Intel’s PC chip ship is sinking with ARM-ada on the horizon

Intel is facing a number of serious challenges, including the rise of ARM-based PCs and Apple Silicon. Nvidia, AMD, and Qualcomm are all developing ARM-based PC platforms, which could pose a major threat to Intel’s dominance in the PC chip market. ARM-based chips are known for being more energy-efficient and less expensive than x86 chips, which are the type of chips that Intel uses.

Apple Silicon has also shown that ARM can be best-of-breed across the PC landscape. Intel needs to collaborate with other companies and be more flexible in order to meet the needs of its customers. It is too late for Intel to get back into the mobile market, and the dynamics that lost it the mobile market are spreading to commodity PCs and laptops. This is because the market is demanding more energy-efficient and less expensive devices.

Intel needs to improve its innovation process and focus on customer needs. If Intel can do these things, it may be able to survive in the new era of computing. However, if Intel fails to change, it could be left behind by its competitors.

Google develops tech to turn ANC earbuds into cardiac monitors

Google researchers have developed a new technology called APG (Audioplethysmography) that can turn any existing ANC earbuds into cardiac monitors with the help of a software update. The tech giant published a research paper titled “APG: Audioplethysmography for Cardiac Monitoring in Hearables” detailing this new tech.

Google says APG is an acoustic sensing system that sends a low-intensity ultrasound probing signal using the speakers on ANC earbuds and headphones and receives the echoes via the onboard microphones. The company then uses a mathematical model to analyze and convert the ultrasound echoes into heart rate readings.

Google conducted an eight-month field study with 153 participants to evaluate APG and found that it is highly accurate in reporting heart rate readings (3.21% median error) and heart rate variability readings (2.70% median error).

The tech even works to monitor cardiac activity when music is playing on the earbuds and when the body is in motion while doing activities like running.

Google is now focusing on testing APG with more rigorous motion activities like hiking, weightlifting, boxing, and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) to improve the performance of the tech. The company believes that APG has the potential to enable many other exciting health research opportunities.

Japanese automaker Isuzu has unveiled its first electric bus, the Isuzu Erga EV. The Erga EV is being touted as the world’s first battery electric flat-floor bus. It was on display during the 2023 Japan Mobility Show and is scheduled to enter the Japanese market in 2024.

Features

The Isuzu Erga EV has a seating capacity of 90 passengers and a range of up to 300km. It is equipped with an array of components that ensure a safe and comfortable ride. These include automatic emergency braking system (AEBS), lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring systems. The bus also features adaptive cruise control and USB charging ports for passengers.

The flat-floor, low-height design of the Erga EV, in addition to its flexible layout, means that there are no steps at the rear of the bus. This creates a fully-wide and easily accessible interior which allows passengers to easily hop in or get off the bus.

The Isuzu Erga lacks a large power plant which resulted in its passenger-friendly interior architecture. It is powered by a rear-wheel drive permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The motor is very efficient and has a high power density, delivering smoother acceleration/ deceleration, as well as lower noise and vibration. The design of the Erga maximizes the comfort and safety of passengers inside the bus.

Isuzu continues its pursuit of zero carbon emissions in Japan. It has continued to evolve innovative solutions since 2010 when it released the Selective Catalytic Reduction System. Isuzu began its electrification efforts with the launch of the Elf EV in 2012. The release of the Isuzu Erga in 2024 will mark another milestone in its carbon-neutral contributions.

Details

Xpeng is an electric car startup firm with a growing portfolio of impressive concept vehicles. The latest offering is called the Land Aircraft Carrier is designed for use by emergency service providers operating in difficult terrain. It can be deployed to a variety of challenging scenarios such as mountain rescue. It has to be stated that although the Land Aircraft Carrier concept has a similar design to the Cybertruck, it is not a direct copy or clone of the Tesla powerhouse. It has flat sides, angular panels, and an unpainted steel finish similar to the Cybertruck.

The Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier is a hybrid vehicle, unlike the Tesla Cybertruck which is fully electric. In addition to its electric architecture, it has an internal combustion engine. Its hybrid system makes it more versatile to operate in dangerous conditions. The rear hatch of the Land Aircraft Carrier, when opened, reveals a storage compartment for a flying car. The helicopter-style two-person aircraft can be deployed from the cargo area of the vehicle if needed in emergency situations.

