While Samsung has yet to officially confirm a release date, rumors suggest the Galaxy A55 5G could launch in Europe as early as next week. Adding fuel to those rumors, a Russian YouTuber has posted a review video of the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G, offering a detailed look at the unreleased device.

You can watch the video (in Russian) below, but we will summarize the things from the video in this article.

Samsung Galaxy A55 specifications

The Galaxy A55 5G features a familiar Samsung design with a glossy glass back panel. The front houses a 6.64-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a punch-hole for the front-facing camera.

The display is also said to include Vision Booster and HDR 10+ support. Additionally, the phone has Samsung’s Key Island design which is a protrusion on the right edge housing power and volume rocker buttons.

Temperature readings during sustained performance tests appeared stable. And the reviewer notes that the Xclipse 530 GPU shows substantial improvement over the previous generation’s Mali-G68.

The Galaxy A55 5G features a 32MP front camera and a rear triple-lens setup (50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro). The phone will likely ship with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, with configurations including up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A 5000mAh battery with 25W charging, face unlock, and an in-display fingerprint scanner round out the core specifications.

Samsung has not yet made an official announcement regarding the Galaxy A55 5G’s release. This review video provides a comprehensive look at the device’s potential features but should be taken with some caution pending formal confirmation from Samsung.

Samsung’s tests on an MR MUF process have shown promising results

MUF technology involves injecting a material between semiconductors after drilling numerous tiny holes in the semiconductor layers. This process aims to securely connect multiple vertically stacked semiconductors. Samsung’s recent tests on an MR MUF process for 3D stacked memory have shown enhanced throughput compared to conventional methods like thermal pressed non-conductive film (TC NCF). However, there are considerations regarding its impact on physical characteristics.

While Samsung found MUF unsuitable for HBM technology due to specific requirements, it sees potential applications in 3DS registered dual in-line memory modules (RDIMMs), primarily used in server environments. The decision aligns with Samsung’s commitment to advancing server DRAM memory technologies to meet evolving industry demands.

MUF’s success in HBM production by SK Hynix has garnered attention in the semiconductor industry. This epoxy resin molding compound is believed to offer advantages such as preventing wafer warpage and enhancing overall performance. Samsung’s pursuit of developing its own MUF compound in collaboration with Samsung SDI indicates a strategic move to establish proprietary solutions tailored to its requirements.

The potential adoption of MUF technology by Samsung holds significance for the semiconductor market. As the world’s leading storage semiconductor company, Samsung’s endorsement of MUF could catalyze its widespread acceptance and adoption as a mainstream technology. This development has the potential to reshape the semiconductor material market landscape, driving significant transformations in the industry.

Honor Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design, MagicBook Pro 16 pre-orders reportedly begin in China

In February, Honor released the first teaser of the Magic 6 RSR, hinting that it would be announced in March in China. Now, a new Weibo post by a Chinese leaker reveals that the company has already started receiving pre-orders for the Magic 6 RSR as well as two other products.

Honor reportedly begins pre-orders for three new products

According to a Chinese tech blogger, Honor has started receiving pre-orders for three new devices, such as the Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design, the Magic 6 Ultimate, and the MagicBook Pro 16. The tipster did not say anything about the specifications of the Magic 6 models but revealed that the new notebook will be equipped with Intel’s latest Ultra 7 processor and the Nvidia RTX4060 GPU.

Last year’s Honor Magic 5 series included three models, such as the Magic 5, Magic 5 Pro, and Magic 5 Ultimate. The Pro and Ultimate models packed the same specs, but the Ultimate variant sported a different design, offering a unique camera module and a ceramic / leather build.

In January of this year, Honor unveiled the Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro smartphones in China. It is unclear whether the Magic 6 RSR and Ultimate are different or the same devices. If they are the same, the third model might be something entirely different. As of now, Honor has not officially announced these pre-orders. Hopefully, the official announcement will provide clarity regarding the upcoming devices planned for the Chinese market this month.

Reports have revealed that the major attraction of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Magic 6 RSR is that it will feature the 50-megapixel OV50K main camera.  It is said to be OmniVision’s first one-inch camera sensor.

Xiaomi 15 series reportedly tests ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanners

Xiaomi is reportedly working on the Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones for the Chinese market. The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro debuted in October 2023 as the first smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Xiaomi 15 lineup may likely debut around the same time this year. A new leak, courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station, has revealed key information about the fingerprint scanner in the 15 series.

Xiaomi 15 series’ may feature ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner

The upcoming Xiaomi 15 series may come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform. The new leak by DCS suggests that the entire 15 series, which possibly includes the Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro, and 15 Ultra, is currently testing Goodix single-point ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology. This will mark a departure from the optical fingerprint technology used in the Xiaomi 14 series.

