The Vivo X Fold foldable smartphone is running the Android 12 operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own custom user interface on top. It is powered by a 4,600mAh battery which supports 66W fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
Huawei entered the foldable phone market by announcing the Huawei Mate X in February 2019. The Mate Xs was made official in 2020 as an updated edition of the predecessor model. Both devices flaunted an outward folding design. The Mate X2 and Mate X2 4G that came in recent years were made available with an in-ward folding design. Today, the company confirmed that it will be launching a new device named the Huawei Mate Xs 2 on April 28 in China. Ahead of the launch, a Chinese tipster leaked the design and key features of the device.
The official poster released by Huawei teases the design of the Mate Xs 2. The moniker of the device suggests that it will have a design similar to the Mate Xs model from the past.
Huawei Mate Xs 2 leaked images
The Huawei Mate Xs 2 leaked images shared by Chinese tipster Geek_Cao give a good look at its outward folding design. The images also show that the device will be available in three colors: black, white, and purple.
The Mate Xs 2’s display can be seen sporting a punch-hole design. As far as durability is concerned, the tipster claims that its screen will have multiple buffer layers to protect it from damage against drops. The company will probably drop test the device to show off its durability.
The rear camera setup of the device will have a 50-megapixel primary camera. It will be accompanied by a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera. The tipster claims that it is unclear which 4G processor will be powering the device. Past reports have claimed that it may feature the Kirin 9000 4G or Snapdragon 888 4G chipset.
The TENAA listing of the device revealed that it comes with HarmonyOS 2.0.1 and a 4,500mAh battery. The device is expected to carry support for 66W rapid charging.

Galaxy M53 5G
Design & Display
Similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy M52, the Galaxy M53 also features an Infinity O display on the front. The latest iteration also has a flat screen on the front with a center aligned punch hole cutout for the selfie camera and rounded corners. However, unlike the previous generation, the rear camera module is now a square shape with a quad sensors, rather than the vertically stacked model on the Galaxy M52. The device sports a 6.7 inch SuperAMOLED Plus display that has a FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate as well. Notably, the bezels are quite thin but the bottom chin is a bit noticeable.
Specifications
Under the hood, the South Korean tech giant’s newly unveiled Galaxy M53 5G is packed with the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 900 octa core processor that is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This storage can be further expanded by up to 1TB thanks to a MicroSD card slot. The smartphone is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports 25W fast charging as well.
Other features include sub 6GHz 5G support, dual SIM slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, and GPS. It runs on the Android 12 OS based One UI 4.1 out of the box and also houses a side mounted fingerprint scanner for security. Notably, the company is also offering Knox data security to ensure users’ data stay protected.
Cameras
One of the key highlighting aspects of the Galaxy M53 5G is undoubtedly its 108 megapixel primary camera. As we mentioned above, it is the first Galaxy M handset that features such a large sensor. It is also paired with an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, a 2 megapixel depth camera, and another 2 megapixel macro sensor as well. Meanwhile, the front houses a 32 megapixel selfie shooter. Interestingly, both the front and rear camera on the Galaxy M53 5G supports 4K video recording at 30fps.

Apple HomePod smart speaker could be getting a major new feature in the next-generation model and reports revealing that information has now started surfacing online.
If the latest reports are to be believed, then the Cupertino-based technology giant is working on a revamped HomePod smart speaker which will act as a smart display with a built-in camera.
It is also being claimed that the next-generation HomePod with support for Face ID could come powered by the company’s own tvOS. The report adds that Apple is planning to add a built-in camera to the speaker for handling FaceTime conversations.
Being a smart speaker with a display and a camera, the next-generation model could compete against the likes of Google Nest Hub Max and the Amazon Echo Show, both of which are smart speakers with a display, camera, and a voice assistant.
While there are reports about this new HomePod with Face ID powered by tvOS, there’s not much information available at this time. Even the launch timeline of such a product remains unknown. Thus, it is highly unlikely to get unveiled at WWDC this year but the company could tease such a product at WWDC or reveal some more information about it.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand is working on the Redmi Note 12 series of smartphones. Like its predecessor models, the lineup may include multiple devices. Two of them have been reportedly spotted in the database of the TENAA certification platform. The listings have revealed details like dimensions, display size, and battery capacity.
The screenshots of the TENAA listings shared by the tipster Digital Chat Station show model numbers such as 22041216C and 22041216UC. Both devices were seen at the CMIIT certification site earlier this month. The TENAA listings show that both devices have the same dimensions and display size.

