<p>In a surprising move, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> may be preparing to rename Bard to Gemini. Recent code discoveries suggest the company may be planning to unify all of its AI efforts under the name &#8220;Gemini,&#8221; its latest AI model.</p>

<p>Tech researcher <a href="https://twitter.com/bedros_p/status/1752935390208528780" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bedros Pamboukian </a>discovered flags on the public Bard website, allowing Google to easily replace all instances of &#8220;Bard&#8221; with &#8220;Gemini&#8221; throughout the site. </p>

<p>Notably, all text strings featuring &#8220;Bard&#8221; have corresponding alternatives with &#8220;Gemini,&#8221; visible in the code of the Bard website. The only Bard reference left untouched by Google seems to be the logo label in the header.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">It&#39;s&#8230; everywhere. The only &quot;Bard&quot; spared is the label logo image in the top left (&quot;Bard [Experiment]&quot;). Can still find Bard in the FAQ for now. (3/7) <a href="https://t.co/UtquZmFJGj">pic.twitter.com/UtquZmFJGj</a></p>&mdash; Bedros Pamboukian (@bedros_p) <a href="https://twitter.com/bedros_p/status/1752935396197957755?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 1, 2024</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>Even the unreleased paid version of Bard, known as &#8220;Bard Advanced,&#8221; is found to be internally referred to as &#8220;Gemini Advanced.&#8221; While seemingly straightforward, the new name could lead to confusion with the existing complexity levels of the underlying Gemini model (&#8220;Nano,&#8221; &#8220;Pro,&#8221; and &#8220;Ultra&#8221;).</p>

<p>The potential rebranding aligns with <a href="https://9to5google.com/2024/01/29/assistant-bard-gemini-name/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">9to5Google&#8217;s </a>recent discovery that Google was planning to rename its AI-powered Assistant to &#8220;Gemini,&#8221; previously hinted at as &#8220;Assistant with Bard&#8221; during the announcement.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="514" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Bard-rename-to-Gemini.jpg?x96852" alt="Google rename Bard to Gemini" class="wp-image-602192" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Bard-rename-to-Gemini.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Bard-rename-to-Gemini-300x171.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Bard-rename-to-Gemini-768x439.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Bard-rename-to-Gemini-696x397.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Google-Bard-rename-to-Gemini-735x420.jpg 735w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption>Bard replaced with Gemini </figcaption></figure></div>

<p>By renaming both Bard and Assistant, Google could streamline its generative AI branding under the comprehensive &#8220;Gemini&#8221; umbrella. “Gemini” would then cover both consumer-ready products and the underlying technology.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, even if Bard undergoes a rebrand, other generative AI products like &#8220;Duet AI&#8221; in Workspace may retain their current names.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Google may be aiming for a clearer distinction between Workspace tools and consumer offerings while maintaining a more unified overall image. Compared to rivals like Siri and Alexa, &#8220;Gemini&#8221; could provide a more distinctive identity for Google&#8217;s AI assistant.</p>

<p>In related news, Google this week introduced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/02/02/google-maps-adds-generative-ai-for-personalized-place-discovery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Generative AI features to Google Maps</a> that will help users for personalized place discovery.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google-bard">Google&#8217;s Bard,</a> known for its impressive AI capabilities, is making a significant leap by adding a new feature to its repertoire. It&#8217;s not just any update; it&#8217;s a game-changer. Bard can now understand the content within <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/youtube">YouTube</a> videos. This means you can ask Bard detailed questions about what&#8217;s happening in a video, and it will give you accurate answers. Imagine watching a cooking video and wondering about the number of eggs needed for that olive oil cake recipe. Just ask Bard, and you&#8217;ll get your answer right away.</p>

<h2>This feature might change how we engage with YouTube videos.</h2>

<p>Introduced earlier, Bard&#8217;s &#8220;Extensions&#8221; already linked it with various Google apps like <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/gmail">Gmail</a>, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/drive">Drive</a>, and YouTube, enhancing its ability to provide more personalized responses. But this latest update takes things to a whole new level. For example, while watching a video on YouTube, Bard can help you grasp its content better by providing summaries or answering specific questions.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1024x576.jpeg?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-578394" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1536x863.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-696x391.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1068x600.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1920x1079.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard.jpeg 1971w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>This advancement isn&#8217;t just about convenience; it&#8217;s about making information more accessible and interactive. However, it&#8217;s crucial to remember that Bard, like any <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/artificial-intelligence">AI</a>, isn&#8217;t flawless. In tests, Bard sometimes misunderstood contexts, like mistaking a conversation between <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/smartphones">smartphones</a> for a chat between sisters. These hiccups remind us that AI still has room for improvement.</p>

