Apple MacBook Pro powered by M2 chipset won’t feature ProMotion display

After launching the M1 chipset under Apple Silicon a couple of years back with the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro devices, the Cupertino-based tech giant is now gearing up to launch the second-generation processor based on ARM architecture.

There have been some reports about the M2 chipset powering the new MacBook series models and now another report has surfaced online that talks about the feature we can expect from the new M2-powered MacBook Pro.

Apple MacBook Pro

In the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, it is claimed that the new entry-level MacBook Pro with the yet unannounced Apple M2 chipset won’t feature a ProMotion display that we saw on the recent 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.

The report adds that the lack of ProMotion display on the upcoming entry-level MacBook Pro models is to differentiate it from the M1 Pro and M1 Max-powered models. Apart from the screen, the company could also compromise on storage.

It is expected to feature an LCD screen while the new MacBook Air powered by the M2 processor is said to come with a Mini LED display. This means that the device won’t have support for ProMotion or a variable 120Hz refresh rate.

Apart from the MacBook Pro, the upcoming Apple M2 chipset will refresh all the M1-powered devices, including the entry-level MacBook Air, Mac Mini, and a 24-inch iMac. While the launch date for these devices remains unknown, we expect to see a refreshed version of all of them by the end of this year.

The company also has a wide range of devices ready to launch this year and we are expecting to see Apple complete the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon for its Mac lineup.

Apple AirPods Max 2 could have touch controls instead of digital crown

Apple launched the AirPods Max, its wireless headphones with a sturdy metal build and support for active noise cancellation feature. Now, the Cupertino-based technology giant is expected to launch its successor this year.

There have been some reports about the improvements that we could expect in the upcoming AirPods Max 2 headphones and now a new patent filed by the company hints at the introduction of touch controls.

Apple AirPods Max

Apple has filed for a new patent (via Patently Apple) titled “Wireless Headphone Interaction” that would replace the digital crown with a touch-sensitive surface. Currently, Apple is using a digital crown for audio controls on the AirPods Max.

Earlier, the technology giant was granted a patent related to smart fabrics with touch controls for over-the-ear headphones. There have been two more patents from the brand for providing users with touch gesture input on the outside of the ear cups.

Connecting the dots, it appears that the company is now working on offering touch-based controls for the upcoming AirPods Max 2 headphones by replacing the digital crown. Do note that this hasn’t been confirmed and even Apple gets the patent, there’s no guarantee that it ends up using this technology for the upcoming headphones.

Apple is also likely to launch the AirPods Pro 2 true wireless earphones in the coming months. If the reports are to be believed, then there will be a revamped design and a new chip replacing the H1, resulting in improved battery life. It is also expected to have seamless switching between connected devices. They are also rumored to have built-in sensors for fitness tracking features.

New Honor 60 series phone’s launch date to be confirmed tomorrow

Back in December 2021, Honor announced the Honor 60 and Honor 60 Pro smartphones in China. While the company was rumored to launch the Honor 60 SE at that time, it wasn’t announced alongside the Honor 60 and 60 Pro. Today, Honor China CMO Jiang Hairong Harrison took to Weibo to confirm that the firm will be announcing a new Honor 60 series product tomorrow (on Feb. 8). It can be said based on recent reports that the launch date of the Honor 60 SE might get confirmed tomorrow.

Honor 60 SE case renders

The Honor 60 SE name is yet to be confirmed, but since the company had launched the Honor 50 SE last year, it seems that the next Honor 60 series phone could be called the Honor 60 SE. In December, an Honor smartphone with the model number GIA-AN00 model number was approved by China’s 3C agency. The same device was seen at the Geekbench benchmarking site recently. Speculations are rife that the GIA-AN00 Honor phone may break cover as the Honor 60 SE.

Honor 60 SE case renders

The 3C listing of the GIA-AN00 revealed that it may arrive with support for 66W fast charging. The device scored 3314 in the single-core test of Geekbench 4, and it recorded a score of 8287 in the multi-test. The listing revealed that the device is powered by the Dimensity 900 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. The device is likely to run on Android 11 and the latest Magic UI. Shown above are the Honor 60 SE case renders that were spotted in the recent past.