Redmi Note 12 TENAA
The 22041216C and 22041216UC devices have a 6.6-inch display, which probably supports a Full HD+ resolution. The 22041216C variant has a 4,980mAh (rated value) battery, whereas the 22041216UC model has a 4,300mAh (rated value) battery. Both are preinstalled with the Android 12 OS, and they measure 163.64 x 74.29 x 8.8mm.
The 22041216UC device, which packs a larger battery, is likely to arrive with better specs than the 22041216C variant. It is expected to arrive with faster-charging capabilities. Last year, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G carried support for 120W fast charging. Hence, it is likely the 22041216UC model may come with a similar charging solution.
The rumor mill has yet to reveal concrete information on the specs of the Note 12 lineup. However, it is speculated that it will be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity series of chipsets. Hence, it is likely that the lineup may include the Dimensity 1300 or Dimensity 8000 SoC.
The TENAA listings for the 22041216C and 22041216UC are expected to be populated with the remaining specifications in the coming days. The Note 12 lineup is expected to debut as early as next month (May) in China.
Chinese company BOE has reportedly inked a deal with Cupertino-based tech giant Apple for the production of the iPhone 14 display. The deal is reported to be worth 50 million yuan ($7.75 million) and will see BOE producing up to a quarter of the OLED displays for iPhone 14. BOE is China’s leading OLED manufacturer and the second in the world after Samsung.
BOE will provide the 6.1-inch panels that will be present in the vanilla iPhone 14 models only. Higher models from the upcoming iPhone 14 series are excluded from the arrangement. These higher models (iPhone 14 Pro, Max, etc) will still be catered for by LG and Samsung. The new business is a boon for BOE which is entering the current iPhone production trajectory for the first time. BOE however already has a functional partnership with Apple for the production of replacement versions of current models and panels for older iPhones.
BOE is also reported to have made inroads into the iPad and MacBook production with reports that it will supply OLED panels for next-generation iPads and MacBooks. The new Apple-BOE partnership will see BOE expanding its Sichuan plant to meet the demand, as well as equipping it with the requisite power requirements.
BOE is riding on the back of a very strong performance in OLED panels’ development and production within the last year. BOE had a 60% increase in OLED production last year to cement its leading position in the market.

The Redmi 10 already existed, but the Xiaomi sub-brand decided to launch a new version for the Indian market. It is definitely a great budget phone with those new specifications, but it has a lot of competitors. One of these is surely the Motorola Moto G22: one of the best camera phones in the entry-level segment. Given that you can currently find these two devices in the same price range, it is very hard for a lot of people to choose the best for their actual needs. This comparison between the specifications of the Redmi 10 and the Motorola Moto G22 will help you to understand which one is the best for you and which one has the highest value for money.
The design of the Motorola Moto G22 is a bit more elegant thanks to its reflective back and its camera module with the same color as the rest of the body. You should also consider the presence of a punch-hole display instead of that waterdrop notch found on the Redmi 10. Further, the Motorola Moto G22 is a thinner and lighter phone than its Xiaomi rival, and it has a water repellent body. Last but not least, it is more compact because it sports a smaller display. Are these reasons enough to let the Moto G22 win the design comparison or do you need more?
Display
The Redmi 10 and the Motorola Moto G22 are not so impressive if we talk about the displays. The Redmi 10 comes with a wider 6.7-inch panel, better for productivity, and it is more resistant thanks to the Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The Motorola Moto G22 has a smaller display but it adds the 90 Hz refresh rate instead of the standard 60 Hz, so you can get a smoother viewing experience, and that is great for gaming. For the rest, they are pretty much the same: two below-average (but sufficient) IPS LCD panels with HD+ resolutions. The fingerprint reader of the Xiaomi budget phone is rear-mounted, while the Motorola handset has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Hardware/Software
If you are looking for better CPU and GPU performance, as well as lower energy consumption, then you should opt for the Redmi 10. It is powered by the Snapdragon 680 4G mobile platform built at 6 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz. A definitely better chipset than the MediaTek Helio G37 found on the Motorola Moto G22, built at 12 nm and with a max frequency of 2.3 GHz. The Redmi 10 also offers more RAM (up to 6 GB) and more native storage (up to 128 GB, expandable with a micro SD slot). On the other hand, the Motorola Moto G22 comes with Android 12 out of the box instead of the older Android 11.
Camera
The Motorola Moto G22 is a superior camera phone. The main cameras of these two devices are the same, with a 50 MP resolution, but the Moto G22 adds an 8 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP macro camera, while the only secondary sensor of the Redmi 10 is a 2 MP depth sensor. Further, the Motorola budget phone has a better 16 MP selfie camera, while the Xiaomi low cost is pretty disappointing with its 5 MP snapper.
Battery
The Redmi 10 wins the battery life comparison thanks to the presence of a huge 6000 mAh battery supporting 18W fast charging. But with its 5000 mAh, the Motorola Moto G22 is still a good battery phone.
Xiaomi Redmi 10 vs Motorola Moto G22: Price
The Motorola Moto G22 is available in India with a listing price of Rs. 10,999 / $144, while the Redmi 10 starts from Rs. 11,999 / $157. The prices are referred to the memory configurations with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage (and it is the only configuration available for the G22). While the Redmi 10 offers a better processor and battery, the Motorola device comes with better cameras and display: which one would you pick? It mostly depends on your needs, but generally, better cameras give mobile phones a higher value.