<p>Google keeps <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/05/google-assistant-with-bard-generative-ai/">updating</a> the Bard LLM with new features and improvements that help to improve the usability and quality of its responses. New models are also part of these formal &#8220;updates&#8221; listed in the changelog. Surprisingly, a couple of new features, including the ability to generate responses in real-time and skip responses in between, have been added to Google Bard without any mention in the changelog. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1024x576.jpeg?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-578394" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1536x863.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-696x391.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1068x600.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-1920x1079.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/google-bard.jpeg 1971w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><em><strong>Must See: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/28/google-tensor-g5-chip-development-tsmc-3nm-process/">Google’s Tensor G5 to feature custom CPU and GPU, but G4 to be a minor upgrade</a></strong></em></p>

<h2><strong>What&#8217;s new in Google Bard?</strong></h2>

<p>Google Bard now offers the ability to respond in real-time rather than answering your query at once. It is quite helpful to rectify the query in between if you see it is not going in line with your desired outcome. Still, there will be a rotating Bard sparkle for the initial few milliseconds, and then the line-by-line answer will follow. </p>

<p>Sometimes, the Large Language Models are not so accurate, we need to improvise the query or need to feed more information for better answers. Such improvisations are much more suitable when the response is generated in real-time, as it saves the time of the user. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="424" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-1024x424.jpg?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-578393" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-1024x424.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-300x124.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-768x318.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-1536x636.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-696x288.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-1068x442.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j-1014x420.jpg 1014w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/fZfyfoMM9j.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>To further enhance the user experience, Google debuts the &#8220;Skip Response&#8221; button to save time. You will see the button once the LLM generates an answer to your query. </p>

<p>It is a good change for the Google Bard which will be quite productive and useful for the users. </p>

<p>Recently, the search giant paired its Google Assistant with Google Bard for more creative, enhanced, and human-like interactions. It is followed by a new and more capable model introduced last month that can offer &#8220;more intuitive, imaginative, and responsive&#8221; answers. </p>

<p>Artificial intelligence is becoming more and more popular. People in many different professions use AI chatbots to make their daily tasks easier. Right now, OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT is the leading on the market. However, that&#8217;s about to change. Google&#8217;s AI, Bard, which was released as a rival to ChatGPT, just got its biggest update yet and it got a lot smarter. Here are the details about Google Bard 2.0&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Now You Can Listen to Responses, Adjust Tone, Share Conversations on Google Bard</strong></h2>

<p>Google Bard has just received its biggest update yet. The update includes new features that allow users to listen to AI&#8217;s responses, adjust the tone and style of Bard&#8217;s responses, pin and rename conversations, use images in prompts, and share Bard responses. The update also expands Bard&#8217;s availability to most of the world and in the most widely spoken languages. This means that more people will be able to use Bard to explore their curiosity, augment their imagination, and get their ideas off the ground.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-1024x576.jpg?x96852" alt="Google Bard" class="wp-image-551010" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/google-bard-update-1.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3><strong>All New features available in Bard</strong></h3>

<p>The use of artificial intelligence chatbots is growing rapidly. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/12/chatgpt-usage-statistics-lower-usage/">ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI</a>, is the current market leader, with Google&#8217;s Bard not far behind. This popularity is creating new opportunities for businesses, but it is also raising concerns among regulators and governments. For example, Google has recently delayed the launch of its Bard AI chatbot in the European Union, citing privacy concerns. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google Working with Regulators to Address Bard AI Concerns</strong></h2>

<p>Artificial intelligence use by many people to make their daily tasks easier. However, there are some risks associated with AI, such as the possibility of sensitive information being leaked. For this reason, some companies, such as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/03/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung and</a> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/20/apple-bans-the-use-of-chatgpt-at-workplace/">Apple, have recently banned</a> the use of generative AI bots. The European Union is aware of the risks associated with AI and has begun to regulate its use. </p>

<p>Google, which has developed its own AI chatbot called Bard, has delayed the launch of Bard in the European Union until it can comply with the new regulations. The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), which is the lead data protection authority for Google in the EU, has said that it has not received enough information from Google about how Bard will protect users&#8217; privacy.</p>

<p>The DPC has raised concerns about how Bard will collect and use users&#8217; personal data, including their names, email addresses, and IP addresses. The DPC is also concerned about how Bard will prevent users&#8217; data from being used for unauthorized purposes, such as targeted advertising. Google has said that it is committed to protecting users&#8217; privacy and that it is working with the DPC to address its concerns. However, the company has not yet said when Bard will be available in the EU.</p>

<p>This is not the first time that a major tech company has delayed the launch of an AI product in the EU due to privacy concerns. In March, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/30/chatgpt-returns-italy-addressing-data-privacy-concerns/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ChatGPT temporarily banned in Italy</a> after the Italian privacy regulator raised similar concerns. It is not yet known when the tension between Google and the EU will end.</p>

