For most of the important smartphones, the software support by companies ends in about two years, but it is not so with Xiaomi phones. The Chinese giant is providing a very long software support for its phones, even though the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo is yet to make its debut on the recent flagships of the company. But in the meantime, the first Xiaomi Redmi Note from 2014 and the Redmi 1s have been updated to MIUI 9.

Both these devices were released about 4 years ago, but they have been updated to the latest version of the Mi user interface in 2018. The version of MIUI arrived on Xiaomi Redmi Note and Xiaomi Redmi 1s is the 9.2.2.0, but even though it is the latest version of the user interface, it is still based on Android 4.4 KitKat and not on Android Nougat like the other recent phones updated. Further, the security patch remains very old: it is the one from October 2016. Anyways, this update is still a great thing and it brings the important features of the new MIUI 9 on these two old phones.

UNBOXING

The phone ships in a rather unusual for Xiaomi red box. Inside of it, you can find all the usual stuff, no extras included.

DESIGN and DISPLAY

As far as design goes, the Redmi Note 5a is kind of plain looking and it is very similar to the Redmi 4a. The phone is made entirely of plastic and while it does not look or feel premium, the build quality is excellent.

The 5.5” display sports only 72op resolution but it is still quite sharp for everyday use.

We do have an IR blaster, a notification LED light and 5MP selfie shooter but the buttons are not backlit.

There is no fingerprint scanner on this phone whereas the Prime model has this feature.

As for the camera, we have a 13MP shooter with a single LED flash.

The sound quality via the headset jack is pretty good and the loudspeaker is not bad at all for the price of the phone.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

The hardware configuration is not really impressive on the Redmi Note 5a but this is what you have to expect at this price point.

The phone has a Snapdragon 425 chip, just 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. What is awesome, is that there is a dedicated microSD card slot along with a dual-SIM card tray. I think this should become a standard feature on each phone.

The gaming performance is pretty good overall. However, you should expect some skipped frames in some of the 3D games if you play them on the highest graphics settings.

BENCHMARKS

USER INTERFACE

My Redmi Note 5a shipped with the original Chinese ROM, meaning that I had to install Google Services myself but it takes just a minute to do that. MIUI 8.5 is based on Android 7.1 and if you used any Xiaomi phone before, you will feel right at home as nothing has really changed much. We have the same looks, features, customization options and little tweaks to make the phone look your own.

I’ve installed a lot of apps as usual and I found the phone to be snappy and responsive all the time and that’s the most important thing on any phone.

IMAGE QUALITY

The image quality is quite good considering the fact this is a $120 phone. However, even at this price point, I would love to see more detail and sharpness in the pictures.

The low-light camera performance is quite good but again, this is a budget phone camera after all.

The selfies look nice and clear, I don’t have many complaints here.

The 1080p video is above average as the footage could look sharper but that is the case with most of the phones in this price range.

The 1080p selfie video looks great. The sound recording quality could have been decent but there is a lot of background noise, which is caused by a poor implementation of noise reduction or other stuff.

CONNECTIVITY

As far as connectivity goes, I have no complaints.  Everything, including Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS works fine. Also, the call quality and signal reception are decent.

BATTERY LIFE

A 3080mAh battery performs very well, like on most of the Xiaomi phones. Depending on how you use the phone, you should expect to achieve 8 or 9 hours of screen-on time. Well, these were my results.

The phone supports Qualcomm® Quick Charge 2.0 technology but it ships just with a regular charger. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the device.

CONCLUSIONS

The Redmi Note 5a is another budget phone made Xiaomi. Again, it offers quite a lot of value for the price but honestly, I don’t see any significant upgrades over the last generation models.

I would love to see a slightly better camera and a fingerprint scanner even at this price point but overall,  I still think that the Xiaomi Note Redmi 5a is a solid phone for the price but you can also check out the older Xiaomi phones, as they are very similar to this one.

The past few weeks have been eventful for Xiaomi fans given that we have seen a lot of leaks, rumors and well as teasers directly from the company. We are expecting to see atleast two product launches at the company’s Grand Finale Event on November 24. All this while, we expected the new Xiaomi smartphone with fingerprint sensor to be called as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro. However, the company has officially revealed via a new teaser that the phone is going to be called as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.

Looks like the company is considering the fingerprint sensor upgrade and all metal build to be worthy enough for a new generation version. So, despite the Redmi Note 2 being launched just a few months back, we will see a new version day after tomorrow.

As a result, coming Tuesday, we will meet the Redmi Note 3 as well as the recently teased Xiaomi Mi Tab 2. No wonder, the company is calling it the Grand Finale event as both the devices are going to be new generation versions.

