<p>Although the first product that comes to mind when Microsoft is mentioned is always Windows, the company is not limited to just one product. This is because the American tech giant is successful not only in software but also in hardware. Especially, the Surface laptop and 2-in-1 products are quite noteworthy. Now, the company is organizing an event. During this event, Microsoft will announce products and developments such as Surface Pro 10, Surface Laptop 6, Windows 11 AI updates, and Copilot advancements. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Microsoft Exclusive Showcase on March 21 for Surface and Windows Innovations</strong></h2>

<p>Microsoft will organize an event on March 21, 2024, themed &#8220;<a href="https://news.microsoft.com/september-2023-event/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new era of work</a>.&#8221; The event will showcase new developments and products related to Microsoft Surface, Windows, and Copilot. Expectations include the introduction of new versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 models.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-1024x576.jpeg?x10805" alt="Microsoft Surface" class="wp-image-610058" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/microsoft-new-era-of-work-event.jpeg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The Microsoft Surface Pro 10 is anticipated to feature an ARM processor and an updated design, while the Surface Laptop 6 is predicted to include an Intel processor and an updated design. Also, new artificial intelligence-based features and improvements for Windows 11 will be introduced during this event. It is expected that these updates will enhance collaboration and productivity.</p>

<p>Microsoft&#8217;s AI-powered assistant, Copilot, will also unveil new features and functionalities, aiming to assist users more effectively and optimize workflows. Also keep in mind, this is based on leaks, so the details could be wrong. Microsoft has not officially confirmed any product or feature. Therefore, it&#8217;s possible that some of the mentioned products may not exist, and surprises could be in store.</p>

<p>For example, we might see new and updated versions of long-silent series, such as Microsoft Surface Studio. Of course, apart from waiting for March 21st, there&#8217;s nothing else we can do at the moment.</p>

However, the laptop in question will apparently feature a design similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft-surface/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Microsoft Surface</a> series.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-423129 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-104.png?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="529" height="419" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-104.png 631w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-104-300x238.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Screenshot-104-530x420.png 530w" sizes="(max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px" /></p>
<p>The leak was shared on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website) by @长安数码君. The tipster revealed that the brand is planning to release a new 2 in 1 laptop in China this month. This means that it would be a product similar to the Microsoft Surface. Looking at the leaked image poster, we can see that the upcoming 2 in 1 laptop sports a high screen to body ratio and is a thin and light PC.</p>
<p>The image also revealed other information like a weight of just 709 grams but with a price tag that will be higher than previous <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-matebook-e/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">MateBook E</a> 2 in 1 laptops. For those unaware, this is not the first time the company has launched a notebook of this format. Back in 2017, the brand had <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/23/huawei-covers-bases-matebook-e-matebook-x-matebook-d/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">first released the first 2 in 1</a> as apart of the new MateBook E series. Furthermore, its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/11/huawei-announces-matebook-e-2019-powered-by-snapdragon-850/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">successor</a> was released in China in 2019.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-423130 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/69744744ly1gw339fm30dj20yc1pzwld.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="360" height="650" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/69744744ly1gw339fm30dj20yc1pzwld.jpg 360w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/69744744ly1gw339fm30dj20yc1pzwld-166x300.jpg 166w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/69744744ly1gw339fm30dj20yc1pzwld-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px" /></p>
<p>Now, it like a newer generation will be launching later this month. Unfortunately, finer details regarding this laptop like its specifications is unknown as of right now. Although, we do know that it would reportedly be launching on 17th November 2021 for a price of 7,088 Yuan (roughly 1,100 US Dollars).</p>

