Two persons were killed in a crash involving a Nio car in Shanghai during a test drive. Two occupants were in the car when it crashed from the third floor of the company’s Shanghai headquarters. The two male casualties were said to be a staff of the EV maker and a technician from one of its partners. The incident once again brings to the spotlight safety concerns surrounding intelligent EVs.
In what can be termed a freak accident, the driver of the Nio test vehicle lost control of the vehicle and smashed through the glass windows before plunging to the ground. There were no reported casualties on the ground, fortunately. Nio is a Chinese EV company and the incident happened on June 22. Nio has confirmed the incident and says preliminary investigations indicate that no flaws were discovered in the test vehicle.
A comprehensive investigation of the incident will reveal the probable cause of the crash. The news of the crash was first aired by state-owned Shanghai Television. Regulatory authorities are yet to make any public pronouncements on the crash. It however raises safety concerns that have remained with the development of autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles.
When we talk about Realme and Xiaomi’s sub-brands, there are no limits when it comes to affordable phones. These companies release a huge number of budget devices every year and they are among the best ones for those who want to save money while still getting a great device. The latest affordable handset launched by Realme is the Realme V20: a phone which comes with 5G even though it offers the most affordable price. In a similar price range, you can find the POCO M4 5G: it is another of the most affordable phones with 5G connectivity. Given that these two devices are currently very hot, we decided to compare them. Here is a comparison between the specifications of the Realme V20 and the POCO M4 5G, very useful if you were wondering which will be your next entry-level phone.

Design
The Realme V20 is definitely one of the most beautiful entry-level devices out there. It has flat borders just like the iPhones, it has no big dimensions and its cameras do not come inside a camera module but they are placed directly on the rear side, even though they are protruding. The presence of a waterdrop notch ruins the overall design experience, but you can not pretend a punch hole on a so affordable phone. The POCO M4 5G is definitely less elegant because of its big camera module and classic curved borders. It has bigger dimensions, it is thicker than the Realme V20, and it comes with a waterdrop notch too. However, there are two important advantages when it comes to the build quality: it has the Gorilla Glass 3 protection and it is splash resistant, and it is not easy to find these elements on an affordable phone.
Display
The display of the POCO M4 5G is way better than the panel found on the Realme V20. It is an IPS LCD display with a diagonal of 6.58 inches, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, protected by Gorilla Glass as already mentioned. The Realme V20 has an IPS panel with a 6.5-inch diagonal and an HD+ resolution of 720p, nothing special. As you can clearly see from the specifications, the display of the POCO M4 5G is able to show images with a higher level of detail and it even provides a smoother viewing experience thanks to a 90 Hz refresh rate. These displays are nothing special because they are low-end LCD panels, so do not expect a huge image quality. The POCO M4 5G and the Realme V20 are equipped with side-mounted fingerprint readers and they come with mono speakers, but they have a 3.5 mm audio jack for the headphones.
Hardware/Software
The Realme V20 and the POCO M4 5G are powered by the same processor: the Dimensity 700 by Mediatek built at 7 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. It is composed of two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2 GHz, as well as a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The Dimensity 700 is the most affordable 5G chipset by Mediatek to date but it provides good performance. The Realme V20 wins the comparison because it offers a higher amount of RAM: up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage, while the POCO M4 5G stops at 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB. Note that the POCO runs Android 12 out of the box, while the Realme is still based on Android 11. These phones are good for average or entry-level users, not for power users or gamers, but they are not disappointing in terms of performance.
Camera
The most advanced camera is the one found on the POCO M4 5G. It has a better main camera with a 50 MP resolution: it is not a camera phone, but it offers a decent photo quality. The main camera is paired with a 2 MP depth sensor. The Realme V20 has a 13 MP main camera and a 0.3 MP depth sensor, disappointing for those who look for great photo quality. So if you need the best camera phone in this comparison, you know what to choose without thinking twice.
Battery
There is no difference between the capacities of the batteries of these two phones. They both come with a 5000 mAh lithium unit, but the Realme V20 should provide a longer battery life on a single charge simply because its display is more efficient due to the HD resolution and standard refresh rate. On the other hand, the POCO M4 5G remains an amazing battery phone and, unlike the V20, it supports fast charging.
Realme V20 vs Xiaomi POCO M4 5G: Price
You need at least $239/€226 to purchase the POCO M4 5G, while the Realme V20 5G starts from about €141/$149. The POCO phone wins the comparison due to its better display, cameras, and fast charging, but the V20 is more affordable and beautiful.
Toyota has recalled 2,700 units of its first all-electric SUV just two months after its launch. The Toyota bZ4X SUVs were recalled due to the risk of their wheels possibly coming loose while driving. Toyota has already submitted the recall request to Japan’s Transportation Ministry.
The breakdown of the distribution of the mass-produced bZ4X SUVs slated for recall shows Europe as the destination for the bulk of the affected cars. Europe accounts for 2,200 of the vehicles, while 260 units were earmarked for the United States, 110 for Japan, and 10 units for Canada. The wheel issue also affected about 2,600 units of the Subaru Solterra, which was jointly developed by Subaru and Toyota.
Japan’s safety regulator had warned that sharp turns and sudden braking could result in the loosening of the hub bolts. This heightens the risk of a wheel coming off the vehicle. There are no reported actual accidents due to this observed flaw yet in Japan. Owners of the affected models were advised to stop using their vehicles until permanent repair measures were taken.
The 110 recalled units of the bZ4X in Japan were meant for test drives and display, according to Toyota. In an official statement, the company apologized for any inconvenience the recall might cause. Toyota says the 2,700 recalled units of the bZ4X are part of the overall number produced for the model. However, the company was silent on the total number of bZ4X already mass-produced. Toyota has already canceled the promotional test drives that were being carried out by KINTO.

