Apple Reportedly Cuts iPhone 15 Production Owing To Supply Issues And Poor Demand Concerns

Apple is set to follow its tradition of unveiling the iPhone 15 series next month. As per a past report, the launch is expected to take place on September 12. Leaks and rumors have pretty much revealed everything about the next-generation flagships up till now. This year’s smartphones from the Cupertino-based tech giant are tipped to pack major upgrades since the iPhone 11. Now, just a month before the potential launch, a new report reveals unfortunate news of the iPhone 15 series.

iPhone 15 production reportedly slashed

Apple iPhone 15

Apple had previously acknowledged that the smartphone market is experiencing a slowdown. The company has been in a decline in the last couple of quarters in the US. Now, analyst Jeff Pu who is privy to an investors note sent by Apple has reported that Apple is cutting down on iPhone 15 production.

Pu stated that Apple will make 77 million iPhone 15 units which is quite less than the previous estimates of 83-85 million units to be shipped by the end of this year. This is also significantly lower compared to the current-generation iPhone 14 series.

The lower production and sales estimates are cited as supply chain issues and poor demand concerns. Apple has been facing production challenges for the iPhone 15 series. In the latest development, Pu reiterates that the next-generation iPhone models are facing production hurdles related to Sony’s camera sensors, a new titanium frame for the Pro variants, and a new display with thinner bezels.

Another reason is attributed to the poor demand. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will reportedly be expensive compared to their predecessor owing to the significant upgrades they will pack. The upcoming offerings are tipped to get a price hike of up to $200. This will likely hit the demand for the iPhone 15 series.

Pu also confirmed that the next year’s iPhone 16 Pro models will feature a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera and WiFi-7 support.

In other news, Apple has reportedly started the production of the iPhone 15 series in India. This marks the first time, the brand is locally producing devices in the country ahead of launch. Previously, newly launched iPhones used to be made in India after a few weeks.

Lenovo Legion Go handheld gaming console design revealed via leaked renders

This month, reports surfaced about Lenovo‘s development of a novel Windows-powered portable gaming device dubbed the Lenovo Legion Go. This device is anticipated to rival the recently launched Asus ROG Ally and the Valve Steam Deck, both of which have contributed to the surge in popularity of handheld consoles capable of running PC games.

Lenovo Legion Go

Now, a new report from Windowsreport reveals the design of the Legion Go’s console. The overall design of the console is quite generic, however, the console borrows the best aspects from its competitors. It has an Xbox-style controller setup that’s also present on the ROG Ally. And like the Steam Deck, it also has a trackpad onboard.

Lenovo Legion Go

It also comes with detachable controllers like the ones on the Nintendo Switch. On the Switch, the detachable function is helpful as it allows users to play games with a friend or family member without having to buy an extra controller. You can detach the Joy-Cons from the console and use them as two separate controllers. We expect the Legion Go to offer similar functionality.

With that said, the report indicates that the gaming console boasts an 8-inch screen, anticipated to be a Full HD display. The rear side of the console is equipped with several triggers, a right controller wheel, and a substantial air vent designed for cooling purposes. In terms of connectivity, the images unveil dual USB-C ports, a power button, a headphone jack, volume adjustment buttons marked with plus and minus symbols, as well as a micro-SD slot.

For now, no details regarding the specifications of the device have been revealed, but we expect to hear more about it in the coming days.

OPPO’s Global Innovation showdown: 15 Finalists announced for the 2023 Inspiration Challenge

OPPO’s 2023 Inspiration Challenge is in full swing, with 15 promising tech start-ups emerging as finalists following regional demo events in Boston, Shenzhen, and Bangkok. These innovative contenders are set to converge in Singapore this October, vying for a coveted spot in the global top 5.

The challenge garnered a remarkable 687 proposals from 66 countries, all centered around the categories of “Inspiration for People” and “Inspiration for the Planet.” From this pool, the top 15 solutions from each region were meticulously selected for the regional demo events.

In Boston, hosted by the OPPO Research Institute in collaboration with the Harvard GSAS Entrepreneur Community, 15 start-ups presented their solutions to a panel of judges, followed by comprehensive discussions with Jason Liao, Head of OPPO Research Institute, and executives from prestigious institutions.

