Google Pixel 6a performed well in JerryRigEverything’s durability tests

The recently released Google Pixel 6a has appeared on JerryRigEverything’s YouTube channel. That means that the device has been put through the paces of several durability tests. A short YouTube video from the channel detailed the durability tests, and the Pixel 6a performed well.

The Pixel 6s had been the subject of intense speculations before its eventual release. The JerryRigEverything video lasted for about 6 minutes. The durability tests included scratch, heat, and bend tests. Overall, the Pixel 6a had a decent performance. The scratch test began by testing the phone’s Gorilla Glass 3 display. A level 6 pick was able to scratch the glass and deeper grooves at level 7. This underscores the vulnerability of the Gorilla Glass 3 protection. However, the fingerprint scanner still retained its ability to pick fingerprints.

The video showed the phone’s metal frames and plastic antenna lines around it. There is also a black rubber ring on the SIM card tray as protection against water. The camera visor of the Pixel 6a is covered by plastic material, while the phone’s backplate is also made of plastic. The plastic-covered areas of the Pixel 6a are much more susceptible to scratches than the glass components. The flame test resulted in a staying time of 10 seconds for the phone under direct heat. This also resulted in the pixels turning off but seems to have recovered afterward.

The Pixel 6a did not break during the bend test. It withstood pressure from the front and back sides. There was minimal dispersion of the display but it reverted to its original position quickly. On the whole, the Google Pixel 6a passed the JerryRigEverything durability tests.

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy A04s entry-level phone. A new leak by Winfuture.de reveals that the device will offer key features like a 90Hz display, a 50-megapixel main camera, and a big battery. The report has also leaked the press renders and price of the A04s, which indicates that it may launch in the next few days.

Starting from the front, the Galaxy A04s will feature a 6.5-inch PLS LCD display with a teardrop notch. It will offer an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, a 90Hz refresh rate, and 400 nits of brightness.

The Exynos 850 chipset by Samsung will be present under the hood of the Galaxy A04s. The device will come with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot for additional storage. It will come preloaded with Android 12 OS with the company’s One UI on top.

The Galaxy A23 5G’s specs, pricing, and launch date have already been confirmed for Taiwan. And now, the brand has also revealed the same details for the Galaxy A13 5G.

Samsung has revealed that the Galaxy A13 5G is set to launch on September 1 in Taiwan. The device will have a starting price of NTD 6,990 (roughly $232) for the base 4GB + 64GB option. The 4GB + 128GB variant is priced at NTD 7,990 (roughly $645). It will launch in Black, Blue, and White colors.

The Samsung Galaxy A13 5G features a 6.5-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The phone has AI face unlock as well as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

iQOO is all set to unveil the iQOO Z6 series of smartphones on Aug. 25 in China. Ahead of the launch, the company is busy confirming the key specifications of the device. Today, it confirmed that the Z6 will be powered by the Snapdragon 778G Plus mobile platform.

Apart from featuring the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset, the iQOO Z6 will include LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. In addition, it will be equipped with a six-layered ice-cooled liquid cooling technology for heat dissipation. The company claims that the Z6 will offer the best-ever performance seen on a Z-series iQOO phone.

Apart from this, the company has already confirmed that the device will carry support for 80W fast charging. According to iQOO, the device has a dual-cell battery, and the fast charging technology will allow it to go from 0 to 50 percent in just 10 minutes.

The iQOO Z6 was recently seen in the database of China Telecom. The listing revealed its design, full specifications, variants, and price.

Sony is increasing its presence in the wireless soundbar segment of its Indian operations with the release of the Sony HT-S400. The new wireless soundbar is a 2.1-channel, 330W soundbar that combines Dolby Digital and S-Force PRO Front Surround. It uses Sony’s in-house digital sound technology to deliver cinema-level surround sound.

