Oppo has recently purchased a number of new patents from another brand. The company has acquired around 100 patents assets from Sharp, which are related to a number of field ranging from wireless communication to even video coding.

For those unaware, both companies had ended their global patent disputes with a cross licensing agreement back in October 2021. Now, the Chinese smartphone maker has acquired a number of patents from Sharp, which also showcases their growing cooperating between both parties in the field of patents. As of right now, Oppo has been actively filing for patents while also purchasing high quality assets as well.

According to an ITHome report, the brand has bought a family of US patents related to wireless communications. At the same time, the company has also purchased a family of 4 video coding patents (H.266). The smartphone maker has been acquiring patents from other firms since last year, so the latest transaction with Sharp is in line with its previous transactions.

Back in May 2021, Oppo had purchased at least 47 wireless communications patents from ZTE, which were related to base stations, terminals, networks and wireless communications. Similarly, it has also bought cooperation or patent transactions with the entity companies or NPEs like Ericsson, Sharp, Dolby, Inventergy, and Intellectual Ventures.

Oppo might be working on a new Reno series of smartphone that features a unique camera system. The company has recently filed a patent for a handset that sports a multi directional camera module.

According to a LetsGoDigital report, the Chinese smartphone maker has filed a patent with a WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) that was approved earlier this week. The patent describes a handset that houses a unique camera module that is capable of taking images from the side of the device as well. Looking at the design sketches seen in the patent, the smartphone will feature a rear facing camera, which is the norm but with a mechanism that lets its primary sensor to also take images from the side as well.

To take images from the side, the company has a cut out on one side of the device, which will allow the primary lens to basically shift its focus to the side through the use of a mirror. In other words, the sensor itself does not move nor does the phone require an additional sensor that is aligned to the side. One practical application of this type of camera system is that the primary could automatically detect when a particular subject is moving outside of the frame and to the right. So the user won’t have to worry about the subject going out of frame since the side cut out would boost its field of view.

As of right now, it is unclear if Oppo is actually working on such a product or is just covering all bases. Furthermore, the device with such a unique camera system is likely to be a higher end model, so it could be a part of the Reno series. Although, this is just speculation at the moment, so take it with a pinch of salt and stay with us for more updates regarding this matter.

When it comes to innovative patents, OPPO is one of the Chinese companies with large resources. From camera technology to display technology to sound, we have seen several patents filed by the company, many of which are yet to be commercialized. A new innovative patent filed by OPPO has yet again been spotted.

The patent filed by OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. is for a “Screen Sounding Method, Device, Electronic Device, and Storage Medium.” The filing has the patent number CN109062536B and was first filed on July 23, 2018, but received approval from the Chinese Patent Office on August 17, 2021.

The patent page describes it as a method, device, electronic device, and storage medium for screen sounding, and relates to the technical field of electronic devices. The electronic device includes a screen capable of vibrating and sounding and an exciter for driving the screen to produce sound. The screen features several sound-producing areas each driven by different exciters. A scenario of how this works is given as during video playback, the method monitors whether the video is played in a small window and then selects a target sound area different from the position of the small window of the video. It then drives the target sound area to vibrate and sound through an exciter.

Basically, this is a method for sound production using the screen and without relying on sound-producing devices such as speakers. The patent is likely part of the move to dive smartphones to their thinnest form factor. A couple of years back, bone conduction technology seems to have been a solution, and Xiaomi even utilized it on the first-gen MIX smartphone. That didn’t eventually catch on. We can’t say for sure if this technology will be included in an OPPO phone any time soon.

The post OPPO granted patent for Screen sound production method, an alternative to bulky speakers appeared first on Gizmochina.

Oppo has recently been granted a patent for a new technology that could be used in its future wearable devices. The company has patented a vein unlocking tech, which is likely a form of a biometric security system.

The new technology has a patent number of CN110298944B and describes a “Venous Unlocking Method and Vein Unlocking Device.” Oppo had applied for this patent back in 2019, which was only recently granted. As per the description, the patent is for a vein unlocking technology. In other words, a biometric system similar to facial recognition or fingerprint scanning but one that maps the veins on the users’ hands. Notably, this technology also bears a close resemblance to the Hand ID system from LG, which mapped the thickness and characteristics of a user’s veins for unlocking.

So, we can expect the system to map and record vein’s thickness to verify the identity and to authorize access. While the finer details of this technology are currently unknown, the patented system could potentially have a number of applications in various electronic products from the Chinese tech giants. This holds especially true for the company’s wearable products like smart bands or smart watches. Unfortunately, it is unclear if the company is actually working on such a system as of right now or is just covering all bases.

When it comes to smartphone innovation, OPPO has been at the forefront with a bunch of new introductions and patents from the Chinese brand. And the patents and announcements don’t seem to stop. We have already seen OPPO X 2021, OPPO rollable concept phone, and now, the company has filed a new patent for a dual-sided smartphone with a Wrap-Around display. 

OPPO has filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) with documentation called ‘Method for assembling and disassembling electronic equipment’. It elaborates on the assembling and disassembling methods of such dual-sided flexible screens. 

