Iconic Nokia Ion Mini canceled in 2014 appears on Twitter

In the wake of the 2014 takeover of Nokia by Microsoft, some products under development were canceled. These included the Nokia Ion Mini (RM-1028) which has now resurfaced. The concept of the design was for a colorful smartphone with a vivid color scheme and projected to run on the Android operating system before Microsoft pulled the plug on its rollout in 2014.

Nokia Ion Mini
Nokia Ion Mini

Thanks to tipster Dimitrios Vlachos, some photos of the Nokia Ion Mini were shared in addition to video content. The Nokia RM-1027 was berthed in 2014 before the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft. The expectation then was that the successor to the Nokia RM-1027 would also run on the Android-like operating system. But this was not to be as Nokia migrated to producing Windows phones and the Nokia RM-1028 known as the Nokia Ion Mini was canceled.

The tipster outlined several features of the rested device as could be seen in the video and photos. The Ion Mini was a simple device that could have been affordably priced. It had a classic small display, one camera at the back. The Nokia Ion Mini was running on the nauOS which is a hybrid Nokia OS. The nauOS was utilized in a few of the Nokia offerings and the video and photos indicated that the device was powered by Qualcomm MSM8226 chipset or Snapdragon 400.

The tipster is also promising more videos and photos of some of the other canceled Nokia phones due to its acquisition by Microsoft in 2014. It is unclear where these details are emanating from. It is also not clear whether any of these canceled phones have found their way outside Nokia.

Design

If you are looking for the design with the most premium materials, then you should choose the Xiaomi 11T Pro. It has a glass back, an aluminum frame, and a front glass protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Besides having a more premium design, it is even more resistant thanks to Gorilla Glass Victus and the IP53 certification which indicates that the phone is dust resistant and splash resistant. The Motorola Edge X30 comes right after with its glass back and water-repellent design, but the OnePlus 9RT 5G is actually the most compact and the thinnest handset because it has a smaller display and a smaller battery.

Display

On the paper, the most advanced display belongs to the Xiaomi 11T Pro. It has an AMOLED panel by Samsung with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, one billion colors, a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and the HDR10+ certification. The phone is also equipped with stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. Right after, we got the Motorola Edge X30 packing a 6.7-inch OLED display with one billion colors, a (higher!) 144 Hz refresh rate, a Full HD+ resolution, and the HDR10+ certification. The OnePlus 9RT 5G comes with an AMOLED screen as well, but it displays a max of 16 million colors. On the other hand, it is the only one with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

With the Motorola Edge X30, you can get the most powerful hardware department in the whole smartphone market. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform offering a solid improvement in performance if compared to the Snapdragon 888, paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Both Xiaomi 11T Pro and OnePlus 9RT 5G are fueled by the Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. The Motorola Edge X30 runs Android 12 out of the box, while its rivals are still based on Android 11.

Camera

The Motorola Edge X30 offers a way more interesting camera setup. It has a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 50 MP secondary ultrawide camera, a 2 MP depth sensor, and an amazing 60 MP front camera. The Motorola Edge X30 Special Edition has an under-display selfie snapper. The silver medal goes to the OnePlus 9RT 5G and its 50 MP main camera with OIS paired with a 16 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP macro camera.

Battery

Motorola Edge X30 should provide the longest battery life due to its 5000 mAh battery and its efficient mobile platform, followed by the Xiaomi 11T Pro. But the latter supports a faster charging technology with a power of 120W.

Price

You need just €420/$475 to purchase the Motorola Edge X30 in China, while the OnePlus 9RT 5G starts from €440/$517. The Motorola Edge X30 wins the comparison thanks to its better chipset and cameras: we believe it currently offers a higher value for money.

Redmi Note 11 4G Global Variant may feature Snapdragon 680, new design: Tipster

After the Chinese launch a couple of weeks ago, Redmi plans to launch its Redmi Note 11 4G variant globally. But the phone might not be the same as the Chinese variant, as revealed by a tipster.