Since the past one week, not a day goes by without a leak about the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi. Some say it is the Xiaomi Mi4S that’s going to be announced, while others claim its the Redmi Note 2! We think the company may announce both the device at the January 15 event.

Today, we have some leaked images of the upcoming flagship with some new specifications. This makes things a lot more confusing but here’s what we’ve got. The leaked images and specifications say this is the new Xiaomi Mi4S. It looks a lot like the images which were leaked earlier, only a little smaller which hints a 5.2-inch display rather than a 5.7-inch screen. Like earlier images, the placement of the sensors and the front camera have been changed and the bezels are a bit thinner, but other than that, the Mi4S seems to have a similar design as the Mi4. Also, the three traditional capacitive keys are seen below the screen on this device.

As for the tech specs, the phone is reportedly running on a Snapdragon 801 processor, the same one that’s currently inside the Xiaomi Mi4 clocked at 2.5GHz.  The overall body frame is said to be made of aluminum alloy and is much thinner than the existing flagship. In the AnTuTu benchmark test results, the phone secured a score of over 46866 points, which is almost 4000 points higher than the average score of Mi4 (42000). This ranks it higher than other powerful flagships like the OnePlus One, Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Alpha. Only the Nexus 6 and Meizu MX4 are have scored above 46000 points.

The company will finally unravel the mystery behind its new flagship on January 15, which is just two days away.

Xiaomi Redmi Note is highly popular among budget phablet lovers and apparently the second generation model, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has been leaked online. While the picture does not reveal the full body of the device, but it does show the back cover, which is a bit different than current Redmi Note model.

The camera sensor and the LED flash are located on the top left corner of the new device instead at the top center region. Moreover, the slightly large opening on top could indicate a dual LED flash instead of the single LED flash found on the current Redmi Note. the ‘Mi’ branding remains at the bottom region of the rear panel. Interestingly, we don’t see a speaker grill on the leaked panel.

As you can see, there are some measurements given on the picture too, however, it doesn’t look like they are right. The length and width are okay at 159mm and 82mm respectively, but the thickness as given on the picture — 25mm is too big. The current generation model has a width of around 9.5mm, so it’s better we ignore the dimensions given by the source for now.

The same source also revealed the possible specs of the device. So, the new Redmi Note 2 is expected to come with the same 5.5-inch display as the original model but with a bumped up resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. An eight-core 64-bit processor will power the device (probably Snapdragon 615 or Mediatek 6752) along with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. At the back, there will be a 13MP camera sensor while on the front, it will have a 5MP shooter. The battery is said to be above 3,000 mAh. The Redmi Note 2 will run on Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top.

The source reveals that the phone will be released between January 21 to January 28 2015.

While these specs are slightly better than the current Redmi Note, they might just be enough to upgrade the device yet maintain the same price tag. The current generation model came with a 5.5-inch 720p display, an eight-core processor but not 64-bit and just 8GB internal storage. These are the specs that have been bumped up in the new generation Redmi Note 2. The camera and the battery capacity which were already good on the Note have been kept the same. So, if the leaked specs does turn out to be true, we may have a winner here.

With these leaked specs, the Redmi Note 2 could prove a worthy competitor to the Meizu M1 Note (Blue Charm). Both the devices are aimed at the budget customers looking for the best experience and both have enough hardware to keep their customers excited. So, it would be interesting to see how both perform in the market at a similar price tag.

Xiaomi has launched the new version of the 4G-LTE variant of its 5.5-inch phablet, the Redmi Note, in China. Its price has been set at CNY 999 and that is about $162 and in Indian currency Rs. 9,900.

The phone is merely offered in an exceedingly single-SIM configuration, not like the 3G version, that supports 2 SIM card slots. The phone runs automaton four.4.2 kitKat with MIUI v.5.0. It options an analogous five.5-inch (720×1280 pixels) IPS-LCD show a bit like the present Redmi Note.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G options a Qualcomm MSM8928 flower four hundred with a quad-core 1.6G Hz computer hardware and 2GB of RAM, rather than the 1.7G Hz octa-core MediaTek MTK6592 SoC of the 3G-only variant. Internal storage 8GB and its secured by a microSD card slot that supports  up to 64GB cards.

At the rear of the Redmi Note 4G sits a 13MP camera with Associate in Nursing f/2.2 aperture and diode flash, stillas a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. Below the rear cowl lies a three, 200mAh battery and therefore the screen remains a similar five.5″ IPS of 720p resolution. Dimensions are unchanged, too, at 154 x 78.7 x 9.5mm.

