Valve’s Steam Deck is a handheld gaming PC priced at $399

The gaming handheld space just got a new member in form of Valve’s Steam Deck, a handheld console with specs that blow all the Nintendo Switch models out of the water.

Steam Deck front

With a starting price of $399, users get a device with a 7-inch 1280 x 720p touchscreen. The display is flanked on each side by two thumbsticks and two touchpads. There is also a D-pad next to the left joystick while ABXY action buttons are on the right. The device has two front-facing speakers, a Steam button, and a Quick Access button. Alongside two shoulder buttons on each side, you also get two back buttons on the back.

The Steam Deck has its volume buttons on top just like the Nintendo Switch Lite. There is also an audio jack a few millimeters from the buttons and not too far on the same side is the vent for the fan, a USB-C port, a status LED, and the power button.

Steam Deck buttons and ports

The console is powered by an AMD APU with a quad-core Zen 2 CPU with 8 threads and an 8 RDNA 2 CUs GPU. It has 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and comes in three storage versions – 64GB eMMC (PCIe Gen 2 x1), 256GB NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen 3 x4), and 512GB NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen 3 x4). All variants have a MicroSD expansion slot.

The Steam Deck has support for Bluetooth 5.0, and unlike the Nintendo Switch, you can pair controllers, input devices, and audio accessories. It also has dual-band Wi-Fi and the USB-C port supports display output at 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz. There is an official dock that allows it to be connected to an external display. The dock has 2x USB-A 2.0 ports, 1x USB-A 3.1 port, a DisplayPort 1.4, an HDMI 2.0 port, a USB-C Power Delivery passthrough input port, and an ethernet port. There is also a 6” USB-C captive cable with a 90º connector that connects to the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck UI

Valve says there is a 40Whr battery inside the device and it will provide between 2 to 8 hours of gameplay depending on the games you play. It comes bundled with a  45W Power Delivery 3.0 charger.

The Steam Deck runs SteamOS 3.0 but because it is a PC, you can install third-party software and operating systems. Once you are logged in, your Steam Library appears. The Quick Access button brings up a dedicated space for your notifications, friends, important settings, and peripherals. Apart from being able to access the games from your library on your device, you will also be able to stream from your PC to the Steam Deck via Valve’s Remote Play feature.

Steam Deck rear

Reservation for the Steam Deck is already available for customers in Canada, European Union, U.S., and the U.K. and it will begin shipping in December. Valve says that once inventory is available, buyers will be notified in the order that they made their reservation. You will not be able to reserve more than one unit and you can’t change the model once you are able to purchase. There is a $5 reservation fee but it counts towards the final price you pay.

The Steam Deck is priced at $399 for the 64GB version, $529 for the 256GB version, and $649 for the 512GB version.

Design

The Reno Glow finish which distinguishes the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G from the other phones is simply amazing. The handset has an opaque rear side but it still shines thanks to a special finish which required a very long process for its production. On the other hand, the Vivo X60 Pro is more compact despite it has the same display size. Both the phones are built with premium materials including a glass back and both feature an elegantly curved screen at the sides, but the Vivo X60 Pro seems to have a more premium body with its aluminum frame and the Gorilla Glass 6 protection by Corning. Both are awesome phones in terms of aesthetics and both are very thin and lightweight, so whatever you choose, you will make a great choice.

Display

The OPPO Reno 6 Pro 5G and the Vivo X60 Pro are very close when it comes to the display. They both feature AMOLED panels with the HDR10+ certification, an in-display fingerprint reader, a Full HD+ resolution, a high brightness, and a high-end image quality. Even the size is almost the same: 6.55 inches and 6.56 inches, respectively. An important difference is the refresh rate: OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G has 90 Hz, while Vivo X60 Pro comes with a higher 120 Hz refresh rate.

Specs & Software

The Vivo X60 Pro wins the hardware comparison because it is powered by a stronger chipset: the Snapdragon 870 by Qualcomm. Despite the Dimensity 1200 by MediaTek is built with a better production process (6 nm), the Snapdragon 870 is actually more powerful and it is the chipset with the highest clock frequency in the Android world. The SoC is paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage and this is the only memory configuration of the Vivo X60 Pro. Note that, in China, the Vivo X60 Pro comes with a different processor: the Exynos 1080 by Samsung.