This move bears resemblance to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a>, who made a major shift away from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/02/02/apple-is-building-its-own-macbook-chip-to-reduce-dependence-on-intel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Intel CPUs for its own custom M1 processor</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-331989 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/microsoft.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft" width="1024" height="563" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/microsoft.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/microsoft-300x165.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/microsoft-768x422.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/microsoft-696x383.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/microsoft-764x420.jpg 764w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>The job listing was first <a href="https://careers.microsoft.com/professionals/us/en/job/1147341/Director-of-SoC-Architecture" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">posted back on September 3</a> and was spotted by <a href="https://hothardware.com/news/microsoft-exploring-in-house-silicon-design" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>HotHardware</em></a>. Looking at this listing, it appears that the American tech giant is seeking to hire someone to work for its Surface team that will &#8220;light up Microsoft experiences with the next generation of devices.&#8221; It also mentions how creating those devices involves &#8220;a close partnership between silicon, hardware and software engineers, designers, and manufacturing.&#8221; Notably, this role would have the person &#8220;defining the features and capabilities of SoC used on Surface devices.&#8221;</p>
<p>Interestingly, this is not the first time we&#8217;ve heard that the company is working on its own custom chipset. Back in December 2020, we had reported that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/21/microsoft-is-reportedly-working-on-its-own-arm-based-chipset/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Microsoft is working on its own ARM based processor</a> for servers and Surface series PCs. Furthermore, the company could reportedly also be partnering up with AMD for this ARM based chip. Previously, it has already working with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm</a> for the SQ1 and SQ2 chips that were found in the Surface Pro X, although, its performance was not on par with the Apple M1 chip.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-414435 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft" width="1248" height="708" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured.jpg 1248w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured-300x170.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured-768x436.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured-1024x581.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured-696x395.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured-1068x606.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsoft-surface-pro-8-featured-740x420.jpg 740w" sizes="(max-width: 1248px) 100vw, 1248px" /></p>
<p>As of right now, Microsoft does use its own custom chips for the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop Studio, which allows it to offer haptic feedback for inking with the Surface Slim Pen 2. With Apple having shifted to its own custom chips, it isn&#8217;t surprising when other tech giants are also rumored to follow suit. So stay tuned for more updates.</p>

<p>Making the announcement, Microsoft <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/surface-it-pro-blog/more-spares-now-available-for-commercial-customers/ba-p/2203299">said</a>, &#8220;We have a longstanding commitment to maximize product life, minimize waste, use more renewable resources, and improve the modularity, reparability, and recyclability of our devices—including our packaging.&#8221;</p>
<p>The company added that it is working with industry partners to make available more repair options that ensure the quality of repairs, safeguard consumer’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/privacy">privacy</a> and security, and help protect consumers from injury.</p>
<p>Microsoft Surface devices are pretty difficult to repair but the company seems to be responding to the user complaints and is improving the repairability of its devices. For instance, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/02/surface-laptop-3-launched-brings-new-15-size-with-ryzen-surface-edition-processor/">Surface Laptop 3</a> has a repairability score of 5/10 by iFixit which is a significant improvement over Surface Laptop and Surface Pro 7, which scored 0 and 1 points out of 10, respectively.</p>
<p>With the expansion of available spare parts, it will be a bit easier to repair the Surface devices. Microsoft adds that previously released spare parts are only available in the United States. The company also recommends that skilled IT technicians perform any repairs on the company&#8217;s devices, which makes sense, given the difficulties involved in the process.</p>