<p>Artificial intelligence technology is constantly evolving. One of the most visible examples of this is in the chatbots we use in our daily lives. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/11/google-bard-goes-global/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Bard is one such AI bot</a>, and it recently received a major update. This update allows Bard to curate and display relevant images in response to user queries. This new feature is a significant improvement over previous versions of Bard, which only provided text-based responses. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google Bard Image-Based Response Feature Helps Users Find Information Faster and Easier</strong></h2>

<p>Google Bard has received a major update that allows it to curate and display relevant images based on user queries. This new feature is a significant improvement over previous versions of Bard, which only provided text-based responses. Images can be used to provide a visual representation of concepts and ideas, which can be helpful for understanding complex topics. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-1024x576.webp?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-541432" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-1536x864.webp 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-2048x1151.webp 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-696x391.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-1068x600.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-1920x1079.webp 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/google-bard-image-based-responses-1-747x420.webp 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>For example, if a user is searching for information about a historical event, Bard can display images of the event, such as photographs or paintings. This can help users to better understand the event and its significance.</p>

<p>The new image-based response feature is available in English at this time, but Google plans to expand support for other languages in the future. The feature is also currently in beta, so it may not always be available or may not work perfectly. However, it is a promising new development that has the potential to make Bard a more powerful and versatile tool. So How does it work? </p>

<p>Bard&#8217;s image-based response feature is powered by Google&#8217;s vast image database. When a user asks a question, Bard searches the database for relevant images. Bard then displays the images to the user, along with a brief description of each image.</p>

<p>AI chatbots are all the rage in 2023, with OpenAI&#8217;s <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/ChatGPT">ChatGPT</a> leading the pack. However, it is not completely reliable, leaving people to use multiple chatbots to get the best results for their queries. But that can be a drag and a pain. That&#8217;s where ChatALL comes in. It&#8217;s a new chatbot that lets you chat with up to 17 other chatbots at once, including ChatGPT, Bard, Alpaca, Vincuna, and Claude. That means you can get the best results for your queries without having to switch between different chatbots. Here are the details.</p>

<h2>ChatALL brings up to 17 Chatbots under one roof</h2>

<p>ChatALL is an AI chatbot that shows you answers from various other chatbots available out there. It can send your questions to over 10 popular chatbots at once, including ChatGPT, GPT4, Bing, Bard, Claude, Wenxinyiyan, Xunfei Xinghuo, and others. It then waits for their responses and presents them to you one by one. This lets you compare the answers and choose the one that you find most suitable.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-1024x640.webp?x96852" alt="ChatALL example" class="wp-image-538745" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-1024x640.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-300x188.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-768x480.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-696x435.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-1068x668.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example-672x420.webp 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ChatALL-example.webp 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>It is a versatile application that supports three languages: Chinese, English, and German. To use ChatALL, users can conveniently sideload it onto their Mac, Windows, or Linux devices using the installation package available on <a href="https://github.com/sunner/ChatALL/releases">GitHub</a>.</p>

<p>ChatALL has a number of features that make it stand out from other chatbots. These include the quick question mode, local conversation history, the ability to highlight and delete answers, automatic offline mode for ChatGPT, the option to enable or disable any bot at any time, and the flexibility to switch between one-column, two-column, or three-column views.</p>

<p><em>ITHome</em> reports that Sun Zhigang is the main author of ChatALL. He is a partner at Kaikeba (a Chinese online education company) and graduated from the Harbin Institute of Technology with a major in computer science. He was also an associate professor at the School of Computer Science. According to Zhigang, most of ChatALL&#8217;s code was generated using GPT-4. GPT-4 is a large language model chatbot developed by OpenAI.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google&#8217;s</a> Bard, the conversational <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI</a> service powered by LaMDA, has made significant strides since its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/07/google-bard-ai-technology-rival-chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">launch earlier this year</a>. At Google&#8217;s recent I/O event, the tech giant revealed exciting updates that enhance Bard&#8217;s capabilities and provide users with new avenues for collaboration.</p>

<p>One of the most noteworthy announcements is that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-bard/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Bard</a> is now available globally. The service, which was previously on a waitlist, has expanded to over 180 countries and regions. The AI now supports Japanese and Korean language and Google plans to roll out support for 40 languages in the near future.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1017" height="567" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Google-Bard.jpg?x96852" alt="Google Bard" class="wp-image-536306" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Google-Bard.jpg 1017w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Google-Bard-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Google-Bard-768x428.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Google-Bard-696x388.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Google-Bard-753x420.jpg 753w" sizes="(max-width: 1017px) 100vw, 1017px" /></figure></div>

<h2>Key features of Google Bard:</h2>

<p>To make interactions with Bard more visually engaging, Google has introduced image integration into the service. Users can now request recommendations from Bard and receive responses enriched with relevant visuals. This enhancement provides users with a better understanding of their queries and the topics they are exploring. Furthermore, users can incorporate images in their own prompts, leveraging the power of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-lens/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Lens</a>. Bard can analyze these images and swiftly generate creative captions, offering users a seamless and efficient experience.</p>