Camera

Besides having a superior chipset, the Vivo X60 Pro also comes with a better camera. The phone packs a triple camera including a 48 MP main sensor with gimbal stabilization, a 13 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, a 13 MP ultrawide sensor, and Carl Zeiss optics. Unfortunately, OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G lacks a telephoto sensor and it has inferior stabilization. The two handsets are both equipped with a 32 MP selfie camera, so you should not notice big differences when it comes to selfies quality.

Battery

An important advantage of the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is the presence of a bigger battery: 4500 mAh vs 4200 mAh. Alongside the 6 nm production process of its chipset, the bigger capacity allows the handset to provide a longer battery life. Further, the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G has a faster charging technology with a power of 65W and it ships together with a compact 65W charger.

Price

The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is priced at Rs. 39,990 in India in the base configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, while Vivo X60 Pro costs Rs. 49,990 (€799 in the European market) in the configuration with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The Vivo X60 Pro is a superior phone because it packs better cameras and the amazing Snapdragon 870 chipset, but with the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G, you can save money while getting a bigger battery and faster charging. If you do not need that awesome camera you can find on the Vivo X60 Pro, then OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is a more intelligent choice for your needs and you should opt for it.

Xiaomi is the biggest beneficiary of Huawei’s exit from the mid-range phone segment in Europe

Huawei endured a turbulent 2020 in Europe and the United States especially. The stringent sanction regime initiated by the US-led to similar restrictions across Europe, especially in the 5G segment, where the company had already established a seemingly unassailable lead. These moves significantly affected the company’s outlook, but recent research by Counterpoint Research has also shown that consumers in Europe may have also been hurt by the exit of the company, as mid-range 5G smartphones average prices from Europe reflected.

The European market did not have any mid-range 5G smartphones as of Q1 2020. Still, the scenario gradually changed so that, by the third quarter of 2020, 5G mid-rangers accounted for about 20% of the segment, and this has risen steeply to 50% of all smartphones sold in Europe at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

The price range considered by the researchers at Counterpoint Research was the $250-$500 range. Huawei enjoyed a great degree of prominence in the mid-range segment of Europe before the decline last year, with its market share virtually extinguished by Q1 2021. Of all the listed vendors, Xiaomi saw the biggest YoY growth in the mid-tier segment, obviously due to its robust offering and aggressive marketing.

Huawei’s loss also translated to growth for other Chinese brands like Oppo, who moved swiftly to bridge the gap resulting from Huawei’s exit. These brands have recorded massive improvements in their European operations. Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and other brands on the fringes of the 5G market in Europe are all pursuing robust strategies to break into the mid-range and premium segment of the 5G market in Europe with some flagship offerings.

However, Apple and Samsung remain the clear leaders across the 5G segments in Europe, although the Chinese contingent continues to pursue a share of the spoils in the highly lucrative market.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go is now available for $299

Last month, the Galaxy Chromebook Go appeared on Samsung’s website as a new affordable Chromebook from the manufacturer. However, save for a few specs and images, there were still a lot of unknown details about the 14-inch device. Now, the notebook is official and available for purchase.

Galaxy Chromebook Go

The Galaxy Chromebook Go has a 14” LED screen with a 1366 x 768 resolution. The display brightness is on the low side at 220 nits and it doesn’t have a touchscreen, so don’t expect to use a USI stylus on this. However, it does have a 180° hinge allowing you to lay it flat.

Powering the Chromebook is an Intel Celeron N4500 and it is paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. While 32GB is really small, there is a MicroSD card slot for additional storage.

For ports, the Galaxy Chromebook Go has two USB Type-C ports, a USB 3.0 port, and a headphone-out/microphone-in combo port. Samsung says the Chromebook has a military-grade design while being its lightest Chromebook yet at 3.2lbs (1.45kg). It can survive the occasional drops and the island-type keyboard is spillproof. There are two 1.5W speakers and you also get the much faster Wi-Fi 6.

While not as long as the 18 hours of battery life the Galaxy Book Go boasts, the Galaxy Chromebook Go still offers an impressive 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. It also charges faster at 45W and you get a charger in the box.

The Galaxy Chromebook Go is priced at $299 and is already available for purchase on Samsung’s website. If you have a device that can be traded in, you can pick it up for as low as $129.99. Samsung has revealed that an LTE version will be available soon.