The Xpeng Land Aircraft Carrier is the company’s fifth concept model in development. It has partnered with Volkswagen to develop EVs for the Chinese market. BYD’s Q3 2023 Financial Report

In the third quarter, BYD reported robust financial growth with impressive figures. Their revenue reached CNY 162.151 billion ($22.701 billion), a substantial increase of 38.49% from the previous year. Net profits also surged to CNY 10.413 billion ($1.458 billion), representing an 82.16% rise. These results highlight strong market support and operational efficiency, consistent with their earlier forecast of a significant net profit increase for the first three quarters of 2023.

Although this quarter’s profits didn’t surpass the CNY 10.954 billion ($1.534 billion) reported in the mid-year, it does establish a historic high for BYD. This achievement marks the first time they have exceeded the CNY 10 billion milestone within a single quarter, a feat they previously accomplished only on an annual basis in 2022.

BYD’s financial success can be primarily attributed to strong vehicle sales. In September, they introduced 287,454 new vehicles, with the majority being passenger cars at 286,903 units, reflecting a substantial 42.8% year-on-year increase.

Over the first nine months of the year, cumulative sales reached an impressive 2.07 million vehicles, demonstrating a remarkable 76.23% surge from the previous year. These figures underscore BYD’s growing prominence in the automotive sector and the effectiveness of its market capture strategy.

Additionally, BYD is expanding its brand presence through its subsidiary, Formula Leopard, by opening 70 new direct-operated stores, with 10 more planned. They aim to increase consumer touchpoints in 60+ major cities by the end of 2023, focusing on improving customer experiences and service quality.

BYD has also expanded its presence in 2023 across several countries, including Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Thailand, with a focus on electric vehicles and batteries. They’ve formed partnerships with local companies and governments to produce electric buses and vehicles. However, there was a setback in India as their $1 billion electric vehicle factory proposal was rejected.

As per a tweet by known tipster Parag Guglani, the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G is expected to include a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It will have a 50-megapixel triple rear camera with 10x zoom, 5-megapixel, and 2-megapixel sensors. On the front, the smartphone will have a 13-megapixel selfie camera.

It will offer up to 128GB of internal storage, expandable up to 1TB. Additionally, it will feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, and be powered by the MediaTek MT6835 aka the Dimensity 6100+ processor running on Android 13. Memory options will include 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and color choices will include Black and Blue.

Through an earlier Geekbench listing, we know that the 4G variant of the Galaxy A15 will have a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, paired with 4GB RAM and Android 13. Currently, there is no confirmation on a launch timeline, however, Paras Guglani has claimed that the 5G variant will cost $149.

What’s really cool is how much thought Toyota’s putting into making this car a true sports car. It’s not just about going fast. They’re also focusing on keeping the car light but strong. Initiated during a meeting in May known as the “Hiroshima AI process,” the leaders of the G7 countries, which include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, and the United States, as well as the European Union, have finally reached consensus. The 11-point code puts emphasis on “safe, secure, and trustworthy AI,” offering guidelines for companies to identify and mitigate risks throughout the lifecycle of AI products.

Rather than just outlining what not to do, the code encourages companies to be transparent. It suggests that firms should regularly publish reports detailing the capabilities and limitations of their AI systems, as well as any observed misuse. This could serve as a catalyst for a culture of responsible AI development, moving the industry from a reactive to a proactive stance on ethical concerns.

While the European Union has been a trailblazer in AI regulations through its stringent AI Act, other nations have taken a more economic growth-oriented approach. The E-Pop therefore marks Neco’s entry into the electric two-wheeler segment. The E-Pop has a similar performance rating as the typical e-bike or moped in the US. It also has a design similar to the Honda Ruckus with its exposed frame. Indeed, the Neco E-Pop looks like a compact version of the Ruckus.

The E-Pop is equipped with a 1.2kW rear hub electric motor that delivers a top speed of 45km/h for the model. Its 48V 28Ah battery gives the bike a range of about 60km on a single charge. The battery is removable and can be recharged on or off the bike.

The E-Pop has a double rear shock system and a front telescopic fork. It uses 10-inch wheels and disc brakes at both front and rear. The E-Pop has full LED lights, a keyless start, a built-in luggage rack, and a USB charging port. The E-Pop weighs about 55kg and its practical folding handlebars make it easier to store and transport.

Pricing & Availability

The Neco E-Pop is available in Europe for €1,999 (~$2,120). Four color options are available for the model namely black, yellow, green, and orange. There are no availability details for the Neco E-Pop for other markets at this time.

