Samsung Loses Ground to Apple in Global Tablet Race

The competition in consumer electronics is going strong. Many brands, such as Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo, are fiercely competing to reach more users with smartphones and similar products. Of course, for us technology enthusiasts, watching this race is quite enjoyable. The International Data Corporation (IDC), which frequently prepares reports measuring market competition, recently published a report on global tablet shipments for the first quarter of 2023. According to this, Apple has once again left Samsung behind in the competition. Here are the details…

Global Tablet Shipments Drop by 19.1% in Q1 2023

IDC, worldwide tablet shipments experienced a significant 19.1% (YoY) decline in Q1 2023, amounting to 30.7 million units. This reduction harks back to pre-pandemic levels, mirroring the shipment volumes of 30.1 million units in Q1 2019 and 31.6 million in Q1 2018.

Global Tablet Shipments Q1 2023:

All leading tablet vendors experienced a decline in Q1 2023. Apple and Samsung maintained their dominance, accounting for nearly 58% of the tablet market. Huawei climbed to third place, while Lenovo and Amazon ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. The reason for this sharp decline in almost all products is quite clear. As of 2023, the Covid-19 pandemic ended, and life returned to normal worldwide.

As practices like working from home and online education decreased, consumer frenzy also slowed down somewhat. Another reason is the increasing inflation and economic difficulties worldwide. Nonetheless, experts remain hopeful about the future of the tablet market.

Jitesh Ubrani, a research manager at IDC’s Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers, remains optimistic despite the downturn in tablet shipments. He notes the increasing interest from vendors, particularly Google’s re-entry, which could potentially enhance Android’s tablet experience and integrate tablets into smart home systems.

iPhone 15 Pro Max leaks suggest the thinnest bezels yet

Rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max continue to circulate online, with leaks suggesting that the device could feature the thinnest bezels yet seen on an iPhone. According to Ice Universe, a well-known leaker with a proven track record of accurate predictions, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s bezels are expected to be thinner than those found on the current iPhone 14 Pro Max, as well as Xiaomi 13, which currently holds the record for the thinnest bezels at just 1.81mm.

iPhone 15 Pro Max to Feature Curved Bezels for Apple Watch Look

iPhone-15-render

Ice Universe has posted an image of an iPhone 15 Pro Max screen protector, alongside a render of what the device would look like, both of which suggest that the phone will have beautiful, thin bezels. The new device will feature curved bezels for an Apple Watch-like look, a claim that was previously made by reliable leaker ShrimpApplePro.

While thin bezels alone may not make a phone a top flagship, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to feature several other improvements over its predecessor. Rumors suggest that the device will feature a larger 48MP main camera, which could outshine even the best Android camera phones on the market. Additionally, the Pro Max is highly likely to include a periscope camera, which would provide users with even more advanced camera capabilities.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are also rumored to feature a new chipset, with some reports suggesting that the devices could use Apple’s upcoming A17 chip. The phones are also expected to switch from the traditional mute switch to a programmable action button. In terms of design, the Pro models could feature a titanium frame and be slightly less wide and tall than their predecessors, but 5% thicker. However, this reduced thickness could result in a less protrusive camera setup.

Unfortunately, rumors that the phones would feature solid-state volume and power buttons have been dispelled due to higher costs and manufacturing complexity. iPhone 15 series is expected to be announced in September.

The pre-order period for the Pixel 7a is expected to run from May 10 to May 22, coinciding with Google’s I/O 2023 keynote. However, it’s likely that pre-order shipments won’t begin until at least the fourth week of May. The Pixel 7a has already been the subject of a teardown by PBKreviews, and someone else has shared a detailed hands-on preview of the device.

If you’re looking to get your hands on the Pixel 7a in Europe, it seems like the pre-order period will be the best time to do so. With the added bonus of a pair of Pixel Buds A-Series earbuds, the €509 price tag may be more palatable for those on a budget. It remains to be seen if Google will offer similar pre-order bonuses in other markets, but it’s certainly a possibility.

Now, the latest info arrives from official teasers, which have revealed some key specs of the Realme 11 Pro+. So let’s have a look.