<p>Addressing feedback from developers, Google has upgraded Bard&#8217;s coding capabilities. These improvements include source citations, a dark theme for enhanced readability, and an export button. This export feature allows users to transfer their code and run it using the popular coding platform, Replit, starting with Python. Additionally, Google has introduced two export options that enable users to seamlessly transfer Bard&#8217;s replies directly into Gmail and Docs.</p>

<p>Recognizing the importance of integration, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> has announced that Bard will seamlessly connect with various Google <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apps/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">apps</a> and services, including Docs, Drive, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gmail/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gmail</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-maps/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maps</a>. This integration opens up endless possibilities for users to explore and nurture their curiosity and creativity. Furthermore, Google is collaborating with external partners, such as Adobe Firefly, to ensure Bard can generate high-quality images that enhance users&#8217; creative projects.</p>

<p>Users can now experience Bard directly by visiting bard.google.com.</p>

<p>In an exciting announcement at Google&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-i-o-2023/">recent I/O conference,</a> the tech giant unveiled a groundbreaking AI-powered feature called &#8220;Help me write&#8221; for Gmail. This innovative tool aims to assist users in composing messages more effectively and efficiently. With this new addition, Google continues to push the boundaries of AI integration, offering a practical solution to enhance communication experiences. </p>

<h2>The feature is Powered by Google Bard AI</h2>

<p>&#8220;Help me write&#8221; is an intuitive feature designed to empower <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gmail">Gmail</a> users with AI-generated drafts that seamlessly incorporate relevant details from received emails. By clicking on the pencil and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-bard">Bard</a> sparkle icon adjacent to the send button, users can initiate the writing assistance process. This feature shines in its ability to quickly generate a comprehensive message based on user prompts.</p>

<p>During the live demonstration, a user was seen composing a response to an airline, requesting a full refund for a canceled flight. By simply inserting the prompt, &#8220;ask for a full refund for this canceled flight,&#8221; the &#8220;Help me write&#8221; feature intelligently analyzed the email from the airline and generated a complete draft. This integration of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/artificial-intelligence">AI</a> technology significantly reduces the time and effort required to construct well-crafted messages, ensuring effective communication while maximizing productivity.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">From Smart Reply <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> “Help me write” in Gmail <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/1f9f5.png" alt="🧵" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" />↓<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/GoogleIO?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#GoogleIO</a> <a href="https://t.co/u0ILECSMN4">pic.twitter.com/u0ILECSMN4</a></p>&mdash; Google (@Google) <a href="https://twitter.com/Google/status/1656344805268389911?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 10, 2023</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>Google&#8217;s &#8220;Help me write&#8221; feature doesn&#8217;t stop at generating drafts. It goes a step further by providing users with a &#8220;Refine&#8221; option, allowing them to adjust and personalize the wording of the AI-generated message. The refine function offers various options, including formalize, elaborate, shorten, and even an intriguing &#8220;I&#8217;m Feeling Lucky&#8221; choice. This versatility enables users to tailor the drafts according to their communication style and preferences, ultimately ensuring a more genuine and engaging message.</p>

<p>Google plans to integrate the &#8220;Help me write&#8221; feature into its Workspace suite, further enhancing the overall productivity and user experience within Gmail. As part of their commitment to continuous improvement, this update demonstrates Google&#8217;s dedication to leveraging AI technology to simplify everyday tasks and foster efficient communication workflows. The company also launched the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-fold/">Google Pixel Fold</a>, the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-tablet">Pixel Tablet</a> and the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-7a">Pixel 7a</a> at the event, along with some other <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/11/compose-for-google-tv-developers/">AI-related announcements.</a> </p>

<p>Artificial intelligence technologies continue to take the internet by storm. Many companies are currently working on either developing their own AI models or integrating chatbots like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/05/05/openai-doubled-losses-last-year/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ChatGPT</a> into their popular services. Google, valued at trillions of dollars, naturally chose the former approach and recently introduced its AI chatbot called Bard. Contrary to rumors, the company wanted to demonstrate that it hadn&#8217;t lost its technological edge. Despite a somewhat rushed and challenging start, it managed to grab the world&#8217;s attention once again. Now, Google Bard is reportedly coming to Pixel devices as a new homescreen widget. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google&#8217;s Bard AI: A New Homescreen Widget Coming to Pixel Devices?</strong></h2>

<p>According to the latest leaks, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/22/google-bard-coding-integration/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Bard</a> is reportedly coming to Pixel devices as a new homescreen widget. The source suggests that it may arrive as a standalone app, a homescreen widget, or even as part of the Google Search app. At the moment, it is not known what kind of impact Bard will have on phones. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-1024x576.png?x96852" alt="Google Bard" class="wp-image-534976" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/google-bard-ai-android-phones.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>However, there are claims that the AI will not just be a chatbot, but will also serve as an assistant with some control over the system. For now, the code suggests that the feature is being exclusively developed for Pixel phones. Nonetheless, Google frequently tests new features on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-7/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pixel models</a>. This allows the company to easily test real-world scenarios while offering technology enthusiasts a sneak peek at what&#8217;s to come.</p>

