China Tablet PC market grows despite fall at the start of this year: IDC

A new report has revealed details regarding the tablet PC market in China. While the market saw a decline at the start, the region managed to see a rise in this segment in the second half of this year.

China

According to an IDC report, the Coronavirus pandemic was actually a “double edged sword” that both boosted the consumer market but also made the commercial market worse.  In the first quarter of this year, the tablet segment shipped around 6.21 million units, which marked a 17 percent year on year rise. The report adds that a large number of consumers have purchased tablet computers in the last two years. On the other hand, the commercial market shipped only 540,000 units, marking a 42 percent decrease year on year during this same period.

Apparently, the pandemic was the primary reason for this sharp fall since the outbreak lead to lockdowns in certain regions across the nation. This, in turn, led to projects being cancelled and shipments further declining. So, the commercial market is expected to not see the robust performance it saw back in 2020 in the second half of this year. During the first quarter of 2022, the tablet PC shipments overall declined by 2.1 percent year on year. However, the market stabilized and the shipments reached 6.76 million units. This marked a rise of 8.1 percent year on year.

China

Guo Tianxiang, senior analyst at IDC China said that “There is no doubt that the rebound of the epidemic and the stricter lockdown policies in various places have significantly boosted Chinese consumers’ demand for tablet computers. Shanghai and surrounding areas, which are under lockdown, have also not been affected. It is not the main area for tablet computer material production and complete machine assembly, so it can be said that it has little impact on the supply of products, and it also ensures that the supply side can fully meet the sudden market demand of consumers.”

Google unveils Android 13 for tablets, with a Taskbar, enhanced multitasking, & more

During the Google I/O conference, the company had announced a number of new products, which included a new smartphone, a smartwatch, and even teased future gadgets as well. But along with hardware release, the brand also officially unveiled Android 13 OS for tablets.

Google

In the event, the Search engine giant showcased the latest operating system that it claimed will arrive with improved multitasking features and some overhauls to the UI. One of the most notable change in the latest software, is the addition of a Taskbar in the UI. Android 13 on tablets will now have a taskbar and an update notification share that will make use of a tablet’s larger screen real estate. Apart from this, Google has also placed a focus on improving the multitasking experience as a whole.

Google

With mobile devices becoming increasingly more powerful each year, it arrives as no surprise that the line between a tablet and a notebook is quickly blurring. With the addition of a taskbar, the device itself resembles Chrome OS in a manner, and helps users quick launch apps that they require on a daily basis. Furthermore, Android 13 will also feature the iPad like drag and drop feature, which lets users take an image from their gallery and simply drag and drop it on a messaging app when used in a split screen mode.

Google

This split screen interface is even reflected in the notification tray that now drops down to two halves. One contains all the necessary quick action settings while the other houses all of the notifications. Another interesting feature showcased was the “swipe up to overview,” which allows you to quickly check the apps that are running on the background. Notably, Google also announced that it will be optimizing and updating more than 20 of its apps to better work with Android 13 powered tablets.

OnePlus plans on launching its first foldable smartphone in 2023: Tipster

While foldable phones have been around for sometime now, a number of brands have yet to launch their own iterations of this breed of smartphones. But now, a new report has revealed that OnePlus will soon be launching its first foldable smartphone as well.

OnePlus

The news arrives from tipster Max Jambor who shared an image on Twitter. This picture hinted that the Chinese smartphone maker apparently plans on launching a foldable handset sometime next year. Furthermore, the tipster also revealed to PhoneArena that “multiple” foldable smartphones are on their way as well. As of right now, it is unknown what design the upcoming foldable phone will feature. Although, there have been rumors that OnePlus will launch at least one model that is similar to the Oppo Find N.

The Find N has a vertical hinge with a form factor that is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. In other words, it features a primary display that folds inwards along with a secondary external display. It is also possible that OnePlus may launch a smaller and more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which has a clamshell folding design. There is even a tri fold design that has been seen in Samsung patents, but this model is unlikely to make its way with the first wave of OnePlus foldable phones.

OnePlus
OPPO Find N

Recently, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi have launched their own iterations of devices with flexible displays. However, these phones were only limited to the Chinese market and have yet to make their way to the international market. This means that OnePlus has a lot of potential to fill this gap in the international market since it typically launches all of its models for its home and overseas market.

Fanttik X8 Air Tyre Inflator Review: Compact and Useful

After making a big impact with their high-end X8 Apex Air inflator, the young brand Fanttik has launched another tyre inflator in the series, the entry-level X8 Air inflator. The company seems to have adopted some consumer suggestions and redesigned the air inflator to be more portable and easier to use.

The new X8 reserved power inflation and many of the same features as the premium X8 Apex but surprisingly at a lower price point.

Fanttik X8 Air Inflator review 02

Compared to the X8 Apex, the X8 air inflator is even more compact and well-built. It inherits the design style of the X8 Apex. The X8 is divided into two parts on the front: the upper part of the LED panel showing the battery level, air pressure, and inflating modes, and the lower part retains exactly the same control buttons as the X8 Apex.

As it is comparable in size to a power bank, it can not only be a useful tool in your car trunk, but even can be a portable emergency tool in your pocket. The 5.5-inch x 3.35-inch x 1.7-inch unit just redefined our view of a full-functioned air inflator.