Ultrasonic fingerprint recognition works by emitting ultrasonic waves from beneath the screen when the finger is pressed against it. These waves interact with the unique patterns of ridges and valleys on the fingerprint. By analyzing the time taken for these echoes to return and their intensity, the scanner constructs a precise 3D image of the fingerprint, allowing for accurate and secure authentication.

Ultrasonic fingerprint technology offers several advantages over optical fingerprint recognition, including better penetration, resistance to water and smudges, higher accuracy, support for detecting live fingers, and enhanced security.

DCS stated that it is still quite early to confirm the inclusion of an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner on the Xiaomi 15 series. He added that the hardware New Product Introduction (NPI) phase for the 15 series is scheduled to commence in April, at which time more concrete details may emerge.

As compared to other flagship phones, the Xiaomi 14 has a smaller display that measures 6.36 inches. The Xiaomi 15 will likely continue to be a compact flagship phone. DCS’ leak also suggests that competing brands may also launch similarly sized smartphones in China.

iPhone SE 4 CAD renders reveal iPhone 14-like design

Apple‘s next budget-friendly iPhone, the iPhone SE 4, has seemingly had its design revealed in CAD renders obtained by 91Mobiles. These images depict a significant departure from the previous iPhone SE models, embracing modern design elements like a larger notched display and a USB-C port.

iPhone SE 4 CAD Renders

iPhone SE 4 CAD Renders

The most striking change is the shift from a 4.7-inch LCD display with a home button to a larger 6.1-inch all-screen design with a notch. This notch is expected to house the TrueDepth camera system, enabling Face ID authentication for the first time in an iPhone SE model. The bezels are also noticeably slimmer, bringing the iPhone SE 4 into line with current smartphone trends.

Another major change is the adoption of a USB-C port, replacing the traditional Lightning port used by Apple devices for years. This aligns with the recent shift in the European Union, which mandated a universal USB-C charging port for all smartphones by 2024. While the iPhone 15 series embraced USB-C, the iPhone SE line remained on Lightning, so this is a welcome change for those seeking wider compatibility and faster charging capabilities.

The renders also suggest the iPhone SE 4 will retain a single rear camera, similar to its predecessors. While not explicitly shown, rumors suggest the inclusion of an “Action Button,” possibly a customizable shortcut key. Dimensionally, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be nearly identical to the iPhone 14, measuring 147.7 x 71.5 x 7.7mm. This information corroborates previous reports, which also hinted at the use of the iPhone 14’s design as a base.

The iPhone SE 4 is rumored to launch sometime next year, though a surprise appearance at Apple’s upcoming fall event alongside the iPhone 16 series isn’t entirely out of the question.

This potential shift in design philosophy suggests Apple might be aiming to revitalize the “affordable” iPhone segment. With a larger display, Face ID, and USB-C, the iPhone SE 4 could offer a compelling option for users seeking a modern iPhone experience at a potentially more accessible price point.

BYD hits over 120,000 NEV sales in February, totaling over 320,000 in 2024

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD experienced a dip in February sales compared to the same period last year but remains on track for a strong year with over 320,000 units sold so far in 2024.

According to a recent announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, BYD sold 122,311 new energy vehicles (NEV) in February, down from 193,655 units in February 2023. This decrease can be partially attributed to the timing of the Lunar New Year holiday, which can impact consumer spending patterns in China.

BYD Song PLUS SUV

Steady Market Performance and International Expansion

Despite the February dip, BYD’s year-to-date sales remain impressive at 323,804 units, showcasing the company’s continued dominance in the Chinese new energy vehicle market. The Song Plus SUV emerged as the company’s best-selling model in February, moving 20,173 units. This highlights BYD’s strong foothold in the popular SUV segment. The Yangwang U8, a high-end off-road offering, also saw decent sales of 780 units, indicating potential in the premium SUV market.

Other BYD models, including those from the Dynasty and Ocean Networks, maintained consistent sales throughout February. The Qin, Han, Tang, and Yuan families, along with the Seagull and Dolphin models from the Ocean Network, all contributed to BYD’s overall sales figures.

BYD’s international presence is also flourishing. The company exported a total of 23,291 new energy passenger cars in February, demonstrating the global appeal of its electric vehicles and the success of its internationalization strategy.

Looking ahead, BYD‘s sales are expected to continue growing as the company introduces new models and further strengthens its brand recognition in both domestic and international markets.

In a recent announcement at its Dream Day event in Shenzhen, BYD also unveiled plans to invest $14 billion in smart cars. CEO Wang Chuanfu highlighted the importance of intelligent new energy vehicles in the industry’s future, showcasing the Xuanji smart car system integrating various technologies.

This investment aims to boost BYD’s competitiveness in features like autonomous driving and voice recognition, as it seeks to compete with rivals like Nio and Xpeng in China’s growing EV market. Last year, BYD sold over 3 million new energy vehicles, with plans to launch over 10 high-end smart driving models equipped with lidar sensors.

