Google Voice is Upgrading Spam Protection to Manage Unwanted Messages

If you’ve ever been irritated by spam messages, Google has some good news for you. The tech giant is upgrading its spam protection features in Google Voice, making it easier to identify and manage spam SMS messages. The update, initially reported by 9to5Google, is available for both Android and iOS users.

The feature is coming to both Android and iOS devices

The new feature in Google Voice automatically marks messages suspected to be spam. If a message falls under this category, you’ll see a red exclamation mark on the profile avatar and the message preview will start with ‘Suspected spam.’ Once you see this label, you have two options: you can either confirm it as spam, sending future messages from that number straight to your spam folder, or mark it as not spam, preventing future messages from that number from being labeled as such.

Google

This feature is available for Voice Starter, Standard, and Premier paid customers, as well as users with free personal accounts in the US. The rollout has begun and is expected to be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

Google’s primary goal is to protect users from unwanted messages and potential scams. The company utilizes advanced artificial intelligence technology that already flags billions of spam calls every month across its network to identify suspected spam messages.

That’s not all. Google has also introduced three more updates worth noting. First, hovering over someone’s people card in Google Contacts and various Google Workspace products will now show birthday decorations. If you’ve added your birthday to your Google Account and made it visible, you’ll also get these festive visuals on your special day. Second, in the Google Sheets iOS app, adding hyperlinks to cells has been simplified, enhancing the usability of the app. Lastly, if you’re utilizing Directory Sync, you can now directly place users from Azure Active Directory or Active Directory into a specific organizational unit on the Google Workspace side.

Microsoft Just Levelled Up MS Paint by Adding Layers & Background Removal

After nearly four decades, Microsoft finally gives its iconic Paint App a much-needed makeover. The tech giant is adding support for image transparency and layers, transforming the app from a mere digital doodle pad into something more versatile. Long associated with nostalgia, MS Paint is finally stepping into the realm of advanced image editing, yet maintaining its user-friendly interface.

It’s refreshing to see Microsoft showing love to some legacy apps

Dave Grochocki, Principal Product Manager for Windows Inbox Apps, elaborated on the revamp in a blog post. According to Grochocki, the new features will allow users to “create exciting new images and artwork.” For instance, the added layer and transparency functions, when used with the new background removal feature, will make complex compositions easier to achieve.

Microsoft

Getting the hang of these features is straightforward. A new ‘layer’ option now appears in the toolbar; clicking on it opens a side panel on the canvas. This panel lets you manage layers in a way that mimics more advanced photo editing software. You can hide, duplicate, merge, or delete layers, providing more creative control over your project.

As of now, the feature update is exclusive to those enrolled in the Windows Insider program. However, a broader rollout for all Windows users is expected soon. Although these updates may not be revolutionary, they are certainly a boon for MS Paint fans. Microsoft has sent a clear message: MS Paint is evolving, but it’s not going anywhere. So, if you’ve been clinging to MS Paint for its simplicity, brace yourself for a richer experience. Microsoft is not just preserving a piece of digital history; it’s enhancing it to meet the demands of modern users.

Danger: Criminals Selling Modified Phones with Hidden Cameras that Can Take Pictures Even When Screen Is Off!

As Gizmochina, we’ve brought you many interesting articles that combine technology and crime so far. For example, we recently covered a story about three criminals in Texas who stole more than $5,000 from ATMs using a Raspberry Pi. We’ve also discussed how hackers can remotely infiltrate your smartphones. However, the content we’re talking about this time makes even those stories seem “normal.” In recent months, Chinese media have reported on a new type of “spying device” being sold online. These so-called “phones” have a headphone jack with a hidden camera, allowing you to take pictures even when the screen is turned off. Here are the details…

Chinese criminals selling modified phones with hidden cameras

According to the latest reports, Criminals in China are selling modified phones with hidden cameras, which can be used to secretly record people in public places. The phones are typically sold online for around 2,000 Yuan ($275-$300). The criminals modify the phones by removing the front-facing camera and installing it in the earphone jack.

They also install a special app that allows the phone to record even when it is turned off. The sellers of the modified phones claim that they are “invisible” and that they can be used to secretly record people in public places. Police in China have warned people to be careful about buying these phones, as they could be used to invade people’s privacy.

modified phone with hidden cameras

So far, many users on social media have fallen victim to this “unethical” technology. Unfortunately, while technology has made our lives easier in many ways, it can also facilitate criminal activities, making the world a more difficult place to live in for people. Moreover, we can’t offer much more advice to our female readers than to be aware of your surroundings. If you see someone acting suspiciously, such as holding a phone in an unusual way, be cautious.

Last month, some details about the models surfaced via certification documents. These specs and more have now been made official by the Japanese bikemaker. The continuous output of the electric motor is 6kW with a torque of 29Nm. The Kawasaki Ninja electric models have a top speed of 62mph but fall to 54mph after 15 seconds. The boost from its standard top speed of 54mph is due to the E-boost feature in the new e-bikes. The E-boost ensures a stronger acceleration when needed and comes in handy during urban rides. The acceleration capabilities of the new e-bikes are not known yet.

Kawasaki Ninja e-1 and Z e-1 electric motorcycle

The new Kawasaki e-bikes have a 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster with different layouts. There are two power modes namely road and eco, as well as a walk mode. Google Pixel Watch 2 will offer a new metal slim band accessory

As Google gears up to unveil its second-generation Pixel Watch on October 4, alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, there’s more to the story than just the watch itself. While Google has remained tight-lipped about most of the changes between the original Pixel Watch and the Pixel Watch 2, recent revelations shed light on potential accessories that could accompany the new wearable.

Google-Pixel-Watch

One notable accessory is the Milanese strap, which Google initially showcased last year but never officially released. This sleek and stylish watch band may finally see the light of day, though its pricing remains a mystery. Google had originally listed it for $129.99, offering users a premium option to complement their smartwatches.

Another accessory making waves is the Metal Slim band, which was mentioned in documents from the FCC last month in relation to the Pixel Watch 2. While details about its cost are still under wraps, it’s worth noting that Google priced its first-generation metal watch bands at $199.99, indicating that it might offer another premium option for users looking to personalize their devices.

Pixel Watch 2 specs & features

As per previous leaks, the upcoming Pixel Watch 2 from Google is said to feature a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset, offering better performance and increased power efficiency compared to its predecessor. This change hints at improved battery life, even with a modest 4% increase in battery capacity, now at 306mAh.

While the original Pixel Watch faced criticism for its chunky bezels, the Pixel Watch 2 will maintain a 1.2-inch OLED panel with a 384 x 384 resolution. However, the display is now supplied by Samsung, potentially enabling battery-saving features and enhanced brightness.

Running on Wear OS 4 based on Android 13, the Pixel Watch 2 promises seamless updates, a first for smartwatches. Updates will occur in the background and activate once the device is rebooted, although this may occupy more storage.

One standout feature is the addition of Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology via an NXP SR100T UWB module. UWB is useful for precise device-finding, aiding users in locating misplaced gadgets. It also enables the Pixel Watch 2 to function as a Digital Car key, compatible with several major automobile brands.