Fanttik X8 Air Inflator review 04 Like the X8 Apex, the new X8 packaging also includes an air tube with different valve adaptors for inflating cars, motorcycles, bicycles and balls. And thanks to the high-performance chip and 150psi high-pressure capacity, the inflating speed achieves up to 15L/min for different inflating demands. Although we didn’t inflate everything mentioned in their promotion, it seems the impressive maximum pressure of 150psi could cover most stuffs in daily life.

In the actual test, it could fully inflate a motorcycle tire in just around 2 mins.

With the 5200mAh battery, it supports inflating more than 2 standard car tires from 0-100%, or more than 4 motorcycle tires or 7 bicycle tires, or 26 basketballs in each full charge.

Fanttik X8 Air Inflator review 01

To make it easy to use for novices, the X8 also comes with four smart modes – Car, Motorcycle, Bicycle, and Ball with typical preset pressure. Or if you knew the exact pressure you want in the tire, the manual mode would be a better option for you. Once you choose the right adaptor with the preset readout or the mode you want, just press the power button and the inflation will be done quickly.

One of the biggest problems of compact air inflators is poor accuracy, but the X8 seems to fix it well for professional use. Fanttik claims that the current and target pressure readouts are shown on the LED screen with ±1psi accuracy. When you need your tires to be safe to run on a specific road, the good accuracy won’t disappoint you.

Fanttik X8 Air Inflator review 06

Now if you’re still confused about buying the X8 or X8 Apex, here are my suggestions. Compared to the X8 Apex, the compact X8 costs less but has a smaller battery capacity with a slower inflation speed (X8 Apex: 7800mAh+32L/min). And it cannot charge other devices acting as a power bank, since the single USB-C port doesn’t support power out. On the other hand, the X8 is upgraded with built-in flashlights on the top, which are much brighter and more useful as a hand torch for emergency use. So if you’re satisfied with the changes in details, the cheaper X8 could be a better option.

But it has the same problem as we experienced on the X8 Apex, which is the noise. Although not as loud as the X8 Apex, it’s still a bit loud during working. Again, I would still suggest avoid using it at places and times when you need to be quiet. But if you’ve used other traditional inflation devices and compare it with them, the noise is quite bearable.

Fanttik X8 Air Inflator review 08

To conclude, the X8 air inflator retains almost all the important features inside its compact body. As a simplified model in the X8 series, it does the job well, and more importantly, offers a cheaper option for those who require the basic features from an air inflator. It will be a useful tool and excellent companion for people on their driving or riding journeys. And even if most of you, just like me, don’t hit the road often, it would still be a reliable tool in the garage and one day it will come in handy.

Google’s upcoming premium Android-powered Pixel Tablet to launch next year

Google is attempting to re-enter the tablet market after the Pixel Slate was widely criticized, and then the company stopped making tablets. Now, the search engine giant confirmed its upcoming Pixel Tablet at the Google I/O 2022.

During the hardware presentation at Google I/O, the company teased a new product named Google Pixel Tablet, which is a premium Android-powered device and is set to get launched sometime next year.

Google Pixel Tablet

Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices and Services at Google, said that the upcoming Pixel Tablet is a premium device that will come powered by the company’s custom Tensor chips, similar to the latest Pixel series smartphones.

It appears that the company is making this new device as a consumer-focused gadget, especially for entertainment and consumption, rather than focusing on work. Apart from that, nothing is known about the upcoming tablet, not even details about the screen size, memory configuration, camera sensor, or software features.

But the renders have revealed what we should expect in terms of design. Based on the renders of the upcoming Pixel Tablet showcased by the company, it looks like the display is taken off from Google’s Nest Hub.

In the software department, the Pixel Tablet will be running the Android operating system out-of-the-box but a special version built for larger screens. The company has also promised to rebuild more than 20 of its own apps for large-screen devices, and some major third-party apps like Facebook, TikTok, Zoom and others will also be optimized.

Given that the Pixel Tablet is still far away from getting launched officially, it’s too early to get details about the product. But we expect to see leaks related to the tablet surface online in the coming months.

Google previews its upcoming Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro flagship smartphones

Google kicked off its annual developers’ conference and during event, the company revealed information about the upcoming flagship smartphones from the brand.

It revealed that the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones would be officially getting launched later this fall. Apart from that, the search engine giant has also shared some of the key details and features of the devices.

Google Pixel 7 Series Flagship Smartphones

Google confirmed that the upcoming flagship smartphones would come powered by the company’s own next-generation Tensor chipset. The set of sensors remains the same in the camera department as its precessors, and so does the horizontal camera bar on the back.

But the camera bar on the phone’s back panel has been updated and is now made of aluminum and runs across the side rails. In the software department, the devices will come running the latest Android 13 operating system out-of-the-box.

It also appears that the company has ditched the two-tone color design on the back panel for the upcoming Pixel 7 series smartphones. Apart from this information, the company has not revealed much about the devices.

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Based on the rumors and leaks so far, the Google Pixel 7 Pro smartphone could feature a 6.7-inch or 6.8-inch curved OLED display with an LTPO panel and have a QHD+ screen resolution (1440p) with support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

Despite the current-generation models facing issues, it is also expected to continue offering an under-display fingerprint sensor. It is expected to be powered by the second-generation Google Tensor chipset and offer up to 512GB of internal storage.

Some reports have revealed that the Google Pixel 7 series is expected to come in Stormy Black, Sorta SeaFoam, and Cloudy White shades. While the smartphones are expected to launch after autumn this year, the technology giant has not yet shared more information, including pricing and availability.
