AYANEO Retro Mini PC AM01 Review:They remade Macintosh?

Today I got a Retro Mini-PC from AYANEO – this AM01. To be honest, I was curious to see what kind of Mini-PC would be like from a manufacturer who specializes in Windows handheld gaming devices. First of all, the version I got is powered by Ryzen7 5700U 32G memory and 1TB SSD.

Unbox

The colors on the packaging is quite retro, and the text and graphics have been designed in a pixel style. When I opened the package, I must say that the unique retro design really caught my eye.

Other than the PC itself, there is also a set of pixel art style stickers, that can be attached to any place you want to decorate. In addition to that, there is a power adapter with wide input and AC power adapters of various sizes.

Surprisingly, it also comes with a disassembly tool and accessories for installing the hard disk. The box is so full of accessories, it’s like AYANEO would even love to have an engineer in the box!

Design

The AYANEO AM01 is a real eye-catcher. The appearance is a clear homage to the Macintosh, the legendary PC launched by Apple in 1984. Although the size is completely different from the real Macintosh, many details are still very much the same, such as the location of the Macintosh floppy drive. However, the floppy drive portal is cleverly designed as an on/off switch. AYANEO’s logo has been magnetized and can work with the magneitc decorative pieces included in the package, to create your own look with the stickers also. All I can say is that AYANEO has done a great job in design.

The outer case is made of plastic, and the color is a kind of oxidized plastic beige, which can also be called “APPLE beige”. Personally, I like this color very much, it’s classic and good looking. I have to say, it’s definitely the most eye-catching device on the desk. Meanwhile, there is an extensive amount of hollowing on the case, in cooling tests, the AM01 did perform very well.

My only complaint about the appearance is the layout, when I place the unit horizontally on my desk, I can’t see the delicate front. If I put it up vertically, the cables brake the harmony, I am torn, but let me know in the comment section if you have the perfect solution.

I/O

In terms of IO ports, there’s a Type-C 5Gbps connector on the front and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the rear gets a full complement of ports, which are more than enough for everyday use.

Performance

Ryzen7 5700U is a chip that many people are familiar with, Zen3 architecture, 8 Cores and 16 Threads, 8MB L3 cache. It can provide strong performance. I first ran the CPUZ test and the scores were very close to the i7-10700 which also has 8 cores, good performance.

in the more stressful Cinebench 2024, the Ryzen7 5700U still performed well.

In the 10 minute stress test, this chip stayed at 35W all along, running at 3.3Ghz, temperatures at around 80°C, The CPU still managed to run at around 3Ghz during the combined CPU and GPU stress test, nice performance.

The 5700U is equipped with a Vega8 core graphics card, and in time spy tests this Vega8 performance is roughly comparable to the MX350, and if you run games with low graphics requirements, the Vega8 still performs well.

Overall, the Ryzen7 5700U is great for everyday use, providing great CPU performance, and decent GPU performance.

In terms of noise, the fan barely spins during daily use, and during stress tests there is noise that can be noticed, but it is very minimal.

I must say that the rest of the configuration is also very good, the 32GB dual channel memory provides a very good read/write performance, while the 32GB memory is also enough to deal with all kinds of complex tasks.

In terms of storage, it uses a Lexar NM620 1T SSD, I also did some tests on this hard drive. Although this is a PCIE3.0 hard disk, surprisingly it almost reached the upper limit of PCIE3.0 in terms of read-and-write performance, very good. At the same time, I tested the large files read and write performance, it is also very good.

Game

I first tested this PC in Genshin Impact and it achieved 45fps at 1080p medium graphics preset, it’s worth noting that I did the test in the much more stressful Fontaine area.

In Counterstrike 2, with the graphics set at 1080p minimum, the average fps was around 100 in death match. In a casual game like Civilization, there’s no doubt that it runs at 60fps all along, a very good gaming experience.