TikTok emerges as the first non-Facebook app to hit 3 billion downloads

According to Sensor Tower data, TikTok has become the first non-Facebook application to reach 3 billion downloads on the global iOS and Android platforms. Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data shows that the app, including its Chinese iOS version called Douyin, was the world’s most downloaded and highest-paid non-gaming app in the first half of 2021, with 383 million first installs and consumer spending approximately $919.2 million U.S. dollars.

The data shows that the adoption rate of TikTok was on the increase in 2021. First downloads increased by 2% from the fourth quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021, reaching 177.5 million, and increased by 16% from the first quarter to the second quarter of 2021. Reached 205.4 million. This is the largest increase the app has experienced since its start-up record quarter in 2020 when it had more than 315 million installations.

However, TikTok’s new downloads decreased by 38% year-on-year from nearly 619 million in the first half of 2020, but this was partly due to the removal of the app from the Indian app store. Even so, consumer spending on TikTok increased by 73% from the US$530.2 million in the same period last year.

The app has been installed more than 3 billion times, making it the fifth non-gaming app to achieve this goal. The other four apps with 3 billion installs are WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram, all of which are owned by Facebook.

In the second quarter of 2021, TikTok’s consumer spending achieved the largest quarter-on-quarter growth since the second quarter of 2020, increasing from $384.7 million in the first quarter of 2021 to $534.6 million in the second quarter of 2021. 39%.

Globally, TikTok’s consumer spending has now exceeded $2.5 billion. Since 2014, only 16 non-gaming applications have accumulated more than US$1 billion in total revenue, and only Tinder, Netflix, YouTube, and Tencent Video have reached more than US$2.5 billion.

Honor Magic 3 series global launch set for August 12

Honor has a global event scheduled for August 12, and while it didn’t say what it will be unveiling, we are expecting the launch of the Honor Magic3 phone. Today, the manufacturer has confirmed that the Magic3 series will indeed launch on that day.

Honor Magic 3 featured

A tweet by the Honor Global Twitter account has revealed that the Honor Magic3 Series 5G will be announced at the global event on August 12. Seeing as it used the word “series”, we should expect more than one model will be unveiled at the online event.

Earlier leaks have revealed that there will be more than one Magic phone this year including a foldable too. Several Chinese leakers have revealed that there are three models in the Magic3 series. The reliable leaker that goes by @RODENT950 on Twitter also disclosed in a tweet earlier this week that there are three models in the Magic3 series with model numbers ELZ-AN00, ELZ-AN10, ELZ-AN20, so we should expect a standard version as well as pro and pro+ variants. We believe the foldable Honor Magic isn’t among the aforementioned devices.

Honor Magic3 series invite

All three phones will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 Plus according to an official statement by Qualcomm last month.

The teaser image shows the main camera of one of the Honor Magic3 models, and while it is a close-up image, it does appear it will take up significant space on the device which means it is a large sensor.

Amazon plans to launch a wearable for kids in partnership with Disney

Amazon makes a handful of hardware products for kids such as a kids version of its Fire Tablet, Echo Dot Kids Edition, and the Echo Show 5 Kids. Now it has plans to launch a wearable in partnership with Disney. It has also been revealed that Amazon was planning to launch an Alexa-powered wearable for kids last year but that didn’t happen.

Amazon Logo Dark

The new wearable will launch as the Magic Band and it is scheduled to arrive this year. Details of the wearable are unknown but there is a possibility that it is related to the Magic wristband that Disney gives guests at its parks and hotels.

The more interesting news is the wearable that was supposed to launch last year. Bloomberg revealed the wearable was codenamed “Seeker” and was targeted at kids between the ages of 4 and 12. The wearable could be worn on the wrist, or used as a keychain or clip.

The device would have support for Alexa, built-in GPS, provide access to kid-tailored content, and allow parents to communicate with and monitor their kids. With a price tag of $99, Amazon would also offer free 1-year access to FreeTime Unlimited a.k.a. Kids+.

Seeker was supposed to launch last year but it was never announced. Unfortunately, it is not known if it has been canceled or postponed. While there isn’t a shortage of smartwatches/trackers for kids from manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Huawei, and TCL, we don’t think Amazon has given up on making a wearable for kids.

OnePlus TV Y1, U1S series price in India hiked by up to ₹7,000

At the end of last month, a report revealed that Xiaomi would be incrementing the price of its smart TVs in India and the company did as well. It appears OnePlus had also hiked the price of its television models in the country a few days later. Let’s take a look at how much they cost now.

