Honor has unveiled the Honor X50i smartphone in China. It is the successor to the Dimensity 700-powered Honor X40i, which was announced in July 2022. The X50i features the latest Dimensity 6000-series chipset, a 90Hz display, up to 256 GB of storage, and 100-megapixel dual rear cameras. Honor X50i specifications and features

The Honor X50i features a 6.73-inch IPS LCD panel with a centrally positioned punch-hole. The display will support a Full HD+ resolution of 2388 x 1080 pixels a refresh rate of 90Hz, and a 93.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. The device is equipped with a side-facing fingerprint scanner for security.

The X50i is powered by the Dimensity 6020 chipset. It comes with up to 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, up to 7 GB of virtual RAM, and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The smartphone packs a 4,500mAh battery that supports 35W fast charging.

For photography enthusiasts, the Honor X50i will feature an 8-megapixel camera on the front and a 100-megapixel (primary) + 2-megapixel (depth) dual-camera system along with a triple LED flash on the back. The smartphone comes preloaded with Android 13 OS and the latest Magic UI 6.1. Lastly, the device measures 7.48mm in thickness and weighs 179 grams.

Honor X50i price and availability

The Honor X50i comes in two configurations, such as 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. These variants are priced at 1,499 Yuan (~$217) and 1,699 Yuan (~$247). It comes in four colors, such as black, green, white, and pink. There is no word on the global release of the device.

Xiaomi has partnered with Kinbor to bring a refreshed version of the Inkpalm Mini 2. Kinbor is a digital stationery company and the new model comes with significant improvements over the first-generation Inkpalm Mini 2. Although the hardware is retained, the new Mini 2 comes with some additional functionality and features.

The extras in the new Inkpalm Mini 2 include a luggage tag, stickers with an owl reading books, and a durable traveling pouch that can be attached to your shoulder with a shoulder harness. The traveling pouch is made of super high-grade plastic and the extras also include a ledger with a pen for taking notes or drawing.

As per its hardware, the Inkpalm Mini 2 has a 5.2-inch E INK Carta HD e-paper screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. This translates into a pixel density of 284 ppi and the mini e-reader runs on Android 8.1. Users can install third-party apps of their choice on the Inkpalm Mini 2. The apps can be updated via F-Droid or Amazon App Store. There is also a dedicated e-reading app that can help you read ebooks in English but the Inkpalm Mini 2 is based in Chinese.

The Xiaomi Inkpalm Mini 2 has 24 white and amber LED lights for reading seamlessly in different lighting situations including at night. It weighs 115g and is very convenient to carry around. It has a quad-core 1.8GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The gadget is powered by a 1,400mAh battery which is charged via its USB-C port. The Inkpalm Mini 2 has both Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi connectivity while power and volume buttons are on the side.

The InkPalm Mini 2 is the smallest e-reader in the market but it remains to be seen the kind of reception it will get. It is available in limited quantity and can be ordered via the Good e-Reader store for $249.99.

In March this year, Xiaomi announced the MIJIA Smart Skipping Rope under crowdfunding. The device is Xiaomi’s first-ever smart skipping rope and it offers a cordless and corded mode of operation. The MIJIA Smart Skipping Rope is now on open sale in China and is priced at 109 yuan ($16) which is a slight bump form the 95 yuan ($14) crowdfunding price tag.

To recall, the MIJIA Smart Skipping rope comes in corded and cordless modes. The cordless mode can be used indoors via an air ball while the corded mode includes a 3-meter adjustable sports rope. The sporting gadget features three sets of in-built sensors that assists in the accurate collection of the exercise session data. The sensors provide 360-degree multi-point monitoring and integrate with the precision counting algorithm. The algorithm can track the movement state and accurately filter invalid jumps, as well as avoid misjudgment of missed records. It also provides monthly and annual sports analysis reports for a holistic view of the exercise over an extended period.