The Shenzhen event, supported by the China University-Enterprise Collaboration Innovation Alliance (CUEC), featured OPPO Vice President Bobee Liu and other industry experts as judges. Attendees also participated in selecting winners for the “Media Choice” and “Virtuous Innovation” awards.

The last regional event occurred in Bangkok, with OPPO partnering with Chulalongkorn University. Experts from Amazon Web Services and Deloitte joined the judging process. Professor Kaywalee Chatdarong from Chulalongkorn University emphasized the shared vision for innovation and possibilities.

The finalists were determined based on four criteria: feasibility, innovation and originality, long-term potential, and social value. New York City bans TikTok on government-owned devices citing security issues

New York City has banned the use of TikTok on devices owned by the city, citing security worries. The city’s cybersecurity department evaluated the situation and determined that using TikTok could potentially harm the security of its technology network.

NYC Enforces TikTok Ban on Government Devices for Security

As of the directive’s issuance, immediate effect is given to the prohibition, forbidding city employees from downloading, utilizing, or accessing TikTok’s websites on any devices owned by the city.

In a statement to The Verge, a representative of the New York City government emphasized the importance of secure social media use for the city’s populace and acknowledged the consistent efforts of the NYC Cyber Command to safeguard the data of its residents. The directive aligns with guidance provided by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, which had previously curtailed TikTok’s usage on government devices. Moreover, recent federal legislation further supports the city’s stance against the application.

The concern stems from the app’s connection to Chinese tech giant ByteDance, raising worries that the app might facilitate data collection for potential surveillance purposes. Additionally, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is facing a lawsuit for collecting sensitive data, including face scans, through its app CapCut. These fears have led multiple U.S. states to limit TikTok’s usage on government-owned devices, and Montana notably went a step further by enacting a statewide ban.

TikTok has been partially or completely banned in the following countries: Afghanistan, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, India, and New Zealand. In the Netherlands, although not an outright ban, officials are recommended to avoid using it. Additionally, Norway has banned TikTok on governmental devices while allowing civil servants to use it on their personal devices for professional purposes.

New York City’s decision underscores the ongoing debate surrounding TikTok’s safety and its links to Chinese technology companies. While TikTok has maintained its commitment to user privacy and security, its association with ByteDance, coupled with concerns about potential Chinese government influence, has prompted widespread action to mitigate risks associated with the app’s use on government devices.

Galaxy S24 Ultra to be as light as S23 Ultra despite using titanium frame

Samsung is expected to release its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, in early 2024. The phone is rumored to have a number of improvements over its predecessor, including a titanium frame. Titanium is a denser material than aluminum, but it is also stronger and more resistant to corrosion. This means that the Galaxy S24 Ultra should be more durable than previous models.

But despite the frames being made of a denser material, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is still expected to be lightweight. Tipster Ice Universe claims that the phone will weigh just 233g, which is even 1g lighter than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is impressive, as titanium is typically heavier than aluminum. If the claim is true, it suggests that Samsung has put a lot of engineering effort into making the phone lighter and more durable.

Likewise, S24 Ultra is rumored to have a similar design to its predecessor. And even the screen’s technical specifications could largely be the same with a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

As for the cameras, the phone is rumored to have a quad-camera system on the back, consisting of a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera.

With S24 Ultra though, Samsung might offer two processor variants: Exynos 2400 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Similarly, the phone is said to have a 5,000mAh battery and support 45W fast charging. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is still months away from being unveiled, but we can expect more details to be tricked out as we approach the launch.

REDMI K60 Ultra Unboxing & Hands-on: THAT Flagship Killer is Back

When I saw that the Redmi K60 Ultra was only selling for about $350, I realized one thing: THAT FLAGSHIP KILLER IT’S BACK! It’s not the best phone out there, but who can beat it at this price point? So I ordered this K60 Ultra right away. Let’s unbox it and talk about my first impressions of it by the way.

Unboxing

The packaging is unchanged for the K60 Ultra, still a black box with oversized lettering.

The accessories box didn’t surprise us either. Card pin, manual, and warranty card. The phone case is still a transparent soft case.

The phone was wrapped in a very thin plastic bag. Put it aside for a moment to look at the accessories underneath.

A cable and a charger. The charger writes 120W, which is the same as the K60 Pro. That’s all the accessories.