OnePlus TV U1S Series Featured A
OnePlus TV U1S Series

OnePlus has jacked up the price of its TVs by up to a whopping ₹7,000 in India. The 50-inch variant of the newly launched OnePlus TV U1S series has received the maximum price hike.

The brand has only incremented the price of two lineups, namely the OnePlus TV Y1 series and the OnePlus TV U1S series. This is how much they retail for in India right now.

As you can see from the table above, the entire OnePlus TV Y1 series gets a ₹2,500 price hike. Whereas, the increase in price is different for each size variant of the OnePlus TV U1S series.

That said, the continued smart TV price hike in India is due to the prolonged global shortage of ‘Open Cell’ (panel), which makes up almost 70% of the cost of a television. TV manufacturers in India import panels from China and Vietnam.

Netflix plans to add game streaming to its service as early as next year

Netflix is already one of the top video streaming services in the world and now it is planning to take on game streaming services such as GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Stadia as a report has revealed that Netflix plans to begin offering video games via its streaming service.

Netflix Logo Featured

The announcement was made by Netflix itself yesterday, and a Bloomberg report adds that it has hired a new executive who used to work for Electronic Arts and Facebook. The new hire is Mike Verdu and he will take up the role of vice president of game development. Verdu was a former VP at Facebook who was in charge of working with developers to brings games to Oculus VR headsets. While at Electronic Arts, he worked on popular mobile games such as Sims, Plants vs Zombies, and Star Wars

Netflix won’t be creating a separate service for game streaming, instead, games will show up as part of the content available on its streaming platform and it plans to start offering as early as next year with no extra cost. Though we won’t be surprised if it raises the prices of its plans later on.

By offering game streaming along with its current catalog of shows, movies, and documentaries, Netflix will get an added advantage over competitors such as Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and other video streaming platforms.

The announcement not only raised the shares of Netflix but also negatively affected that of GameStop which dropped by 10%. It has also been reported that Netlfix will be recruiting in the coming months for positions to build its gaming team.

Best Camera Smartphones of H1 2021: S21 Ultra, Mi 11 Ultra, X60 Pro+, Find X3 Pro & Oneplus 9 Pro

We are halfway into 2021, and most smartphone brands have already launched their flagship phones in the market. Taking advantage of the recent releases, we have put together a detailed camera review of the top flagships from five brands.

These are — Samsung’s S21 Ultra, Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra, VIVO’s X60 Pro+, OPPO’s Find X3 Pro and Oneplus’ 9 Pro. In this article, we will compare the advantages and disadvantages of each phone in the camera department. This article is a bit long, but be patient, and you’ll know which phone offers the best photography experience in the first half of 2021, and we’ll also point out each model’s shortcomings and strengths.

So here is Gizmochina’s review of the best camera flagship phone for the first half of 2021.

Best Smartphones Camera 2021 featured OPPO Xiaomi OnePlus Vivo Samsung
Best Smartphones Camera 2021 – OPPO, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo, Samsung

Before we start the comparison of the camera samples, let’s review the camera specifications of the five phones, so please look at the table for details. Each phone defaults to AI mode, with auto HDR, flash disabled, and other factory settings when shooting. In order to avoid the preconceived brand effect, the evaluation will obscure the phone model for the audience to speculate, and their identities will be announced at the end of the article.

Best Smartphone Camera 2021 - Specs Comparison

1.1 Main Camera (Bright)

When the lighting is good, all the five flagship phones perform very well. For the minute differences, we need to zoom in and look carefully.

Best cam phone 2021 Main cam 1 Let’s take a look at this photo of the gazebo first, the performance is basically the same without zooming in.

Best cam phone 2021 main cam 2 And when we zoom in, we can see that the resolution at the center of the picture is very similar among all the five models, but we can still see that B performs relatively better than others as the cracks on the pillar are visible. The other three models are at the same level.

Best cam phone 2021 Main cam 4On the other hand, when it came to the edges of the image, A and D performed the best while the other three models had similar but slightly inferior details.

The D is seen to have the most noise at first glance, and it is obvious that the noise reduction processing of D is more negative. E also has more noise. Notably, the noise reduction processing of the, A, B, and C are stronger.

Best Camera Phones H1 2021

So the final score for this session is shown in the table. B and C are tied for first place, while D lags behind the other models because of the weak noise reduction.