A quick look at the patent, and we can see the schematics of the phone, with thin bezels and sharp corners. The schematics do give us an idea of how it might look, but the concept images shared by LetsGoDigital give us a better idea of how the design would look when materialized.  

Jermaine Smit, the guy behind Concept Creator has collaborated with the folks at LetsGoDigital. The concept renders by him looks very interesting. As mentioned earlier, the device has super-thin bezels and the left side has the display flowing towards the back. Although the display is extended and wrapped around it isn’t curved, rather it is sharp and has a cutting edge design.

OPPO is said to be using an ultra-thin steel plate between the display and the frame which allows them to place relatively thin screens.  

Moving to the rear, the renders show the rear camera setup. It has four sensors and an LED flash beneath the lenses. As it is a full-screen phone with a display wrapped around it, we can say that the rear camera can be used as a selfie sensor by looking at the extended display as a viewfinder.  

With only the screen on one side, the volume rockers have been placed on the very right edge if you have a look at the phone from the front.  

Other than this, we have also seen something similar from Huawei in the past. The Chinese smartphone giant had patented a dual-sided phone with a similar wrap-around display back in 2020. The one major difference in Huawei’s patent was it had curved edges instead of sharp ones like this OPPO patent. In case you missed it, we’ve already seen a device in real life with a wrap-around display — the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha. 

As it is just in the patent stage, we have to wait and see if this design materializes into a real smartphone in the coming years.

Earlier today (26th April 2021), Oppo revealed during its World Intellectual Property Day that it has applied for more than 61,000 patents across the globe as of 31st March 2021. Out of this large figure, 89 percent of these were invention patents.

According to an ITHome report, 54,000 out the total figures are invention patents. The Chinese tech giant also stated that it will continue to increase investment and layout in various fields to create better technological experience for users in the future. At the moment, the company has six research institutes and five research and development centers across the globe.

A number of these applications were also regarding mobile phone camera lenses. These also included video tracking and 94 patents for imaging systems. Recently, the company even patented a mobile gaming controller that even had an earphone storage compartments. Similarly, the brand also patented designs for a detachable design which resemble the Microsoft Surface Book.

For those unaware, patents are an important part of any tech giant’s business as each OEM tries to innovate or design unique and distinct new products for the mass market. Although, 61,000 patents is still an impressive figure nonetheless.

Back in January 2021, we had reported that Oppo was working on its own Bluetooth Smart Tag device. Now, the design of this smart tag has been revealed in patent images prior to its official launch.

The Smart Tag from the Chinese tech giant will be functionally similar to the Galaxy SmartTag from Samsung, which was announced along with the Galaxy S21 series. So, it was also assumed at the time that we might see Oppo’s iteration of this device being launched alongside the Find X3 series. Now, the Smart Tag from the company has been spotted in a recent patent filing with China’s CNIPA, as per a 91Mobiles report. The patent carries a number of images that are a bit different from the ones spotted earlier this year.

The Oppo Smart Tag appears to be flatter than and a bit larger than before. It features a rectangular design with rounded edges. In the middle, a circular design with the smartphone maker’s branding can be observed. Notably, the patent does not reveal any seam or hole that will allow one to attach the device to a personal item. For those unaware, smart tags are essentially small Bluetooth enabled devices that help locate certain items and objects, which they are attached to.

In other words, it helps find items like keys or a bag if they are lost but still connected to your smartphone. Unfortunately, it is unclear if this is the final design the company would opt for. So, we will have to wait for the official announcement, which will arrive when the Find X3 series launches on the 11th of March 2021. So stay tuned.

On Christmas Day 2020, we reported that OPPO had patented a rollable smartphone concept design in collaboration with Tom Ford, a popular American fashion designer and filmmaker. Now, a couple of months later, it turns out that the Chinese tech company has actually infringed the intellectual property of Tom Ford.

LetsGoDigital was the first to spot this patent. As per the publication, Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications filed this concept design patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) on February 24, 2020. This means the company filed the patent two weeks after the announcement of Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition.

A few days after LetsGoDigital’s article went live, Tom Ford International LLC filed a claim with the publication to take down all the images. The fashion firm issued the following statement.

“There is no collaboration between Tom Ford and OPPO. There is no such product being developed. In addition, the images include improper and misleading use of the TOM FORD trademark.”

Interestingly, even OPPO gave a similar statement.

“We can confirm that there is no collaboration between OPPO and Tom Ford.”

This begs the question, Why did then OPPO use the ‘TOM FORD’ trademark? Our guess is that the company might have gone ahead and patented the design even before initiating the talks on partnership. The firm might have considered this decision seeing the popularity of Samsung’s collaboration with Thom Browne.

Additionally, the images in the patent documentation also use iPhone 11’s official wallpaper with minute changes in colors. This was yet another red flag in the patent and we wonder why OPPO decided to submit a patent with both Apple and Tom Ford’s intellectual properties.