A few days ago, Xiaomi officially launched its latest flagship smartphone in its home country, dubbed Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Now, the phone is available for purchase in the Chinese market.

The smartphone comes in three configurations — 12GB + 128GB, 16GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 1TB, costing 5,999 yuan (~$873), 6,499 yuan (~$945), and 7,299 yuan (~$1,062), respectively.

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone features a 6.73-inch 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED display, offering a 1,440p screen resolution and a maximum peak brightness of 2,600 nits, making it the brightest display so far.

Under the hood, the device comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage.

The smartphone features Leica Vario-Summicron lens on the back. There’s a 1-inch 50MP Sony IMX989 primary camera sensor, which also supports variable aperture between f/1.9 and f/4.0. There’s also a 50MP Sony IMX858 f/1.8 ultrawide sensor with a 122-degree FOV, along with a pair of 50MP Sony IMX858 telephoto lens. It also has a 32MP front-facing snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

For example, 45% of users aged 18 to 24 had their previous phone for less than two years, which is over three times the rate of those aged 65 and older. 65% of customers aged 65 or older kept their previous phone for at least three years, a figure more than 2.5 times greater than the percentage observed in the 18 to 24 age group.

CIRP’s study also found that 40% to 45% of consumers between 18 to 54 years of age retired a phone that was under two years old, and 21% to 27% of consumers aged 55 or older gave up a phone they held for three years or longer. In fact, this situation is not too surprising. As many of us know from personal experience and observing our close circles, young people spend more time on their smartphones. Every day, millions of people consume and create content on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

These trends, along with many others, push young people to change their phones even when they might not need to. Brands, aware of this, target young users with their advertising. Another possible reason is the interest many young people, including the editor who wrote this news and the readers, have in technology. However, it wouldn’t be accurate to say we are solely responsible for driving up these numbers.

At the Next@Acer 2023 event, the Taiwanese PC maker announced its latest premium convertible ChromeOS-powered laptop. Officially called the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 2023 arrives with multiple upgrades over the 2022 model.

First and foremost, the notebook is powered by 13th Gen Intel U series processors. It can be availed in either Core i3, i5, or i7 variants.

The processors are paired with either 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB LPDDR4X RAM. Whereas, on the storage front, it uses a 128GB PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD or 256GB / 512GB / 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD.

Further, the laptop comes with a QHD (2K) webcam, which is a first for an Acer Chromebook, The device also offers a fingerprint sensor that was not available on its predecessor.

The notebook sports a 14-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (WUXGA) and 340 nits peak brightness level. The 360° touch screen panel has a 16:10 aspect ratio and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. It also supports USI stylus input.

The product is MIL-STD 810H-certified for durability. It houses dual upward-firing stereo speakers and dual microphones. Its connectivity options include WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 2 x USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4, 1 x USB Type-A, an HMDI, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Last but not least, the device weighs about 1.37kg and it is backed by a 56 Wh battery, which is rated to last for up to 10 hours.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 2023 will be available in North America from May starting at $699. On the other hand, it will cost €999 in EMEA and will go on sale in this region in July.

Tianma supplies display panels for Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and Xiaomi Pad 6 series

Earlier this week, Xiaomi unveiled its most anticipated smartphone — Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Alongside this phone, the company also announced a bunch of other products.

Some of these devices are Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and Xiaomi Pad 6 series. The company’s eighth-gen fitness tracker arrives with an OLED panel, whereas its sixth-gen tablets sport an LCD screen.

However, the supplier of these displays is one and the same. The said supplier has formally announced it, following the launch of these products.

According to ITHome, Tianma has officially revealed that it is the supplier of OLED displays for the Xiaomi Smart Band 8. This rounded rectangular screen measures 1.62 inches diagonally.

The panel comes with a 326 PPI and a 60Hz refresh rate. Hence, it is sharp as well as smooth. The display supports up to 600 nits peak brightness level, AOD (Always-on Display), and it is accompanied by an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness.