1.2 Main Camera (Dark)

Best cam phone 2021 mainMain cam 6

This photo of Coke embedded in a wall has a lot of details. But the situation is different in low light than when there is plenty of light. B has the worst central image quality performance, with no signs of sharpening, but it also the least detail.

We got the best details from D and E, where the texture of each brick is clearly visible. A has some sharpening, but the detail is still great. C has too much sharpening and looks worse.

And from this indoor sample of complex lighting, let’s check the image quality at the edges. D leads the pack, with clear lines of wire mesh. A and C have clearer lines, and C has the strongest sharpening of the five. E has false colors, and the B model has blurred images, performing significantly worse than the first three phones. The dynamic range of all five phones is similar, while A captured underexposed images in the dark and D overexposed the samples in the upper right corner of the light sign, so we deducted some points from both these models, but we couldn’t find any other fault. This picture tests the noise control and glare control of the phone.

After zooming in, you can see that B has the best noise reduction. C and E are the ones with the most noise. The glare is about the same for everyone.

The night mode improves low light scenes and should be used very often. Fortunately, the night mode is very well tuned on each of the five models. A is still not as detailed in the dark as the other four, and its sharpening in the night mode is the worst among the five phones. B‘s highlights are not controlled and the details are the least.

So the final score is as follows.

The best score in this segment is D, and the other four phones do not have much difference in performance in this segment.

2.1 Ultra-wide Camera (Bright)

Take this example of a large bell, shot in the backlight. C has the best performance in the resolution at the center of the image taken from the ultra-wide-angle lens. B is also good because there is almost no over-sharpening so it looks very natural and you can see a lot of details. This is followed by A and E, which look a little worse because of the obvious sharpening signs. The last is D, which has the least amount of grain detail.

Best cam phone 2021 ultra wide 3Still in this photo, a closer look at the internal details of the bell reveals the gap in the dynamic range. E and B are the two best performers, followed by D, in both of which we can see the details inside the bell. A and C, on the other hand, are almost pitch black.

The edge details of an ultra-wide sample has always been one of the most difficult tasks for brands to optimize. The difference is evident in this photo of the tree. A came out on top in this category, both in terms of resolution and control of the purple-fringing issue. B is a little less resolved, but the purple-fringing issue is well controlled. C and D are very good in terms of resolution, but they have a slight purple-fringing issue. The worst is E, which does worse in terms of resolution and purple-fringing issues. However, the noise control of E is good and comparable to that of B. The other three units have average noise control.

Best cam phone 2021 ultra wide 7

Finally, look at their picture distortion control. Because they both have anti-distortion processing, so the actual difference is very small. Except for B, which seems to have a little bit of distortion, it is hard to tell who is stronger and who is weaker with the naked eye.

The final score is shown in the table, and B got first place in this session with its stable performance.

2.2 Ultra-wide Camera (Dark)

Under dim indoor light, the ultra wide angle cameras with average sensors are tested to the extreme.  Look at the words on the car, the sample from B basically can’t be read anymore. In the samples from A and E, we can still read a few letters. While in the samples from D and C we can basically see all the letters. The D‘s ultra wide-angle lens, like its main camera, continues to have the most noise. Others have better noise control.

We can also use this picture to judge its edge picture quality. The newspaper posted on the wall is a measure of the edge image quality. The difference between the five phones is very obvious, with B again at the bottom of the list, and the small text disappearing. C‘s edge image quality drops very little compared to the center image quality, which is great. D is also very good. Whilte A‘s excessive sharpening makes the image look very messy, E shows slightly false colors.

Let’s change the scene and see how each brand performs in situations with high contrast between light and dark. It is easy to see from the Coca-Cola logo and ceiling that E has the best control of highlights and the sample from D has the most detail in the dark. The other phones also have excellent dynamic range performance and excellent glare control. A has a little more glare than the other phones, but it doesn’t affect much, so 0.5 points are deducted. From this scene with complex light sources, the five phones don’t look much different with night mode on. B is still the same as in the auto mode, with poor image quality at the center. A still has obvious signs of sharpening. D’s night mode is a little blurry. C and E performed relatively well.

The final results of this session are shown in the table, C got the highest score in five of the six tests and easily took the lead in this session.

Standard lenses (2x/3x/3.3x)

Since these five phones have different standard lens focal lengths, we chose their respective focal lengths for comparison, with B using a 2x zoom on the main camera.

Looking at the daytime samples with plenty of light, they are not much different except for the difference in focal length.

