The company previously announced expectations to launch its first electric motorcycles as production models later in 2023.

The bike will pay homage to the design of the classic Kawasaki Z series

Many enthusiasts and potential customers are curious about the status of the Ninja EV and Z EV. Fortunately, recent government vehicle-type approval documents have offered some insight into the developments. Kawasaki Heavy Industries Limited has successfully secured approval from Australia’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts.

This milestone represents a giant leap for Kawasaki, edging ever closer to the full-fledged production of their maiden electric motorcycles. The bikes’ commercial release, which is seemingly just around the corner, marks an important step for Kawasaki’s ambitious roadmap in the era of electric mobility, reaffirming their commitment to innovation and sustainable transportation. Patreon is Tackling Fraudulent Flags and Payout Issues, Promises a Quick Fix

Following widespread payment rejections experienced by creators and patrons, Patreon today announced that it has rectified the core issue. The crowdfunding platform acknowledged that financial institutions had marked “a slightly higher-than-usual number of patron payments” as fraudulent. It also stated that an unrelated problem had prevented some creators from accessing their funds, which was reportedly due to an update from a partner.

Banks are flagging transactions that deal with Patreon, leading to this issue

Patreon clarified that the issue with fund accessibility affected only “creators utilizing a single payment partner,” identified as Payoneer on its system status page. The company affirmed that it is diligently working with Payoneer to reinstate payouts and anticipates the completion of the process today.

Patreon Announces $30 Million Series B Funding Round ...

This issue came into the limelight after numerous Patreon users reported mass losses of supporters on social media platforms. A notable change in Patreon’s billing information, showing Dublin as the location, led users to believe this was the reason behind banks flagging the transactions. Bestselling author Dr. Brooke Magnanti publicly expressed her dissatisfaction after losing 80% of her patrons.

Meanwhile, Reddit user u/Competitive_Fruit901 revealed a loss of 300 patrons. Fellow Redditor u/Koratl noted that the billing problem was more serious this month and many credit card providers marked Patreon as fraudulent. u/arzen353 highlighted another issue, explaining that patrons couldn’t resubscribe after authorizing payment with their bank and had to wait for Patreon to resolve the situation.

Patreon mentioned to Engadget that the Dublin billing location was likely due to a recent upgrade with a payment processing partner, leading to changes in bank statement descriptors. The company is working closely with the partner to resolve the issue, and does not foresee flagged payments as a long-term problem. As for the timelines and specific steps to deal with flagged transactions, Patreon refrained from providing details until a complete solution is implemented. It also anticipates the payout problem to be resolved today.

DJI is launching the Osmo Action 4 sports action video camera. The Osmo Action 4 is the successor to the DJI Osmo Action 3 and comes with a more expensive price tag. The new DJI sports action camera has a slightly larger image sensor. It also features a few improvements over its predecessor, the Action 3.

DJI Osmo Action 4

DJI continues to serenade its clientele with a raft of impressive offerings and the Osmo Action 4 is no different. DJI says the new camera promises remarkable low-light performance due to the larger 1/1.3-inch sensor. The camera is capable of capturing more light through its ultra-wide lens. The Osmo Action 4 camera can also shoot content in 10-bit D-Log M for a higher dynamic range. This offers greater color correction flexibility when editing. The DJI Osmo Action 4 can be remotely controlled using its GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller. The controller can be strapped to your wrist and provide GPS data as well as recording control. The controller is sold separately from the camera itself.

DJI Osmo Action 4

Both the Action 4 and its predecessor can output 4K videos at up to 120fps. There are a few models however already in the market that supports 5.3K @ 60fps footage like the Hero 11 Black. The built-in GPS advantage of the Go Pro Hero 11 Black camera is seemingly leveled out by the Action 4’s GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller.

The Action 4 also features RockSteady 3.0 Plus digital stabilization system. It also has HorizonSteady which can lock the tilt of a recording to maintain a straight footage. The InvisiStick mode makes the 1.5m selfie stick to be invisible and is upgraded in the Action 4.