OPPO has been patenting interesting smartphone designs lately. One such weird patent we saw back in November showed a Block structure for foldables. Now, its new Patent makes a second screen within the rear Camera layout possible.

The patent, filed by OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd at CNIPA(China National Intellectual Property Administration) has been published on February 19. The patent shows a design just another Smartphone design upfront until you turn it over to the back.

As you can see below, the rear has a circular camera layout with cut-outs for lenses and a small hole likely an LED flash. Inside the layout, there’s another circular layout. OPPO intends to use this as a small Secondary display. In the patent, it has shown a colored render with use-case scenarios.

For instance, the small display can quickly serve for showing Time, Date as shown in the design. And there is always a possibility that the company could expand this by showing Quick Notifications, Fitness Data, and more.

Also, upfront, there is no Selfie camera present. This might make you wonder if OPPO intends to use the secondary display(as a viewfinder) so people can take selfies using the rear camera. However, we aren’t sure about it as it is smaller in Size.

Anyway, the rest of the design isn’t that different. We have a curved display at the front, an USB-C, SIM card slot, Speaker, a primary mic at the bottom, and a secondary mic up top.  Apart from the circular design, OPPO also has a sketch of a square-shaped rear layout with rounded edges.

As with every other patent, we aren’t sure if it would make it to the final design.

OPPO is known for developing weird smartphone designs. In fact, the company has already announced a smartphone with a rollable display OPPO X 2021 last year. It also patents interesting designs from time to time. Accordingly, the focus has lately been on designing the front camera. One such has been spotted by LetsGoDigital.

According to the report, OPPO‘s new patent has been published on January 28, 2021. It was applied last year by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). The design schematics shows a movable front camera for capturing selfies from various angles.

As you can see below, the arrangement on the top of the display upfront operates with the help of a drive motor. Apparently, it uses a guide block placed inside a rail bracket to move the sensor bi-directionally. That is, once the camera app is opened, users can adjust the position of the front camera and move it left/right.

Some of the use-case scenarios are taking side views of users while they are looking straight, Adjust the various compositions of images and capture it in multiple angles, comfortable panorama selfies, and more.

Speaking of which, OPPO’s recent patent with a pop-up camera and reflective mirror showed that a 360-degree panorama could be possible. Another design patent showed a detachable camera layout for selfies/video calls.

OPPO brought a shark-fin-shaped pop-up module with the Reno Series of smartphones. The company has also been experimenting with a few things with its Find-X series. Hence, we cannot guess which Series will get this design if at all it comes to light.

Either way, the latest patent also shows a flushed display with minimal bezels on all sides. Further, the report says that it also has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is a no-brainer these days.

OPPO was one of the early adopters of the pop-up camera mechanism along with the sister Vivo. The company also patents weird designs every now and then. Recently, we saw a circular pop-up camera module patented by OPPO. Today, we have another but this time it’s a double-sided design with a reflective mirror.

The patent, filed by OPPO at WIPO(World Intellectual Property Office) and spotted by LetsGoDigital has been applied in March 2020 and published later that year in October. Accordingly, the design shows a flat display upfront and clean as a slate rear panel. You might wonder where are the cameras right? Well, OPPO has decided it to hide like Xiaomi.

Last week, we saw a Xiaomi patent having a smartphone design with a reflective mirror. Similarly, OPPO is using a light path deflection mirror on its pop-up camera. However, OPPO’s patent shows not one but two mirrors(shape of mirror/prism Δ). Additionally, OPPO is making only the reflective mirrors move up and down so as to keep the cameras intact.

With pop-up design sitting flush and cameras facing up, the mirrors are kept perpendicular to them generally but can be altered to vary the type of photos you want. This enables it to use them both as Selfie and Rear cameras. And the fact that it can draw light from left/right sides is just the icing on the cake for 360˚ panorama shots.

To customize this, OPPO is said to use a button on the side as per the patent. Triggering it once will turn them into Selfie shooters whereas pressing it twice will point it backward. Other features like Single Camera activation at a time could also be possible as per the report.

Besides, when technology is moving towards under-display cameras, companies like Samsung have also been trying various designs of pop-up mechanisms. Nevertheless, Just like other patents, we aren’t sure if the OPPO’s patent would debut as a commercial device.

Earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series along with a new Bluetooth tracker, dubbed the Galaxy SmartTag. Now, it seems like Oppo is also following in the company’s footsteps and might also launch a Bluetooth smart tag as well for its upcoming Find X3 flagship handset.

According to a LetsGoDigital report, the new Bluetooth smart tag is another product in the company’s growing peripheral and IoT portfolio. Back in May 2020, the Chinee tech giant had filed a design patent in China for a “Bluetooth smart tag locator’. The documentation for this was published earlier today (26th Jan 2021) along with a series of images of the device. Looking at these images, the Oppo smart tag is a rectangular shaped device with rounded corners.

This design also resembles the company’s Oppo Watch case. On the top of the smart tag, the brand’s logo can be observed that is etched in the middle. Furthermore, the body of the tracker is shown to be in a black color scheme, which is also patented. On one of the corners, the Oppo Bluetooth smart tag also has a hole, which is likely to have a key ring pass through it. Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag featured a 4x4cm size, so we can expect Oppo’s counterpart to also feature’s a similar size and form factor.