A <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/event">dedicated page</a> is now live that confirms the next-gen Microsoft Surface launch date to be September 22. Not only does this page talk about the launch details, but also gives out a glimpse of how one of the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft-surface">Surface</a> devices is going to look like. With these two big reveals lined up, Microsoft is certainly going to be at the center of discussion, at least for a couple of weeks.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="alignnone wp-image-409729 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-1024x565.png?x10805" alt="Microsodt Surface Sep. 22 event" width="1024" height="565" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-1024x565.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-300x166.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-768x424.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-696x385.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-1068x589.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event-761x420.png 761w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Microsodt-Surface-Sep.-22-event.png 1426w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>After having chalked up an impressive 9-year journey, Surface is once again set to stir enthusiasts. However, what remains to be seen is that how many of these Surface devices are in the pipeline. Microsoft has kept it short and crisp with no major hints whatsoever, so relying on leaks and smart guesses is the only way to find it out.</p>
<p>As speculated by <a href="https://www.slashgear.com/microsoft-announces-windows-11-event-with-surface-for-september-01689163/">Slashgear</a>, we may finally get to see the Surface Duo 2 for which <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/27/microsoft-surface-duo-2-has-snapdragon-888-reveals-geekbench-listing/">there were leaks sporadically</a> throughout the year. If history is anything to go by, there will be more devices tagging along with Surface Duo 2. Seen in the teaser image is, what appears to be, the successor of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/02/microsoft-surface-pro-7-officially-launched-finally-comes-with-usb-c/">Surface Pro 7</a> that comes with a similar detachable stand and keyboard as accessories which means the Surface Pro 8 is in sight. The portfolio may further expand with the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/28/microsoft-surface-laptop-4-arrives-in-india-in-amd-and-intel-variants-starts-at-rs-102999/">Surface Book 4</a>.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s about time we mark our calendars for September 22 at 11 AM ET to live stream the big event. Microsoft will certainly air it on the website, but watching the launch on YouTube is something that is always an alternative.</p>
<p>Since <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/31/windows-11-gets-october-5-release-date-as-a-free-upgrade-for-eligible-devices/">Windows 11 has a dedicated day</a> for its introduction, we do not expect much to be highlighted on September 22. The stage is only going to be occupied by the Surface lineup.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/smartphones/microsoft-surface/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>LetsGoDigital</em> </a>report, the American tech giant had opened a vacancy for a &#8216;Principal Android Camera System Architect / Engineer for Surface Development&#8217; back in October 2021. This is indicative of the company&#8217;s aim of improving the camera capabilities of its devices. In the same month, the brand had also filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) regarding this &#8216;Logo Camera&#8217; design for a Surface device. The four cameras in question will be positioned similar to the logo design with each camera having its own color filter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-393764 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft" width="583" height="445" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-300x229.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-768x587.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-696x532.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-550x420.jpg 550w" sizes="(max-width: 583px) 100vw, 583px" /></p>
<p>These four sensors will be placed under the display of the device and are intended for &#8220;mobile computing device, such as a Microsoft Surface device.&#8221; Furthermore, the cameras can display a color icon when the sensor is not in use to display the company&#8217;s logo on the front. So, the device will display the logo by default and switch to the camera when the shutter is activated. This quad camera module is set up in a 2 x 2 array and will enable Microsoft to make the product slimmer since multiple sensors would be comprised of thinner modules.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-393763 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft" width="565" height="408" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-300x217.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-768x555.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-324x235.jpg 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-696x503.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-581x420.jpg 581w" sizes="(max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px" /></p>
<p>The camera will be capable of offering high resolution shots and high pixel density by optimizing each sensor for one particular color. In other words, one sensor will be solely for Blue, while another will be used for Green, Red, and Yellow. Unfortunately, the patent doesn&#8217;t reveal what kind of device the logo camera will be housed in, but the Surface lineup includes laptops, 2 in 1 PCs, and even Android tablets. For those interested, LetsGoDigital&#8217;s in house designed <a href="https://www.youtube.com/snoreyn/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Giuseppe Spinelli</a> has even offered a number of product renders that feature this unique camera system.</p>

Recently, with the launch of new Apple M1-chipset powered Mac devices, the company officially started the transition process from Intel to Apple Silicon.</p>
<p>Now, as per the <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-12-18/microsoft-msft-is-designing-its-own-chips-in-move-away-from-intel-intc">report from Bloomberg News</a>, Microsoft is also following the lead of Apple and is reportedly working on its own ARM-based chipset. The company is developing the new chip with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-10">Windows 10</a> support and is mainly for the data centers but is also expected to power Surface devices.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_347906" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-347906" style="width: 960px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-347906 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-X-SQ2-Featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft Surface Pro X SQ2 Featured" width="960" height="627" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-X-SQ2-Featured.jpg 960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-X-SQ2-Featured-300x196.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-X-SQ2-Featured-768x502.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-X-SQ2-Featured-696x455.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-X-SQ2-Featured-643x420.jpg 643w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-347906" class="wp-caption-text">Microsoft Surface Pro X powered by Qualcomm SQ2</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The Redmond-based tech giant is currently using <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/intel">Intel</a>-based processors for the majority of its Azure cloud services. Also, the company&#8217;s Surface devices lineup is powered by Intel processors. But now, it seems that Microsoft is ready to move on.</p>
<p>The company recently worked with AMD and Qualcomm for designing custom chips for the Surface Laptop 3 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/14/microsoft-surface-pro-x-sq2-india-launch-price-specs-features/">Surface Pro X</a>, underlining the fact that Intel could get replaced soon. But similar to the process of Apple, it is likely to happen in a phased manner.</p>
<p>Microsoft is reportedly working on offering devices with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/arm">ARM</a>-based chipset for quite some time now and is also improving its support for Windows 10 operating system. However, unlike <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a>, the company has a much wider footprint of technology.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> </strong><a title="SMIC ban by the U.S. will affect advanced chip development" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/21/smic-ban-chip-development/" rel="bookmark"><strong>Chinese chipset maker SMIC says ban by the U.S. will affect advanced chip development</strong></a></p>
<p>Its product is used by different manufacturers and is powered by different chipsets. Thus, whatever <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft">Microsoft</a> creates need to have wider compatibility and be universal. It will be interesting to see the development in this area.</p>
<p>Apart from Apple and Microsoft, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/amazon">Amazon</a> also possesses a threat to Intel as well as AMD. The eCommerce giant, which is also the leading cloud infrastructure provider with AWS, has its own ARM-based Graviton2 processors.</p>
<p>Although the new chipsets based on ARM architecture offer better performance, longer battery life, and are cheaper, they still have a smaller market share and the majority of the market is dominated by Intel and AMD.</p>