Similarly, Tianma is also supplying the LCD panels for the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro. For the unaware, Xiaomi also sources panels from TCL CSOT for its latest tablets.

These tablets are equipped with the same display. Their 11-inch screen offers a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, 10-bit color depth, 309 PPI, and a 144Hz refresh rate. This 16:10 panel supports up to 240Hz touch sampling rate, 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, 550 nits peak brightness level, stylus input, HDR10, and Dolby Vision.

Both the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and Xiaomi Pad 6 series are expected to release outside mainland China in the coming weeks.

Geely’s Geometry has launched the Panda Mini W.T. Duck limited edition at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. The model is a limited edition of the Panda Mini that was launched in December 2022. The limited edition Panda Mini is available in two versions Happy and Lucky, priced at 53,900 yuan ($7,842) and 56,900 yuan ($8,279).

The EV is based on the ordinary version of the Panda Mini and incorporates a lot of W.T Duck IP elements into its design as well as the yellow color scheme. The interior also has some enhancement in line with the W.T. Duck theme.

As a reminder, the Panda Mini is a two-door, four-seat city vehicle with a length of 3,065mm. It can be easily parked even in very tight spaces. The car is equipped with a panoramic glass roof with several warm color options that accentuate the panda-like look. The wheels are designed to bear a semblance to the panda’s paw prints and its front bumper reflects this. There is a trim at the bottom of the front bumper that looks like a panda’s ears. The round headlights and taillights bear a semblance to the panda’s eyes. The mini EV packs an 8-inch central control screen as well as a wireless mobile phone interconnection system.

In terms of power, the Panda Mini EV is equipped with a 30kW electric motor and a LFP battery manufactured by Guoxuan Hi-Tech. The range of the EV is 150km which is decent for daily city commutes and even inter-city one-way movements. The W.T Duck model is even said to have up to 200km range. It also supports 22kW DC fast charging which can fully charge the battery in just 68 minutes.

The outburst of these pre-orders could be credited to the impressive spec sheet and the mind-blowing price-to-performance ratio of the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro starts at 2499 yuan ($363) for the base model, however, its top configuration is up for pre-order at 3399 yuan ($494). TCL has unveiled the S642W and S643W soundbars with some impressive features. The new TCL S64 series soundbars also come with an affordable price tag. Interestingly, the new TCL soundbars won a 2023 Red Dot design award for their innovations. Both models support Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual X.

The TCL S642W is a 2.1Ch and the S643 a 3.1Ch model, with both featuring a wireless subwoofer. The new TCL S64 series Home Theatre Soundbar range also feature HDMI 1.4 ARC port. The Bass Boost feature on both models makes for a more immersive sound. There are six specialized settings that the user can choose from to suit their sound needs. These include movie, game, and standard modes. The gadget supports Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity and the device can be controlled using a voice assistant.

The TCL S642W has dual speakers and a total output of 200W and is accompanied by a 60W wireless subwoofer. The TCL S643W soundbar has three full-range speakers and a total output of 240W. This is further accentuated by a wireless 70W subwoofer while speech-enhancing technology helps to deliver greater clarity. The new TCL soundbars are compatible with the latest TCL TVs like the C34, C64, and C74.

As per pricing, the TCL S642W soundbar will retail in Europe for €150 (165) while the S643W will be priced at €180 ($198). TCL is still keeping under wraps the exact release date for the TCL S64 range of soundbars. There are no further global availability details yet for the models.

Realme 11 Pro+ could get a dedicated Mode for Moon Photography

Realme plans to unveil its latest number series next month and the Realme 11 Pro+ will be leading the pack. Although the handset will debut as a mid-ranger, it will bring some notable features, including a Dimensity 7-series chipset, 100W fast charging, and an AMOLED display with high-frequency dimming. Its cameras are also going to be impressive, so much so that, it will get a dedicated mode clicking stunning moon shots.