So if you’re not a heavy user, this GPU performance is more than enough to be your gaming PC, and as for the CPU, you can trust the 8 ZEN3 cores.

Software

Like all AYANEO handheld gaming devices, the AM01 comes with AYAspace, which makes it very easy to set up the TDP, fan speed and manage my games, etc. It also allows you to monitor performance and personalize your game. Performance monitoring and personalized settings are also possible. For a mini-PC device, AYAspace is clearly a plus.

Conclusion

Overall, the AYANEO Retro AM01 mini-PC has an impressive look, and very nice little design on other things that allows for easy DIY. If you are attracted by the great look, you will also be pleasantly surprised by the good CPU performance.

Check out the unique Retro MINI PC here.

Redmagic 9 Pro review: The Mobile Gamer’s Dream Phone, Again

RedMagic is definitely the most special phone brand in these couple of years.

Now in the niche market of gaming phones, it’s not easy for any brand to survive. Some brands shifted their strategies to the mass market, such as iQOO, while unfortunately, some even have been close to backing down from the market. You know what I’m talking about. Yeah, it’s Black Shark, it used to be my favorite gaming phone brand.

However, only RedMagic is still running wild on the gaming-phone path and is starting to try designs that will always remain only in the minds of other phone makers.

What? ROG phone? Well, an old castle owner, let’s cut him a slack.

RedMagic

The latest RedMagic 9 Pro in my hand is the most specially designed phone in 2023, probably taking the title until 2024, unless RedMagic releases a new model to defeat their own 9 Pro.

Technically, its innovative design wasn’t just developed based on the need for gaming, such as the punchless screen and the perfect rectangular shape. As well as a completely flat back design. the RedMagic 9 Pro is designed to look like a betrayal of the mainstream phone market.

Unbox

The packaging for the RedMagic 9 Pro is with a rarely seen silver color as well as glossy accents. The hard case comes with it fits the phone perfectly. There is also a charger and a charging cable inside the package.

First I would like to talk about the charger which supports up to 80W and has decent charging protocol support.

Unfortunately it is a glossy black finish and it’s definitely the most fingerprint-prone charger on the planet. A hacker could easily take everything I have just by stealing the charger.

Design

The RedMagic 9 Pro looks like a phone from the future. The experience of viewing this phone from the front is outstanding, with extremely narrow bezels, coupled with an under-screen camera and square screen proportions delivering an unrivaled visual.

No matter what angle you look at the screen, it is just outstanding. Most of the time it is very difficult to spot the under-screen camera, even on close inspection. It is only vaguely visible against a white background with low brightness.

This phone has a very cool back design that is completely flat with a carbon fiber texture. As well as RGB lights, there is no doubt that no one can resist such a look. One thing worth noting is that like RedMagic’s previous phones, the 9 Pro also packs a cooling fan, but this time the design is much more understated, subtly blending in with the camera’s camera. In 2023, if you want a flagship phone without a raised camera, the RedMagic 9 Pro is the only choice.

The flash portion has a very small bump that’s about as thick as a piece of paper. In the frame, there is quite a lot of stuff, a 3.5MMW headphone jack, IR remote, touch trigger, 3 microphones, dual speakers, and more.

Some may complain about the thickness and grip, but compared to the iPhone 14, the thickness is acceptable. And thanks to the slightly curved connection between the frame and the screen, the grip feels unexpectedly good.

The phone I got has a small stain where the fan is located, and not just me, some of the users who have purchased the 9 Pro have also responded with similar issues, SO, please also consider it before buying. It doesn’t affect the use, but, it just looks a little embarrassing.

Performance

The performance is the strongest among the 8Gen3 phones I have tested. Whether it was Geekbench or 3DMark, the 9 Pro got scores that other phones struggled to match.