The new Surface lineup was not updated last year. But it is sure getting a successor this year dubbed as Surface Go 2, that too within a few weeks from now, claims MSPoweruser.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/microsoft/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Microsoft Surface</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> lineup of convertibles is popular among business people, artists, and even some developers. The Redmond tech giant introduced a tablet in the series called Surface Go with support for stylus and keyboard in mid-2018. </span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-200487 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Microsoft-Surface-Go__-1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft Surface Go" width="696" height="392" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Microsoft-Surface-Go__-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Microsoft-Surface-Go__-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Microsoft-Surface-Go__-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Microsoft-Surface-Go__-1280x720.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Microsoft-Surface-Go__.jpg 900w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Though it was released as a competitor to </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Apple/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Apple</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> iPads, the king of tablets, it was no close to it in terms of specifications and power. Instead, it focussed on providing the power of the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Windows-10/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Windows 10</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> operating system in hands to a niche audience. And it seems to be worked out for </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Microsoft/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Microsoft</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, at least in the US as they are sold out in the region.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is why the speculations have begun and even the insiders are suggesting the launch of a new model called Surface Go 2. In February, a benchmark even confirmed the existence of this device powered by the 8th gen </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Intel/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Intel </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">Core m3-8100Y dual-core processor. This CPU will not bring much difference in terms of performance but will be at least better than the Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y CPU present in the original Surface Go.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Further, just like its predecessor, the Microsoft Surface Go 2 could start at $399 and go up to $650 for the high-end model with LTE. As for availability, it is possible the company might start taking orders in May itself.</span></p>

The patent depicts a peculiar device that resembles the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/surface-duo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Surface Duo</a> but with three displays on a single hinge mechanism. This may be a new product the Microsoft Surface team is currently working on.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-314113 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110215_362.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft" width="671" height="420" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110215_362.jpg 671w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110215_362-300x188.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px" /></p>
<p>According to the patent, the new Microsoft device features two separate screens brought together with a single hinge mechanism in the middle. This also makes it quite similar to the Surface Duo and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/surface-neo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Neo</a>. Apart from the twin primary displays, the patent also reveals a much smaller third display which looks like a status bar on the edge of the device.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/01/mi-true-wireless-earphones-2-basic-gets-bluetooth-certification-should-launch-as-redmi-airdots-2/">Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic gets Bluetooth Certification; should launch as Redmi AirDots 2</a></strong></h6>
<p>Looking at the patent, the third screen has been labeled as Control Logic and might be an area for a few particular functionalities. This edge screen may have limited capabilities but could display, the time, notifications, show connected device and a lot more. Rather, Microsoft says users can also choose to have additional information being displayed through the smaller screen. An example of this could be missed calls and other important notifications being shown even if the primary displays aren&#8217;t active.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_314112" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-314112" style="width: 696px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-314112 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110158_983.jpg?x10805" alt="Microsoft" width="696" height="464" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110158_983.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110158_983-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/20200401_110158_983-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-314112" class="wp-caption-text">Microsoft Surface Duo</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>In the patent, a small description has also been found in the documents. It states that traditional smartphones have only one screen to display all the relevant information and notifications to users. So, Microsoft aims to address the issue with its newly patented idea for finding a new way to displays information, calls or even messages.</p>