So we look directly at the indoor dark light samples. Without zooming in, you can see the dynamic range of each brand of phone just by looking at the picture. The best photo would be E, followed by D and C. A and B are at the bottom.

3 zoom 2x 3x 4x

Now Let’s zoom in to see the picture quality. D is undoubtedly the best, followed by E and A. Lastly, let’s check out B and C. B also has the least noise due to the powerful noise reduction. The noisiest ones are A and E.

In the night scene mode competition, because C is not supported by the medium focus night mode, I believe C’s manufacturer is very confident in its automatic mode, so the score is with normal mode of calculation. The resolution of D is the best. B has the most severe sharpening.

So the final scores are in, and D wins this session again.

Telephoto Cameras(5x/10x)

Because D has 10x optical zoom, we review the 5x and 10x together. The small samples may not be visible in the above image, but the difference in the original picture is still obvious. You can see that B has the most details, followed by E. D is slightly weaker than E, but the remaining two are too blurry, especially the C.

In the 10x sample, ignoring the sudden overexposure bug of A, the image quality of D surpassed the top two and got first place.

The rest of the phone ranking is basically the same as 5x zoom samples. The gap is even more pronounced in dark indoor environments. B is still unbeatable in terms of dynamic range and noise control, while E also performs well. With night mode on, the dynamic range of A has improved, but the noise has also increased.

The night mode of E seems to have regressed compared to the auto mode, the image has become blurred, and we’ll explain why this happened in the camera experience session later. Of course, C still doesn’t support night mode for telephoto. D outperformed B in the 10x photos, and the rest of the conclusions are almost identical to the 5x photos, so I won’t repeat them.

The final scores are shown below, with the 5x telephoto and 10x telephoto winners being taken by B and D with perfect scores in each category, respectively.

Extreme dark scenes

Inevitably, there are times when you need to use your phone to take pictures in almost no light. In such scenarios, we don’t need to consider other factors, and as long as the target object can be photographed, it is considered a success. So this session is a test of the extreme light-sensitive ability of the five phones. Usually, the main camera’s night mode is the most powerful mode for each phone, so we have used it for this test. In terms of exposure alone, E was the brightest. A was so dark that it was impossible to tell what was being photographed. B retained the most details in the picture, followed by D and E. The conclusion of the competition in this segment is very obvious, because the exposure of the picture is more important than the clarity of the shot, so the weight of the score of the picture quality will be smaller in this segment.

Extreme Dark SCene Score

Obviously, E wins this round.

Color Style & White Balance

other mode 3

Just as different brands of cameras have different color science, the five phone brands have different understanding of what colors makes the samples better. E and A usually have the highest saturation. C’s saturation is turned up while brightness is turned down to make colors more intense, especially reds and greens. D and B also increase saturation, although the strength is not great and there is little difference from what you can see with the naked eye. Color style preferences vary from person to person and are not evaluated here, but whether the white balance is accurate can be measured uniformly. So take a look at the white balance uniformity of each phone’s main camera.

With AI mode turned off, we take a photo of a white wall. It’s hard to see which phone is doing a bad job with white balance, except for the different exposure strategies, so let’s take a different photo.

The picture of this table has a large yellow area, which is very difficult for a phone with a poorly tuned auto-white balance.  It can be said that every phone does not do a good enough job of adjusting the white balance.

A is obviously yellowish, B, C and E are blue-green, and D is red. If you pick the best one, D and E are relatively well done.

White Balance Score

So the best score in this session goes to D & E, the remaining three phones still need to work on their color tuning.

Other modes

Portrait mode is also a frequently used mode. This mode tests the accuracy of its face exposure strategy, beauty algorithm and portrait keying. This bronze statue wearing a hat has very heavy shadows on its face, but B does a good job of balancing the background with the exposure of the face. E has a great exposure for the face and automatically adds some light spots to the background. D has a dark face.

The woman’s picture is mainly about her hair keying and face details. It is too difficult to key in the hair, and all of them do a bad job here. B does a relatively good job, with less breakage. And the beauty effect on E is the most powerful, but here B is the weakest. Of course, Beauty can be turned off, so it is not included in the rating system.

If you only look at face exposure and keying, B has the best performance in portrait mode.

This time we also tested the selfie effect of the front lens. With factory settings, A and C had the strongest beauty effect, and all other phones looked more realistic. After we turn off the beauty on all phones, C and D have the most details.

