Vivo X80 Pro+ could launch in September with upgraded cameras, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

Now, a GSMArena report citing industry sources reveals that a new X-series device is on its way to launch in September. The report mentions that it won’t be an iterative upgrade over the existing X80 models. So, we are likely looking at the rumored Vivo X80 Pro+.

A couple of months back, we reported that the Vivo X80 Pro+ might debut around the month of October. The device is said to have the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset rather than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC featured in the X80 Pro. For those unaware, the newer Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is based on TSMC’s 4nm process and boasts up to 30% energy efficiency over its predecessor. It also runs relatively cooler that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is known to have numerous thermal management issues.

The device is expected to have a quad-camera array consisting of a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel Sony IMX598 sensor, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 sensor, and a 50-megapixel Samsung JN2 sensor.

According to previous reports, the smartphone will have a 6.8-inch 2K AMOLED display with a 120H refresh rate. It is also anticipated to offer 120W fast charging.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 Review: Even I don’t know it’s good or bad

I put the SIM card into the MIX Fold 2 for a few days, and I found it to be a phone that I both love and hate. It has a lot of advantages, but it also has a lot of things that make me feel terrible. In this review, let’s talk about the MIX Fold 2 and how I feel about it in the past few days.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVurPj6Krgo[/embedyt]

Thickness & Weigh

The biggest advantage of MIX Fold 2 is thickness, and the biggest disadvantage is also thickness. Although Xiaomi has been stressing that the MIX Fold 2 is the thinnest foldable phone, the thickness of 5mm after unfolding is indeed thinner than other foldable phones. It’s like holding a piece of hard cardboard, it is very comfortable whether I am using it one-handed or two-handed. But after closing the thickness is 11mm, which is very uncomfortable.

mix fold 2

You may not know that foldable phone users spend most of their time using the outside screen, plus the 262g weight and super slippery frosted back cover, it’s really hard to operate with one hand. I feel like I’m holding a brick and my pinky finger is bound to break. If this is the lightest, thinnest foldable phone grip experience, then this problem must be more serious for other foldable phones. So I do not recommend users who like to operate the phone with one hand buy any foldable phone.

mix fold 2

Video Ratio

Okay, you must think that the foldable phone is in its perfect form after expansion, then it may have to let you down. Because of the limitation of the screen ratio, most web video is actually not much bigger than the normal phone. The longer the screen ratio, the smaller the gap. Especially for movies, whether you use the outside screen or the inside one, it is the same size image.

mix fold 2 12s ultra

APP adaptation

Besides watching videos, you will also not be able to enjoy the advantages of a large screen in your daily use because of the APP adaptation. Users who have purchased an Android tablet should know that APPs that the developer has not optimized is not experience-friendly on the tablet. In theory, you can use the large screen to display more content, but in reality, you only get a stretched UI. We downloaded 9 popular apps, and only 3 of them actually made good use of the big screen.

mix fold 2

The only good thing about this big screen is multitasking, especially the Floating windows feature, which allows me not to miss any highlights when replying to messages. And the operation logic is so elegant that you can do everything with just one bar. I really like Xiaomi’s floating windows, compared to the split screen feature which is not so good. For example, it can only split the screen into left and right parts, not the top and bottom parts. This makes it very difficult for me to watch videos.

mix fold 2

Hinges

When it comes to reviewing a foldable phone, there is no way to avoid the problem of hinges and folds. To make the MIX Fold 2 thin and light enough, the hinge has been simplified a lot. As I said in the Unboxing video, there is no way to keep it at a certain angle. Even if it happens to stay at one angle, Xiaomi didn’t make any features for it. The only thing that makes the hinge better than the Samsung Z Fold series is probably that there is no gap at the hinge after it is closed.

mix fold 2

The creases are also average for a foldable phone, and I can’t see the creases in normal use anyway. In fact, this part rarely gets touched in daily use, so people who want to buy a folding phone really do not have to worry about the crease problem. This time we still tried to write on the MIX Fold 2 with the Xiaomi Pad Stylus. Just like what we expected, it really doesn’t support any stylus, so those who like stylus can consider buying the Samsung Z fold 4.

mix fold 2

Gaming

The gaming experience on MIX Fold 2 also has its good points and bad points. There are games such as PUBG, where the unique screen ratio allows it to expand the field of view and make your chicken dinner come a little easier. There is nothing to complain about except for the fact that 90fps mode is not yet supported.

mix fold 2 pubg

But there are games such as Genshin where the field of view narrows instead, like playing a game with a Magnifier. The picture clarity is much worse than the iPad mini 6. If you don’t unfold the phone to play the game, the frame rate decreases due to temperature increase and it is very hot. But if you unfold the phone, the main heating area is on the other side, my hands can not even touch that part, so this experience is good.

mix fold 2 genshin

For such a thin phone, this frame rate performance is barely above the pass line, at least the game can run smoothly with reduced graphics. But Genshin Impact’s resolution on this phone is already low, and if you lower the resolution plus this zoomed-in image, your eyes might go blind. So am I giving it a good or poor rating for the gaming experience? I don’t know, I’ll leave this judgment call for you to make.

mix fold 2 genshin

Camera

To be honest, the camera system of MIX Fold 2 is actually quite average and nothing special. The overall level of its camera system is probably somewhere between the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro. The main camera IMX 766 performs well most of the time, as long as it is not pitch dark it gets good photos.