Chinese gaming PC manufacturer AYANEO is seemingly working on a new handheld console with a spectacular design. The upcoming console dubbed AYANEO Flip handheld gaming console will come with a clam-shell design.
The AYANEO Flip’s clamshell-styled design is a one-of-a-kind design and we don’t have a clear picture of how it will pan out. That is because the company only shared a teaser image showing the hinges and another showing it in the closed state.
The company has yet to release details about the flip gaming device yet. However, the device is expected to have a 7-inch LCD display which doesn’t fold, by the way. The folding design is perhaps to make for easy storage as the display folds over the control buttons. We don’t have complete details of this design so can’t say what will happen to the joystick. The image also shows the device will feature four shoulder buttons and a considerably small bezel around the display. It will also come with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor with Radeon 680M graphics.
We have no idea when the AYANEO Flip will be launched. The product will join a growing list of impressive handheld gaming devices such as the AYA NEO, AYA Neo Next, as well as the AYANEO Air and AYANEO 2 that were unveiled recently.

Last month, Oppo launched the Reno 8 series smartphones in China. The series consists of the vanilla Reno 8, Reno 8 Pro, and Reno 8 Pro+. ASUS ROG Phone 6 is slated to go official on July 5 in Taiwan, China, and the US. One of the variants of the ROG Phone 6 series was recently spotted at the TENAA certification site with full specifications. Now the listing has been updated with its images. The TENAA images of the device show that the ROG Phone 6 will not offer any significant improvement in the design department.

The front of the ROG Phone 6 is not clearly visible in the TENAA images. However, it appears that its display will feature a centrally positioned punch-hole. The screen will come integrated with a fingerprint sensor. The rear shell of the device has a horizontal triple camera unit at the top-left corner.

It seems to be fitted with a vertically aligned secondary display towards the centre. Some sort of LED indicator seems to be present on the opposite side of the secondary screen. The ROG logo and Tencent Games branding are available towards the bottom of the back panel. The right side of the device features a volume rocker and a power key. The TENAA images match the 2D renders, which were leaked by Equal Leaks earlier this year.

Apple has dominated the premium smartphone segment market again. The company is the market leader in this category, with its iPhones series of smartphone being the most popular offering.
iPhone 13
The news arrives from a Counterpoint Research report, which stated that the Cupertino based giant managed to acquire a massive market share of 62 percent in the global premium smartphone segment in Q1 2022. In other words, this means that the brand almost had a two thirds of the entire market under its belt. Typically, a premium smartphone is considered to be a handset that costs over 400 US Dollars. So two in every three devices sold above this price tag was an iPhone model.
Although, this also implies that some mid range phones like the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G model was also included in this list. But despite the likes of the South Korean brands having an advantage for having a more diverse smartphone portfolio, Apple still managed to dominate the entire segment in the first quarter of this year. As of right now, the iPhone maker’s shares are up by 5 percent over last year. Back in 2021, the iPhone 12 series was also quite popular thanks to the lineup being the first 5G enabled iPhones.
Interestingly, this also means that the iPhone 13 is currently the world’s best selling smartphone model, since it practically beat offerings from every other rival in the handset market by a large margin. Apart from this, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone was the best selling premium Android smartphone in the market during this same period.
Earlier this week, Instagram announced that it was testing new options to test the users age for its verification system when making an account. Apparently, one of the options might have users take a selfie video to prove their age.
The popular social media platform has stated that it is testing two new ways to verify one’s age, apart from requiring them to upload their identity proof online. Erica Finkle, director of data governance at Meta (Instagram’s parent company), said that “When we know if someone is a teen (13-17 years), we provide them with age appropriate experiences like defaulting them into private accounts, preventing unwanted contact from adults they don’t know and limiting the options advertisers have to reach them with ads.”
For this verification system, the company will be partnering up with Yoti, which a firm that specializes in online age verification and also ensures users’ privacy. Once the video is uploaded by the user, Yoti’s technology estimates their age based on facial features. Following this, Meta and Yoti will delete the image once the age has been verified. Apart from this, Instagram also plans on allowing people to select three mutual followers to confirm the user’s age.
Although, the people vouching for the verification process must be at least 18 years old. Notably, the popular app is bringing this system after it paused the launch of Instagram Kids last year. This app was meant to be dedicated for children and would require parental approval by providing an ad free and age appropriate content on its platform.
