iPhone 15 Pro models will reportedly come with solid-state power and volume buttons

It’s barely a few months after the launch of the iPhone 14 series in September. Rumours about the next-generation iPhone 15 lineup have already started surfacing on the web. Now, reliable Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared new information on the high-end iPhone 15 models.

As per Kuo, Apple will introduce solid-state power and volume rocker buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. This means that the Cupertino-based tech giant will reportedly ditch the clickable switches. To make it simpler, the current-generation iPhones feature a physical/mechanical button design. The solid-state button design is similar to the home button design on the iPhone 7, 8, and even the SE 2 and SE 3.

The solid-state buttons make users feel like they are pressing physical buttons by offering haptic feedback to confirm presses. In reality, the buttons don’t actually sink in physically. The design change is only expected to be on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. For this, the smartphones will be equipped with Taptic Engines on the internal left and right sides This means that the next-generation Apple flagships could come with three taptic engines in addition to the existing vibration motor. Removing the physical power and volume buttons will also aid in removing two additional ingress points for water and dust, thereby creating a more durable phone.

Kuo adds that high-end Android OEMs are expected to adopt Apple’s solid-state button design to create a new selling point.

As per past reports, Apple has complied with the EU law that requires phone manufacturers to use USB-C ports. This potentially suggests that the iPhone 15 will ditch the lightning port in favour of a USB-C connection. Regardless, buttonless design and a USB-C port seem to be a major highlights for the next-generation iPhones.

Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition is finally confirmed

Over the last couple of months, the news regarding Twitter being bought up by known billionaire Elon Musk has been on and off. However, it seems like the massive multi billion dollar deal has finally been confirmed.

Elon Musk

For those unaware, Musk had first announced the 44 billion US Dollars acquisition deal earlier this year. However, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla had soon backed out of the deal owing to complications related to transparency in business operations. This then led to lawsuits being filed against the billionaire. But recently, it seemed that things finally worked out and the deal was back on track. Now, Elon Musk has officially confirmed this deal.

But according to a Bloomberg report, CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde and General Counsel Sean Edgett were some of the executives that were laid off following this acquisition. Furthermore, Edgett was reportedly escorted from Twitter’s head office. In other words, it might seem that Musk still has friction over the legal actions that were tanked against him months prior.

Musk even took to Twitter to officially confirm this announcement with a short video of him entering the Twitter headquarters. He stated that “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

DJI may launch the new Mavic 3 Classic Drone on November 2

DJI is apparently gearing up to launch a new drone from its popular Mavic series soon. The company has announced that the upcoming Mavic 3 Classic drone will be unveiled on the 2nd of November 2022. So here’s what we know so far.

As per an official teaser trailer, the Chinese drone maker is set to announce the new Mavic 3 Classic on November 2. The upcoming drone in question is believed to be from the Mavic series due to the camera lens that was seen in the recently shared teaser. The sensor looks nearly identical to the Hasselblad camera on the DJI Mavic 3. Although, this model lacked branding and a telephoto lens. But it appears that the cheaper version of its Mavic 3 drone might be the Classic, which would go official on the ‘Explore Vivid’ event next month.

DJI

Furthermore, the new drone also looks similar to the recent image leaks of the Mavic 3 Classic, which were shared by WinFuture. Apart from this, the Mavic 3 Drone had also passed through the FCC certification website as well previously. If the brand decides to launch the Mavic 3 Classic at an aggressive price, we can expect it to be quite an attractive option that might also compete with the company’s existing Mini 3 series of drones.

As of right now, it is unclear just how much the Mavic 3 Classic will cost. Although, we can expect this model to retail somewhere around the 1,400 US Dollars mark. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation so take this with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates.

Global smartphone shipments fall in Q3 2022; only Apple grows year-on-year

Multiple international market research firms Counterpoint Research, International Data Corporation (IDC), and Canalys have revealed the results of the global smartphone shipments during the third quarter of 2022. Q3, 2022 is the period between the month of July to September. OEMs sold 301.9 million units compared to 342 million during the same period last year. Counterpoint Research reveals a 12 percent decline whereas IDC and Canalys represent a figure of 9 percent.

The global smartphone shipments in the third quarter improved compared to the last quarter i.e. Q2, where shipments slipped below the 300 million mark. The market is said to be at the lowest Q3 level since 2014. All three research firms attribute the downfall in shipments to the Russia-Ukraine war, China-US tensions, growing inflation and fear of recession, and weakening national currencies leading to a dent in consumer sentiment. Shipments across Europe and Asia Pacific performed better while emerging markets remained laggards.