Lunar photography with Realme 11 Pro+

Realme China Marketing Director Jessie recently shared an image of the moon captured by the Realme 11 Pro+ on Weibo. As you’d see in the image below, the handset managed to capture a decent-looking shot of the moon, suggesting it features a dedicated telephoto sensor. Rumors point to an 8MP telephoto unit and a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor.

It should mean that the upcoming Realme 11 Pro+ will get a Moon Mode that will allow users to click pictures of the moon with significant details. The brand could be using some AI-based scene optimization technology to recognize the moon and produce high-quality images with good details.

Previous reports suggest the Realme 11 Pro+ will sport a tall 6.7-inch AMOLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 2160Hz PWM high-frequency dimming. Under the hood, it may be powered by a Dimensity 7-series processor complete with up to 16GB of RAM and up to a massive 1TB of onboard storage.

Powered by a 5,000mAh battery, the device will likely carry support for 100W fast charging. The Realme 11 Pro+ will is reported to be joined by the Realme 11 Pro and possibly a vanilla Realme 11.

Ediifier has launched the M330 Bluetooth Speaker in China. The Edifier M330 is an all-in-one Bluetooth speaker that has the hi-res gold standard specification. The retro-styled new Edifier speaker uses engraved piano keys and comes with a three-dimensional woven mesh. The speaker’s color scheme is reminiscent of the classic colors of the earliest speakers. The Edifier M330 speaker sports a brown classical color.

The Edifier M330 Bluetooth speaker uses a composite wool basin and 2.1 acoustic system The acoustics are formed by two 1-inch silk film tweeters and a 4-inch composite wool basin mid-bass unit. The speaker is housed inside a 12mm-thick high-strength MDF construction box. The speaker offers Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and the gadget can be controlled through its companion mobile phone app.

The Edifier M330 has a built-in 7.4V 5,200mAh batteries that provide up to 12 hours of usage. The speaker can be used to charge other devices, as it supports reverse charging. The M330 has two class D power amplifiers with 0.03% total harmonic distortion plus noise. It delivers a 107dB signal-to-noise ratio and a 45W (RMS) output.

The Edifier M330 Bluetooth speaker is equipped with LDAC high-definition codec technology, wired/ wireless Hi-Res double gold standard certification, and a sampling rate of 96kHz. The device has a maximum transmission rate of 990kbps. The gadget is available on retail platforms in China including JD.com. The launch price of the Edifier M330 Bluetooth speaker is 899 yuan (~$131). There are no details yet on the global availability of the new Edifier retro-styled Bluetooth speaker.

Apple Beats Studio Buds+ could Launch Soon as they get IMDA certified

Apple is working on new Beat earbuds and traces of the same were found in iOS 16.4 Release Candidate last month. The earbuds are expected to be called the Beats Studio Buds+ and they’ll likely arrive as an upgrade over the original Studio Buds that were launched in 2021. While there’s no official announcement yet, the earbuds have received the IMDA certification, suggesting they are a step closer to the launch.

Beats Studio Buds+ early details

The latest IMDA listing of the hearables does not reveal anything peculiar about the earbuds. The Indonesian authority lists the Beats Studio Buds+ with model numbers A2872 and A2871 and that’s about all the details we get from the listing. They were recently spotted on the FCC website as well but no interesting revelations were made from there as well.

Luckily, the earbuds appeared on IOS 16.4 Release Candidate last month with some key specifications. It was discovered that Studio Buds+ will get an Apple chip underneath, unlike the original Studio Buds that feature a proprietary Beats chip. The new chip will apparently open doors for new features like audio sharing, auto device switching, and voice commands via “Hey Siri.”

You can expect them to offer standard features like active noise cancellation and transparency mode. A leaked image of the Beats earbuds reveals they will have media controls for play/pause and also the option to press and hold to switch between noise-canceling modes. The TWS can be seen in a new black color with gold details, but the rest of the design remains essentially the same as its predecessor. Other specifications are yet to be known. We hope to learn more in the coming days.