Hands-on

We purchased the white version. You can never go wrong with a classic color combination of a white back panel with a silver frame. Even though the frame is made of plastic, I can live with it as long as the price is cheap enough.

The design of the K60 Ultra is less like the K60 family and more like a member of the Xiaomi 13 series. Because the camera module has gotten wider, it’s gotten better looking instead. I wouldn’t be too critical of a performance-focused phone in terms of design, after all that’s not its strong point.

When the screen lights up, you can see why it’s called the Ultra. It has a lesser ring of bumps around the screen than the Pro and Standard, giving it a nicer look.

The resolution isn’t quite at the 2k level, but it’s also a lot brighter than the rest of the K60 series, and the refresh rate is slightly higher. Considering it’s $140 cheaper than the K60 Pro, a screen like this is excellent.

Like the K60 Pro, the main camera uses an IMX 800 sensor. While we can’t expect the Redmi’s camera to be that good, well at least the sensor is a good one and it should be more than enough for recording your life.

Since it’s a K-series, there’s no doubt that performance is its strong suit. MediaTek’s flagship chip isn’t weak at all, but I’m not sure if the Dimensity 9200+ can really win over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Judging from the BenchMark scores, plus the help of the frame-insertion chip, it does have the potential to beat the 8 Gen 2 in gaming.

Because of the short time we’ve got this phone, we haven’t done any more gaming tests yet. So stay tuned for our full review of the K60 Ultra, and I’ll give you the final answer.

While the K60 Ultra gained our favor with its super low price, but by the time you see this video, OnePlus has also released their new phone. I’m not sure if it’s a better buy than the K60 Ultra. At least until August 16, the K60 Ultra is the best flagship killer out there. Of course, we’ll be doing a REVIEW of the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, so remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Chrome to notify users when extensions are removed from the Chrome Web Store

Google Chrome is adding a new safety check feature to Chrome 117. This feature will warn you if an extension you have installed has been removed from the Chrome Web Store. Extensions can be removed from the Chrome Web Store for a few reasons, such as if the developer has unpublished it, if it violates Chrome’s policies, or if it is malware. But when an extension is removed from the Chrome Web Store, you may not be informed about the reason. Chrome wants to address this by notifying you why the add-on was removed.

Chrome to provide more transparency about removed extensions

Oliver Dunk, a Chrome Extensions Developer Relations Engineer, published an article on the Chrome Developer’s blog to explain a new policy. Google Chrome will display a notification to alert users when an extension they have installed is no longer available for use. The notification will be displayed on the Safety Check page under Chrome’s Privacy and Security Settings (chrome://settings/privacy).

For example, if an extension is removed by Chrome, you will see a banner notification. You can click the “Review” button to go to chrome://extensions and see a list of removed extensions, along with the reason why they were disabled. You can remove the extension permanently or choose to hide the warning if you want to continue using it.

That being said, Google will provide developers with a grace period to address any issues that may have led to their extension being removed from the Chrome Web Store.

In a separate blog post, Google announced that it will automatically upgrade all HTTP links to HTTPS, the more secure version of HTTP that encrypts your traffic. This will happen even if you click on a link that explicitly says HTTP. Google says that it will detect when the upgrade fails and, in those cases, Chrome will fall back to HTTP. Google is currently testing this change in Chrome 115 and plans to roll it out to everyone soon.

DJI silently working on a high-end e-bike for off-roading

DJI is apparently moving away from its iconic drones and gimbals, to focus on a brand-new product line. The company is rumored to be working on a high-end e-bike, which is being developed in secret. So let’s have a look.

DJI e-bike built for the global market

According to a new report, the popular Chinese drone maker is silently developing a new e-bike, which is being internally referred to as project code EB. Sources close to the matter have revealed that the company is being silent about this product since it’s still in the confidential stage. Although, it is brought in Alex Jio, who is a senior engineer that was previously in charge of DJI’s Ruying backpack stabilizer.

DJI E-Bike

Reportedly, the development of this project started back in 2020. The upcoming e-bike is expected to be positioned as a high-end model that is built for various purposes. This includes sports and off-roading. As per a report from the Chinese publication, the e-bike will be completely self-developed by the brand and will be sold in the overseas market. In other words, it will likely be sold in global markets like the US and Europe.