As for the OEM performance, Apple was the only company to register a 2 percent year-on-year growth. In Q3, 2022 the Cupertino-based tech giant had a 17 percent market share with 51.9 million shipments. South Korean major Samsung lead the Q3 market with 64 million sales and 21 percent share, however, it declined 8 percent YoY basis. Xiaomi came in third with a 13.4 percent share and 40.5 million shipments. It fell 8.6 percent year-on-year. Vivo and OPPO bagged the fourth spot with 25.9 million sales and 8.6 percent market share. Both companies recorded double-digit declines of 26.3 percent. Chinese brands were able to capitalise on Apple and Samsung’s exit from the Russian market. It’s worth noting that all five OEMs registered positive growth quarter-on-quarter basis.

Upcoming Smartphone: Huawei P50 Pocket S

Unlike the last few weeks, there won’t be multiple smartphone launches the next week. As of writing this article, only one company has confirmed a new phone announcement in the next few days.

The firm we are describing is Huawei. The former world’s largest smartphone brand has scheduled to debut its first watered-down foldable smartphone on November 2.

This device is officially called Huawei P50 Pocket S. As the name suggests, it will be a cheaper variant of the existing Huawei P50 Pocket.

For the unaware, the P50 Pocket is Huawei’s first vertical (aka clamshell) foldable smartphone. It was announced in late December 2021.

Instead of debuting a successor almost a year later, the company is about to introduce an affordable version. Let’s check out what this handset will offer.

Upcoming Smartphone Next Week

Huawei P50 Pocket S

The Huawei P50 Pocket S is in the news for the last few weeks. However, its November 2 launch date was only confirmed recently by the firm.

Further, it is said to lack an external display on the back. But it will retain the 120Hz refresh rate for its foldable display from the expensive model.

Last but not least, it is expected to be the first Huawei foldable smartphone featuring cameras tuned by the company’s self-developed XMAGE image processing.

As far as price is concerned, the Huawei P50 Pocket S could retail at ¥4,999 and ¥6,999 for 256GB and 512GB storage variants, respectively. It may arrive in six vibrant colors, such as black, blue, pink, white, green, and yellow.

In the screengrab of Chen Jin’s Weibo post, he can be seen hinting that the X40 is equipped with a “new flagship platform” and LPDDR5X RAM. The new flagship platform that he is talking about appears to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which is expected to launch next month (November).

Its predecessor, the Moto Edge X30, went official as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone in December 2021. With 3C and TENAA certifications already under its belt, it appears that the Moto X40 could be one of the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones to launch this year.

The Moto X40’s specifications haven’t yet appeared on TENAA. It only shows images of the phone, whereas its 3C certification reveals that it may be able to charge at 68W.

OnePlus 10T OxygenOS 13 Open Beta begins: Here’s how to install it on your phone

OnePlus recently shared its Android 13-based OxygenOS 13 beta rollout roadmap. The most recent devices that have got an open beta build are the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T, and 9RT. Now, the brand has begun rolling out the OxygenOS 13 open beta update for the OnePlus 10T, which indicates that it will soon be getting the stable Android 13 update.

OnePlus 10t

The update includes the new aquamorphic design, new personalization features, and privacy and security-related changes. Users of the OnePlus 10T in India who have firmware versions A.08 or A.10 installed on their devices may flash OxygenOS 13 Open Beta on them. The update will need to be manually downloaded and moved to the phone’s internal storage (download link). Before installing the update on their device, the company urges customers to make sure that their battery is at least 30% charged and that they have at least 5.5GB of free storage.

Readers should be aware that the installation process involves manual flashing, therefore developer mode must be activated before to beginning. To activate the developer mode, navigate to Settings > About device > Version > Developer mode. Make seven clicks on the Build number, then type the password.

Following the download of the OxygenOS 13 Open Beta firmware and the activation of developer options, OnePlus 10T users can navigate to Settings > About device > Up to date > Click the top right button > Local install > Select the rollback package > Extract > Upgrade to install OxygenOS 13 Open Beta on their device.

Beta builds can be unstable and have some bugs in them, therefore we advise our users to not try them out on their daily driver smartphone. It is also advisable to make a backup of your data as rolling back from the OxygenOS 13 beta build to OxygenOS 12 could wipe your data.
