POCO F4 vs POCO X4 GT: Specs Comparison

After the amazing POCO F4 GT with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 inside, Xiaomi’s sub-brand launched a brand new duo of phones in the European market: the POCO F4 and the POCO X4 GT. They are two lower-end devices, but they can still be considered good flagship killers for gamers and power users thanks to high-end hardware departments. A lot of expert people will choose them because of their performance and they could become best-sellers due to their affordable prices. But which one is the best and which is the most suitable one for your actual needs? In order to answer this question, we decided to publish a comparison between the specifications of the POCO F4 and the POCO X4 GT.

Design

Do you prefer having a more ergonomic device? If so, then you should go for the POCO F4 because it has a thinner and lighter design: it weighs 195 grams and is 7.7 mm thick. Further, it offers an important pro: it has the IP53 certification making it dust resistant and splash resistant. You might like the POCO X4 GT because it comes with a cleaner design, thanks to the camera module sporting the same color as the rest of the rear side. But it is thicker and heavier than its internal rival, so less ergonomic. Unfortunately, both these phones are made of polycarbonate and they are not built with premium materials. However, their displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 5, so they should be very resistant to scratches, even though we recommend leaving a screen protector applied to the front glass.

Display

The best display in this comparison belongs to the POCO F4. It is equipped with an amazing AMOLED panel sporting a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and Dolby Vision. It provides a great image quality with vibrant colors and deep blacks, and it is amazing even on streaming platforms. It even provides very high brightness with up to 1300 nits and the Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Even though it is an AMOLED panel, the fingerprint reader of the POCO F4 is not in-display but side-mounted, and there are stereo speakers for an improved audio experience. The display of the POCO X4 GT is great for gamers thanks to its 144 Hz refresh rate, but, unfortunately, it is an IPS LCD panel. The image quality is great thanks to the HDR10 certification and Dolby Vision, but it can not compete with AMOLED panels sporting the same specifications. Naturally, even in this case, the fingerprint scanner is side-mounted.

Specs & Software

The most advanced hardware setup belongs to the POCO X4 GT: it is fueled by the Mediatek Dimensity 8100 mobile platform paired with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The Dimensity 8100 chipset built at 5 nm with a max frequency of 2.85 GHz (alongside its Max variant with improved AI performance) is the best Mediatek chipset after the Dimensity 9000 and the Dimensity 9000+, so it provides flagship-class performance. The POCO F4 is inferior because it is powered by the older Snapdragon 870 chipset built at 7 nm and running at a max frequency of 3.2 GHz. In this case, the SoC is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Both handsets run Android 12 out of the box, customized by MIUI 13 in a special version for POCO devices.

Camera

There are no differences between the camera departments of these two phones, with the exception of a single element. On the rear side, you can find a 64 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro camera, while frontally, there is a 20 MP selfie shooter. The difference between these two models is the presence of OIS on the POCO F4, which improves the photo quality thanks to better stabilization.

Battery

If you are looking for a phone with the longest battery life, then the POCO X4 GT is the best choice you can do. It is equipped with a 5080 mAh battery and thanks to this battery, even though it has an IPS display, it lasts more on a single charge. Also, note that its processor is more efficient because it is built at 5 nm. The 4500 mAh battery of the POCO F4 is still sufficient, but nothing special if compared to the X4 GT. Both the phones support 67W fast charging, but the F4 charges quicklier because it has a smaller battery.

Price

The starting price of the POCO F4 in the European market is €399/$419, while you need €299/$315 to purchase the X4 GT. The former looks more interesting due to its better display, but the latter comes with a bigger battery and a better processor.

The little design details leaked about the Enjoy 50 Pro show a semblance with the Huawei Mate 40.Huawei Enjoy 50 Pro

The Huawei Enjoy 50 Pro has a stylish design showing a ring camera bump like the Mate 40. It is indicated that the camera will have AI functionality. The rear design of the Enjoy 50 Pro shows a white gradient interspersed with hues.Huawei Enjoy 50 Pro

Samsung fined $14m in Australia for misleading Galaxy smartphone water-resistance ads

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has fined Samsung $14 million for misleading claims about its Galaxy smartphones. The fine relates to a 2019 investigation of Samsung after it released several ads for various Galaxy smartphones.Samsung fined

The main thrust of the ads was that the phones were water-resistant when in water for up to 30 minutes. Samsung also depicted in the adverts the Galaxy phones being dipped in swimming pools or getting splashes on the beach.

The ads were aired on national TV in Australia and the consumer watchdog took Samsung to task for some of these ads. Samsung inherently gave a false notion of the water-resistance capability of the models. These smartphones were only water-resistant in fresh water, not seawater or chlorinated water. The charging port was prone to corrosion under such circumstances.

Samsung has now agreed to pay the fine of $14 million to ACCC for the misleading claims. It has also made software and hardware changes to its phones to provide a more realistic claim of water resistance. This information was relayed by ACCC’s chair, Gina Cass-Gottlieb. The ACCC chairperson says that the penalty is a strong reminder to all businesses that all product claims must be substantiated. The watchdog says it will continue to take enforcement actions against erring businesses in this regard.