The only complaint I have is that RedMagic doesn’t offer a 16GB-RAM option on the 9 Pro, so if you want 16GB, you’ll have to buy the 9 Pro+. However, it’s not very wise to pay the extra money for the Plus variant. You can check out the differences between them here:

Game Test

First of all in Genshin Impact, without a doubt, it was easily kept at 60fps all the time, with power consumption at around 5w like most Snapdragon 8Gen3 phones, in PUBG mobile, perfect 90fps with a very smooth gaming experience. In Honor of Kings, the game runs at 120fps the whole time and has very excellent power control.

Of course, if you want even more performance, you can manually turn on Diablo mode, and this 8Gen3’s CPU and GPU will run at ultra-high frequencies. I tested it for 20 minutes in Harajuku with Diablo mode on, the average power consumption was rising to 9.2W and there was no downclocking at all during the 20 minutes of gaming, which is insane.

Meanwhile, the RedMagic 9 Pro got close to a maximum temperature of 50°C, even coming with a hardworking fan running. That’s probably an extreme performance that we could run on the Snapdragon 8Gen 3 platform.

8gen3 is strong enough to easily crash almost any game even without Diablo mode on, I think Diablo mode is designed for geeks and emulator players.

If you are an FPS game player, then the 9 Pro’s shoulder triggers can be effective in improving your game, I usually set the left one as aiming acts and the right set as shooting. That’s still very useful, compared to regular phone players, you can always have quicker responses. If there’s anything that feels better than the touchable triggers, it must be Black Shark’s mechanical triggers, which, however, are probably going to be history with the brand. I do miss the physical feedback on the Black Shark 4 series.

Fully Covered Display

The RedMagic 9 Pro comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen and uses a 20:9 ratio and smaller curvature, so it’s not just for gaming, the screen also provides an excellent experience when watching videos.

This screen also has a manual maximum brightness of 600nit and an excitation brightness of 1600nit, as well as low brightness PWM dimming and high brightness DC dimming. Simply put, this is a good gaming screen.

Battery & Charging

The 9 Pro has a large 6500mAh battery, and it doesn’t consume more power than any other 8gen3 phone if Diablo mode isn’t on, all in all, the RedMagic 9 Pro can please any picky person when it comes to battery life.

It has a maximum charging power of 80W, and it takes about 38 minutes to fully charge the battery, which is even better than some phones with 100W charging power.

The other good news is that the RedMagic 9 Pro supports bypass charging, and it allows you to manually turn it on whenever you need it. RedMagic really knows what gamers want.

Camera

To be honest, just looking at the specs alone, the camera on the 9 Pro is not bad. The main Camera not only has a large 1/1.57-inch sensor but also supports OIS.

I also briefly took some sample shots, but I think people who really want to buy this phone might not care too much about that. Anyway, you can check out the video here, where we show the samples.

As for the front-facing camera, it just brought me back to 2012.

Verdict

In short, the RedMagic 9 Pro has everything a gamer could want! great performance, cool looks, big battery, bypass charging, and more. This is definitely the ultimate gaming device that gamers will hard to resist.

Anyway, if you are still interested in the upgraded gaming phone, buy it at Giztop or Geekwills.

Nubia Z60 Ultra’s 6000mAh silicon carbon anode battery is now officially confirmed

Nubia has unveiled its latest flagship, the Nubia Z60 Ultra, boasting a 6000mAh silicon carbon anode battery, proudly dubbed as “the battery life ceiling of the imaging flagship”. The Nubia Z60 Ultra is set to be unveiled on December 19th.

Silicon carbon anode batteries offer higher energy density than conventional ones

Traditionally, smartphones have employed graphite anode batteries. The use of silicon with graphite in the anode increases the energy density, making it possible to hold more energy while the battery weighs the same. While pure silicon anode materials offer impressive energy density, they face challenges related to expansion during charging and discharging cycles. This challenge is overcome by employing a mixture of silicon and graphite (carbon) materials for the anode, and this is precisely what Nubia’s upcoming flagship utilizes.