The two models which happened to be Microsoft&#8217;s first attempt at the dual-screen phones was billed to be released in 2020. However, seems Microsoft has got another concept foldable phones in the works.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-306712" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent.png?x10805" alt="Microsoft Patent" width="1447" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent.png 1447w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent-212x300.png 212w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent-768x1087.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent-724x1024.png 724w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent-696x985.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent-1068x1512.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/microsoft-patent-297x420.png 297w" sizes="(max-width: 1447px) 100vw, 1447px" /></a></p>
<p>A recent patent application stumbled upon by MSPoweruser suggests the US company may be planning to launch a redesigned foldable phone that may have borrowed some design inspiration from the Galaxy Fold. The patent titled “FOLDABLE DISPLAY DEVICE WITH INTERACTABLE USER INTERFACE SURFACE ON THE EXTERNAL SHELL” was filed with the European Patent Office in 2018 and was published in December of 2019.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a title="How to delete download history on Android?" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/21/delete-android-download-history/" rel="bookmark">How to delete download history on Android?</a></strong></h6>
<p>The patent description details including a third screen at the back of a foldable smartphone so the user can interact with the phone without unfolding it into a tablet. Notably, this is the same concept used by Samsung on the Galaxy Fold which had an in-folding design with a small screen at the back that can be used when the phone is folded.</p>
<p>Interaction on the user interface surface during the closed state of the foldable display device may allow the user to select content to be shown on at least one display screen of the foldable display device on the interior section during a subsequent open state of the foldable display device.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/microsoft-foldable-surface-phone-feature.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-225635" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/microsoft-foldable-surface-phone-feature.jpg?x10805" alt="microsoft andromeda" width="1488" height="992" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/microsoft-foldable-surface-phone-feature.jpg 1488w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/microsoft-foldable-surface-phone-feature-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/microsoft-foldable-surface-phone-feature-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/microsoft-foldable-surface-phone-feature-1024x683.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1488px) 100vw, 1488px" /></a></p>
<p>Additionally, the user interface surface may be configured to allow an object produced (e.g., drawn or written) on the user interface surface to be stored for display on at least one of the first display screen, the second display screen, or the user interface surface. The interface will also allow users to transfer content to the bigger screen if they unfold the display. This could, in theory, allow seamless switching between displays and could improve the overall user experience.</p>

<p>The patent was filed back on 6th May 2019 and was published on 28th January 2020. In the patents, a device can be observed with a single large display that appears similar to the Surface Duo in terms of design. Unfortunately, the patent doesn&#8217;t divulge the unique device&#8217;s name and rather only carries the &#8220;hinge device&#8221; description, meaning it could either be a smartphone or a PC with a foldable display.</p>

<p>Electronic products with foldable display have become increasingly more popular since early 2019 when major brands like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung</a> unveiled one of the first smartphones with a bendable display (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-fold-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy Fold</a>). Since then, other smartphone OEMs like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Huawei</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/motorola/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Motorola</a> have also released their own offerings with similar features, namely <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/23/huawei-mate-x-5g-foldable-officially-released-in-china-limited-sale-starts-from-november-15/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mate X</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-razr-2019/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Moto Razr</a>. This technology has even transferred to televisions that will arrive with a rollable display (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/01/08/lg-signature-oled-tv-r-with-roll-up-display-showcased-at-ces-2019/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LG Signature R</a>).</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/29/again-apple-watch-comes-to-the-rescue-of-a-owner-with-an-undetected-heart-condition/">Again, Apple Watch comes to the rescue of a owner with an undetected heart condition</a></strong></h6>
<p>As of right now, no commercially available PC with a foldable display is available in the market but <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/07/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-fold-arrives-with-a-foldable-oled-display-priced-at-2499-17370-cny/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lenovo is set to be the first to release one</a>. To supplement this, Microsoft is also working on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-10x/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Windows 10X</a> which is a version of the popular desktop operating system which will take advantage and be optimized for PCs with folding displays. Furthermore, Microsoft with its Surface Duo and Neo offerings have worked with dual or split screen devices so it doesn&#8217;t seem far fetched that a foldable Surface might be launched as well.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_280405" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-280405" style="width: 632px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-280405 " src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Surface-Duo-b.png?x10805" alt="Microsoft Surface Duo" width="632" height="448" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Surface-Duo-b.png 528w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Surface-Duo-b-300x213.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Surface-Duo-b-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-280405" class="wp-caption-text">Microsoft Surface Duo</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>According to the patent, a device with a hinge can be observed which supports the flexible display unit. Unlike the Surface Duo, the device in the patent features one large display instead of two separate ones. Currently, the technology is expensive and not nearly as durable as regular screens. Hence, Microsoft might delay product launch and might look for a better alternative; or just as likely, never use the patent designs at all.</p>

<p>Sadly, the teaser does not give any information about the specs of the devices which will be announced at the event, and we do not even know which devices from the Microsoft Surface line-up will be announced. If we base on previous announcements, we should see one of the following devices:</p>
<ul>
<li>A new Microsoft Surface Laptop</li>
<li>The sequel of Microsoft Surface Studio</li>
<li>A new Microsoft Surface Pro</li>
<li>Microsoft Surface Book 3</li>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In case you do not know, the first case we are talking about is the successor of the first ultrabook from the Redmond giant. The second would be an All-in-One PC for productivity and graphics, while the third would definitely be the most awaited device from the company as it is its next 2-in-1. At last, the fourth device would be an even higher-end detachable laptop. Which devices do you expect to see at the event?</p>