To recollect, the Honor 60 and Honor 60 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 778G and Snapdragon 778G Plus, respectively. Hence, it appears that the Honor 60 SE will be positioned below the existing Honor 60 series smartphones. Reports have claimed that the Honor X40i could be the other phone that may go official with the Honor 60 SE.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 1TB storage model to launch in select markets only

Samsung is gearing up to launch the next-generation Galaxy S-series flagship smartphones in a couple of days. While most of the details about the upcoming phones have been leaked, there’s still a mystery surrounding the 1TB storage model.

There have been contradicting reports about the arrival of a 1TB storage model for the Galaxy S22 Ultra model and now it seems we have an answer. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with 1TB internal storage is apparently coming, but to select markets only.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Teaser

According to the latest report, the 1TB storage model of the premium Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone will be available in South Korea and China. Previously, it was claimed that the 1TB model will come to the European market as well.

Since there has been no mention of Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 1TB storage model in the leaks for the US market, it’s possible that the United States might miss out on this top-end version, at least for the initial weeks. The company may decide to introduce it after some time.

Apart from the United States, there could be some other regions that might miss out on the top-end model, including the Middle East and India. However, there has been no confirmation about this and it’s just speculation at this time.

Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with support for HDR10+, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 1,750nits peak brightness.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset or the Samsung Exynos 2200 processor, depending on the region. If the reports are to be believed, then this time, there will be more regions getting the Qualcomm-powered model.

In the camera department, there will be a quad-camera setup with a 108MP (f/1.8) primary camera, a 12MP (f/2.2) ultrawide camera, and a couple of 10MP telephoto cameras with f/2.4 and f/4.9 apertures. The flagship smartphone will also come with support for 8K Super HDR video recording.

It will be running the latest Android 12 operating system with Samsung One UI on top. The device will come with a 5000mAh battery size and support 45W fast charging which will be the highest yet for a Samsung smartphone.

Xiaomi-backed Redmi is gearing up to launch its next-generation K-series smartphones in its home market — the Redmi K50 lineup. It includes devices ranging from mid-range to the premium category.

Ahead of the launch, there have been several leaks related to these upcoming devices and now we have got some more leaks. The latest leak reveals the pricing details for the upcoming Redmi K50 series smartphones in the Chinese market.

Redmi K50 Gaming

According to the leak, the Redmi K50 will have a starting price of 1,999 yuan (~$315) while the Pro model will carry a starting price of 2,699 yuan (~$426). The Redmi K50 Pro+ is claimed to start at 3,299 yuan ($521). The most powerful model in the lineup, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition will be priced at 3,499 yuan (~$553).

Two models out of the four will be powered by Qualcomm’s chipset. The Redmi K50 will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset while the Gaming Edition will pack the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

On the other hand, the Redmi K50 Pro will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8000 chipset while the Pro+ model will be powered by the Dimensity 9000 SoC. While K50 and K50 Pro will have 66W and 67W charging support, the Pro+ and Gaming Edition models will have support for 120W fast charging.

Three of these four smartphone models have already passed through the TENAA certification process in China, which indicates that the launch date isn’t far away. A model of this series has also appeared on the BIS database, which could indicate its launch in the Indian market soon after its debut in China.

The company has not yet announced the launch date for the Redmi K50 series smartphone but we expect the device to go official later this month and thus an official confirmation should come in a few days.

Purported iPhone SE 3 images appear online but are likely fake

An unnamed source has released some images of the yet-to-be-released iPhone SE 3 which shows a little departure from the iPhone SE design. The images, if authentic, provide the strongest indication yet that it is not far off design-wise from the current iPhone SE model.iPhone SE 3

The source of the images revealed the details to Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser and could be viewed on the Genius Bar podcast. Although the quality of the images was restrictive since Prosser displayed them from his iPad, we could see a clear resemblance to the iPhone SE. These are the first real-life images of the iPhone SE 3, although we cannot say authoritatively that these images were authentic. The iPhone SE 3 is meant to be a budget smartphone with some of the exciting functionalities that we have come to know the Apple brand for.