The Z60 Ultra’s exterior design has been officially confirmed, featuring captivating options such as the Starry Sky Collector’s Edition, Galaxy, and Shine colors. The Starry Sky Collector’s Edition boasts an exclusive glasses-free 3D star diamond relief technology on its back panel, coupled with a high-resolution starry sky micro-etching process and a unique “lens nano texture.” Meanwhile, the Galaxy and Star Shine color variants employ an AG matte process, creating an aesthetically pleasing combination of matte and bright light elements.

On the rear side, the device showcases a fifth-generation under-display camera (UDC) full-screen display with narrow bezels. The camera setup includes an 18mm 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 35mm 50MP primary camera, and an 85mm 64MP periscope telephoto lens, all equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS). The Z60 Ultra is anticipated to run on the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, support 80W wired fast charging, and come with IP68-rated dust and water resistance.

In conclusion, Nubia’s Z60 Ultra continues to focus on performance alongside its imaging capabilities, addresses a crucial aspect of smartphone usage – the battery life.

Leaked renders show design, color options of upcoming Moto G24 Power and G34

Looks like Motorola has two new budget phones in the works, the Moto G24 Power and Moto G34. They’re expected to hit European markets soon. And ahead of their launch, the design of both the Moto G24 Power and Moto G34 have been leaked in a new set of renders. So let’s talk about them in detail here.

Moto G24 Power / Moto G34 renders

The G24 Power sticks to the classic Moto G series look — a glossy back with curved edges, a central logo, and a camera bump that houses a 50MP main lens. The front of the phone has a punch-hole cutout for a selfie camera, while the screen has a slightly thicker chin as is typical of most budget devices.

We can see the volume rocker and power button on the right edge, while the left is home to a SIM tray. And, as is obvious, the USB-C charging port sits along with a speaker and a headphone jack at the bottom. The phone will be available in silver and dark color options.

Talking about the Moto G34, the renders show a familiar look for the device. But it comes with a faux leather back in a dark blue variant while there’s also a light blue option with a glossy finish.

Like the G24 Power, the G34 will also have a dual-camera setup led by a 50MP main lens. And of course, the phone keeps all the essentials you need – a headphone jack, USB-C port, and speaker.

Motorola hasn’t officially unveiled the launch date or full specs for these smartphones. However, since leaks have surfaced, we can expect them to pop up on certification sites soon, followed by an official launch. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

DHL’s Electric Truck Initiative in Ohio Marks a Greener Turn in Logistics

DHL is undoubtedly a global leader in logistics, and now the company seems to be steering towards a far greener future by incorporating electric trucks into its fleet, particularly in regions like Ohio, often overlooked in the electrification race. The initiative reflects a broader shift in the industry towards sustainable practices.

These electric trucks are designed for last-mile deliveries

While California often steals the limelight in the electrified vehicle market, Ohio’s involvement with DHL’s electric trucks is significant. It presents a valuable case study for EV usage in less publicized areas, offering insights into their practicality beyond the typical settings.

DHL

DHL’s decision to pivot towards electric trucks, despite not being a major player in door-to-door parcel delivery in the U.S., demonstrates a commitment to reducing emissions in international and contract shipping. Their fleet, though not extensive, is set to include 17 electric trucks by spring 2024. This move aligns with the company’s global strategy, where they already operate 30,000 light-to-heavy duty EVs.

These electric trucks are tailored for last-mile deliveries, primarily in urban settings and shorter routes. This strategy is not just environmentally friendly but also economically sensible. Electric trucks consume about 50% less energy than their diesel counterparts, offering a substantial cost benefit in the long run.

DHL’s focus on testing these trucks outside of California, in places like Ohio, is strategic. It allows the company to assess the trucks’ performance in varied climates and conditions, ensuring their efficiency and reliability across different regions.

Charging infrastructure is a critical component of this transition. DHL’s approach of relying on in-house charging facilities, rather than public infrastructure, highlights a self-sufficient model that could inspire others in the industry.