Redmi Note 11 4G
Redmi Note 11 4G

According to a report by ThePixel, an unnamed source has revealed that the Redmi Note 11 4G global variant will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chipset, rather than the MediaTek Helio G88 SoC that’s in the Chinese version. The reason for this move is speculated to be a shortage of stock of MediaTek chips in Xiaomi’s production facilities.

But this is not the only difference from the Chinese version. As we have reported earlier, the Redmi Note 11 series will not follow the ‘flat edges’ design for the global launch of their smartphones. Well, this applies to the Note 11 4G too. The smartphone is expected to follow a more traditional Redmi Note design for the body and edges.

Additionally, the tipster has also hinted at the price of the global variant, which can be expected to be around $199, making this phone highly affordable.

Redmi Note 11 4G
Redmi Note 11 4G

That said, other features of the Redmi Note 11 4G are expected to be the same as the Chinese version that carries a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display that offers a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate and a 1,500:1 aspect ratio. The Chinese version is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, coupled with 4/6 GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB storage.

In the camera department, the phone has a triple-camera setup on the back that consists of a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree FOV, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The device runs the MIUI 12.5 operating system which is based on Android 11. For connectivity, it supports dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, IR blaster, dual stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging and 9W reverse charging.

Leaked Huawei Watch D package confirms Blood Pressure Monitoring and HarmonyOS

The Chinese tech giant, Huawei, has been rumored to be working on a new smartwatch, the Huawei Watch D. Now, it looks like the device might see a launch as images of the Watch D packaging box have surfaced online.

Huawei Watch D packaging

According to ItHome, the Weibo user @菊厂影业Fans recently posted pictures of the Huawei Watch D packaging box on the Chinese microblogging website.

The pictures reveal that the Watch D design matches with the previous leaks, featuring a rectangular screen with two buttons on the side.

The main attraction of the smartwatch is its blood pressure monitoring capabilities, a feature that is only available on a few smartwatch devices around the world. This feature on the smartwatch is expected to provide reasonably accurate blood pressure measurements as it has obtained a Class II medical device registration certificate from the National Medical Products Administration of China. The device also features convenient blood pressure reminders to help you monitor your blood pressure throughout the day.

Other than that, the packaging reveals that the smartwatch will run on Huawei’s Harmony OS, making for easy integration with Huawei’s ecosystem.

Notably, the smartwatch will likely support the Huawei Health app, which would provide users with various fitness and health features like tracking their steps, total time they are physically active, total calories burned, sleep cycle tracking, weight tracking and much more.

Recent rumors have also stated that the Chinese tech giant is planning on launching a new wearable later this month during the December 23 event, which could very well be the Huawei Watch D.

[Exclusive] Xiaomi 12 Pro case renders reveal back panel design featuring a massive primary camera

The upcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro has been subject to many leaks regarding its specifications, but its design has been shrouded in mystery. Yesterday, we got our first glimpse of the device’s possible back panel design, and now, we have more leaks to solidify the case.

Earlier today, we received exclusive renders from our industry sources that showcase the camera setup on the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro.

These renders align with the previous leaks and reveal that the device will indeed carry a triple camera paired with an LED flash and, interestingly, an additional sensor that could be a LiSAR or a mic. The renders also reveal that the phone will maintain a sleek design profile and carry the volume rocker and power button on its right spine. The bottom of the phone appears to hold a speaker grill alongside a USB-C connector and a mic, while another speaker grill is present on the top of the device.

Xiaomi 12

The camera module is present vertically in the top left corner of the phone and carries a rectangular shape with rounded edges. The camera module is also observed to have a significant protrusion, indicating a massive sensor. The primary lens of the smartphone is huge and dwarfs the other two lenses, which are present below it in a vertical alignment.

In the specs department, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is expected to come with 120Hz OLED panels and is confirmed to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Earlier reports have also suggested that the Xiaomi 12 Pro might carry a 4500mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. The pricing of the Xiaomi 12 series could start from 4,299 yuan, which roughly converts to $680.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra gets new render based on latest case leaks

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be the successor to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra released in April this year and will be bringing along a number of upgrades across the board. While alleged renders of the vanilla Xiaomi 12 model have been doing rounds for a while now, the design of its Ultra variant has remained in the dark. But that’s now changed with the release of a new unofficial render by Ben Geskin.