The patented designs do not reveal any buttons in any of the images, although, Samsung’s tracer did feature one button for various functions. At the moment, it is unknown when the company aims at launching this smart tag, but we can assume it will be unveiled along with the company’s flagship handset, the Oppo Find X3 series. The series is expected to launch later this year, and it is possible that the Bluetooth smart tag will debut alongside it.

Lately, OPPO has been filing patents for a wide variety of smartphone designs. It even showcased the world’s first rollable concept smartphone last month in the form of OPPO X 2021. Now, a new design patent by the company imagines a smartphone with a detachable camera module.

This patent was filed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). We are not sure who found it first but 91Mobiles did not mention the filing and publication times of this patent.

Talking about the design, the phone used in the sketches seem to be generic with no notch or punch-hole on the front. Perhaps, it may have an under-display camera. But then again, there are no physical buttons or ports as well. Hence, we believe that it is indeed for illustration only.

Anyway, the main aspect of this patent is the detachable camera module located at the back. This module houses a dual-camera setup along with an LED flash and it connects with the phone via USB Type-C.

The connector port on this module can be adjusted up to 90° and therefore, the rear camera setup can also be used for selfies and video calls. In other words, it is similar to ASUS Zenfone 6 and Zenfone 7/7Pro but the camera module can be detached as well as replaced with a different supported module with another set of cameras.

Having said that, we don’t expect OPPO to release a commercial smartphone with this design. Because many others have tried modularity on mobile phones and have failed terribly.

With Huawei’s smartphone market share dropping, Xiaomi and OPPO came out as the beneficiaries in the third quarter of 2020 in Western Europe, as per IDC. The former has had a presence in these regions for a while now. But the latter has now begun to take advantage of Huawei’s situation. In order to excel, OPPO has also been filing various patents in the past few months. One such new smartphone design patent with a 15x zoom camera has emerged.

Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications filed this new smartphone design patent in July 2020. It got approved and published last month on November 6. As usual, LetsGoDigital was the first to find it and the publication even teamed up with Concept Creator (Jermaine Smit) for 3D renders.

According to the patent documents, this OPPO smartphone design includes a curved display on the front with a centered punch-hole. In case you do not know, for some unknown reason, only Samsung has released OLED smartphones with centered punch-hole so far.

But recently, Fujitsu Arrows NX9 F-52A became the first non-Samsung with such a display. However, this device will be limited to Japan and will only go on sale in late January. Hence, we think that this exclusivity has now ended and we may see more consumer-ready handsets as well as design patents with centered punch-hole OLED display in the future.

Coming back to the patent, the back of the handset houses a horizontally aligned triple camera setup. The original sketches do not have any text, but the 3D renders by Jermaine include ‘15X ZOOM’ lettering below the LED flash since this phone supports up to 15x hybrid zoom, as per documents.

If this sounds similar, then you aren’t alone. That’s because OPPO filed a similar smartphone design patent but with a circular pop-up camera module instead of a punch-hole. In other words, the placement of the selfie camera is the only major difference between these two designs.

Last but not least, the handset has a power key on the right side, volume buttons on the left side,  and a USB Type-C port at the bottom along with a speaker grille and a primary microphone. Concept Creator has included a 3.5mm headphone jack for fun, but do note that the original sketches do not have it.

Having said, unlike the design patent with a circular pop-up camera module, this one can be easily implemented without much complexity. Hence, OPPO can bring this design to the market if the company wants to.

OPPO is gearing up for tomorrow’s OPPO INNO DAY 2020 conference. Ahead of it, a smartphone design patent by the company has emerged. This design includes a circular pop-up selfie camera module and a 15x hybrid zoom camera module.

Recently, LetsGoDigital, a publication known for patent and trademark-related coverage has been posting stories on OPPO, probably in partnership with the company ahead of its biggest conferences of the year. 

Late last week, the publication posted a story on OPPO smartphone design with an extendable display. Now, today, the company itself confirmed that it will be showcasing a similar device at the event tomorrow.

A few hours later, LetsGoDigital has published another OPPO smartphone design patent story. Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications filed this patent in April but it got approved and published on November 12.

As mentioned in the beginning, this design features a single circular pop-up selfie camera module. That’s not all, it also houses a triple camera setup on the back with 15x hybrid zoom capability. 

But interestingly, none of the three cameras seems to feature a periscope lens as all of them are circular in shape. However, the renders created by Concept Creator shows a square-shaped module. Additionally, the design also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is no longer found in modern premium smartphones.

Further, unlike any other OPPO phone, the camera setup in this design is placed horizontally on the rear panel like on the Galaxy S10 series and Meizu 17 series. 

Anyway, we are not sure if the company will ever launch a commercial smartphone with this design. But the company may use the 15x hybrid camera system in a future device. In fact, it may even showcase it at tomorrow’s event.