WhatsApp testing third-party chat management feature in latest beta

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, is making progress towards enabling cross-platform communication, as evidenced by the latest features discovered in its beta update for Android.

While the ability to directly message users on other platforms like Telegram or Signal isn’t live yet, WhatsApp is laying the groundwork for a future where such interaction is possible. The latest beta, version 2.24.6.2, reveals the company’s development of a “Manage Third-Party Chats” feature.

WhatsApp-logo

This feature caters to two crucial aspects: user control and EU regulatory compliance

Firstly, the feature empowers users with the ability to disable the chat interoperability service entirely. This aligns with Article 7 of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which emphasizes user control over data sharing and communication preferences. This option allows users who aren’t interested in cross-platform messaging to completely opt-out.

Secondly, the feature offers granular control over which third-party apps can interact with WhatsApp. This fosters user autonomy and enables them to curate their communication experience. Users can choose to integrate only with trusted messaging services, tailoring their level of interconnectivity.

Whatsapp third party chat manage feature

This ability to selectively manage third-party app access is particularly advantageous. Users can avoid unwanted communication from unfamiliar platforms while maintaining connections with desired services. Additionally, disabling the entire service provides a clear exit strategy for users who change their minds about cross-platform messaging.

It’s important to note that disabling the service comes with limitations. Existing third-party chats will transition to a read-only mode, meaning users can’t send or receive new messages within those conversations. However, these chats remain accessible within WhatsApp and can be deleted at the user’s discretion.

While the “Manage Third-Party Chats” feature is currently under development, it paves the way for a more interconnected future for WhatsApp users. Amazfit launches Body Composition Mat that works in conjunction with smartwatch for enhanced health tracking

Amazfit, a wearable technology brand, has introduced a new product aimed at comprehensive health tracking. Dubbed the Amazfit Body Composition Analyser Mat, it is designed for use in conjunction with the Amazfit Balance fitness smartwatch launched last year. Let’s learn more about it here.

Amazfit Body Composition Analyzer Mat Launch

Amazfit Body Composition Analyser Mat Specifications

The Body Composition Analyzer Mat provides detailed body composition readings by employing bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology. This involves standing on the device’s stainless steel electrodes which send safe, low-level electrical pulses through the body.

As per Amazfit, the resistance to these pulses helps calculate eight key health metrics — body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone mass, BMI, skeletal muscle, water content, protein levels, and basal metabolic rate.

While the Amazfit Balance watch can give similar measurements, the company says it can only measure the metrics of upper body. So, the mat focuses on measuring your lower body. Amazfit claims that analyzing both upper and lower body data together significantly improves the accuracy of health analysis.

Users can view the results through a dedicated “mini” analyzer app which shows a a comprehensive picture of their overall health metrics. It’s important to remember that Amazfit emphasizes that this device is not intended for medical diagnosis or treatment.

Pricing and Availability

The Amazfit Body Composition Analyser Mat is priced at €39.90.  However, the company states it will not be sold as a standalone product. Instead, it will be available in bundles or through undisclosed marketing activities.

Currently, the product’s availability is limited to France and Italy. It remains to be seen if Amazfit plans to expand the mat’s availability to other regions, including North America.

Godawari EBLU Feo electric scooter with a top speed of 60km/h, 110km range & budget pricing unveiled in India

The Godawari EBLU Feo electric scooter has been unveiled with several features and a budget-friendly price. The new e-scooter is designed as a model that seeks to challenge the dominance of Ola in the Indian e-scooter market.

Godawari EBLU Feo electric scooter

Features

The EBLU Feo comes with a range of 110km, a 60km/h top speed, and a decent torque output from its motor. It has a 2.52 kW Li-ion battery which delivers a maximum range of 110km on a single charge. The model offers a greater range than even the premium Ola Electric’s models like the S1 Pro which peaks at 181km. The significant improvement in the range means the rider can have the freedom to move further without worrying about needing to recharge. The e-scooter comes with a 3,600Wh motor with a maximum torque of 110Nm, allowing it to easily navigate hilly terrains and inclines.

The top speed of the Godawari EBLU Feo e-scooter is slightly lower than Ola’s models but this is well compensated in other aspects. It comes with solid acceleration and smooth handling which trumps up any marginal gain in top speed. The scooter offers Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation, anti-theft features, and a digital instrument cluster. The scooter is being promoted as a complete gadget for a smooth, safe, and enjoyable ride always. It is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) for optimal stopping power in different scenarios. Visibility on the e-scooter is enhanced by the side-stand indicator and backlight.

Pricing

The Godawari EBLU Feo has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 99,999 ($1,205). This is as cheap as it can get and the price is far lower than Ola Electric’s offerings in the segment. It is expected that the budget-friendly price of the EBLU Feo, coupled with its exciting safety and performance features, would engender a greater demand for the model ahead of Ola Electric’s e-scooters.