The launch of the HT-S400 wireless soundbar follows the recent release of the SA-RS5 wireless rear speakers by Sony India. The rectangular speakers help to maximize the diaphragm size while the front speakers are X-balanced. The design and shape of the soundbar help to maintain sound pressure and improve vocal clarity. A powerful wireless subwoofer delivers high-quality bass output from a 160mm speaker. The sound output is deeper and richer in combination with Dolby Digital. The rear panel of the subwoofer is covered with recycled plastic from Sony’s processes.

Samsung Breaks Ground on New $15 Billion Semiconductor R&D Complex in South Korea

Samsung Electronics on Friday broke ground for a new semiconductor research and development complex in Giheung, South Korea, with the goal of extending its leadership in cutting-edge semiconductor technology.

The South Korean tech giant intends to invest approximately KRW 20 trillion ($15 billion) by 2028 in the complex, which will span approximately 109,000 square meters on its Giheung campus. The new facility will apparently spearhead advanced research on next-generation devices and processes for memory and system semiconductors, as well as the development of innovative new technologies based on the company’s long-term roadmap.

Samsung hopes to surpass the restrictions of semiconductor scaling and strengthen its competitive edge in semiconductor technology by establishing the new R&D facility.

Back in 2019, Samsung stated intentions to spend KRW 133 trillion ($100 billion today, $115 billion in 2019) on semiconductor R&D by 2030. The business devoted KRW 73 trillion ($54.6 billion) to R&D operations in South Korea, thus investing $15 billion in a single R&D site fits perfectly with this strategy.

The new R&D center will collaborate with Samsung’s existing R&D line in Hwaseong (which focuses on memory, system LSI, and foundry technologies) and the company’s Pyeongtaek production complex.

“Our new state-of-the-art R&D complex will become a hub for innovation where the best research talent from around the world can come and grow together,” said President Kye Hyun Kyung, who also heads the Device Solutions (DS) Division. “We expect this new beginning will lay the foundation for sustainable growth of our semiconductor business.”

It is Samsung’s first semiconductor R&D facility of this scale and will fuel the company’s ambitions to create more competitive logic and memory chips.

Samsung launched the new Galaxy Watch 5 series at its Unpacked event held earlier this month. The new Galaxy Watch lineup comes with some considerable improvements both in terms of hardware and aesthetics. The series also arrives with some new watch faces. And luckily, you can install most of the Galaxy Watch 5 watch faces on your older Galaxy Watch 4.

An XDA member managed to extract the APK files for five new Galaxy Watch 5 watch faces. These new watch faces can easily be sideloaded on the Galaxy Watch 4 using ADB. Four of these five watch faces are perfectly compatible with the Galaxy Watch 4. However, the new HealthMonitor watch face doesn’t work on the Galaxy Watch 4 probably because an older version of the same is already available on the watch.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G has received a price cut in India. The smartphone was launched earlier in March this year in the country. It is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM configurations. Both variants of the Galaxy A53 5G are now cheaper by up to Rs 3,500. However, it’s unclear if the device has received a permanent price cut or if it is for a limited period. The revised pricing is reflected across Samsung’s official website, Amazon, Flipkart, Vijay Sales, and Croma.

The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G carried a starting price tag of Rs 34,999 for the base 6GB + 128GB option. It has received a price cut of Rs 3,500 thus making it available for Rs 31,499. The 8GB + 128GB variant was available for Rs 35,999. After becoming cheaper by Rs 3,000, it can now be purchased for Rs 32,999. Interested customers purchasing from Amazon and Samsung.com can also take advantage of exchange offer on old smartphones which can reduce the price of the Galaxy A53 5G.

As for the core specifications, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G comes with a 6.5-inch Infinity-O sAMOLED display bearing an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner and has an elevating camera module on the back panel.

The device has been certified by China’s 3C authority. It reveals that the device will offer 44W rapid charging. A recent report revealed that it will be available in three variants: 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. The rest of the specifications of the device are yet to be confirmed.

While there is no confirmation yet, the iQOO Z6x could be a rebadged version of the Vivo T2x, which debuted in June in China. The T2x is fitted with a 6.58-inch IPS LCD FHD+ display that offers a 144Hz refresh rate. It is backed by a 6,000mAh battery that carries support for 44W rapid charging.The device is powered by the Dimensity 1300 chipset.