<p>It is also important to remember that these findings are based on code analysis, and Google&#8217;s plans could change at any time. However, As Moreover, Google&#8217;s Bard is still an experiment and is not open to the public. Users interested in trying it out can sign up and join the waitlist, or turn to already available services like ChatGPT or Bing.</p>

<p>Artificial intelligence technologies continue to take the internet by storm. A wide range of individuals, from high school and university students to engineers at tech giants, use these tools for cheating or boosting productivity. However, the extensive use of AI also raises security concerns. Chatbots may potentially leak user information, which has led to some bans. For example, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/30/chatgpt-returns-italy-addressing-data-privacy-concerns/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Italy banned ChatGPT</a> a while ago, and the service was unavailable in the country for several days. Samsung has now implemented a similar ban, reportedly prohibiting its employees from using generative AI tools like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ChatGPT</a>, Google Bard, and Bing due to security concerns. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Samsung Temporarily Restricts Use of AI Tools After Security Breach</strong></h2>

<p>The tension between tech companies and artificial intelligence technologies continues. A while ago, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/04/samsungs-chatgpt-backfires-leaks-confidential-data/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung experienced a data leak</a> as a result of some engineers giving confidential information to ChatGPT. Samsung found the solution in imposing comprehensive bans. The tech giant issued a statement to all employees, announcing the ban on popular generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Bing. The bans will be effective starting Monday, and AI tools cannot be accessed using company-owned devices such as computers, tablets, and phones.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-1024x576.png?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-534198" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/samsung-reportedly-bans-use-of-ai-tools-1.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>However, it would not be entirely accurate to say that Samsung is against artificial intelligence technologies. The company is aware that products like ChatGPT can also be used to escape menial tasks and increase productivity. In its statement on the issue, the company said, &#8220;HQ is reviewing security measures to create a secure environment for safely using generative AI to enhance employees&#8217; productivity and efficiency. However, until these measures are prepared, we are temporarily restricting the use of generative AI.&#8221;</p>

<p>Unfortunately, ChatGPT and other AI chatbots are a real security concern. With so many people using them, it makes some products more attractive to hackers. That&#8217;s why both OpenAI and other developers are continuing their work to address security issues.</p>

<p>Google&#8217;s work on artificial intelligence <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/02/google-bard-palm-upgrade/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bard</a> continues at full speed. The company, which has been lagging behind ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI for a while, is preparing to change this situation with new features and updates. Recently, the company announced an &#8216;experiment updates&#8217; page, where it will share innovations, developments, and fixes related to Google Bard. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google Bard&#8217;s New &#8220;Experiment Updates&#8221; Page Offers Transparency on AI Development</strong></h2>

<p>The Google Bard, which was announced earlier this year, has been in a constant state of development. While Google has been actively tweaking its AI models, it has been challenging for users to know exactly what the service is capable of due to the lack of a centralized information hub. </p>

<p>Addressing this issue, Google has recently launched a new &#8220;experiment updates&#8221; page to keep users informed about the latest developments in Bard, including new features and bug fixes. The update page offers a brief description of &#8220;what&#8221; and &#8220;why&#8221; for each posted update. According to Google, this page aims to provide &#8220;an easy place to see the latest Bard updates for users to test and provide feedback.&#8221; </p>

<p>This move towards openness is seen as a step in the right direction for the company, which aims to be more transparent about the development process of its AI technology. In the same post, Google has made two additional announcements. Firstly, they have introduced new search options when users click &#8220;Google it.&#8221; Secondly, the company has acknowledged issues with Bard&#8217;s math and logic skills, revealing that the AI doesn&#8217;t always provide the correct answers. </p>

<p>Google is currently working on fixing these issues, following the recent upgrade to a more advanced language model for Bard. Although the updates on the page are short and lack detailed information on how Google is implementing these changes, the transparency demonstrates the company&#8217;s commitment to keeping users informed about its AI development. </p>

<p>In a time when concerns about unregulated advancements in AI technology are growing, Google&#8217;s openness is likely to earn them trust points from both industry professionals and the general public. </p>

<p>Artificial intelligence is becoming more and more important every day. The situation is so critical that even Google, a long-standing leader in Silicon Valley, is at risk of its future. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/02/google-bard-palm-upgrade/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ChatGPT</a> has even managed to outdo most search engines and make many websites unnecessary (NOT Gizmochina) . However, the technology giant is aware of the danger and is taking steps to address it. According to recent reports, the company is restructuring its virtual assistant unit to focus on its AI chatbot, Bard. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google restructures virtual assistant team to focus more on Bard</strong></h2>

