Official: Honor Magic 3 series flagship will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 Plus

Qualcomm has announced a new chipset – the Snapdragon 888 Plus. The chipset will appear in phones launching in the second half of the year, and among the confirmed devices it will power is the Honor Magic 3 series flagship.

Snapdragon 888 Plus featured

The info was confirmed in Qualcomm’s press release along with a statement from an Honor company executive. According to Fang Fei, the president of product line, Honor Device Co., Ltd “…The game-changing advancements we see in the new Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform make it a perfect fit for HONOR’s upcoming Magic3 series flagship.”

Prior to the launch of the Snapdragon 888 Plus, there were reports that Honor will launch the Magic 3 in August and it will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 Pro. The Snapdragon 888 Plus was originally referred to as the Snapdragon 888 Pro.

Honor plans to announce two Magic phones this year. It has been reported that one will be a foldable device and it is expected to launch as the Honor Magic Fold.

Qualcomm’s press statement also kills the rumor that the chipset will be exclusive to Honor as it confirms that other manufacturers will also announce phones powered by the chipset. ASUS’s general manager of smartphone business, Bryan Chang, has confirmed that the Snapdragon 888 Plus will appear in a ROG phone. Vivo and Xiaomi have also confirmed that they will announce phones powered by the new processor. We also expect other brands not stated above to have a Snapdragon 888 Plus phone in the pipeline.

At the moment, we do not know which phone will launch first but we will update you once we have more details.

Apple might soon offer iPads in larger display sizes: Report

A new report has revealed that Apple might be planning on further exploring with its iPads lineup of tablets. Currently, the 12.9 inch iPad Pro variant is the largest iPad available at the moment, but this could soon change as the company might be looking to release future iPads with larger screens.

Apple iPad Pro

According to a 9To5Mac report, Mark Gurman recently stated that new iPad screen size might be arriving in the near future. The known Apple analyst stated that the iPhone maker is still exploring with its iPads. The Cupertino based giant is rumored to be developing a redesigned iPad chasis with a rear glass cover for 2022, which is expected to ship in the existing 11 inch and 12.9 inch display sizes.

Furthermore, Gurman also speculated that the larger screens might even further make it harder to differentiate the company’s tablets and laptops. In other words, with the productivity based capabilities of the iPad rising, Apple might launch larger screen variants to further supplement the tablets multitasking and productive functionalities that could rival MacBooks. As of right now, the 16 inch MacBook model is the largest laptop offering from the company.

Apple

Interestingly, the inclusion of a glass back cover on upcoming iPad models would also imply the arrival of wireless charging for the first time. This could also have the iPad also support reverse wireless charging as well. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take this news with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates regarding this matter.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro to sport ultra wide camera with autofocus: Kuo

Ming-Chi Kuo a known analyst has just revealed a few interesting details regarding the upcoming Apple iPhone 13 series smartphone and future iPhones. He believes that the iPhone 13 Pro variant will sport an ultra wide angle lens that supports autofocus.

Apple

According to a 9To5Mac report, the analyst believes that this year’s iPhone 13 Pro’s ultra wide angle sensor will also arrive with autofocus. This is a change from the previous generation’s fixed focus, which doesn’t let users change focus to a particular object. In other words, the addition of an autofocus on the ultra wide angle lens would enable users to have more options when taking stills or videos.

Furthermore, the analyst also added that the ultra wide angle camera on the iPhone 13 Pro will also have six elements instead of just five. This would likely translate to the smartphone being capable of capturing better pictures or video recordings. Notably, Kuo claimed that while only the Pro model from this year will received the benefits of the autofocus on the ultra wide angle sensor, future iPhones starting from the next year will also receive this upgrade.

Apple iPhone 12

Meaning, the Cupertino based giant will bring the feature to all iPhone models in 2022. Keep in mind that this is still an unconfirmed report as of right now, so take this news  with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

Huawei to build new HiSilicon chip factory in Wuhan to offset US sanctions: Report

A new report has revealed that Huawei is increasing its efforts to become more self sufficient. While the US sanctions had cut off its chip supply from TSMC in the past, the company is now apparently seeking to set up its first chip production factory in China to offset the sanctions.

Huawei

According to a DigiTimes report (Via AsiaTimes), the Chinese tech giant is planning on building its first wafer fabrication manufacturing company in Wuhan, Hubei Province. This new ‘HiSilicon Factory’ is expected to begin the production in stages from next year.  Furthermore, the report claimed that the factory will be used to produce optical communication chips and modules to gain self sufficiency and to manufacture microcircuit designs as well.

For those unaware, HiSilicon is Huawei’s chip designing subsidiary and is a fabless chip maker. In other words, while it has the capability to design advanced chips it used to contract TSMC for chip production. As per sources close to the matter, Huawei is set to invest 1.9 billion Yuan (roughly 278 billion US Dollars) in the Wuhan HiSilicon chip factory project, which will have it develop its own chipsets for smartphones and other IoT (internet of things) devices as well.

Huawei

With the various US sanctions that have crippled its operations, Huawei and even China has been placing an emphasis on accelerating the development of domestic fabrication plants to localize the supply chain for its local tech firms. This would even have it reduce its reliance on foreign chipmakers as well. Although, keep in mind that this is just an unconfirmed report at the moment, so take it with a pinch of salt for now and stay tuned for more updates regarding this matter.

OPPO Reno6 5G global launch nears, unveiling date for Indonesia confirmed

Last month, OPPO announced the Reno 6 series of smartphones such as Reno6 5G, Reno6 Pro 5G, and Reno6 Pro+ 5G in China. There have been reports that it will be launching soon in July in India. It is likely that Indonesia could be the first global market to receive the Reno6 5G handset as its microsite has gone live on OPPO Indonesia’s website. The listing reveals that the Reno6 5G will be launching on July 15 in the country.

The landing page of the Reno6 5G on OPPO Indonesia’s website has only confirmed its design. It shows that the Reno6 will be sporting a flat AMOLED display and its rear has a quad-camera system. The bottom edge of the device features a speaker grille, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The left side of the global Reno6 5G features volume buttons and its right edge is flanked by a power key. It carries support for NFC connectivity. Its rear shell is slightly curved towards the edges, and it features a camera module at the top-left corner. The handset will be available in two colors such as black and blue.

The global Reno6 5G appears to be different from the China Reno6 5G in terms of design. The Chinese variant has a curved edge display, a flat rear panel, differently designed rear camera setup, and it lacks a 3.5mm audio jack. There is a possibility that there could be some difference in the specs of the global and Chinese Reno6 5G.