The connectivity of the device includes 4G LTE -TDD which support (1900/ 2300 / 2600MHz),  WiFi, micro USB, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The device has dimensions of 154 x 78.7 x 9.5mm and is packed with 3100 mAh battery on the back.

Last month, beside the Xiaomi Mi 3 flagship launch in Republic of India, the Chinese smartphone and tab manufacturer had launched the Redmi Note and Redmi 1S in Republic of India, priced at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 6,999 severally.

As for handiness, each smartphones by Xiaomi were aforementioned to be ‘coming soon’ to the Indian market, with the Redmi 1S regular for associate early August arrival, and Redmi Note for a late August entry into the Indian market.

There have been rumours of Xiaomi’s entry to the Indian market going around for months, hinted at mostly by Hugo Barra, ex-Android VP who joined Xiaomi from Google last year. It seems these rumours are about to become reality with a report revealing plans to join up with Flipkart to launch smartphones in India. This is the way Motorola went about things too but things are slightly different here. When Moto and Flipkart teamed up, Flipkart imported the devices on its own, but the Xiaomi report states that Xiaomi will be importing the devices and Flipkart will be retailing them. It seems there are no plans as yet for a Xiaomi retail chain in India.

There are two smartphones to be released, between mid-July and early August, with the smart money being on the Redmi and the Mi3. The low-budget Redmi has a 4.7 inch 702p IPS display, a quad-core 1.5 GHz Mediatek 6589 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, MicroSD card slot and 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front shooter.

The Mi3 has two variants, but the one most likely to be available for the Indian market contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and 2MP front shooter with a 3050mAh battery.

As for the prices it is reported that the Redmi could be priced at around RS8000 ($133USD) and the Mi3 around RS15000 ($250USD), there are also to be accessories and extras released but there are no solid reports as yet as to what these might be.

The Note version is larger than the Redmi, has twice the RAM (2GB) and double the onboard storage (8GB). The Note has an octa-core Mediatek MT6592 1.7GHz processor, a 5.5 inch display 1280 x 720 resolution, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front shooter and dual SIM capacity. It is is powered by Android 4.4.2 but has Xiaomi’s MIUI feature over the top. All this in sleek and shiny white plastic will be available in Honk Kong on June 27^th for HKD $1239, in Singapore availability is from July 8^th and costing S$199 and then in Malaysia from July 22^nd for RM509. These prices amount to approximately USD$157.

Also, Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi 1S on July 8^th in Malaysia for RM409. This is the sequel to the Redmi, having similar specs but 8GB or onboard storage and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Xiaomi will also launch the sequel of the Redmi, the Redmi 1S, on July 8 for RM409 ($126) in Malaysia. The phone has similar specs to the Redmi, including a 4.7-inch display with a 1,280×720-pixel resolution, but runs off a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and has 8GB of onboard storage. It will be interesting to see how well these quality affordable devices fare overseas.

With those target, Xiaomi is trying to get their revenue for hundren billion yuan, and it’s mean the Xiaomi will got double revenue this year  and next will continue to maintain the momentum.

“This year there is the opportunity to do 80 billion, I think 70 billion is quite sure. Using the same mode of growth, it should be visible over 100 billion next year.” Lei Jun said so on the IT Leadership Summit in China, on March 30th.

Xiaomi announced today it upped this year’s sales projection to 60 million smartphones from the previous 40 million. It’s already sold 11 million in the first quarter of this year.

Four years ago, Xiaomi is becoming the entrepreneurial company, before the launch of its first mobile phone on late 2011, and now Xiaomi has sucessfully sales of 18.7 million units of its mobile phone and reached 31.6 billion yuan. Do the comparison, the world’s second-largest smartphone maker Apple iPhone 2013 global sales of 153.5 million, these objectives can be achieved that Xiaomi is becoming the top fifth biggest smartphone vendor for global market.

Xiaomi phone is primarily cooperate to doing direct sales and network marketing with China Telecom, China Unicom and other mobile operators. Xiaomi recently began to experiment with different social platforms to expand its sales channels, such as Sina Weibo, Tencent QQ and Alibaba’s Lynx.

The report also said that Samsung and Apple occupies a leading position in China’s smart phone market, but Xiaomi has undoubtedly become the dark horse of Chinese mobile phone market, the capital market is also giving this manufacturers becoming the valuable company.

In August last year, Xiaomi has reached $ 10 billion, it’s beat the BlackBerry smartphone in global market.

Xiaomi has open the pre-order of RedMi Note, that open from 17:00 untill 22:00 through QQ Space, and Xiaomi got more 15 millions total pre-order, and the first round of sale is open on March 26th at 12:00.