Lately, OPPO has been patenting designs and utilities related to foldable smartphones. Only last week we covered a weird foldable design by the company with a block structure. Now, another design patent by the Chinese smartphone maker has emerged imagining a phone with an extendable display.

This patent was filed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) at the end of April 2020. But it got approved and published on November 13. As usual, LetsGoDigital was the first publication to find it.

The new OPPO design patent is identical to the upcoming rollable smartphone by LG, which is reported to launch next year under the company’s ‘Explorer Project’. This mysterious LG phone could debut as ‘LG Rollable’ but we don’t have any name for this OPPO patent.

The front design of this device is clean without any notch or punch-hole on the front. Hence, it could feature an under-display camera. Further, the sides are rounded with no buttons or whatsoever and the back of the phone only houses a single camera.

Above all, the most important part of this design is the screen. The display on this smartphone can be extended by pulling it upwards. Hence, it can be transformed into a traditional smartphone from a tiny phone from years ago.

Having said that, the only use case of this design is portability similar to the already available clamshell foldables like Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola razr.

So will OPPO implement this design in a consumer-grade product? We cannot tell for sure but the company may showcase it at the OPPO INNO DAY 2020 conference, which will take place on November 17.

OPPO is yet to launch a foldable smartphone but the company has been patenting designs for such devices for a while now. So far, almost all of them have been generic without much to brag about. But now, the company has filed four different patents that showcase smartphones that can fold multiple times sporting a unique block structure.

These four patents were filed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corp Ltd. with the Japan Patent Office (JPO) on May 11, 2020. But they got approved and published on November 2, 2020. We stumbled across them while confirming some details of the company’s under-display camera smartphone design patent earlier today.

Now that being said, let us have a look at all the four foldable smartphone design patents by OPPO.

Patent 1

This patent details a design with six blocks and two hinges. The phone folds inwards and the dual-camera setup with an LED flash is located at the bottom front. Whereas, the rear of the handset is blank.

Lastly, due to the two hinges, this handset can be folded either completely or half.

Patent 2

This design patent also has two hinges and six blocks. However, the triple camera setup with an LED flash is located at the back of the phone instead of the front. Above all, it is the only design out of four to fold both inwards and outward.

To be clear, the top portion of the phone folds inwards while the bottom section of the device folds outwards. Hence, it can be folded at both the hinges at a time, making it smaller to carry in pockets easily.

Patent 3

Unlike the first two patents, this one has a total of eight blocks but the number of hinges remains two. Interestingly, there are no cameras on this one. Maybe it features under-display cameras.

As far as folding is concerned, both the hinges fold outwards.

Patent 4

The last patent is similar to the previous one but with two differences. That means it also has two hinges and eight blocks.

But it folds inwards and also sports a triple camera setup on the back accompanied by an LED flash.

Having said that, we are not sure if these designs will ever make it to the hands of consumers in near future. Maybe they will but probably not now as foldables are still a new category of devices with risks like durability and app compatibility.

OPPO is one of the popular Chinese smartphone markers. It is a well-known brand in Asia. Lately, the company has been slowly expanding into markets like Europe to fill the void left by HUAWEI. The firm is known for selling both budget as well as high-end devices. It has now patented a smartphone design with an under-display camera and circular camera window.

Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications filed this smartphone design patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Office) at the end of 2019. However, it got approved and published only on October 23, 2020. As always, the patent was unearthed by LetsGoDigital.

At first sight, one can easily mistake the rear design to be of OnePlus 7T. The only difference between the two is that the patented design has an extra camera at the top. The design can be also compared with that of OPPO ACE2, however, the layout of the sensors is not identical on the latter phone though it has the same circular camera window.

That said, apart from the back design, the patent differs in terms of front design. Because it sports a curved screen with an under-display camera. Whereas, the OnePlus 7T and OPPO ACE2 feature flat panels with a dew-drop notch and a punch-hole respectively. Anyway, OPPO also patented the same design with a punch-hole too.

Interestingly, LetsGoDigital mentions the design to feature a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. But the hole looks so tiny for that and therefore, we are skeptical regarding this claim. It could be the secondary mic as the top of the handset is plain.

Last but not least, the bottom of the phone also houses a USB Type-C port and SIM card slot, whereas the left and the right side of the device sports volume rockers and power button respectively.

Chinese smartphone makers have recently started launching smartphones with curved displays. On the other hand, Samsung, the pioneer in this design reverted back to flat panels on its premium handsets. When we think about waterfall displays (super curved), OPPO and vivo are the two companies that come into mind. Now, another design patent for such a smartphone with an under-screen camera by the former firm comes into light.

Like always, the new OPPO design patent for a super curved display smartphone was unearthed by LetsGoDigital. According to the publication, Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications filed this patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Office) at the end of 2019. However, it got approved and published only on October 9.

According to the documents of this patent, OPPO has patented four different smartphone designs with minor differences in their display curves. But only one of them is showcased in color renders. Hence, LetsGoDigital says that it could be the potential design if the company ever plans to release a phone with such a design.