The Vivo T2x’s back panel has a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel macro snapper. On the front, it has a 16-megapixel selfie camera. For security, it has a side-facing fingerprint scanner. It boots to the Android 12 OS and OriginOS 2.0. It has a starting price of 1,599 Yuan (~$234) in China.

The price cut is on Amazon India and only on the base 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage variant of the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro. Apart from the price drop, there is also an exchange discount on old smartphones that further brings down the price of the smartphone.

The Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro carries a regular price tag of Rs 39,999 for the base 8GB + 128GB model. On Amazon, it is currently available for Rs 31,999 which means that the smartphone is discounted by Rs 8,000.

Additionally, interested buyers can also exchange their old smartphones for the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro. Based on the value of the customer’s old device, they can get up to Rs 17,750 off. This means that there’s a possibility that the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro could be availed at as low as Rs 14,250 price tag.

Mi 11X Pro specifications and features

The Mi 11X Pro boasts a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED E4 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,300 nits peak brightness, and HDR10+ support. There is a 20MP front-facing selfie snapper whereas the rear camera setup consists of a 108MP main lens, 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP macro unit.

The Mi 11X Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 888 processor paired with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. It is backed by a 4,520mAh battery unit with support for 33W fast charging. The smartphone is also equipped with a liquid cooling system, X-Axis motor, and Dolby Atmos-powered speakers.

Asus may soon release a new smartphone. According to certifications and a reliable leaker, this handset will be launched under the ROG brand. It is said to be a new variant of ROG Phone 6. Let’s take a look at everything that’s known about this device.

Earlier today, two upcoming Asus smartphones with model numbers ASUS_AI2203_A and ASUS_AI2203_B were spotted on 3C. Popular tipster Digital Chat Station says that these model numbers belong to the yet-to-release Asus ROG Phone 6D.

The handset has been also spotted on the RoHS certification page of Asus’ official website. The listing confirms the device’s official marketing name.

According to Digital Chat Station, the forthcoming ROG Phone 6D will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset. This suggests that the D in the name stands for ‘Dimensity’.

Further, as per him, the smartphone will flaunt a 165Hz flat screen supplied by Samsung Display. It will sport a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera and will be backed by a 6,000mAh battery with support for 65W fast wired charging.

Going by the aforementioned specs, the ROG Phone 6D will likely only differ in terms of the chipset. For the unaware, the original ROG Phone 6 houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC.

The latest audio device comes with a long-lasting battery life that allows users to continue using it for days. The Noise Xtreme neckband earphones compete against the other earphones from brands like Realme, OnePlus, boAt, and others in the market.

As previously mentioned, the Noise Xtreme are neckband-styled earphones. They are IPX5 certified water-resistant. The earbuds can be magnetically attached to each other and there is HyperSync technology that is capable of automatically connecting the earphones to the most recently paired device as soon as the buds are separated.

TSMC, the leading advanced chipmaker, will soon start shipping 3nm chip orders soon, with Apple being its first customer. But these cutting edge processors will not be for the upcoming iPhone 14 series.

The world’s largest contract chipmaker’s largest customer is also the Cupertino based giant as well. The latter will start received the 3nm chips, however, these are not for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro series models. For those unaware, the iPhone 14 series will be arriving with the 4nm based A16 Bionic chipset for the Pro models of the iPhone 14 Pro models, while the base and Max variant will arrive with the last gen 5nm A15 Bionic chipset.

The new 3nm chips that Apple has ordered is basically for the next gen PC chipsets, which is the M2 Pro processor. It is the first 3nm process based chip that the brand will ship, with the first 3nm chip powered iPhone likely being the iPhone 15 series that will launch in 2023.

To put things simply, the jump in generation also means that the next gen chips will be more powerful as well as energy efficient while having a higher transistor count in the chips. Based on what TSMC said, the 3nm FinFET chips will reduce energy consumption by 25 to 30 percent while increasing power by 10 to 15 percent over the previous gen 5nm FinFET based chips.
