Since the webpage states that the “Future LG G7” supports Quick Charge 4.0, some tech sites are speculating that the smartphone may feature Snapdragon 835.

The Snapdragon 835 mobile platform is the first 10nm chipset from Qualcomm. When the U.S. based chip maker had announced the chipset November 2016, it only carried support Quick Charge 4.0. However, in June 2017, Qualcomm had introduced Quick Charge 4+ for Snapdragon 835. The chipset also supports Quick Charge 3.0.

The newly unveiled Snapdragon 845 which is the second-generation 10nm chipset from Qualcomm that carries support for Quick Charge 4.0 as well as Quick Charge 4+. Since the “Future LG G7” listing states that it only carries support for Quick Charge 4.0 and not 4+, it is being speculated that the Snapdragon 835 chipset will be powering it. However, there are many Snapdragon 835 chipset driven smartphones in the market that include Quick Charge 3.0.

Last year also, Samsung had received the starting stock of the Snapdragon 835 for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ phones, because of which other smartphone OEMs could not release SD835 powered phones before the Galaxy S8 duo arrived in the market. Hence, the LG G6 that was launched before the Galaxy S8 and S8+ came with Snapdragon 821. The other reason why LG included Snapdragon 821 inside the LG G6 is that the company had not used the SD821 in any of its smartphones.

The initial stocks of the Snapdragon 845 have been acquired by Samsung for powering its Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones. Hence, it is speculated that the Snapdragon 835 powered LG G7 may get unveiled may get unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 to take on the Galaxy S9 duo.

The Snapdragon 821 chipset powered LG G6 as well as the LG V30 that is driven by Snapdragon 835 carry support Quick Charge 3.0. This shows that the smartphones OEMs can choose the desired Quick Charge version on any of the supported chipset by Qualcomm.

A South Korean publication had reported yesterday that the LG G7 would be debuting in March followed by a market release in April. Since the report claims that the LG G7 will be arriving in the market after the Galaxy S9 duo, it is likely that the Snapdragon 845 chipset will be powering it. As far as the listing of the “Future LG G7” with Quick Charge 4.0 support on the official site is concerned, it may so happen that the smartphone may include support for QC 4.0 and not 4+ as the chipset supports both the fast charging technologies.

Qualcomm had announced Quick Charge 4.0 feature when it introduced the Snapdragon 835 chipset in November last year. It has been only six months since its launch and Qualcomm has now its improved version called Quick Charge 4+.

Compared to its predecessor, the Quick Charge 4 offers 20 percent faster charging speed and is 30 percent more efficient. Even though a couple of Snapdragon 835 smartphones have released this year such as Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Xiaomi Mi 6 and HTC U11, none of them carry support for Quick Charge 4.0. The newly launched ZTE Nubia Z17 is the first smartphone to feature Quick Charge 4+.

The following image explains that Quick Charge 4+ is up to 3 degrees cooler, up to 15 percent faster and up to 30 percent more efficient than its previous version.

Read More: Snapdragon 845 Will Feature ARM’s New Cortex-A75 and A55 Cores

The Quick Charge 4+ has all the features that is available on QC 4.0. However, it is available with three additional improvements such as:

Dual Charge: This feature is already present in predecessor versions of Quick Charge. However, it has become more powerful in QC 4+ as it is equipped with a second power management IC. The Dual Charge feature divides the charge current which makes it possible for lower thermal dissipation and decreases the charging time.

Intelligent Thermal Balancing: This feature drives the current through the coolest path of dual charging pathways. This will help in preventing potential hot spot. This also enables optimized power delivery.

Advanced Safety Features: Quick Charge 4 has inbuilt safety protocols and in QC 4+, Qualcomm has added a feature that keeps a track of temperature levels of the case and connector at the same time. This will prevent problems like overheating and damage to the USB-C port.

Since Nubia Z17 has arrived with QC 4+, it is likely that we may soon see more flagship phones with new quick charging standard from Qualcomm. Chargers, USB hubs, power banks enabled with Quick Charge 4+ will be backward compatible with Quick Charge 3.0 and 2.0.

This is perhaps due to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 explosion saga.