The shift to electric trucks is more than just an environmental or economic decision. It’s about enhancing driver experience. Quieter, more comfortable, and quicker trucks mean less fatigue for drivers, potentially making the profession more attractive in an industry facing driver shortages.

DHL’s ambitious goal to electrify 30% of its fleet by 2030 is a testament to the potential of electric trucks in making shipping both cheaper and greener. As the industry evolves, DHL’s pioneering efforts could pave the way for a more sustainable future in logistics.

The electric scooter has three riding modes – eco, comfort and speed.

At first glance, the Tennis-E is a nod to the past. It’s crafted with a touch of retro, reminiscent of classic scooters, but don’t let its charming looks fool you. This scooter is all about embracing the future. It ditches the traditional gasoline engine for a silent, eco-friendly electric motor. This change isn’t just about going green; it’s about smooth, quiet rides that don’t compromise on power.

E-Scooter

Speaking of power, the Tennis-E might look cute, but it packs a punch. Its motor delivers up to 6.7 horsepower – roughly equal to a 125cc gas scooter. But here’s the kicker: it offers a massive 175 Nm of torque. That means quicker acceleration and a sprightly feel, especially in city traffic.

The design is a mix of old and new. The body is sleek, with a minimalist style and splashes of color. Modern features like the dual-optic headlight and LED lights add a contemporary twist. It’s not just a scooter; it’s a fashion statement on wheels.

But it’s not all about looks. The Tennis-E is practical too. It has three ride modes (Eco, Comfort, and Sport) to suit your mood and needs. The top speed? A nifty 53 miles per hour. Plus, with two removable batteries , you can tailor the weight for shorter trips or go full throttle for longer rides. And when you’re done, a four-hour charge gets you ready to roll again.

The Tennis-E is expected to hit the European market by spring 2024. While its price is still under wraps, it’s shaping up to be a hot pick for those who want a dash of style with their sustainable ride. In a world where electric is the future, the Tennis-E is a small but mighty step in the right direction, blending the best of both worlds.

BYD takes on Tesla in North America with the launch of the 2024 Seal EV in Mexico

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has unveiled its latest electric sedan, the 2024 BYD Seal, in the burgeoning Mexican market. This marks BYD’s second foray into Mexico’s EV landscape after the successful launch of the BYD Dolphin in September.

2024 BYD Seal

BYD Making inroads into North America. Is this a threat to Tesla’s dominance in the region?

The Seal, built on the innovative e-platform 3.0, boasts cutting-edge technology with its unique Cell-to-Body (CTB) integration, seamlessly embedding the battery into the chassis. This distinctive feature enhances the overall performance and handling of the vehicle.

BYD has introduced two versions of the Seal in Mexico, catering to diverse consumer preferences. The entry-level single-motor Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant offers a formidable 150 kW rear motor, 7.5 seconds 0-100 km/h acceleration, and a commendable range of 460 km based on WLTP standards. The dual motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant, a powerhouse with 523 horsepower, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, featuring a robust 82.56 kWh LFP Blade battery for an extended range of 520 km.

Notably, BYD’s pricing strategy positions the Seal as a compelling alternative to competitors like Tesla. With the RWD version priced at 778,800 pesos and the AWD variant at 888,800 pesos, BYD aims to offer a competitive and attractive package for Mexican consumers.

The move comes at a strategic time, aligning with the increasing importance of the Mexican market for Chinese EV manufacturers. Following Tesla’s plans for a Giga Mexico plant, BYD’s presence reinforces China’s commitment to establishing a foothold in the region, potentially serving as a gateway for Chinese EVs into the U.S. market.

BYD’s consideration of a manufacturing plant in Mexico underlines the company’s dedication to long-term growth and local market penetration. With a diverse portfolio, including the Han sedan, Tang SUV, Yuan Plus mid-size SUV, Dolphin Hatchback, and now the Seal, BYD continues to solidify its position as a key player in the global EV landscape.