<p>Google is restructuring its virtual assistant team to Bard. This move was announced by Sissie Hsiao, the vice president and lead of Google Assistant’s business unit. One of the primary reasons behind this reshuffling is the company’s focus on Bard. This AI chatbot is Google’s answer to ChatGPT, and the company has big plans for its development. To achieve this goal, it is enlisting the help of its virtual assistant unit.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="500" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1.jpeg?x96852" alt="OpenAI ChatGPT and Google Bard" class="wp-image-526863" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1.jpeg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1-300x167.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1-768x427.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1-696x387.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1-756x420.jpeg 756w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The company wants to integrate Bard into all of its products, including Nest smart speakers, Pixel phones, and Android Auto. This suggests that Google may have significant plans for Bard and Google Assistant in the future. As part of the reshuffling, Jianchang Mao, vice president of engineering for Google Assistant, who reported directly to Hsiao, is leaving the company for &#8220;personal reasons&#8221;. </p>

<p>He will be replaced by Peeyush Ranjan, the former vice president of Google’s commerce organization. Meanwhile, Amar Subramanya, Google Assistant engineering vice president, is now leading the engineering efforts for the Bard team. Trevor Strohman, who was previously in charge of leading these engineering efforts, will continue as an “Area Tech Lead” for Bard.</p>

<p>The restructuring and increased focus on Bard underscore the growing importance of AI and chatbots in today’s technology landscape. As Google continues to push the boundaries of AI, it is clear that the company sees Bard as a key part of its future.</p>

<p>Artificial Intelligence is becoming more and more popular on the internet, and we hear about new AI advancements almost every day. However, most of the news we hear about AI developments is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/02/italy-bans-chatgpt-over-privacy-concerns/">related to ChatGPT.</a> This might come as a surprise to some, as even trillion-dollar tech companies are still lagging behind OpenAI when it comes to AI technology. However, Google is now looking to change this. The CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced that they will be upgrading Bard AI to more capable models next week. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Bard AI will be upgraded to more capable models next week, reveals Google CEO</strong></h2>

<p>Google unveiled their <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/23/google-opens-public-bard-ai-chatbot/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI chatbot named Bard</a> a while ago, which was supposed to compete with ChatGPT. However, the chatbot gave an wrong response which was an embarrassing moment for the company. This caused a loss of $100 billion in market value for the tech giant. In response to critiques of Bard&#8217;s failed demo in February, the CEO of Google has recently addressed the issue.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1024x576.webp?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-526862" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/google-bard-palm-upgrade.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>CEO Sundar Pichai &#8220;assured&#8221; listeners in an interview for The New York Times&#8217; Hard Fork podcast on Friday that Bard would soon be upgraded to a more capable Pathways Language Model (PaLM). Pichai explained that PaLM is a more current language model that is larger in scale and better suited to handle tasks such as logical reasoning and coding issues. Bard is currently operating on a lightweight and efficient <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/07/25/google-fires-software-engineer-claiming-chatbot-sentient/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">version of LaMDA</a>. The upgrade to PaLM will bring more capabilities, such as better math problem-solving and reasoning skills.</p>

<p>Pichai acknowledged that the company&#8217;s conservative approach to AI development had contributed to Bard&#8217;s limitations. He revealed that he had discussed the project with Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and that it was important not to release a more capable model before they could handle it well. Despite the setbacks, Pichai is optimistic about the future of AI and its potential benefits. However, he also emphasized the importance of anticipating the risks associated with AI&#8217;s rapid growth and evolving to meet those challenges.</p>

<p>Bard was released to the general public in the U.S. and U.K. on March 21 but has failed to generate as much attention as Microsoft&#8217;s Bing AI chatbot and OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT. With the upcoming upgrade, Google hopes to catch up to its rivals in the AI chatbot space.</p>

<p>The AI wars are in full swing as companies scramble to respond to the success of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/30/chatgpt-saved-dogs-life-vets-couldnt-make-proper-diagnosis/">OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT</a>. Google has recently introduced its AI chatbot, Bard, as a competitor in the field. However, allegations of intellectual theft have emerged, with claims that Google copied the technology from Microsoft-owned OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT. Google has now responded to these allegations. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google denies it copied ChatGPT to train its own AI chatbot Bard</strong></h2>