That said, as per this design if this smartphone ever comes into life, the display on it may have 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio like the Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 II by Sony. Also, since the sides will be engulfed by the screen, the volume buttons will be situated at the back near the end of the display curvature on either side.

Further, the rear panel of the handset will sport a vertically aligned triple camera setup at the top left corner. Whereas, the top side of the phone will house the power key as well as a microphone and the bottom side will include a speaker, USB Type-C port, and a SIM card slot. Interestingly, it may also feature an under-screen camera.

Having said that, we don’t think OPPO will ever launch a super curved display phone with this design since the cameras and the overall design look outdated. That doesn’t mean they will never release such a handset; they may do but perhaps with a slightly different design.

So, the Chinese tech giant might be trying to distance itself from being a mere clone. According to a LetsGoDigital report, the Oppo smartwatch in the patent features a rounded display built on a rectangular housing. On the bottom, numerous sensors can be observed, which are likely to monitor heart rate and more. The sides feature a button and a digital crown that are necessary for basic controls. Unfortunately, it is still unknown if the company is planning on actually launching such a wearable gadget or whether it is just covering all bases.

Three variations of the smartwatch were patented, with the first featuring a rounded 3D curved display on a rectangular housing while others sported a more square shaped flat display. This might be for a more affordable variant. The last one was a fully rounded 3D curved display but built upon a circular housing, with a unique looking aesthetic that would probably be paired with kinds types of straps.

In the patent, the Chinese tech giant has also included 8 product sketches alongside 7 colored renders as well. Looking at the patent, the device in question features a punch hole display on the front with a single selfie shooter cutout. Furthermore, the display features narrow bezels along with curved edges. On the rear, a quad camera setup is present on a circular module.

Arriving at the smartphone’s most unique aspect, the display is surrounded by what seems to be a special material. The material could be carbon fiber with a honeycomb structure, which is highlighted in a bright green/blue color scheme. This adds to the appeal to the device while also giving it a tough or armored look. Speakers can also be found both on the top and bottom of the smartphone, which seamlessly blends into the device’s body and the honeycomb designed area.

At the moment, the name of the device is unknown. However, the report from LetsGoDigital, does state that the smartphone could be the successor of the flagship Oppo Ace 2. Unfortunately, that is just speculation and we will have to wait and see if the company actually does release a device with such a design, or whether they were just covering all bases.

Foldable smartphones have been a new trend in the industry for over a year now and companies have made their respective offerings stand out quite a bit. Samsung had made a device with an inward folding display, while Huawei made one with an outward folding screen. Similarly, the Moto Razr 2019 followed a clamshell design and now, Oppo might be looking to launch a device that bends outward horizontally.

According to a LetsGoDigital report, the Chinese tech giant recently had a patent for a foldable smartphone approved by the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office). In the patent, an unique design is adopted by the bendable handset. Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr, the display bends outward, rather than the clamshell inward bending design the other two devices feature.

Looking at the detailed images in the patent, Oppo designed the smartphone to be compact and portable. While the display would be large when unfolded, being bent outward would still have the entire display being present outside, but make it easier to carry around, and also eliminates the need for a smartphone cover. This design would also allow the primary camera sensor to be used as a selfie shooter as well.

Notably, the Oppo patented device features an angle detection module, which calculates the angle between two housing. One housing is for the magnet while the other is for the Hall sensor. These determine how the device is being used, and by its extension, adjust the UI according to the display’s orientation. The folding mechanism is supported by a cylindrical hinge. Unfortunately, it is unknown if Oppo will actually develop such a device or whether this just the company’s attempt to cover all bases. So stay tuned.

Back in 2019, handsets with a foldable display led to a new race of innovation within the market. Since then, various OEMs have launched their offerings, with recent ones trying to make such devices less bulky and more practical. Now, a recent Oppo patent, spotted by LetsGoDigital, showcases a compact smartphone with a slider mechanism that expands its display.

The Chinese tech giant had filed a design patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). The patent consisted of 28 product images and a short description as well. In the images, a futuristic and an extremely compact handset can be observed, which can have its display expanded. When in its compact form factor, the gadget assumes a square like form factor, which would make it easier to carry around or keep in one’s pockets.

But its most interesting aspect is definitely its expandable display, which extends from the notch at the top. From the rear, one can also see the triple camera module also rising along with it. While similar smartphones with the expandable display have been seen before, the Oppo patented device has its display extends quite a bit further.

Unfortunately, the finer details regarding this device are currently unknown. Furthermore, it is also unclear whether Oppo will actually develop and launch such a device, or whether the company is just covering all bases. A few days ago, we saw a design patent filed by Vivo for a slider smartphone. Now, today, we are subjected to a patent for a smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard filed by its sister company Oppo. The design gives us the vibe of LG’s Dual-Screen cases available for G8X, V50, and V60.

It has been a long time since we saw a physical keyboard on a smartphone. The last two such devices were BlackBerry Key 2 and Key 2 LE. If this patent comes into fruition, then we may finally get a modern phone with a keyboard from the house of Oppo.

