Google’s Pixel Pass could bundle Pixel 6, Google Fi, YouTube Premium, and more

After unveiling its next-generation Pixel 6 series flagship smartphones a few weeks back, Google has officially confirmed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be officially launched on 19th October, powered by the company’s new Tensor chipset.

Now, according to the latest report, the search engine giant is also gearing up to launch a new subscription service named “Pixel Pass” which will be bundling several Google services under one bill.

Google Pixel Pass Subscription Service Bundle Leak

Brandon Lee of This Is Tech Today reveals in a tweet that the upcoming Pixel Pass is a “monthly subscription that addresses users’ mobile needs end-to-end.” It is a bundle of several Google services, which includes the following:

  • Pixel device financing
  • YouTube Premium/YouTube Music
  • Google One storage
  • Play Pass
  • Google Fi mobile network service
  • Preferred Care/Device Protection

This means that with the new “Pixel Pass” bundle, the customer can purchase a Pixel smartphone from the Google Fi or Google Store with a financing option. It would also include the option of Google’s Preferred Care or Device Protection plans for an extended warranty. If the previous subscription offering for Google’s devices is to go by, then some of these services could be an optional part of the bundle.

It remains to be seen if the services offered as a part of the Pixel Pass bundle by Google will just unite them under a single bill or offer some sort of discount. However, it’s highly likely that there will be some kind of discount for bundling the services together. It is also yet to be confirmed if the subscription will be limited to the new Pixel 6 lineup or will be available with other Pixel devices as well.

Amazfit GTR 3/GTR 3 Pro and Amazfit GTS 3 arrive with Zepp OS, app support, and a refreshed look

Zepp Health has taken the wraps off its new smartwatches under its Amazfit GT series. The new Amazfit GTR 3 and Amazfit GTS 3 smartwatches come with a refreshed design and new features including a new operating system called Zepp OS that brings support for apps among others. There is also a third model dubbed the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro which packs more features.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro + Amazzfit GTR 3 + Amazfit GTS 3Amazfit GTR 3, Amazfit GTR 3 Pro, and Amazfit GTS 3 Design

The new smartwatches feature aluminum alloy cases with skin-friendly antibacterial silicone straps on the Amazfit GTR 3 and Amazfit GTS 3 and leather straps on the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro. All three of them have a classic navigation crown. The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro has a speaker, allowing users to make and receive calls on the watch.

Amazfit GTR 3, Amazfit GTR 3 Pro, and Amazfit GTS 3 Specs

The Amazfit GTR 3 has the same 1.39-inch display as its predecessor. It is still an AMOLED screen and there is support for Always-on Display. The pro model has a bigger display at 1.45 inches and a 70.6% screen-to-body ratio which Zepp Health claims is the highest on a smartwatch with a round dial. The Amazfit GTS 3 packs a bigger AMOLED display too that measures 1.75-inches, has a resolution of 390 x 450, and has a 341 PPI pixel density. Its screen-to-body ratio is 72.4%.

There are more than 100 watch faces to choose from including 15 animated ones and 12 editable watch faces (8 for the GTR 3). Users can also upload their own photos to use as a watch face

All three smartwatches come with the new BioTracker PPG 3.0 biometric sensor with increased accuracy thanks to its 6 photodiodes and 2 LEDs. The new sensor adds the ability to measure multiple health metrics at the same time. With One-tap Measuring, users can measure their heart rate, blood oxygen level, stress level, and breathing rate and get all four results in 45 seconds.

The Amazfit GTR 3 duo and Amazfit GTS 3 will track your breathing rate and blood oxygen level when you are sleeping. A new addition is the ability to check sleep data on the watch instead of within the app.

The Amazfit GTR 3 has a 21-day battery life while the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro and Amazfit GTS 3 have a 12-day battery life. The smartwatches are compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Zepp OS

Zepp OS is the new operating system that is powering the new smartwatches and it replaces the old Amazfit OS. Among the new features it brings are new and faster animations at up to 60fps and app support.

There are 10+ mini apps bundled with the smartwatches such as a water-intake app, calendar, calculator, and a third-party HomeConnect app that allows users to control smart home appliances from their wrists. Zepp Health says there will also be an app that will allow users to control their GoPro cameras using the watch. The manufacturer says there will be a web-based app developer kit for developers to design their own watch faces and apps for the new smartwatches.