<p>The allegations were sparked by a report in The Information, which claimed that ChatGPT&#8217;s success has prompted two AI research teams within Alphabet, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/30/google-pixel-receiving-android-13-qpr3-beta2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google&#8217;s parent company</a>, to set aside their intense rivalry and collaborate. The report stated that engineers from Google&#8217;s Brain AI group are working alongside employees at DeepMind, a sibling company within Alphabet, on a joint effort called Gemini. This collaboration reportedly began after Google&#8217;s initial attempt to compete with OpenAI&#8217;s chatbot through Bard stumbled.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="561" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/google-bard-openai-chatgpt.jpeg?x96852" alt="Google Bard vs OpenAI chatGPT" class="wp-image-526495" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/google-bard-openai-chatgpt.jpeg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/google-bard-openai-chatgpt-300x168.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/google-bard-openai-chatgpt-768x431.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/google-bard-openai-chatgpt-696x390.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/google-bard-openai-chatgpt-749x420.jpeg 749w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p>In a conversation with The Verge, a Google spokesperson refuted these allegations, stating, &#8220;Bard is not trained on any data from ShareGPT or ChatGPT.&#8221; Google has also announced the early access release of Bard as an experimental collaboration with generative AI for users. Bard&#8217;s early access is currently available in the United States and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand its availability to more countries and languages. Like its competitors OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT and Microsoft&#8217;s Bing chatbot, Bard is based on a large language model (LLM). It employs a lightweight and optimized version of LaMDA, which Google has confirmed will be updated with newer, more capable models in the future.</p>

<p>Users can interact with Bard by asking questions and refining their responses through follow-up questions. This interactive approach will allow users to explore the capabilities of Google&#8217;s AI chatbot and provide valuable feedback for future development. Despite allegations of copying ChatGPT, Google remains committed to its independent development and providing a unique AI chatbot experience for its users. The company has taken a firm stance against the accusations and continues to invest in the evolution of its own AI technology.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/china/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">China&#8217;s</a> tech giants are facing significant hurdles in their race to develop and dominate the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/artificial-intelligence/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">artificial intelligence</a> (AI) market, with censorship and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/01/31/huawei-cut-off-us-supplier-intel/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">US clampdown</a> on chip imports impeding progress.</p>

<p>Last week, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/baidu/">Baidu</a>, one of China&#8217;s leading search engines, unveiled its chatbot, Ernie Bot, but the demonstration fell short of expectations, leaving the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/17/baidu-shares-fall-launch-ernie-bot-rival-of-chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">firm&#8217;s shares down by 10%</a>. The company&#8217;s AI ambitions have been hampered by censorship, which requires Baidu to limit the scope of its chatbot&#8217;s capabilities to avoid politically and factually incorrect answers.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-1024x576.jpg?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-525157" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/chatgpt.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Source: digitalhungary</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>This comes as Chinese tech firms including <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/alibaba/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alibaba</a>, JD.com, Netease, and Bytedance&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tiktok/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TikTok</a> are rushing to develop <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI</a> services that can replicate human speech. The competition was sparked by the launch of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT</a> in November, which caused a frenzy in the Chinese market.</p>

<p>However, China&#8217;s tech ecosystem faces challenges that could hinder its progress in the AI market. The lack of funding for open-ended research with no clear path to profitability is a key issue, according to Matt Sheehan, a fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the US has imposed a squeeze on chip imports, which could hamper Chinese tech firms&#8217; ability to develop AI technologies. This comes as Google announced the launch of its AI <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chatbot/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">chatbot</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/07/google-bard-ai-technology-rival-chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bard</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/21/google-invites-pixel-superfans-bard-ai/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">invited people</a> in the US and the UK to test it, as the company seeks to catch up with OpenAI in the race for AI dominance.</p>

<p>Despite the challenges facing Chinese tech firms, brokerages such as Citigroup have given positive reviews of Ernie Bot, and the firms&#8217; shares rallied the day after the lackluster unveiling. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Chinese tech giants will be able to keep pace with their international rivals in the rapidly evolving AI market.</p>

<h2><strong>Some Googlers reportedly aren’t happy about Bard’s ‘rushed’ announcement </strong></h2>

<p>Bard, the new AI chatbot from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a>, caused a loss of 100 billion dollars due to providing incorrect answers during a promotional event. This situation not only upset investors but also Google employees. They have expressed their dissatisfaction with Bard&#8217;s performance on the company&#8217;s internal message boards, and some have directed their criticism towards CEO Sundar Pichai.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-1024x576.jpg?x96852" alt="" class="wp-image-514960" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/bard-announcement-criticized-by-google-employees.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Adding to the negative response, a presenter at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a>&#8216;s search event forgot the phone they were going to use to demonstrate one of Bard&#8217;s features, and some employees were reportedly not even aware of the event taking place. One user wrote a highly upvoted post on the company&#8217;s internal message boards, calling the Bard launch and layoffs &#8220;rushed, botched, and myopic.&#8221; Other employees compared the past year at Google to a &#8220;dumpster fire&#8221; and expressed concerns about the company&#8217;s reputation.</p>

<p>In December, Pichai and AI head Jeff Dean reportedly expressed concerns about the risks associated with releasing an AI tool too early. However, the company seemed to change its tune after OpenAI&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ChatGPT/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ChatGPT</a> tool became widely available, and enlisted the help of Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin to help plan the company&#8217;s response.</p>