DJI Osmo Action 4

The new camera also comes with improved waterproof protection. It can be submerged in water up to 18 meters and it remains compatible with accessories from the older model. The battery of the Action 4 lasts up to 2.5 hours, as with the Action 3, as well as other external similarities.

Pricing & Availability

Microsoft Terminates Cortana App in Windows 11, Shifts Focus to Windows Copilot

Microsoft continues to work on and add new features to Windows 11. But while they are introducing new features, they are also shutting down old and unsuccessful projects. The latest one to get axed is Cortana, the virtual assistant that entered our lives in 2015. Sadly, it has reached the end of its life. Now, Microsoft is killing the standalone Cortana app in Windows 11. Here are the details…

Microsoft Kills Off Cortana App in Windows 11

Actually, this isn’t a new information. Back in June, Microsoft officially announced that it would stop supporting Cortana. However, users could still access the virtual assistant through the app if they wanted to. Now, the company has stopped supporting the Cortana app in Windows 11. The app is getting an update to tell users that it will stop working later this month

Goodbye Cortana

Cortana was not very popular with users, and it was never able to compete with other digital assistants like Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant. Microsoft is replacing Cortana with other AI-powered features in Windows 11, such as Windows Copilot. Windows Copilot is still under development, but it has the potential to be a much more useful and powerful AI assistant than Cortana ever was.

This new AI assistant is currently in preview for Windows 11 Dev Channel Insiders. Copilot is designed to provide real-time assistance, helping users with tasks like writing code, composing emails, and creating presentations. Once activated, Windows Copilot will appear as a panel on the side of the screen. Users can then give commands to the assistant, such as “type ‘hello world’” or “open Microsoft Edge.” The assistant will then take care of the rest, automatically typing or opening the requested item. However, time will tell how successful it will be.

India restricts import of laptops, tablets, servers to boost local industry

The Indian government has implemented restrictions on the import of personal computers, laptops, and related items to promote domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports, particularly from China. The move comes as part of the government’s efforts to bolster the electronics sector and encourage local production through its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

women using laptop

The Vision Behind India’s Self-Reliance in Electronics

The new restrictions require companies to obtain a valid import license for importing laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, and ultrasmall form factor computers. However, individual consumers are exempted from the licensing requirement for single laptop or tablet imports through e-commerce channels.

There are exceptions to the licensing requirement, including imports for research, testing, evaluation, and repair purposes. Laptops and computers used as essential parts of capital goods are also exempt.

This move may impact companies like Apple, Samsung, and Acer, as they might need to increase their manufacturing and assembly operations in India to continue serving the market. Depending on the implementation of licensing norms, there could be price changes for consumers.

The government’s aim is to reduce dependence on a single country (China) for imports and provide secure digital access to India’s growing number of digital citizens. The initiative seeks to boost local industry and make the nation self-reliant and competitive in the global tech market. Industry experts believe that trusted partners will receive valid licenses, ensuring unrestricted access to reliable brands for consumers.

Desperate Attempt: Man Caught Smuggling 68 iPhones Taped to His Body

We all dream of owning the latest technology products at an affordable price, but this isn’t always possible. The different rules and tax systems of various countries can make this especially more difficult. For example, we mentioned a while back that Turkey is selling the most expensive iPhone in the world, and thanks to taxes, was making even more money than Apple. However, such situations equally increase interest in smuggling. Recently, In China, authorities arrested a man who was attempting to smuggle 68 iPhone across the border. Here are the details…

Man’s Odd Walking Raises Customs Officers’ Suspicions, Leading to Discovery of 68 iPhones

Smuggling is a serious issue in every country around the world. Sadly, China is not an exception. Recently, a man attempted to secretly bring 68 used iPhones into the country. According to a report published by the authorities, on the night of July 31st, this man, who was wearing a dark-blue short-sleeved shirt, tried to cross the border. He picked the “No Need to Declare” lane at the border checkpoint.