Realme is already working on the GT 5 Pro smartphone. It is already confirmed to be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Recently, the device surfaced on the TENAA certification site with key specifications. Although the exact launch timeline of the upcoming smartphone remains a mystery, leaks, and rumors have revealed plenty of information. Now, the Realme GT 5 Pro has been spotted on the AnTuTu benchmarking platform.

Realme GT 5 Pro surfaces on AnTuTu

On AnTuTu, the Realme GT 5 Pro carries a model number RMX3888 which is the same as TENAA listing. The smartphone records 5,29,065 points in the CPU test and 9,14,327 points in GPU. In memory test, it scores 4,40,192 points whereas in UX, it performs 3,46,112 points. In terms of overall performance, the Realme GT 5 Pro scores 2,229,696 points in the AnTuTu test.

Apart from the Realme GT 5 Pro, Vivo’s X100 and the OnePlus 12 were also spotted on the AnTuTu benchmark platform. The X100 with the unannounced Dimensity 9300 SoC leads the pack whereas the GT 5 Pro comes second and the OnePlus 12 at third place. Both the upcoming flagships from Realme and OnePlus are confirmed to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

As per the TENAA listing, the Realme GT 5 Pro is expected to come with a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display bearing a 1.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it will reportedly pack up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. The device is tipped to be backed by a 5,400mAh battery unit with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. In September this year, Realme teased a periscope telephoto lens inside a circular camera module. It is potentially expected to debut on the GT 5 Pro. The camera setup is rumored to comprise two 50MP sensors and an 8MP lens.

Vivo’s flagship X100 series have been doing the rounds of the rumor mill since the last few weeks. It is rumored to launch in China on November 17. The lineup is expected to comprise of standard, pro, and pro plus variants. They will arrive as the successor to the last year’s Vivo X90 series. While we wait for the official announcement from the brand, the standard Vivo X100 has been spotted on the AnTuTu benchmarking website. It reveals the smartphone’s score in various aspects.

Vivo X100 appears on AnTuTu

The Vivo X100 has been listed on AnTuTu benchmarking platform with model number V2309A. Overall, it scored 2,249, 858 points. The listing reveals that it has the unannounced Dimensity 9300 processor comprising of one 3.25GHz core, three 2.85GHz cores, and four 2GHz cores. In the CPU test, the device scores 5,18,632 points. Meanwhile, in the GPU test, the Immortalis- G720 MC 12 registered 9,18, 790 points.

As per the listing, the smartphone has 16GB LPDDR5T RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. In the memory test, it logged 4,74,306 points. The Vivo X100 will feature a 120Hz refresh rate and it scored 3,38,400 points in the UX test. The benchmark listing does not reveal any additional details. Software-wise, the upcoming offering will ship with Android 14 OS out of the box.

Earlier today, Digital Chat Station revealed that the standard and pro variants of the Vivo X100 will come in White and Blue color options with a glass back and a leather textured variant with Orange hue. The X100 series is also tipped to be the first in the world with LPDDR5T RAM technology. iQOO is gearing up to unveil the iQOO 12 series smartphones in China on November 7. The Vivo sub-brand has been teasing key details of the upcoming offerings. The iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro will arrive as the successors to the last year’s iQOO 11 duo. Now, ahead of the launch next week, the standard model has appeared in leaked hands-on images revealing key specifications. Read on to learn more below.

The iQOO 12 carries a model number V2307A. The images reveal the smartphone with a center-aligned punch-hole cutout and a flat display surrounded by thin bezels. As for the core specifications, the device will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor clocked at 3.2GHz. This was already confirmed earlier. The image also mentions 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. There will also be 12GB virtual RAM technology onboard. The upcoming offering will feature Vivo’s V1 Imaging chip for enhanced photography performance. The iQOO 12 is seen in a Black color option in the leaked images.

As per teasers, the iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro have the same design with a protruding square camera module with slightly curved edges. It houses three sensors out of which one is a periscope lens. Both devices are teased to feature a 100x tele lens. The upcoming offerings are also confirmed to pack a Q1 e-sports chip that is a dedicated display processor designed to enhance gaming performance.

The iQOO 12 is teased to come in leather-textured Red color options whereas the iQOO 12 Pro is set to come in a White variant with BMW’s iconic blue, black, and red stripes.