Sports features

The Amazfit GTR 3 duo and Amazfit GTS 3 have support for more than 150 sports modes, a significant upgrade from the 90 sports models supported by their predecessors. The manufacturer has also added an eSports mode that will track your heart rate and other biometrics when playing video games.

The new smartwatches also have support for automatic recognition of 8 sports via a feature called ExerSSense. There is still GPS support and Zepp Health says that there is a new GPS chip that is not only 20% faster but 40% more accurate. The chip has support for 5 satellite navigation systems including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou, and QZSS.

Price and Availability

The Amazfit GTS 3 and Amazfit GTR 3 are both priced at $179.99 while the Amazfit GT3 3 Pro is priced at $229.99. There is no mention of when the watches will be available for purchase but Zepp Health said the availability of the smartwatches will be split into two batches. You can check the image above for which batch your country falls under.

The GTS 3 will be available in Thunder Black and Moonlight Grey while the GTR 3 Pro will be available in Black and Brown. The Amazfit GTS 3 will be available in Graphite Black, Ivory White, and Terra Rosa.

Canadian government to restrict 5G service around airports, Find out why

The Canadian government had announced that people living around its airports will not have the full complement of 5G connectivity on airport safety considerations. The announcement came just a few weeks after Canada’s telecoms spent $9 billion in acquiring the 5G spectrum license in July 2021. The new announcement could slice a chunk in expected revenue for the telcos and they are voicing their concerns.5G Logo

The move around airports will deprive thousands of 5G users of the full use of their smartphones in the restricted areas because there are fears that the 5G network frequencies could interfere with important navigational devices that could affect safety in the airports. One of the successful telcos, Telus Canada said that the decision could deprive it of up to $100 million in lost revenue. The company says it is indeed surprised that the proposed technical changes would impair a significant amount of the spectrum it won at auction. The comment was filed on September 2 with the country’s Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED). Telus has also noted separately that the mobile industry was taken aback by the move by the Canadian government, and the implications of the policy.

The 5G spectrum licenses were auctioned by ISED and it has stated that it will hold a brief consultation and then put new restrictions in place that will apply to airports where automated landing is permitted. The restrictions will be applied on an individual airport basis. In Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, no 5G stations will be permitted in a broad stretch of space covering parts of Etobicoke, Brampton, Downsview, and Mississippi. Residents in the affected stretches will not be able to enjoy the needed 5G services. The quantum of potential 5G users that will be affected by these new restrictions is still speculative, but this could be huge.

The restrictions are mainly driven by studies that have indicated the potential risks of interference as a result of the 5G connectivity, especially in airports. Some countries have also implemented mitigation measures.

It remains to be seen how the telecom providers will navigate through the thorny restriction regimen and whether there are some remediation measures for the companies. Telus is insisting that there are other options open to the regulator so as not to hurt the interests of the telcos, while still ensuring safety. We expect more fluid movements as the new policy becomes operational around Canada’s airports.

Alibaba and Baidu bet big on Chinese chipmaker Phytium

The global chip shortage coincided with the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and had seen several layers of dislocations in the supply chain globally. It however seems that chipmakers are gradually coming over the shortage with a raft of measures across the production chain. This has seen the expansion of existing capacities and outright building of new chip production processes.

Xiaomi Surge C1

Chinese company Phytium is changing its industrial and commercial registration by adding some heavy hitters like Alibaba, Baidu’s Dazi Bairuixiang Venture Capital Management Company, and China Internet Investment Fund as part of its investors. The company’s registered capital has also increased from 667 million yuan ($104 million) to 749 million yuan ($116.8 million). The new investment alignment will help Phytium to focus on its core area of producing homegrown core chips as the global market continues to boom. According to recent reports, the global artificial intelligence chip market could reach a massive $72.6 billion from its current estimate of $11 billion.

Alibaba and Baidu already have some interests in chipmaking, as both companies have subsidiaries that are focused on chip development. The two companies are just part of a large number of internet giants that are pursuing chip development as part of their business model. Baidu has the Kunlun Chip arm, while Alibaba has the T-Head Semiconductor Co., Ltd with the task of pursuing research and development, as well as the strategic layout of chips.