Apple will update some of the interior components of the new iPhone SE 3 to distinguish it from its predecessor. It comes with a 4.7-inch display, a Touch ID button, and thick bezels. Likely to be powered by an A15 Bionic chipset, the iPhone SE 3 will offer 5G connectivity and will not have flagship capabilities, partly due to price considerations. The camera setup of the iPhone SE 3 also provides a better output than the iPhone SE 2020.iPhone SE 3

The Apple iPhone SE 3 could be part of the lineup of devices that will be showcased in the upcoming Apple event in a couple of months. The Apple spring unveiling event could include the iPad Pro 22, iPad Air 5, and possibly an iMac model. The Apple iPhone 14 lineup is already scheduled for a fall 2022 unveiling. They are a lot of details still lacking for the iPhone SE 3 including pricing information and global availability. These details will start coming to the fore as we inch closer to the eventual unveiling of the iPhone SE 3.

Redmi 9A receives January 2022 Security Patch Update, Stable MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition based on Android 11

Xiaomi has a history of providing high price-to-performance devices for the cheap, and one might think that software support would be compromised to achieve this price point. However the developer team behind MIUI have not disapppointed, and they are pushing both OS and security updates to the almost 2-year-old entry-level Redmi 9A as of February 2022.

Redmi 9A

The Redmi 9A was initially launched in Europe in July 2020 for 99 Euros and it came with MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out of the box. Since then, it has been receiving quarterly security updates to keep the phone safe in the interconnected 21st century at all times.

As of Feb 5, 2022, the Redmi 9A has received a major OS update, which is the stable Global MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update based on Android 11. The latest update is said to bring swift performance and more battery life on a single charge based on the changelog.

The new update brings what Xiaomi calls “Atomized Memory” and “Smart Balance” to the Redmi 9A. “Atomized Memory” allows for an ultra-fine memory management mechanism that will make RAM usage more efficient. “Smart Balance” has the core system improvements that allow your device to make the best of the hardware specs inside of it.

Another upgrade the update brings is the latest security patch from Google, the January 2022 security patch to the Redmi 9A, keeping your data secure from malware online.

The size of the update is 1.9GB in total, and users are recommended to check their storage first before downloading the update, since the Redmi 9A was only launched in a 2GB+32GB configuration. As for other specs, the Redmi 9A was also launched with a MediaTek Helio G25, 6.53” LCD Display and a 5000mAh battery.

iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air 5 may have Gone into Mass Production, iPhone SE will Not Support MagSafe

Apple conventionally organises three highlighting events in a calendar year which are its Spring Launch Event held in March or April, its annual WWDC conference held in June, and its Fall Launch Event in September or October. Apple’s Spring Launch Events may not bring as much attention as its flagship Fall Events, but Spring is normally when Apple launches its more affordable offerings for its users such as the Apple Airtags and iPhone SE lineup.

In 2022, Apple is rumoured to announce the iPhone SE (3rd generation), the successor of the iPhone SE (2nd generation) released back in April 2020, and the iPad Air (5th generation), the successor of the iPad Air (4th generation) released back in September 2020, at its yearly anticipated Spring Launch Event.

Macotakara, a Japanese tech platform with connections to Asian technology supply chain manufacturers, published a post that according to its reliable Chinese sources, the designs of the iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air 5 have been officially confirmed and both devices have now gone into mass production in the region.

Macotakara also shared several upcoming details of the iPhone SE 3 in their posting as well. The iPhone SE 3 is said to sport the same compact housing as its predecessor, the iPhone SE 2, and the glass and aluminium chassis is to remain unchanged from its predecessor as well.

Another surprising news is that the Apple iPhone SE 3 will not include support for MagSafe. Instead, the device will only support conventional Qi Wireless Charging introduced back on the iPhone 8. MagSafe was introduced back on the iPhone 12 series to provide faster and more reliable wireless charging for iPhone users and every iPhone announced since then has had this feature.

MagSafe-Charger-Promo-Image

The main upgrade of the iPhone SE 3 will be the performance under the hood. The iPhone SE 3 is said to come with 5G connectivity support and will be equipped with the Apple A15 Bionic chip, the same one found on the iPhone 13 series.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs Vivo X70 Pro+: Specs Comparison

OnePlus does not want compromises and it recently came up with one of the most stunning flagships of the year if we exclude the absence of water resistance. We are referring to the OnePlus 10 Pro, a device that reconfirms the partnership with Hasselblad and hits the shelves with top-tier specifications. But it will have a lot of competition this year, that is the reason why we are comparing it with all the best flagships out there. After comparing it to the iQOO 9 Pro, this is a comparison between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the main Vivo flagship: the Vivo X70 Pro+. Is the new OnePlus flagship able to compete with the most advanced Vivo phone to date? This comparison will let you find out.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES 5G, dual SIM, reverse wireless charging 5G, dual SIM, IP68 waterproof, reverse wireless charging