The Galaxy S8 only featured support for a 15W QC 2.0 fast charge, while the Mi 6 and Xperia XZ Premium come with support for 18W QC 3.0 fast charge support. That is about to change as Nubia has now teased that its upcoming flagship, the Z17 would feature the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0. The Nubia Z17 is already confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 835 processor which makes it just the right candidate to feature support for QC 4.0. Nubia is reported to have revealed this via a Weibo post which, unfortunately, we could not locate. The post was accompanied by a poster which shows that the device would be launched on June 1, 2016.

As for the features, the QC 4.0 is not just faster, it’s designed to be more efficient and run cooler than prior generations. When compared to Quick Charge 3.0, Quick Charge 4 is up-to 20 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficient, while charging up to 5° C cooler. The fast charge is touted as capable of delivering up to 50% of charge in just 5 minutes.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser image.

The image is of a lightning bolt and has the text “faster than ever” below it. Its evident from the image that what Meizu plans to announce is related to charging. But we got a little info from an industry source to confirm.

According to the source, Meizu is planning to announce mCharge 4.0. mCharge is Meizu’s trademark name for its fast charging technology and it will be unveiling the 4th generation of the technology. mCharge 4.0 is said to use 9V4A, offering up to 36W of power.

Comparing that to Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0, Meizu’s mCharge supplies more power. Quick Charge 4.0 on the other hand still uses 9V2A (18W) but is 20% more efficient than QC 3.0 due to its use of Dual Charge technology. It is also better as the charging temperature is lower by 5°c and has support for USB Power Delivery.

Qualcomm has announced the much anticipated Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset which will start hitting flagships from early 2017. This new chip will succeed the highly popular Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 821 chips that power the top-end phones currently in the market. While the company hasn’t revealed an exact time frame for first Snapdragon 835 powered smartphones to hit the market, we can probably expect it sometime around MWC 2017 in February.

Like tradition, this is just the basic announcement of the Snapdragon 835 chip as the company is yet to reveal intricate details about it. But what Qualcomm did reveal is that the new chipset will be manufactured by Samsung on a 10nm FinFET process. Yes, finally, we are entering the stage where we meet 10nm chipset, which means SD835 will be much more efficient than existing processors in the market.

How much improvement you ask?

Qualcomm reveals that the Snapdragon 835 will deliver up to 27 percent higher performance at the same time using 40 percent less power than the Snapdragon 821 chip based on the 14nm process.

Another highlight of the new chip is the support for Quick Charge 4.0. The new fast charging tech will ensure that your phone will be charged quicker and more efficiently. The company reveals that a five-minute charge using Quick Charge 4.0 will be enough to provide up to 5 hours of battery life. Similarly, the tech can charge the phone’s battery up to 50 percent in just 5 minutes, which is amazing.

READ MORE: Qualcomm Earned $6.2B in Revenue and Shipped 211 Million Chips Last Quarter

As compared to the previous generation QC 3.0, the Quick Charge 4.0 will be 20 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient. The tech also takes care of thermal management, thanks to its third generation INOV (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) wherein both the voltage and current will be monitored during the charging process to ensure that the temperature remains below a standard level and prevent overcharging. Further, the new charging standard will also be compliant with USB Power Delivery standard and USB Type-C specification.

However, like all tech products, soon, the Snapdragon 821 that we say is so powerful, will be replaced by an even powerful Snapdragon 830 chipset and that should most likely happen early 2017.

Now, more details about the Snapdragon 830 chip and its Quick Charging 4.0 technology has just been revealed via a new report. The new chip is said to come with an ever faster Quick Charging technology, the fourth generation version. The Quick Charge 4.0 is said to charge smartphones at an even faster pace because it comes with 28W charging. Fudzilla states that the chip will support 5V/4.7A~5.6A, 9V/4A configurations, which if true, will make charging super fast. Further, thanks to the Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), the technology should be able to charge large batteries, which is becoming a trend among flagships, even faster.

RELATED: Snapdragon 830 Chip Spotted On Zauba Website

The first Snapdragon 820 smartphone, the Le Max Pro (although it wasn’t commercially available) was released as early as January this year. So, we could meet the first Snapdragon 830 chip as soon as January 2017. However, there was a good reason for Qualcomm to speed up the release of the 820, after the big debacle with the overheating Snapdragon 810.

This year, things are different and much more positive for the chipmaker, especially with Snapdragon 821 still fresh, powering new flagships. So, Qualcomm could release the Snapdragon 830 a bit later into 2017, rather than giving it a very early release. Well, we’ll know for sure in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more details.