Anyway, the design seems to be of a QWERTY keyboard case similar to LG Dual-Screen than a permanently attached hinge. If you recall, the last such accessory was available for the Galaxy Note 5, however, it was to be placed on the display and not to be used as a case.

Further, the patent design suggests the keys to be rather capacitive than tactile. Also, the layout seems to be congested than wider. Additionally, the smartphone used for reference has bezels all around with a dew-drop notch.

All of the above-mentioned characteristics indicate the patent to be a rough unfinished design, which might never see the light of the day. However, there is a possibility that Oppo could be working on something with advanced design matching the current trend.

OPPO made a foray into the smartwatch market recently with the launch of the OPPO Watch.  The OPPO Watch turned out to be very popular with fans and could give the company the needed opening to break into the smart wearable market. Perhaps, as a way of consolidating the gains made wit the Oppo Watch, the company has reportedly filed a new patent application in China for a wearable device. The patent is specifically for a new smart band.

The patent application detailed the smart band to feature a small screen that can display time, and can also display notifications from mobile phones, steps counter, etc. The contacts on the bottom indicate that the wearable device is designed for magnetic charging and is equipped with a heart rate sensor. Like most smart bands on the market, it will also double as a fitness tracker.

The design also reveals a metal ring which surrounds the outside of the pebble-shaped device. Although it makes it look unique, we can’t tell why the company chose to include such a design. There is a groove on one side of the metal ring, which may be a pressure-sensitive button, to wake up the device. There are also opening on either side of the smart band which is likely where the straps will fit.

The patent didn’t reveal any detail as regards the internal hardware and functions of the device. We can’t even tell if OPPO will mass-product the design any time soon but we’ll be on the lookout for more details.

In recent years, notches in a smartphone have become a thing of the past. Nowadays, it is much more common for most smartphones in any category, ranging from budget to premium flagship, to arrive with bezels, chins, and notches, which are a lot less apparent than what was previously the norm. However, this, in turn, has also led to the development of supplementing technologies like mechanised pop up cameras and in display fingerprint readers. Now, Oppo is seemingly taking the new developments to another level with 6 next designs of sliding smartphones.

In the patent, multiple images can be found that detail the schematics of 6 different smartphones with a unique sliding mechanism. The design isn’t completely out of this world and new, and seems more like an extension of what we originally saw with the Oppo Find X. In other words, unlike the prominent curve on the top portion of the smartphones, various different patterns are found in place of it.

Examples of this include a zigzag pattern, a triangular pattern, a semi circle curve, a wavy structure and even a slanted straight line that highlights the portion that slides out. What unique functions these distinct designs hold are unknown and maybe more aesthetical in nature than in function. Meaning, it could possibly just be a variation of the Find X and not serve any purpose in and of themselves.

Notably, the patented designs each sport a dual camera setup with a third cutout for the LED flash. On the front, an additional four more cutouts, which is likely for crucial sensors and another dual camera setup for selfies. One particular smartphone that stood out in the Oppo patent revealed a very interesting design. Its pop up mechanism for the dual camera module for both the front and rear slid out from the side rather than the upper regions.

Apart from this, the only other discernable elements are the USB Type C charging port flanked by two speaker grills on the bottom of the device. Unfortunately, finer details and more information regarding these patents are currently unknown. The smartphones in the Oppo patent might just be an attempt to cover every base by the company rather than being actually seeing official development, meaning they might not ever be launched.

A new patent has surfaced from Oppo that details of a smartphone with a unique camera module. The patent details a device with a circular camera module on the rear which, although resembles the OnePlus 7T, is unique due to the number of sensors being a total of seven.

The Oppo smartphone in question is said to be from the Reno family series, according to the source. The design patent was filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and describes a smartphone with 7 image sensors on the rear. In the patent, two distinct models have been detailed with each carrying a different number of cameras on the rear.

Notably, the design also bears a certain resemblance to the Nokia 9 PureView which had its penta rear cameras arranged in a sort of similar manner. Although the patent reveals 7 circular cutouts for the cameras, it is also likely that one of them is for a dedicated microphone that was the case with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Furthermore, the image sensor in the middle is likely to be the primary sensor, owing to its relatively larger size in comparison to the ones around it.

Interestingly, the circular camera module is also sightly raised in the form of a bump from the rear panel of the Oppo Reno smartphone. This has not been observed in other Reno models, which feature a smooth and seamless rear panel with cameras being housed on the inside. Since it arrives with 7 image sensors, it is likely that the smartphone in the patents describes a next gen flagship model.

Unfortunately, finer details and the actual name of the Oppo device is still at large. But, the patent does leave a lot to expectations regarding upcoming Oppo launches. The Oppo Find X2 is also just around the corner, while another Oppo handset with a moon shaped rear camera was also reported on recently. Earlier today (17th January 2020), Oppo applied for a patent with the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China. The distinct nature of this patent is its unique smartphone design, which showcases a Moon Wheel shaped rear camera module.