It is no secret that Samsung is working on its next generation of smartwatches dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series. The device has already made an appearance on the FCC certification website, however, there is no word on its release date yet.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Now, ahead of its launch, reliable tipster Roland Quandt has leaked the pricing of the upcoming smartwatch revealing that it will come with a heftier price tag than the current generation Galaxy Watch 4 series. The tipster informs that the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 40mm version will have a €300 and €350 Euro price tag for the Bluetooth and LTE versions respectively. These watches will come in Pink Gold, Gray, and Silver color options.

The 44mm Galaxy Watch 5 will cost €350 for the Bluetooth version and the LTE version will cost €400. They will be available in Blue, Gray, and Silver color options. Last but not the least, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro’s Bluetooth-only model will have an MSRP of €490 and the LTE version will cost €540. The Pro models will be available in Black and Titanium color options.

The tipster states that these prices are subject to change depending on price conversion and the taxes levied in different regions. However, looking at this leak, we can expect around a €90 price hike across the entire lineup of the next-gen Samsung smartwatches compared to the current pricing of the Galaxy Watch 4 series.

Amazon announces the Proteus, a fully autonomous warehouse robot

Amazon is blazing its stellar trail in robotics by releasing a fully autonomous warehouse robot. The company has been at the forefront of the development of robotics in the workplace for a decade since the formation of Amazon Robotics. The robotics arm of the company has delivered excellent automation robots within its decade-long existence.Amazon Proteus

Amazon Robotics has announced two new robots – Proteus and Cardinal which offer new insights into robotics technology. Proteus is an autonomous floor system while Cardinal is a robotic arm. Both robots are being integrated into Amazon’s shelf and cell system which has evolved in ten years. Proteus can move autonomously within the facility using advanced safety, perception, and navigation technology. Amazon says it was built to be automatically directed to do its work. It needs not to be confined to restricted areas and has broad applications. Amazon says Proteus can help employees in a variety of ways such as the lifting and movement of GoCarts around its facilities.

Amazon has made several key acquisitions since it acquired Kiva Systems a decade ago. Amazon Robotics has deployed more than 520k robotic drive units across its facilities thus far. The company continues to improve on delivery times for products due to its highly automated systems. The entry of Proteus and Cardinal will further accelerate Amazon’s drive toward lightning-fast deliveries. The development of the new systems could not be unconnected with Amazon’s acquisition of Canvas in 2019. The hardware is designed to interact directly with workers on the floor, in line with Canvas’s previous autonomous solutions.Amazon Proteus

It is also impressive that the new system can fit snugly with Amazon’s existing Kiva systems with minimal retrofitting. Amazon says that Proteus will be initially deployed in the outbound GoCart handling areas.

Ultimately, Amazon hopes to automate GoCart handling across the network for greater efficiency. The development of these autonomous robotic systems by Amazon gives it a cutting-edge advantage in the market. Its huge investment in robotics has transformed the company tremendously.

Amazon Alexa might soon sound like anyone you like

Amazon Alexa might be getting a cool new feature in the near future. The company plans on offering an update that would allow the AI voice assistant to mimic voices, which basically means that Alexa can sound like whoever you want it to.

Amazon

According to a Reuters report, the popular online retailer and tech giant plans on offering users an Alexa that sounds like their grandmothers, a former president, or just about anyone else. During the MARS conference held earlier this week in the US, Amazon senior vice president Rohit Prasad stated that the idea is to let Alexa copy anyone’s voice after hearing it for less than a minute.

Prasad also added that the goal is to have Alexa help “make the memories last” after “so many of us have lost someone we love” during the pandemic. Although, it is currently unknown when the company plans on rolling out this feature but we know its coming sometime in the future. Notably, there are possibilities of illegal and criminal activities being performed through this feature. But there should be some levels of safeguards as well.

Amazon

Furthermore, the new feature for Alexa can also have applications as a companion feature. In the video shared by Amazon, a child asks that “Alexa, can grandma finish reading me the Wizard of Oz?” Alexa then proceeds to read the children’s book using the kid’s deceased grandmother voice. So, it is a sweet and wholesome feature, if not a bit creepy as well.

Samsung announces 200MP ISOCELL HP3 smartphone camera sensor, with smallest ever 0.56μm Pixels

Samsung Electronics has just announced its new high end camera sensors for smartphones. It is the 200 megapixel ISOCELL HP3, which arrives with various improvements and features over its predecessor.

Samsung

For those unaware, the HP3 sensor is the successor to the ISOCELL HP1, which had .64μm pixels. But now, the South Korean tech giant has announced the new HP3 image sensor, which has the industry’s smallest 0.56μm pixels. In other words, the latest camera brings a high resolution sensor that has the smallest pixels. The company is also bringing a new technology, which is called the Epic Resolution Pro that offers professional level high resolution for smartphone users.

The new ISOCELL HP3 has a 12 percent smaller pixel size and can also enable around 20 percent reduction in camera module surface area as well. Notably, the HP3 sensor also supports video recording up to 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K recording at 120fps. Interestingly enough, it can record high resolution videos with minimal loss in the field of view, especially in 8K resolutions.

Another notable aspect regarding the new sensor is the Tetra2pixel technology. Typically, pixel binning, which has the camera sensor combine four pixels (AKA quad binning), helps offer brighter images in low light scenarios. But with the new HP3 sensor, Samsung is combining an impressive 16 pixels into one. In theory, this should enable the camera to offer one large sized pixel sensor that will be capable of take in more light for better performance in night scenes. At the moment, it is unclear in which smartphone this sensor will launch with, but it is likely reserved for top end model like the Galaxy S series.