We all know that B is able to take selfies with the small screen on the back, and it beats other phones in terms of clarity and depth of field. But this round of testing is the front lens so it does not count in the score.

In the high-resolution mode competition, E is not able to activate HDR in this mode, so the dynamic range will be smaller than other phones that can turn on HDR. This can be easily seen from the exposure of the tree trunk. In a different scene, in a light and not backlit scene, the best resolution is D and B, and the worst is A. But in the same scene at night, basically, every phone is close in performance regardless of the pixel level. So It seems that the high-resolution mode should be used in the daytime.

Only A has a dedicated macro lens, which is not used very often but is very interesting. It can take a lot of perspectives that other phones can’t, and it can record video, so it’s very usable.

And C has a Monochrome lens, which allows you to take black and white photos. Here is a photo with a Monochrome lens and a direct shot with a saturation of -200, can you see the difference between them?

So for C, this lens really does almost nothing.

So A won first place in this segment with its macro lens overtaking D. C‘s Monochrome lens did not help in this segment.

Camera Experience

Now comes the final session, namely the camera experience session. During my photo sampling, A and D had the best experience with no obvious drawbacks.

Best Camera Phone Comparison 2021 H1 featured 01 (9)

C can only use night mode at 0.6x and 1x focal length, and it is not possible to zoom in night mode.

Night mode on E is likely to call on the main camera to crop the image instead of 2x or 5x optics in low light conditions, which is why night mode is weaker than normal mode ar 5x focal length test.

B’s experience is the worst, not only is the shutter delay the highest of all phones, but there are two bugs that seriously affect the experience. Video stabilization failure can only be solved by rebooting. The night mode of the video will occasionally have a red residue on the screen. And the redness of the screen is quite scary at night.

By this point in the article, I’m sure some viewers have already guessed the corresponding phone models. Now let’s reveal the answer along with the total score table.

Best Camera Smartphones 2021: VERDICT

Best Camera Phone galaxy s21 ultra 2021 H1 featured 01 (3)

In the first place is the very versatile Galaxy S21 Ultra. The phone not only took four firsts in individual categories but was never placed at the bottom in any of the tests.

Best Camera Phone vivo x50 pro plus 2021 H1 featured 01 (5)

In second place is the Vivo X60 pro+ which is placed above others for its robustness.

The Mi 11 Ultra in third place has the strongest 5x optical telephoto lens, but the lack of a standard lens and poor tuning of the ultra-wide-angle lens caused it to be no match for the x60 pro+.

Best Camera Phone Mi 11 Ultra H1 featured 01 (4)

In fourth place is the Oneplus 9 Pro which has very good ultra-wide-angle performance, but like the Find X3 pro, it misses too many points because of the lack of an ultra-telephoto lens.

Best Camera Phone OnePlus 9 Pro 2021 H1 featured 01 (6)

The Find X3 pro does the best job in terms of camera experience and fun, but the optimization for image quality needs to be enhanced.

If you want to choose a phone with the strongest camera right now, the S21 Ultra is the one you want. If your budget is not that high, the X60 pro+ is also a very good choice, and their gap is very small.

So this was Gizmochina’s review of the best camera phones for the first half of 2021. We hope this comparison was useful to you.

realme Band 2 gets certified by Bluetooth SIG

Smartphone brand realme entered the wearable category last year with the launch of the realme Band in early 2020. A year later, the company now sells multiple smartwatches, however, it still only offers a single fitness tracker. Thankfully, that’s going to change with the release of realme Band 2.

realme Band All Colors Featured A

Handset maker realme is soon expected to launch realme Band 2 with model number RMW2010. This wearable has been certified by Bluetooth SIG. The listing reveals the product to arrive with Bluetooth 5.1.

Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the second-generation fitness tracker from realme. Hence, we can only speculate its features based on the specs of the original model.

For those unaware, the realme Band sports a 0.96-inch LCD screen. Therefore, we can expect its successor realme Band 2 to arrive with a larger OLED display as found on Mi Bands, HONOR Bands, and HUAWEI Bands.

Further, it may come with more than 9 activity modes and feature a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen level monitoring. Other anticipated features include heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, app notifications, call/message alerts, music control, longer battery life, and more.

As far as price is concerned, if realme plans to continue selling the original realme Band, then realme Band 2 should cost around ₹2,000 in India. If not, we can expect it to debut at around ₹1,500.

What are your expectations for the upcoming realme Band 2? Do let us know in the comment section below.