<p>Google&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ChatGPT/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ChatGPT</a> rival, Bard, will not be widely available for several weeks, but with Microsoft planning to disrupt web search with its own chatbot, it is no surprise that Google wanted to showcase Bard, even if it was earlier than expected. Despite the initial setbacks, it remains to be seen how the chatbot will perform and if it will be well-received by the public.</p>

<p>Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots are becoming increasingly common day by day. The process, which started with OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT, has nearly caused the internet to change and reshape. In an attempt to catch up with this fast-moving trend, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/07/google-bard-ai-technology-rival-chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google recently announced its own</a> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/07/google-bard-ai-technology-rival-chatgpt/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">chatbot, Bard</a>. While many people expect ChatGPT to be replaced by Bard to be the most used AI, artificial intelligence causes $100 billion market loss with incorrect James Webb Telescope answer. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Google’s AI Chatbot Bard Causes $100 Billion Market Loss With Incorrect James Webb Telescope Answer</strong></h2>

<p>Google introduced Bard with high hopes and even organized an event to showcase its capabilities. During a live-streamed event, Bard was asked to explain new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old. The AI provided two correct answers that accurately understood the question. However, it made a significant error by claiming that the James Webb Space Telescope was the first to take images of exoplanets, when in reality, the Very Large Telescope of the European Southern Observatory was the first to capture an image of an exoplanet in 2004.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/gweb-uniblog-publish-prod/original_images/magi_phone_stitch.gif" alt="Mobile phone showing a Search query for &quot;is piano or guitar easier to learn and how much practice does each need?&quot; The search result page displays an answer to the question, powered by AI" /><figcaption>Google&#8217;s AI chatbot Bard</figcaption></figure>

<p>As you can imagine, when the world was watching closely and Google was expected to demonstrate its power, the error caused a significant loss. Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, saw a loss of $100 billion in market value as a result. Alphabet shares also declined during regular trading, dropping as much as 9%. After hours, they had stabilized their losses somewhat. So, what was the reason for this significant loss of value?</p>

<p>Technology is one of the most volatile business sectors in the world. This industry, which is based on innovation, has caused many companies that could not keep pace with advancements to lose their popularity and become nearly obsolete in the market. Hardly any company has maintained its position at the top since its establishment.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-1024x576.jpg?x96852" alt="Google Bards vs OpenAI ChatGPT" class="wp-image-514744" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/googles-bard-causes-100-billion-loss.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Companies such as Nokia and Motorola have declined to the extent that they have been sold within just a few years. Investors are concerned that Google is losing ground in the wake of the sustained popularity of OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT. The Microsoft-backed AI chatbot has acquired 100 million users just two months after its launch, generating substantial excitement.</p>

<p>When asked the same question about the James Webb Space Telescope&#8217;s discoveries (simplified for a 9-year-old), ChatGPT provided a more correct and creative, albeit general, response, emphasizing the telescope&#8217;s ability to search for and study exoplanets, observe the birth of stars and galaxies, study dark matter and dark energy, and search for signs of life. It is expected that Google will improve Bard in the future to provide clearer and more accurate answers. However, it is not known whether the company will turn its focus to artificial intelligence-centered answers and throw the search business into the background.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> has announced its new conversations artificial intelligence (AI) technology called Bard, which the company says will start rolling out in the coming weeks, without specifying a date.</p>

<p>Bard, which will directly compete with ChatGPT created by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/openai">OpenAI</a>, is powered by Google&#8217;s large language model called Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA).</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="1000" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search.webp?x96852" alt="Google Bard Search Results" class="wp-image-513827" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search.webp 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search-300x300.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search-150x150.webp 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search-768x768.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search-696x696.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Bard-Powered-Search-420x420.webp 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure></div>

<p>Google has revealed that it will open up this new technology to &#8220;trusted testers&#8221; before making it available for a wider range of audience or before the public release.</p>

<p>Making the announcement, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, said: <em>&#8220;Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web: whether that’s seeking out additional perspectives, like blogs from people who play both piano and guitar, or going deeper on a related topic, like steps to get started as a beginner.&#8221;</em></p>

<p>The development comes after an all-hands meeting was organized at Google where employees raised concerns about the company&#8217;s competitive edge in the Artificial Intelligence technology space because of the sudden rise in popularity of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chatgpt">ChatGPT</a>. As per the reports, Google’s AI chief, Jeff Dean, responded by saying that the company can suffer reputation risk in providing wrong information, and that&#8217;s why it is taking slow and cautious steps before rolling out more AI-based features.</p>

<p>As of now, Google has not revealed more details about Bard and what the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/technology">technology</a> will actually be capable of, apart from giving a couple of examples. However, we expect to get more information in the upcoming &#8220;Google Presents&#8221; event, which is scheduled to take place on 8th February in Paris.</p>