The remaining two lenses are at the level of a $500 phone. The good thing is that the algorithm is good, so the color and dynamic range are good. But once you zoom in on the photo, the drawbacks are exposed. The white balance of the three lenses is also different, which is not created by the LEICA Authentic mode because I switch back to LEICA Vibrant and it’s the same. If you unfold the phone to take a picture, the sharpness of the viewfinder will be reduced, but of course, the picture is still clear.

The only thing I’m glad about is that all three lenses support 4k 30fps and the ability to switch lenses during recording. All in all, for a phone that takes superb photos, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is definitely the better choice.

The MIX Fold 2 only has a front camera on the outside screen. As you know, Xiaomi’s front camera hasn’t been performing well except for the Civi series. But the foldable phone can use the rear camera to take selfies, so it doesn’t matter if the front camera is good or not.

Google services

People often ask: Does this phone support Google services? Well, as Xiaomi’s most expensive phone, of course it does. You just need to turn on Basic Google services in Setting, and GMS will work just fine. In fact, not only MIX Fold 2, almost all other Xiaomi phones can use GMS normally. For the record, normally all the phones we have reviewed can use all Google APPs. If some phones don’t, we will remind you in the video, so don’t worry.

mix fold 2 GMS

As a foldable phone, the MIX Fold 2 is excellent. Although there are some missing features, but in exchange for the super light and super thin body, I think it is worth it. As a phone, it clearly flunked. I spent more money and got less features and experience than a regular flagship phone, which is ridiculous. All foldable phones have the same problem, so I wouldn’t recommend buying a foldable phone until you’re a millionaire. If you are, then the MIX Fold 2 might be a good choice.

Apple releases fifth iOS 16 public beta ahead of stable version rollout

Apple announced the latest iOS 16 operating system for the Apple iPhone models at its Worldwide Developers’ Conference a couple of months back. Since then, the company has released several developer builds and public beta versions of the software.

Now, in the latest development, the Cupertino-based tech giant has rolled out the fifth public beta version of the iOS 16 operating system, which is most likely the final public beta before the official rollout of the stable version.

IOS 16

The fifth public beta of the iOS 16, along with the iPadOS 16, comes just a week after the company released the fourth public beta, corresponding with the seventh developer beta version of the operating system.

The new iOS 16 from Apple comes with several new features, including a revamped Lock Screen with support for customizations of wallpapers, time, and widgets. It also allows multiple lock screens, which can also be linked to Focus modes.

Apart from the major changes to the design of the OS and new features, the first-party apps have also received several new features and improved functionalities, including Messages, FaceTime, Safari, and more.

If you haven’t enrolled in the public beta testing program, then you can sign up through Apple’s website. The operating system is still under development, so the beta builds may have stability issues. But, the company is expected to roll out the stable version of iOS 16 in the coming weeks.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 vs Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: Specs Comparison

Samsung is definitely the king of the foldable phone niche: there is no brand that can compete at the moment. Its foldable reached the 4th generation and there is no company that arrived at this point. But several Chinese manufacturers released their foldable phones and they are perfectly able to compete with the latest ones launched by the Korean giant. A few days ago, Samsung launched the brand new Galaxy Z Fold4 which debuted in the global market. Xiaomi on its end came up with the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, and it is another flagship foldable phone with incredible specifications. At least for now, this device is not global, but while waiting for an eventual global launch, we can give you the first conclusions. Here is a comparison between the main specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.

Design

Samsung made a lot of progress with the hinges of its foldable phones, but even if we exclude that, the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is more convincing. Indeed, it is a lot more compact than the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, and given the success of the OPPO Find N, it is kinda clear that people prefer foldable phones able to become very compact while folded. It also looks like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 has a better build quality. It is waterproof with the IPX8 certification and it comes with an aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance compared to the previous generation. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has wider displays, but it is bigger and chunkier, even though it is thinner while unfolded. So do you prefer a bigger display or a more compact foldable phone?

Display

As already mentioned, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has wider displays, but what about the quality and the features? Well, the foldable display of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is more interesting. It is a 7.6-inch panel with AMOLED technology, a 120 Hz refresh rate, a better hinge, and the HDR10+ certification. Last but not least, it supports the S Pen for handwriting and drawing to behave like a real Galaxy Note. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is all but disappointing: it has a wider 8.02-inch panel with OLED technology, the LTPO 2.0 technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, one billion colors, Dolby Vision support, and the HDR10+ certification. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 wins if we talk about external display, thanks to a 6.56-inch AMOLED panel sporting a Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

Specs & Software

With these two devices, you should get the same level of performance because they have the same hardware components. They are fueled by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform built with a 4 nm production process and with an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at 2.75 GHz, and four Cortex A510 CPUs running at 1.8 GHz, as well as an Adreno 730 GPU. The chip is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Note that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 runs Android 12L: a customized version of Android made for devices with big screens. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has the optimized MIUI Fold based on the original Android 12.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 wins the camera comparison. It has a triple camera setup on the rear side composed of a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, a 10 MP telephoto lens with OIS and 3x optical zoom, and an ultrawide sensor with a 12 MP resolution. It also comes with two front cameras: one on the foldable display with a 10 MP resolution and one on the external display with a 4 MP resolution. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has a triple rear camera with a 50 MP main sensor including OIS, an 8 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 13 MP ultrawide camera with a FOV of 123 degrees, as well as a 20 MP front snapper.

Battery

The battery of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is slightly bigger with a capacity of 4500 mAh, and it even charges quicker thanks to 67W fast charging. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is the only one to support wireless charging and fast wireless charging.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is priced at $1699/€1699 globally, while the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is only official for the Chinese market with a starting price of €1450/$1450. Which one would you pick?