Realme 11 Pro+ to feature 5,000mAh battery with impressive 100W fast charging

The Chinese smartphone maker is set to launch the new smartphones in China on Wednesday (10th May 2023). The Realme 11 Pro+ is the top end model and the latest teaser has confirmed previous rumors regarding its battery capacity. In other words, it will be powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack, which is the same capacity rating as its predecessor, the Realme 10 Pro+. This battery will even support an impressive 100W fast charging, which is noticeably higher than the 67W fast charging on the 10 series model.

Realme

Apart from this, the only other information revealed on the teaser poster image was that the handset weighs just 183 grams. The Realme 10 Pro+ model could charge from 0 to 17 percent in 17 minutes from its 67W fast charging technology, so we can expect the time to fall even lower on its successor. Talking about its other features, it sports a tall 6.7 inch AMOLED display that supports 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the 11 Pro+ model will be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC that is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The rear features a 200 megapixel triple camera setup, while the front houses a 16 megapixel selfie shooter. The device will likely run on Android 13 OS out of the box, so stick around for more as we will be covering the launch event later this week.

BYD Accelerates Expansion in Southeast Asia with New Investment Plans

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is stepping up its overseas supply chain strategy, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. The company recently met with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chen Honghe, to discuss expanding its manufacturing and investment in Phu Tho Province, Vietnam.

BYD is looking to Expand its Manufacturing into Southeast Asia

During the meeting, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu outlined the company’s plans to expand its electric vehicle manufacturing and assembly operations into Southeast Asia. He expressed hope that the local government would help facilitate the necessary investment permits and put the project into operation as soon as possible.

BYD

This move comes on the back of reports earlier this year that BYD was planning to invest over $250 million in Vietnam to build a new energy vehicle parts factory. In addition, the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia are reportedly competing to attract BYD to build an electric vehicle assembly plant in their respective countries.

BYD is one of the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturers, with a presence in over 300 cities globally. The company has long been committed to advancing sustainable transportation and has invested heavily in research and development to improve the performance and efficiency of its vehicles.

In recent years, BYD has been expanding its presence in overseas markets, including Europe and the United States, and has partnerships with major automakers like Toyota and Daimler. The company’s focus on Southeast Asia reflects the region’s growing demand for electric vehicles, driven by a combination of government incentives, rising oil prices, and a growing awareness of the environmental benefits of EVs.

As BYD continues to expand its global reach, its commitment to sustainable development and cutting-edge technology will play a crucial role in driving the transition to a more sustainable transportation system. The company’s upcoming SUV, YangWang U8 was recently spotted out in the wild. With Southeast Asia poised for rapid growth in the EV market, BYD’s investments in the region could help accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.

Twitter Circle Tweets were Shown Publicly to Users Outside the Circle

Twitter, the social media giant, recently disclosed a security incident that caused private tweets sent to Twitter Circles to be shown publicly to users outside of the Circle. This incident took place in April 2023, and the company has since conducted a thorough investigation to understand how it occurred and has addressed the issue. Twitter also apologized to impacted users and expressed its commitment to protecting their privacy.

Twitter Circle was Introduced back in August 2022

Twitter Circle, a feature introduced in August 2022, allows users to send tweets to a small group of people while promising to keep them private from the public. Users select who is in their Twitter Circle, and only the people added to the Circle can reply to and interact with the tweets shared within it.

Twitter

However, in early April, Twitter users started warning that tweets sent to Twitter Circles were being displayed publicly to people outside of the Circle in their timelines. Twitter has now confirmed that this was caused by a security incident that allowed users outside of the Circle to see tweets that should have been limited to the Circle to which the post was made.

Twitter did not disclose the cause of the security incident, but many changes have taken place on the platform since Elon Musk took ownership. These changes revolved around increasing the exposure of tweets via Twitter’s recommendation algorithm, which Musk said in late March would be updated every 28 to 48 hours.

Twitter’s swift action to investigate and fix the issue shows its commitment to protecting its users’ privacy. However, this incident highlights the risks that social media platforms pose in terms of privacy breaches. Users must be cautious when sharing sensitive information on social media and always be aware of the platform’s privacy settings.

Twitter’s security incident involving Twitter Circle tweets is a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity on social media platforms. Users must take precautions to protect their privacy online and be aware of the risks that come with sharing personal information on these platforms. Twitter’s commitment to protecting user privacy is appreciated, but more must be done to ensure that incidents like this do not happen in the future. Recently, the company announced that it will let government services use its API for free as well.
