While the streaming service has declined to comment, sources from Bloomberg reveal that Spotify is in talks with potential partners to make this feature a reality. Although it remains uncertain who would support this new offering and when it might be available, this move could significantly enhance the user experience on the popular music streaming platform.

Currently, Spotify’s video content is limited to podcasts, short storytelling clips, and looping GIFs that accompany songs. Previous attempts by Spotify to incorporate TV content from networks like Comedy Central and ESPN were not successful.

Upcoming Smartphones in July 2023: Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, and more

June was a slow month in terms of smartphone launches. On the other hand, July will be completely opposite.

More than 10 brands have confirmed to release new phones in the next couple of weeks alone. Most of these handsets fall under mid-range and affordable premium categories.

But we will also witness the launch of some foldables and premium phones. The majority of these products will be announced in China with some of them making their debut in multiple international markets.

So it’s not surprising that most of these brands are Chinese, such as iQOO, Red Magic, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Ralme, and Infinix. Anyways, we will also new devices from non-Chinese brands, like Samsung, Motorola, and Nothing.

Upcoming Smartphones in July 2023

1. Motorola Razr 40 Series

As per an accidental promo by Amazon, the Razr 40 Ultra could start at ₹59,999 in India. This price tag may be inclusive of offers.

2. iQOO Neo 7 Pro

The iQOO Neo 7 Pro is scheduled to launch in India on July 4. As the name suggests, it will be a better version of iQOO Neo 7 from earlier this year.

As per teasers and leaks, the device will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, an OIS-assisted 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN5 primary camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 120W fast-wired charging support.

The handset is expected to arrive in 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB memory configurations. It may cost around ₹33,999 inclusive of offers.

3. iQOO 11S

The iQOO 11S will make its debut in China on July 4. It is a mid-year refresh for the iQOO 11 released earlier this year.

The handset will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It will be fitted with a 2K 144Hz Samsung E6 AMOLED display with up to 1800 nits of peak brightness level.

The device will feature an OIS-assisted 50MP Sony IMX866 main camera. Lastly, it will draw energy from a 4,700mAh battery and support 200W fast wired charging.

4. Red Magic 8S Pro

The Red Magic 8S Pro is set to launch in China on July 5. It will go official as the world’s first 24GB RAM smartphone.

The phone will be powered by an overclocked version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 chipset. It will be offered in regular and transparent back options, like its predecessors.

The device will come equipped with an obstruction-free display, courtesy of an under-display camera. Finally, it will be backed by a 6,000mAh battery with support for 165W fast wired charging support.

5. Honor X50

The Honor X50 will be launched in China on July 5. The handset will be almost similar to its predecessor Honor X40.

It is tipped to house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC inside. While the brand has officially confirmed that it will be backed by a 5,800mAh battery.

Other expected features include a 1.5K curved OLED display with high-frequency PWM dimming and a 100MP primary camera. Lastly, it is said to carry support for 35W fast wired charging.

6. OnePlus Nord 3 and Nord CE 3

The OnePlus Nord 3 and OnePlus Nord CE 3 are scheduled to go official in India and other global markets on July 5. The former is a rebranded OnePlus Ace 2V, while the latter is a new product.

The Nord CE 3 is expected to arrive with a 6.72-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 782G SoC, a 50MP main camera, a 16MP front-facing camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 80W fast wired charging support.

As their names suggest, the Nord 3 and Nord CE 3 will succeed the Nord 2T and Nord CE 2. However, it’s not known whether their predecessors will be discontinued.

7. Oppo Reno 10 Series

The Oppo Reno 10 series is expected to release in multiple international markets in July. It will be first announced in Malaysia on July 6.

Just like in China, the global version of the lineup is expected to include three devices. However, the vanilla and pro models will be slightly different from the originals. But the Pro Plus is said to be the same.

All three phones will come with a zoom camera. The Pro Plus will even feature a periscope lens. Finally, they will sport the same design and a curved OLED display.

8. Realme Narzo 60 Series

The Realme Narzo 60 series is planned to launch in India on July 6. The lineup consists of two handsets, namely Realme Narzo 60 and Realme Narzo 60 Pro.