Design

Both the companies paid a lot of attention to the design of their latest flagships. The Vivo X70 Pro+ comes with big dimensions but also higher build quality. There are different color options to choose from, including one with different materials. You can choose the glass back or the leather variant which is definitely one of the most impressive phones aesthetically. Further, unlike the OnePlus 10 Pro, it is waterproof and dustproof with the IP68 certification. I personally prefer the leather variant of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus to the OnePlus 10 Pro. Which one would you choose?

Display

The specifications of the two panels are very similar, at least on the paper. The only advantage of the OnePlus 10 Pro is the so-called LTPO 2.0 technology which lowers the energy consumption coming from the panel. But for the rest, these devices do not differ too much. They have two AMOLED panels with a Quad HD+ resolution of 1440p, up to one billion colors, a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and the HDR10+ certification, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader. Both the phones feature great stereo speakers for an awesome audio experience.

Specs & Software

OnePlus 10 Pro is able to provide higher performance than Vivo X70 Pro Plus thanks to its superior chipset: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform is actually the best Qualcomm SoC. It is built at 4 nm and it runs at a max frequency of 3 GHz; on the OnePlus 10 Pro, it is paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage (UFS 3.1). You can get more internal storage with the Vivo X70 Pro Plus (up to 512 GB) and the same amount of RAM, but the processor is inferior: we are talking about the Snapdragon 888 Plus, a slight upgrade of the Snapdragon 888, currently the best Qualcomm chipset after the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. While the OnePlus flagship ships with Android 12, the Vivo one runs Android 11 out of the box, but it can be updated.

Camera

The most advanced camera phone of this comparison is the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, which is also one of the most impressive camera phones out there and has nothing to envy to Samsung and Apple flagships. It has a 50 MP main sensor with a bright f/1.6 focal aperture and gimbal OIS, an 8 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, a 12 MP telephoto sensor for portraits with 2x optical zoom, and a 48 MP ultrawide camera with OIS. The cameras include Zeiss optics and support 8K video recording. The OnePlus 10 Pro is still an amazing camera phone, but it can not compete with the Vivo X70 Pro Plus.

Battery

The OnePlus 10 Pro wins the battery life comparison thanks to its bigger 5000 mAh battery and more efficient components (LTPO 2.0 display and 4 nm chipset). It even features a faster wired charging technology (80W).

Price

The starting price of the Vivo X70 Pro+ in China roughly translates into €720/$825, while the OnePlus 10 Pro starts from €650/$745. While the OnePlus flagship provides a superior chipset and a bigger battery, I personally believe that the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is a more interesting device due to its amazing cameras including a periscope sensor and a waterproof body. If you want a better camera phone, go for the X70 Pro Plus, while the OP10 Pro represents a better option for gamers and power users.

OnePlus 10 Ultra concept renders surface after early patent leaks

Earlier this week, we got our first potential glimpse at the rumored OnPlus 10 Ultra through patent sketches. Now, Jermaine Smit aka Concept Creator, in collaboration with LetsGoDigital has made the concept renders of the upcoming OnePlus 10 Ultra based on earlier patent sketches and rumored specs of the device.

The front of the device looks similar to the OnePlus 10 Pro with a rounded display and narrow narrow edges. The display has a punch-hole cutout present on the top left corner for the selfie camera. The volume rocker is located on the left spine while, the right side houses the power button along with the signature OnePlus alert slider.

The back panel houses a rectangular camera island which extends to the side of the device, similar to the one found on the OnePlus 10 Pro. However, the camera setup has some notable changes. It will presumably come with a 48MP wide-angle camera and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera for the top two lenses. The device is expected to come with the MariSilicon X NUP which was unveiled back in December by the OnePlus parent company, OPPO. The OnePlus 10 Ultra is expected to come with a phrase like “powered by MariSilicon” printed on the camera island, which was also observed in a recent OPPO Find X5 render leaks.

