Samsung rolls out GPS fix update for Galaxy S5 Neo, Galaxy S7 series, Galaxy Note 8

A few days back, we reported that Samsung had started pushing a new software update for the Galaxy S8 series. The same update is now available for two more old smartphones, namely Galaxy S5 Neo, Galaxy S7 series, and Galaxy Note 8. Let’s check out what is it all about.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo
Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo

Galaxy S5 Neo, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, and Galaxy Note 8 are not eligible for software support, just like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Despite this, all of these old flagship series handsets are being treated with a new software update.

The latest firmware for these phones neither brings new features nor bumps up the security patch level. Instead, it arrives with a fix related to GPS. As per GalaxyClub, Samsung is preparing to release this update for multiple older devices.

Looks like the issue is critical as even the 7-year-old Galaxy J7 received the same update recently. Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy S9 Plus are expected to be the next in line to get this GPS fix update.

If you are still using any of the aforementioned smartphones, then head over to Settings to download and install the update. If you don’t see the update yet, then try later as it may take some time to reach all regional variants.

It’s good to see Samsung issuing software updates for out-of-support handsets. Currently, the company is also ahead of the competition by promising 4 Android updates and 5 years of security updates for select devices.

What are your thoughts on Samsung’s software update policy for its phones? Do let us know in the comment section below.

Nothing Phone (1) Android 13 update might be a while away

The Nothing Phone (1) was just recently announced for the global market. The new highly anticipated device ran on Android 12 OS, but with the Android 13 update being around the corner there have been questions regarding the major upgrade. But it appears that this update might be a while away.

Nothing Phone 1

When asking about the Android 13 update, the company’s founder shared a rather pointless response on Twitter. His exact words were “A product is more than just its specs, features, and version numbers.” While this might appear like a smart response, it is basically the marketing term for ‘the Android 13 update is not yet ready’ and it seems that likely don’t have the update coming out any time soon either.

Although, its not all bad news since even if the Android 13 update for the Phone (1) isn’t around the corner, the brand is likely working on it at the moment. This is confirmed because the company promised three years of OS updates for the new smartphone. However, even a simple press release or silent announcement would’ve been better than such a dry response, which served no purpose.

Since its launch, there have been users who’ve felt that the software aspect of the Nothing Phone (1) was still lacking. So, a major update might bring more robust software feature to the handset. Unfortunately, this is still just speculation at the moment, so stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Oppo teases launch of “Pantanal”, Cross-Platform Smart Ecosystem for Oppo Devices

Seamless connectivity across platforms brings connectivity to users. It is the reason why Apple has such a loyal fanbase because the iOS, macOS, and iPadOS operating systems are all seamlessly integrated together within Apple’s ecosystem. The Apple ecosystem provides its users the convenience and benefit of sharing media and files between their iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks at the same place, at the same time.

Thus, it comes as no surprise when Android manufacturers want to emulate the experience to provide Android users a seamlessly integrated experience as well. Case and point, Huawei has managed to create their own ecosystem with their smartphones, tablets, Huawei Matebook laptops, as well as their smart TVs, with their own in-house self-developed HarmonyOS.

And in 2022, it looks like another player will be joining the smart ecosystem competition as well, and it is none other the biggest brand of the BBK consumers electronics group  – Oppo.

On its official Weibo social media account today, Oppo had teased that the company will be launching its latest cross-platform smart device ecosystem, named “Pantanal”, which will include smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and etc., integrated together under one smart ecosystem.

The teaser reveals that Oppo is planning announce “Pantanal” at its ODC 2022 (Oppo Developers Conference 2022) in China happening on August 30th next Tuesday.

As to what the name “Pantanal” refers to, the Pantanal is actually a UNESCO heritage site located in South America.

At more than 42 million acres, the Pantanal is the largest tropical wetland and one of the most pristine in the world. To put its size into perspective, put the Pantanal over Europe, and it would be larger than at least nine countries, including England, Austria, Hungary, Greece, and Ireland.

It sprawls across three South American countries—Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay—and supports millions of people there, as well as communities in the lower Rio de la Plata Basin. Another fun fact of this massive wetland is that it has the largest concentration of crocodiles in the world, with approximately 10 million caimans.

According sources within China, the Pantanal smart cross-platform ecosystem is one of the 3 most important releases for Oppo this year, alongside Oppo’s Marisilicon X imaging silicon announced earlier this year, and another unknown release that Oppo is saving for the end of the year.

Apple Maps to reportedly start showing ads in search results from next year

Apple Maps, when announced, was criticized a lot because of inaccuracies, but the company has made several changes to the application where it is now more reliable compared to earlier and a legitimate competitor to Google Maps.

Now, the company is adding a new feature to Apple Maps which is not available on Google Maps, but users won’t be happy about it. The company is gearing up to start showing advertisements in the mobile application from next year.

Apple Maps

As per the latest report coming from Mark Gurman on Bloomberg in his Power On newsletter, Apple’s engineering team has already started working on the software to support search ads. He further adds that users could start seeing advertisements in the app as early as next year.

Previously, it was reported that the Cupertino-based technology giant had tested an internal version of the Maps app with search advertisements. It won’t be the first application from Apple to have ads as the company’s App Store is already serving ads.

As for the ads on the App Store, developers can pay Apple to prioritize their software in search results, ensuring it shows up at the top of the page for specific terms. The search ads on the Maps will work similarly where businesses can pay Apple to have their establishment show up higher in local listings where users search for relevant terms.

The development comes at a time when Apple is planning to expand its advertisement revenue. Currently, the company’s advertising business generates about $4 billion in revenue annually, but Todd Teresi, who is heading the department, is aiming to increase it to at least $10 billion per year.