This would make sense considering e-bikes are quite popular in the Western market, especially Europe. Furthermore, the “high-end” positioning also implies that the DJI e-bike will cost around 3,000 to 4,000 US Dollars since a regular e-bike already costs around 1,000 US Dollars. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation at the moment, so take this news with a pinch of salt and stick around for more updates.

The news arrives from known tipster Abhishek Yadav who shared the details on X (formerly Twitter). Oppo starts Android 14 public beta program for Find X6 Pro, OnePlus 11, and Reno 9 Pro

Google is expected to release Android 14 stable this month. Thus, partner OEMs have kickstarted their beta programs.

Oppo is one of the first Chinese OEMs other than Xiaomi to announce the Android 14 public beta testing initiative. The company has included 3 devices in the first batch.

Two of these phones are Oppo-branded, while the third one is OnePlus-branded. Let’s go through the details.

Oppo Find X6 Pro (Review)

According to official announcement posts on Oppo and OnePlus community forums, the brands started recruiting Android 14 closed beta testers for three handsets in China yesterday. The registration window closes today itself.

Applicants will be selected within 5 working days from the end of recruitment. Selected candidates will receive the beta software via OTA update within the next 3 working days.

The following devices are currently part of the Android 14-based ColorOS beta program.

Interestingly, the vanilla Oppo Find X6 is not included in the first batch. Similarly, instead of the latest Reno 10 Pro Plus, the Reno 9 Pro is given higher priority.

Though the aforementioned smartphones will be added to the beta program later, it is just weird to not see them in the first batch. Also, Oppo hasn’t officially revealed anything about ColorOS 14 yet.

Since the Android 14 public beta program is now underway, Oppo may start teasing ColorOS 14 features in the coming days. Perhaps, the software could get announced at the Oppo Find N3 launch event later this month.

Tata Motors captures 72% of India’s EV market in H1 2023

India’s electric vehicle (EV) market saw a surge in sales in the first half of 2023, with the number of EVs sold doubling from the previous year. According to data from Canalys, a market research firm, 2 million light vehicles, including passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, were sold in India in the first half of 2023.

This is compared to 1.8 million units sold in the same period in 2022. Of the 2 million vehicles sold in the first half of 2023, 48,000 were EVs which accounts for a share of 2.4%. This represents a 137% year-on-year growth in EV sales.

Tata Motors dominates India’s EV market

Tata Motors dominated India’s electric vehicle market in the first half of 2023, selling 34,000 units and capturing a 72% share. The company’s Tiago, Nexon, and Tigor models were all among the top-selling EVs in India.

MG Motor and Mahindra were the second and third-best-selling EV brands in India, respectively, with 10.8% and 9% market shares. While Tata’s Tiago was the highest-selling EV car in India, followed by the Nexon and the Tigor, the Mahindra XUV400, and the MG ZS were the other two in the top five.

As per Canalys, MG Motors surpassed 10% market share in India’s EV market, largely due to the success of the MG ZS and MG Comet (also known as the MG Air). These two models gained traction in selected markets.

Mahindra also made a significant impact in the market, challenging Tata with its XUV 400. The XUV 400 secured a substantial 9% market share. Likewise, Citroen had a good showing with its eC3 EV, which achieved a 3.5% market share. This is a reflection of the positive market response to more affordable compact EVs.

On the other hand, BYD, a Chinese automaker that began delivering its Atto 3 electric SUV in India in early 2023, had a market share of 2.9% in the first half of the year. BYD had previously aimed to reach 30% of the Indian EV market by 2030, but its US$1 billion investment plan in India was reportedly withdrawn earlier this year amid India’s concerns over Chinese investments.

Hyundai also launched its second EV in India, the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 shares the platform with the Kia EV6. Hyundai also announced that it will launch five EV models in India by 2032. Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car manufacturer, said it will launch its first EV in 2024 and plans to launch six more models by 2030.

“Maruti is late with EVs, but its scale and ambition give it the potential to dramatically expand the size of the Indian EV market,” Canalys said.

“Despite increased competition in 2023, Canalys expects Tata to continue to dominate the market, with the Tiago remaining the most affordable EV in the market,” Ashwin Amberkar, Analyst at Canalys said.