The new partnership in Phytium is expected to drive the expansion and development of chipmaking capacity in the company to meet local demand and even serve the overseas market.

Huawei applies for V-Pencil trademark, possible stylus for Mate V foldable

Huawei has been making devices with stylus support for a few years now. Its styluses are sold under the M-Pencil name and support cross-compatibility and multi-device connection, allowing owners to use the same stylus for both a compatible phone and tablet simultaneously. A few months ago, it launched the M-Pencil 2 alongside new MatePad tablets but there is a chance we will be getting another stylus this year, one that is expected to launch as the V-Pencil.

The folks at LetsGoDigital have discovered that the Chinese manufacturer has applied for a trademark for Huawei V-Pencil. The application was filed on October 4, and if the name didn’t already give it away that this is a stylus, the description states that it is an “electronic pen, computer stylus, touchscreen stylus”.

Huawei V-Pencil

We want to believe that the Huawei V-Pencil stylus will launch alongside the Huawei Mate V foldable phone reported to be scheduled for launch later this year. Thus, it is not far-fetched to say that this is a special stylus designed for the foldable just as Samsung did with its Galaxy Z Fold3 which launched with a special stylus dubbed the S Pen Fold Edition.

There are speculations that if the V-Pencil is indeed for the Huawei Mate V, then the foldable phone may not have a clamshell design like the Galaxy Z Flip3 but a design similar to the Mate X2 that launched earlier this year.

The specifications of the Mate V foldable phone are still unknown but it is expected to come with a Kirin 9000 4G processor and according to the leaker that goes by @RODENT950 on Twitter, it will use the same liquid metal hinge mechanism available on the Mate X2.

Google TV will get support for multiple user profiles starting next month

When you open up Netflix, you get get a splash page that shows the different profiles available. It is a pretty neat feature, one that Android TV (and Google TV) users have wanted for ages. Google has now revealed that personalized profiles a.k.a. multi-user support will be coming to Google TV starting next month.

Google TV profiles

Last year, Google stated that support for multiple user profiles was one of the top features on its mind but it didn’t say when the feature will be available. However, it revealed back then that it was working on a Kids Profile which began rolling out to users in March of this year.

According to The Verge, they have been informed by a Google spokesperson that multiple user support with individual profiles will be available next month starting with the Chromecast with Google TV and TCL and Sony TVs powered by Google TV. With individual profiles, recommendations, watchlists, and even Google Assistant help will be personalized. Google has also revealed that downloaded apps and credentials can be used across profiles. There is no mention of profiles coming to Android TV.

Apart from personalized profiles, Google will also roll out a separate feature called “glanceable cards”. These are small information cards that are displayed when the TV is idle. Users will see personalized information such as news, weather, and sports in addition to shortcuts to photos and podcasts.

Google TV Glanceable Cards

The source also mentioned that the new mobile remote app for Google TV which was announced last month for Android will be added to the Google Home app for Android and iOS soon.

Nothing wrist (1) smartwatch gets imagined with a transparent design revealing its innards

An artist has imagined a new Nothing wrist (1) smartwatch with transparent sides that exposes its innards as the company’s next offering, and it looks ‘nothing’ short of stunning.

If you happen to be living under a rock, Nothing was launched by Carl Pei, the OnePlus co-founder after parting ways with the company last year. The startup recently introduced its ear (1) wireless earbuds that not only offer a lot more for their price than you’d expect, but also sport a stunning design, the likes of which haven’t been tried by any company yet.

Nothing-Wrist-1-smartwatch_wearable_gadgets-5
Image: Gian Luigi Singh, Yanko Design

Transparency seems to be the main philosophy behind those earphones with their transparent case and transparent buds. In a world of cutthroat competition, a new brand would have to offer something unique if it wants to pull people’s attention, and Carl Pei managed to do just that with the Nothing ear (1).

But of course, a brand must also strive to maintain consistency across its product lineup in order to keep its portfolio easily recognizable. Designer Gian Luigi Singh knows of this and has based his renders on the fact that Nothing’s next product, whatever it may be, will be following a design language that will not be unlike its earbuds (via: Yanko Design).