However, his walking was weird. He was moving in a very stiff and heavy way. This caught the attention of the customs officers, so they stopped him. After checking him carefully, they found something surprising. The man had 68 old iPhones taped around his waist, tummy, and legs. The case is currently being handled further in accordance with the stipulated regulations.

Although this situation quite surprised us, it is not that shocking for the customs officers. The people working there almost encounter similar cases every day. For instance, we previously mentioned the man who was caught trying to enter the country by stuffing 48 CPUs into his shoes. Although we can understand the need to avoid expenses, you should pay your taxes, otherwise, you can be punished by the law.

Foxconn Invests $600 Million, Creates 13,000 New Jobs in India to Expand Production Facilities

If I asked you which country is at the heart of technology, you’d probably say the USA or China. In fact, this answer was correct until recently. However, after the Covid-19 pandemic, another country was added to the list.

Companies, realizing the dangers of relying on a single region for production, started to set up factories in India, which is already a large market for tech giants. One of these companies, Foxconn, has decided to invest $600 million into a phone and chip project in India.

Foxconn’s India Investments Reflect Growing Importance of the India in Global Tech Supply Chain

Foxconn continues to invest in India without slowing down. The company, which has been producing a portion of iPhone and AirPods in the country for some time, is now investing $600 million in India. What’s more, this isn’t just one project, the company has two different projects in mind. The first of these is valued at $360 million and will focus on producing smartphone parts. This single project alone is expected to create 12,000 new jobs in the country.

Foxconn

Also, there’s a second project. Foxconn and Applied Materials are spending $240 million to build a factory for making chip tools, creating 1,000 new jobs. This big investment is part of Foxconn’s plan to spread out its business across the world and make more kinds of products. It also matches India’s goal of bringing more high-tech manufacturing into the country. Foxconn and Applied Materials didn’t provide more details about their projects in India.

However, as we mention above, this is not the first investment for this company in the region. Foxconn previously partnered with an Indian company, Vedanta, to build a chip and display factory in India. But Foxconn left that project last month. We don’t know why the $19.5 billion deal was cancelled. Still, looking at the new investments, we can say that the company’s thoughts about India have not changed and the cancellation did not stem from this.

India’s smartphone market: 3% YoY decline, premium segment soars 112%

India’s smartphone market faced a 3% YoY decline in Q2 2023, but the premium segment (>Rs. 30,000) soared with a remarkable 112% YoY growth, contributing 17% to overall shipments. Samsung retained its lead in the market and surpassed Apple to regain the top spot in the premium segment with a 34% share.

Apple Continues to Dominate Ultra-Premium Category in India

Apple, however, continued to dominate the ultra-premium (>Rs. 45,000) segment with a 59% share, making India one of its top five global markets. Vivo maintained its second position in the overall market and experienced YoY growth, while OPPO excelled in the upper mid-tier range with a 21% market share. OnePlus emerged as the fastest-growing brand in India’s smartphone market with a 68% YoY growth.

The rise of the premiumization trend was fueled by value-based incentives, aggressive promotions, and easy credit availability through financing schemes. 5G smartphone shipments surpassed 100 million cumulative units, growing 59% YoY, driven by expanded 5G networks and affordable devices. Offline channels are gaining ground, and their share is expected to reach 54% by 2023, as brands like Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung, and Apple leverage both online and offline channels for customer engagement.

The market also saw a rise in 4G feature phone shipments, reaching 10% of the overall feature phone market in Q2 2023. This growth was driven by JioBharat and Itel Guru series launches, with the segment projected to reach 18% by the end of 2023.

Overall, while the Indian smartphone market declined slightly, the robust growth of the premium segment and the popularity of 5G devices indicate positive momentum for the industry. Brands are capitalizing on the festive season and 5G upgrades to attract consumers, setting the stage for further developments in the upcoming quarters.