The rectangular shaped cutout is expected to hold a zoom camera which might be the same as the OnePlus 10 Pro with 3.3x zoom capabilities or a superior lens capable of greater zoom.

The device will most likely be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset or can even featured the improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ which is expected to launch later in 2022. The OS offered on the system will likely be the OxygenOS 12 skin which recently got its codebase merged to with OPPO’s ColorOS 12.

Seemingly official image of the Vivo NEX 5 appears online confirming its February launch

Vivo NEX 5 has been appearing in the rumors way often these days. Earlier, the phone’s renders were emerged showcasing the design. Now, a new leak confirms the phone’s launch date and also gives us a closer look at the handset.

A Twitter leakster has shared the first look of the smartphone. Although the picture has been leaked, seemingly it looks like an official poster image. It reveals that the NEX 5 will debut in February 2022.

Vivo NEX 5

Furthermore, it shows off the White color variant of the smartphone. The device has a punch-hole display with only curved sides. This is contrary to the previous rumors that revealed a quad-curved screen. Nevertheless, it still looks impressive considering that it will actually be a big panel.

Moving to the back, the smartphone has the Zeiss optics, one of its highlights. The device has a quad-camera system with the fourth lens, what appears to be a periscope lens. Here, the primary lens is a 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor.

Other than this, the Vivo NEX 5 is rumored to come with a 7-inch or a 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED panel with QHD resolution. It will support a high refresh rate. It is expected to come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and pack a 5,000mAh battery. It will have an 80W fast charging support and a 40W or 50W wireless charging technology.

The Vivo NEX 5’s configurations and variants were also tipped. The device will launch in three configurations – 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB. It is expected to arrive in Earth Gray, Night Black, Blue shade, and White color.

US pilots deploying robot patrol dogs on its southern borders

Border protection and monitoring have remained an integral component of national security for countries. This is more poignant for the United States which has a massive length of border and a mandate to effectively protect it from unauthorized entry. To this end, the United State may have incorporated quadrupedal machines in the form of robot dogs to serve as autonomous sentries at its borders. The testing of the robot patrol dogs is being done in the southern US border according to new details released by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).robot US border

The machines are being tested in a variety of surveillance situations which the Department says has been successful so far. There are no timelines for the full deployment of these autonomous quadrupedal robots but it could come soon, due to the successful tests. The development of these machines will continue according to the DHS, and the southern US border could be a great stage for these machines to excel, given its inhospitable terrain.

The development is being driven by the research and development arm of the DHS, the Science & Technology Directorate, which focuses on Automated Ground Surveillance Vehicles (AGSVs). The machines are built by robotics manufacturer Ghost Robotics, popular for its Ghost Vision 60 robot. The DHS trial robot dogs are fitted with cameras and sensors for inspections and are programmed to autonomously patrol pre-set GPS waypoints. They can inspect train cars at railyards, walk around undercarriages, explore residential buildings, and respond to meeting potentially hostile individuals. They are well suited for the uneven terrain on the border, as they can navigate easily using their four legs. US border

There are still several issues including ethical ones, on the possible deployment of these machines to the US border and interacting with humans, as some activists see it as dehumanizing. This is not the first time that this kind of quadrupedal machine will be deployed in the fight against criminality, but their accuracy and battery life are some of the factors that could slow down the evolution of these robot dogs.

Lady orders an iPhone 13 Pro Max but got a $1 bottle of hand soap instead

A 32-year old woman in London, the United Kingdom was shocked to receive a $1 hand soap delivery instead of an iPhone 13 Pro Max that she ordered for. The news adds to a growing list of buyers who were sent different things from the iPhone that they ordered online.

The woman, named Khaoula Lafhaily purchased the iPhone 13 Pro Max from her mobile carrier Sky Mobile for £1,500 ($2,031) on a 3-year contract. She completed the transaction, but when she received her package two days later, she was shocked to find only a hand sanitizer that is probably priced at $1. Lafhaily had noted that the service delivery of the company was poor, and she is yet to get her iPhone after making a complaint to Sky Mobile.

Lafhaily purchased the iPhone 13 Pro Max on January 24 and paid for a single-day delivery for the device. So the company muddled both the single-day delivery and actual product delivered. Sky Mobile had said it will investigate the woman’s issue, but it is unclear how the investigation has panned out, as the company has not reached out to the woman as of this moment.