Both these products are rebranded versions of existing Realme number series smartphones. The vanilla model is a rebadged Realme 11, while the pro variant is a renamed Realme 11 Pro.

It is worth noting that the Realme 11 Pro is already available in India under its original name. However, the standard model is yet to debut in the region. The series is expected to start from ₹17,999 inclusive of offers.

9. Honor 90

The Honor 90 will be unveiled for global markets on July 6. The global variant of the device is the same as the original Chinese version.

It is tipped to cost £449.99 for the base 8GB + 256GB memory configuration. The product will be also offered in a higher 12GB + 512GB memory variant.

The phone arrives with a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, a 200MP primary camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 66W fast-wired charging support.

10. Samsung Galaxy M34

The Samsung Galaxy M34 will go official in India on July 7. It is expected to be a watered-down version of Galaxy A34.

Official teasers have revealed that the smartphone will come with a 6.5-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, an OIS-assisted 50MP rear camera, a 16MP selfie camera, and a 6,000mAh battery. It will have the new universal design adopted by Samsung for its handsets.

Last but not least, the device is expected to house an Exynos 1280 SoC underneath it.

The Nothing Phone 2 will be made official on July 11. It will be announced in India and Europe.

As per teasers, the smartphone may retain the design of its forerunner with some tweaks. However, it will be more powerful, thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip under its hood.

Other expected specs of the product include a centered punch-hole OLED display, Glyph interface, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, and a 4,700mAh battery.

12. Honor Magic V2

The Honor Magic V2 horizontal foldable smartphone is confirmed to go official on July 12. Interestingly, though we are only a few days away from the announcement, not much is known about this product.

Rumors suggest that there will be two variants featuring a custom 2K LTPO display. The regular model will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, while the  Ultimate edition will house a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

13. Oppo A78 4G and Oppo K11

Oppo is expected to unveil Oppo A78 4G and Oppo K11 in the next few days. As per leaks, the former is a 4GB variant of Oppo A78 5G, while the latter is the Chinese version of the OnePlus Nord CE 3.

The Oppo A78 4G is tipped to arrive with a 6.43-inch 90Hz OLED display, dual stereo speakers, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chip, a 50MP rear camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 67W fast wired charging support.

On the other hand, the Oppo K11 is expected to come with the same specs as Nord CE 3 discussed earlier.

14. Vivo V29 Series and Vivo Y27 5G

Whereas, the Vivo V29 lineup will include Vivo V29 and Vivo V29 Pro. The vanilla model will likely be similar to the Vivo S17, while the pro model will differ from S17 Pro.

15. Infinix Zero 30 5G

The Defy Satellite Link comes bundled with the Essential Messaging plan the offers up to 30 two-way messages sent via satellite every month. There are other plans with the top one offering up to 400 messages each month.

Google plans to block Canadian news on its platform over new law on paying publishers

Google has announced that it will block Canadian news on its platform to avoid paying news publishers according to a new Canadian law. The search engine giant is joining Facebook in expanding a campaign against the law requiring payment to local news publishers.

Google will remove links to Canadian news from search results and other products in Canada at the commencement of the implementation of the law. The new law is scheduled to kick in by January 2024 and Facebook has made a similar announcement.

The new law is Bill C-18 which is termed the Online News Act. The law is aimed at protecting local news originators who have suffered losses in the years when Facebook and Google accounted for a greater share of the online advertising market. It is estimated that news businesses in Canada could receive up to $250 million per year under the new legislation.

The implementation of the new legislation still offers some thorny areas. Google and Facebook have no obligations immediately under the act. The Canadian government says it is open to consultation with the two media giants on regulatory and implementation challenges. However, Google and Facebook maintain that the proposals were harmful to their businesses, leading to their planned exclusion of Canadian news content from their platforms. The Canadian government however insists on the full implementation of the law. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the companies of using bullying tactics to get the law overturned.

The law stipulates online platforms to negotiate with news publishers and pay for their content. A similar law passed in Australia in 2021 prompted a similar response from Google and Facebook. It is possible that a compromise could be reached between the government and the companies, as was the case in Australia.