It seems Samsung has made sufficient progress that could see it release a Galaxy VR headset. A new trademark filing by the Korea-based tech powerhouse shows that it is working on a virtual reality headset. Samsung will be joining the class of brands that are developing or have such products including Google and Apple and Facebook (now Meta).
The trajectory of the development of virtual reality has been a mixed bag of successes and drawbacks, but Samsung seems to be making significant progress in this regard. Samsung’s Gear VR headsets were its first products when it forayed into the VR space. The company seems to be investing in further developments of VR functionality with a Galaxy VR headset in the offing. The trademark filing was revealed by LetsGoDigital.
The latest trademark filing was on March 30, 2022, at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). Another Samsung filing has been traced to 2018 in Austria bearing the same name. There have been indications that Samsung was working on a Galaxy VR headset for some time now. Indeed, back in February during the Mobile World Congress, Samsung’s CEO Han Jong-hee gave the hint of a VR device. The latest trademark filing could be a pointer to the imminent launch of the Galaxy VR headset.
There has not been any official confirmation yet from Samsung on the VR headset in development. The coming weeks will provide better illumination on the current trajectory of Samsung’s VR project.

South Korean tech giant Samsung has now officially announced its Exynos 1280 chipset which has already been deployed in some Galaxy smartphones. The Exynos 1280 powers the Galaxy A33, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy M33 mid-range smartphones.
The Exynos 1280 is produced from the 5nm EUV process. It has 2 Cortex-A78 which clock at 2.4GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 at 2.0GHz. The CPU is 64-bit, while its GPU is Arm Mali-G68. The AI engine comes with an onboard neural processing unit (NPU) 4.3 TOPS. The Exynos 1280 has a 5G modem and supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. The specs also include a 108MP camera, 16MP triple camera setup, and 4K video recording. The display is FHD+ with a 120Hz display refresh rate. The memory and storage of the chip are LPDDR4x/UFS 2.2.
The Samsung Exynos 1280 is produced by Samsung Foundry and it is optimized with Fused Multiply-Add (FMA) technology. Power consumption and battery life are also enhanced with the new chipset due to its efficient setup. The multi-frame image processing capabilities of the Exynos 1280 provide clearer images with less noise. The chipset has already debuted in some Samsung Galaxy mid-rangers and other brands may tap it into their architecture.
The Android OS, for a long time, has a feature that the competitor OS – iOS – lacks. We are talking about none other than the call recording feature. While some Android users rely on the native call recording feature, others have to depend on the third-party apps available on the Play Store. However, call recording on Android phones will soon stop, but now entirely.
Google recently updated its Play Store policy which has several changes that will come into effect from May 11. One of the significant changes that the policy brings will have a major effect on call recording applications that are available on the Play Store.
As per Google’s new Play Store policy (via), the Accessibility API cannot be requested for remote call audio recording, meaning that apps won’t be allowed to get permission for call recordings. This could mean that popular apps like TrueCaller, Automatic Call Recorder, Cube ACR, and others won’t work.
However, if your Android phone’s dialer has a call recording feature by default, then you can still record calls. Google has revealed that a pre-loaded call recording app or a feature does not require accessibility permissions, thus the native call recordings will work.
“If the app is the default dialer on the phone and also pre-loaded, accessibility capability is not required to get access to the incoming audio stream, and hence, will not be in violation,” said a presenter of a webinar held by Google.
As of now, the Google Pixel, Xiaomi , Oppo, OnePlus, and Samsung come with a default call recorder on their native dialer apps. So, if you own phones from any of these brands, you don’t need to panic.

The new Garmin smartwatch comes in two sizes and has a battery that offers up to 7 days of activity on a full charge. The Garmin Vivosmart 5 is available on order from Amazon for $149.99.
With a 66% improvement in the display size from its predecessor, the Garmin Vivosmart 5 measures 10.5mm x 18.5mm. It has a resolution of 88 x 154 pixels. The OLED panel thus offers a better display of text than the Vivosmart 4. The larger display also means that the touchscreen is easier to use. The physical button in the Garmin Vivosmart 5 is below the display, but this is absent in the Garmin Vivosmart 4.
Owners of the Garmin Vivosmart 5 can replace the bracelets of their unit, in addition to extended use of the smartwatch for up to 7 days before needing to recharge. The battery life is reduced with pulse ox sleep tracking functional. The Vivosmart 5 is well-suited for swimming activities and it is capable of storing up to two weeks of activity data. Apart from pulse ox and sleep tracking, the Vivosmart 5 also offers heart rate monitoring, SpO2, and other health and fitness features. A GPS module is however lacking in the device for enhanced fitness tracking.
Both the small/medium and large sizes of the Garmin Vivosmart 5 are sold at $149.99 on Garmin’s website. The smaller model comes in black, cool mint, and white options of the bracelet. The larger smartwatch comes only in black for now. It remains to be seen how the Garmin Vivosmart 5 sits in the market and whether it will have decent reception.