Nothing-Wrist-1-smartwatch_wearable_gadgets-7

The renders thus reveal a smartwatch with crystal clear sides that display the raw beauty of the precise engineering that makes a wearable tick. This will be reminiscent of some of the high-end analog watches with transparent underbellies that demonstrate the mesmerizing, precise yet complex clockwork it takes for the simple functionality of displaying the time.

But of course, a stunning design isn’t all that takes for a product to be successful, which is why the Nothing wrist (1) smartwatch will come with all of the newfangled health and fitness tech including a heart rate monitor and step counter, to keep up with the competition.

Nothing-Wrist-1-smartwatch_wearable_gadgets-1

Moreover, like any other premium wearable piece of gizmo, the Nothing smartwatch will be protected against the elements by a water-resistant rating. Gian has slapped an IPx4 label at the watch’s bottom so there’s that.

The watch will be powered by Google’s Wear OS which should provide its owner all that they need to operate it and keep it connected with their smartphone. Speaking of connectivity, the wrist (1) will offer seamless connection and interoperability with Nothing’s present portfolio – that includes solely the Nothing ear (1). Thus, the watch will be able to pair with the earphones effortlessly and will allow one to keep tabs on the latter’s battery and adjust its volume levels.

Nothing-Wrist-1-smartwatch_wearable_gadgets_00
A custom Wear OS interface to match the Nothing design language

In conclusion, the concept isn’t something far-fetched and we wouldn’t be surprised if Carl Pei himself comes across it and gains the inspiration required to launch something similar. If that actually happens, one can safely say that the renders will be to Carl Pei exactly what an apple was to Isaac Newton.

HP confirms AMD Ryzen 7000 chips, might launch in early 2022

HP might have just revealed certain key details regarding the AMD Ryzen 7000 series of processors. A recent listing from the company has hinted that the upcoming next gen series of processors from Team Red could be launching sometime in early 2022.

AMD

According to HotHardware, the American PC maker’s listing revealed a pair of AIO (All in One) desktop systems that feature the Ryzen 7000 series of processors. These AIO PCs arrive in either 24 inch or 27 inch models in Starry White and Starry Forest. Apart from AMD, these systems will reportedly also feature Intel’s 12th Gen Core i7 processors as well, which is the latest Alder Lake lineup.

While this basically confirms the existence of the Ryzen 7000 series, the listing could still be a typo or some form of mistake. Although, listings revealing yet to be announced technology is not an uncommon occurrence. Although finer details regarding the Ryzen 7000 series chips is currently unknown, we can assume that the upcoming generation of processors is likely based on the Zen 4 architecture.

AMD

But this can’t be confirmed as of right now. The new Ryzen chips could very well also be the latest generation of APUs from AMD. In other words, it might be the Rembrandt APUs that are set to launch with Zen 3+ refresh, which is basically an enhancement over the Zen 3 architecture. This architecture also marks the shift to 6 nanometer manufacturing process from the 7nm on Zen 3 and stacked 3D V-cache. AMD has confirmed that it plans on launching chips with stacked 3D V-cache, so this might the chips that are listed on HP’s website.

HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro add support for ‘HarmonyOS Super Device’

HarmonyOS 2 introduced a new feature called Super Device. This lets users connect with smart devices in an intuitive manner. The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro finally adds support for it.

Huawei is known for its Multi Screen Collaboration feature that allows users to sync their smartphones with computers for a better multitasking experience. The company combined this feature with ‘Super Device’ with the release of Harmony OS 2.

Super Device is now the gateway to connect with Huawei ecosystem products on Harmony OS.  Users need to simply drag and drop the devices that they want to make a connection to.

With the new firmware update, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro are finally compatible with Super Device. Thanks to this, users have to now merely drag the icon of the truly wireless earphones to the device they want to connect the earbuds with. The new feature does not hinder the dual-connection option. Hence, that will also work as intended.

In order to experience Super Device with HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro, the TWS should be on firmware version 536 or higher and the smartphone should be running HarmonyOS 2.0.0.135 or higher. Lastly, it also requires HUAWEI ID and a WiFi connection.

If you meet the requirements and got to try out the new feature, then do let us know your experience in the comment section below.