Foxconn receives approval for $246 million investment in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province

Redmi has launched several new phones recently, including the Redmi 12 in Thailand and the Note 12R in China. The company is soon expected to unveil the K60 Ultra in its home country with a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ processor. In the midst of all this, a new Redmi smartphone has been spotted online on the IMDA website, hinting at a nearby launch.

Redmi may soon bring a new smartphone to the global market. While we don’t know the name yet, a device with model number 23076RN8DY has been spotted on the IMDA website by tipster Mukul Sharma. This phone is listed to support 5G connectivity and NFC. Other details of the smartphone, including its marketing name, are still anyone’s guess.

There’s no official launch date yet but the “2307” in the phone’s model number hints it will debut in July this year. We are yet to get an official confirmation of any sort.

As mentioned, Xiaomi is gearing up to unveil the Redmi K60 Ultra in China. The handset should launch in the coming days with a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ processor. It should have a metal frame, a 50-megapixel primary rear camera lens, and a built-in 5000mAh battery.

The Google fact checking tool has just been updated which has made it even more useful. The company’s tool can now fact check images as well, with the functionality currently being live in a global beta.

Since its conception, the Search Engine giant’s fact checking tool has already helped many. Now, people can even scrutinize a picture found online as well. To use this tool, one simply requires the image itself that they can upload or copy and paste the URL and click on the search image option on the right corner of the search bar. After this, the fact checker tool kicks in, providing key details and references of this image from all across the internet. Notably, this announcement also arrives a couple of days after the brand’s researchers introduced a new language model dubbed the AudioPaLM.

Furthermore, the beta tool can also offer details about topics and locations that are related to the image being searched. This, in turn, help make the process much fast as well. As per official notes, Google’s new tool can find out if an image is being used in the wrong context. In other words, it can find out if someone is manipulating the truth by using an image to spread misinformation.

Apart from this, the Fact Check Explorer will one to trace the origin of the image as well as its original context. The government announced that new controls on ASML, the world’s sole provider of advanced lithography equipment for cutting-edge chips, will take effect on September 1. ASML is already prohibited from selling its most advanced technology, EUV lithography machines, to Chinese clients. The forthcoming controls will extend the restrictions to ASML’s second most powerful line, DUV machines, requiring a special license for sales in China. By imposing stricter controls, the Netherlands aims to curtail certain equipment exports to China.

The US is poised to adopt a comprehensive approach, imposing licensing requirements for the export of equipment to around six Chinese facilities, including a fab operated by SMIC, a prominent semiconductor manufacturer in China. This move, part of the ongoing US-China tech war, aims to restrict specific equipment not only from ASML and other Dutch companies but also to exert control over additional Dutch equipment destined for targeted Chinese wafer fabs.

The US government is set to release a list of the six semiconductor factories, which includes China’s largest chipmaker SMIC, where ASML will be required to obtain licenses for deploying DUV (Deep Ultraviolet) equipment. However, according to Reuters, it is expected that requests for equipment licensing to these facilities will likely be denied on security grounds.

These measures reflect an escalating effort by the US and the Netherlands to curb China’s technological advancements in the semiconductor industry. By tightening export controls, the two countries aim to safeguard their strategic interests and protect sensitive technologies from reaching Chinese companies operating in the semiconductor sector.

Apparently, the development plans for new the titles for the upcoming Switch 2 model is thanks to the handheld console being ‘closer’ in performance to Gen8 platforms.

The 8th Gen consoles are basically the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In terms of raw performance, these consoles operated within a performance range of between 1.3 TFLOPS and 1.84 TFLOPS (FP32) and featured 8GB of RAM. However, the next gen Switch console can possibly output up to 4 TFLOPS from its new Nvidia Tegra T239 processor. This chipset is the customized variant of the Tegra T234 chip that features Team Green’s Ampere architecture and 2,048 CUDA cores.

If this rumor is true, then the Switch 2 could possibly offer around 10 times the power of its predecessor. While this is a huge jump over two generations, Nintendo hadn’t updated its Switch series in years, except a Lite model and an OLED refresh.