The blogger has based it on protective case leaks from yesterday that had revealed alleged designs of the entire Xiaomi 12 series. From that, it seems that the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro will be featuring very similar designs while the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be going for a never-before-seen look.

Nearly half of the rear of the device will be taken up the camera module alone. This, despite it seemingly ditching the secondary screen at the rear – something that was a highlight feature of the Mi 11 Ultra. The case leak had also shown a total of eight cutouts for the camera module and Ben has reflected that on his design.

Four of those are dedicated to the cameras on the render, making the Xiaomi 12 Ultra have a quad-camera setup. But it isn’t clear yet if the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will indeed be having four cameras or if it will stick to the more traditional tri-cam setup found on its predecessor. Three of the remaining cutouts have been allotted to random sensors while the last one is a flash.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra render also divides the phone’s rear into two sections, one of which is darker than the other. If Xiaomi indeed goes for such an implementation, then it could be possible that one of the sections will perhaps have a different feel as well.

Apart from this, not much is known about the device. Some reports do suggest though that the phone will feature 120W fast charging and have a 120Hz OLED display. Under the hood, the phone is expected to come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and the pricing of the Xiaomi 12 series could start from 4,299 yuan.

This charging case may belong to Galaxy Buds Pro2 or Galaxy Buds Live2

In late November, Samsung revealed its business plan for 2022 with around 30 major partners. According to that, the company will be releasing the Galaxy Buds Pro2 and Galaxy Buds Live2 next year. Just a few days from that report, alleged additional information regarding these truly wireless earphones has emerged.

According to GalaxyClub, a new Samsung battery with model number EB-BR510ABY has been certified by Saftey Korea. It has a capacity of 500mAh.

Going by the image and the model number, the battery could most likely belong to a charging case of Galaxy Buds. That’s because it looks identical to the battery present inside the charging case of Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Buds Pro, and Galaxy Buds2.

Since the battery has model number EB-BR510ABY, the product using it will likely arrive with model number SM-R510. Unfortunately, the exact device is not known at the moment.

If this TWS product goes official in the first half of 2021, then it could be the Galaxy Buds Pro2. Else, it should be the Galaxy Buds Live2. We expect to learn more about these two wireless earbuds in the coming days.

All three current-gen Galaxy Buds models, namely Galaxy Buds Live, Galaxy Buds Pro, and Galaxy Buds2 use the same charging case with a 472mAh battery.  As the recently certified charging case has a 500mAh battery, the successor of the above-mentioned wireless earphones will probably have better overall battery life.

Xiaomi makes breakthrough in battery tech allowing 10% increased capacity and +100 mins of battery life

Xiaomi yesterday announced a new breakthrough in battery tech which shrinks its size by 10% percent, allowing for denser batteries under the same volume and effectively increasing battery life by a decent 100 minutes.

The new-gen battery technology utilizes “battery-level high-silicon lithium supplement technology” for the first time, using which the silicon content is increased by 3 times. A lot of the reduction in space the new battery needs also has to do with how the PCM (protection circuit module or board) is aligned. Xiaomi says that the PCM no longer lies flat. Rather, it is at an angle of 90° to the battery cell which saves quite some space.

In addition to that, the battery is also equipped with a special ‘fuel gauge’ chip. It makes use of self-developed algorithms and analyses underlying data to offer enhanced safety. Night-time charging behavior is monitored as well to avoid a long-term full charge state and slow down battery aging. Not only that, the battery can even detect high-temperature seasons and adjust its temps accordingly.

Mass production of the battery will commence in the second half of next year, which could mean that we’ll be getting Xiaomi phones featuring the battery tech in around late 2022.

Earlier, an industry insider had revealed that Xiaomi is currently testing an upgraded 100W flash charging tech for large battery capacities that will not only boost charging times significantly but will also seriously consider battery longevity.
