the exact battery size. The Turbo 3 has a 5,000mAh battery with 90W fast charging support. It is likely that the Turbo 4 / F7 may pack at least 5,500mAh battery.