According to the design renders that accompany the patent, it is clear that the aesthetics look a lot like the Lunar cycles of the Moon. The rear cameras are arranged in crescent shape just under a sphere that is translucent in nature. It is currently unknown if this area holds any special sensor or camera. From left to right, an LED flash is followed by a large image sensor and two smaller lenses right beside it in a curved design.

In the patent, graphical design images are also present which shows the technical parameters of the device. Unfortunately, it still creates more questions than answers regarding the unique smartphone. Earlier this month, OnePlus unveiled a disappearing rear camera module on a concept smartphone at CES 2020; so, this could be Oppo’s version of the same technology as another image depicts the rear panel with the sphere but not the cameras.

Furthermore, the Oppo smartphone may also arrive with a special back cover that brings the same functionality. The patent also reveals a key piece of information regarding the translucent area, which seems to be surrounded by a circle of LED lights. It is speculated to be a new form of notification lights that fill the entire sphere or could perhaps even be used to display unique animations and more.

The upcoming smartphone could be Oppo’s Find X2 smartphone which is expected to arrive soon, but that is just an educated guess. Unfortunately, the company has yet to confirm this report or publicly announce the existence of this unique handset.

We are almost forgetting about the OPPO Find series and that is because the company is yet to release a new model in recent times. The company may be working on a new spectacular design that would feature on the Find series. A newly published OPPO patent has been spotted by LetsGoDigital and it is of a phone with a four-sided curved edge design.

The renders as visualized by LetsGoDigital reveals a display design with a beautiful 3D effect as a result of the 4-sided curvature. The phone design also includes an in-display light sensor. The concept renders look unbelievable but then, we recall the Mi Mix 4 has something almost similar. The design ensures it adopts a notch-less, bezel-less outlook. The device is said to come with a waterfall screen just like the Vivo NEX 3. Since there is no bezel at the top for the selfie camera, the device may likely use an under-display selfie camera.

According to OPPO, the recently unveiled Find X flagship phone’s massive display offers a screen-to-body ratio of 93.8 percent. The handset is equipped with advanced features like 3D facial scanning and pop-up camera setup. The recent patent filings of the company suggest that it plans to launch new smartphones with innovative design and features in the near future. For instance, it had recently applied multiple patents for foldable smartphones. Also, the Chinese manufacturer has recently received patent approval for a new selfie-centric smartphone at World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO).

As it can be seen below, the new patent reveals that the smartphone features a full screen design. The front camera is absent, and the screen is surrounded with ultra-slim bezels. This suggests that the smartphone will be offering an impressive screen-to-body ratio. The backside of the handset is interesting as it features a dual camera setup as well as a secondary touchscreen display. This may not feature a fingerprint scanner, or it could be embedded under the main display.

Scenes that are captured by the camera are visible on the second screen. The additional display will give access to some camera features such as night mode, continuous video recording, self-timer apart from regular photo and video shooting.

The main display can show the same content on the front. There is an icon which allow users to conveniently switch to the second display. OPPO may either use an LCD or an OLED screen on the phone. There is a possibility that the company may opt for a flexible panel so that the edges can neatly curve into the edge of the phone.

The second display is placed on the upper half of the rear panel in such a way that the user can hold the smartphone comfortably without touching the screen. The above image shows the OPPO has considered different positions for the dual rear cameras. The patent filing reveals that it is a dust-resistant and waterproof smartphone. OPPO had filed this patent in September last year and it was published by WIPO on July 12.

There is no confirmation on whether OPPO will be soon launching a smartphone with such a design. The above patent seems to be a very suitable design for OPPO’s selfie expert series of smartphones.

Many smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung and Huawei are attempting to make a smartphone with foldable display. And now, we have come across another Chinese smartphone maker trying something similar.

Oppo has filed a patent in China for a smartphone design that has a bendable display. About 25 percent to 35 percent of the display from the top appears to be foldable. The images suggest that the foldable part of the screen can be flipped forward as well as backwards.

It seems that the display sits on top of a fixed chassis in which the break is connected through hinges, allowing the display to make a ‘U’ bend. At the top of the display, there is a camera module, which can be used as a front-facing as well as rear-facing snapper by bending the display forward and backward.

However, using a single camera module as a front and rear camera is not a new concept. But, the way it is being implemented is different. In 2013, Oppo N1 was launched with featured a rotating camera module that can spin 206 degrees, allowing users to use it on the back and front of the phone. Following that, Gionee had also launched a smartphone with a rotating camera module — Gionee Elife E7 Mini.

Recently, ZTE launched Axon M — a folding smartphone with two full-sized displays. When folded, one screen lights up for regular usage and when it is flat, it goes into “Extended Mode” which utilizes both displays.

The patent filing from Oppo comes at a time when manufacturers are soon expected to launch devices with foldable or flexible display. Samsung is rumored to introduce a smartphone with foldable display as soon as next year. Recently, a report emerged claiming that Apple is partnering with LG Display for a foldable iPhone for the year 2020. Even Elephone is rumored to release a smartphone with flexible AMOLED.

While Oppo has filed for a patent of this foldable smartphone design, it does not mean that we would see such smartphone as many ideas that gets patented never materializes.
