Xiaomi launched a new Bluetooth speaker back in September dubbed Mi Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker. We bumped into a couple of pictures of the Bluetooth speaker recently which gave a clearer view of the design details. We thought you’d like to have a look at them.

The pictures come courtesy of Chinese blog Toutiao and they capture the device from all angles. The speaker looks similar to the Mi Pocket Bluetooth Speaker 2 and even adopts the same conical shape for which the portable speaker is known. It is also a portable product but with a taller form factor than the previous model. The buttons are also placed in a new direction. Apart from that, the speaker no longer uses a front blasting speaker design but blasts from the side. The body is covered with seamless fabric and soft plastic, making it not only lightweight but also rugged.

The power button is located at the bottom of the speaker removing any chance of interference. The previous model uses a rotating speaker head which also doubles as the power button when pressed. However, the speaker often turns on and off repeatedly if kept inside a bag while on the move. That won’t likely happen with this model. The volume rockers are located at the side.

At the bottom edge, there is a USB-C port which delivers fast charging. The charging port has a rubber cover to aid the waterproof feature. The speaker as IP55 waterproof and dustproof protection.

Crammed inside is a 2600mAh battery which is said to deliver up to 8 hours of continuous playback. There is also Bluetooth 5.0 on board as well as 52mm speaker drivers and two HD microphone pickup. It even has an attractive lanyard for carrying it around.

Performance

I have reviewed several pod mods and some of them didn’t deliver a good flavor. However, the VapeOnly vPipe Mini does. Considering that there are no settings, buttons or adjustments possible, this E-Pipe is able to blow some decent clouds and let you enjoy some complex flavors. Several types of e-liquids were tested. I started with a blueberry popcorn flavor with 70VG/30PG. Despite the density, the atomizer was able to drain it with no issues. Nonetheless, I would recommend to use 50VG/50PG and salt nicotine e-liquids. I also tried CBD e-liquid in this device, and the flavor and throat hit were very satisfying.

Latest update for the Realme XT brings Nightscape mode to the selfie camera

The new update comes with the version number RMX1921EX_11_A.12 and also ushers in the November 2019 security patch. Perhaps, the most spectacular feature the update brings is Nightscape Mode for the front camera. It also optimizes the clarity of the photos captured in Ultra 64MP Mode. The Realme XT got its first update in September bringing clarity to the camera. The device also got the October 2019 security patch in late October bringing onboard Dark mode among other optimisations.

Other features this new update brings optimization to the quality of ultrawide video recording. The previous update in October brought the ultrawide angle video recording to the Realme XT, but the feature was observed to come with a few bugs. Also, you can see the difference in temperature in real-time.

The MyFLIR app also allows you to thermally tune level and span, adjust parameters, and much more. To be specific, the shape of a cross, as shown in the video, displays the spot temperature, and it can be moved to detect the temperature of different points. The shape of a square can measure the average temperature of the enclosed area which can be reduced or enlarged in equal proportion.

And there are 9 different color palettes. Generally, the “Icon” color scheme is the most commonly used. But don’t worry about what color mode you are in. You can always go back and change the colors after you take a picture.

It seems that the Blackview BV9800 Pro is a cool device to have fun with but it’s much more than that. EMUI 10 stable update rolls out to Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro in Europe

The Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro are the latest devices to get the stable EMUI 10 update. The update is rolling out to users in Europe and it comes just a few days after it arrived on devices in China.

There are tons of new features that EMUI 10 brings which makes the update size of 4.47GB not a huge surprise. The change-log does list some compatibility issues with some banking apps but that isn’t Huawei’s fault but that of the app developers.

The update is rolling out in batches, so if you have not received the notification for the OTA update, you will have to wait.

Below are some of the features EMUI 10 brings:

Multi-Screen Collaboration

Supported devices will be able to pair with their Huawei computer with just a single tap. Your phone’s screen shows up on your computer screen and you can operate the device using your keyboard and mouse/trackpad. When connected, you can seamlessly transfer files between both devices. This feature also allows you to carry out tasks such as replying messages without picking up your phone.

New Color Scheme

EMUI 10 brings a new color scheme inspired by the Morandi gradient color scheme. You will notice the use of softer colors with gentle textures across apps such as messages and contacts.

Dark Mode

EMUI 10 brings Dark Mode which is easy on the eyes and provides a more comfortable and immersive reading experience.

Improved System Performance

EMUI 10 adopts what is called Deterministic Latency Engine. It is able to optimize the allocation of system resources at the chip level for faster performance. Huawei says response latency decreases by 25.7% while latency fluctuation decreases by 55.6% with EMUI 10.

Security

Huawei says its operating system’s microkernel has achieved CC EAL 5+, the highest level of security certification for consumer operating systems globally. All payments, authentication, and sensitive operations are carried out in this isolated part of the system.

The Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro were announced back in March as Huawei’s flagship for the first half of the year. Both phones have OLED displays with a waterdrop notch although with different sizes. There is a Kirin 980 processor under the hoods with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The P30 Pro has a 40MP primary rear camera, an 8MP periscope camera, a 20MP ultrawide camera, and a ToF camera. The standard model also has a 40MP primary camera but with a different aperture. It ditches the periscope lens for a standard 8MP telephoto camera and its ultrawide camera is a 16MP sensor. It doesn’t have a ToF camera. Both phones have a 32MP selfie camera.

Other features include in-display fingerprint scanners, NFC, a 4200mAh battery with support for 40W wired charging and 15W wireless charging on the Pro while the standard version has a 3650mAh battery and 22.5W fast wired charging.

Xiaomi to announce its own eReader on November 20

Amazon’s Kindle line is the most popular e-reader line but there are other big names too like Barnes and Noble’s Nook Glowlight line as well as Canada’s Kobo eReaders. Now, Xiaomi is jumping on the train and will release its first e-ink electronic reader on November 20.

The announcement was made on Weibo today by the official Mijia account and the post revealed the eReader will be crowdfunded like several of its other products.

A sketch of the eReader shows it has thick bezels around the display. It also has a button on the top. There are no buttons on the side bezels like we have on some Nook and Kobo eReaders and there doesn’t seem to be any on the sides. This means all the controls are on-screen.

We don’t know if Xiaomi is building its own library of eBooks or if it will partner with existing ones. We also do not know if it will support audiobooks. If it does it should have an audio jack, though Xiaomi may skip that and allow you to pair a Bluetooth speaker or headphones. Another feature we hope Xiaomi’s eReader has is an IP rating that makes it safe to be used at the pool, on the beach or in the bathroom.

Just like Xiaomi’s other crowdfunded products, we hope this is affordable.

Rumor: Redmi Note 8 Pro with Snapdragon 730G coming soon

The last time Xiaomi launched a Redmi Note phone with two different processors was the Redmi Note 4. It originally launched with an Helio X20 processor and about 5 months later, a Snapdragon 625-powered version was announced. The same thing may happen again with the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Helio G90T processor. When it launched, there were skepticisms about the processor due to it being from MediaTek but reviews have shown it is a more than capable processor. However, new info has surfaced and it reveals there will be a Snapdragon 730G version of the phone.

The info comes from Twitter user Xiaomishka (@xiaomishka) via a tweet he posted. According to him, the new Xiaomi phones with model numbers M1912G7BE and M1912G7BC that appeared on the database of China Communications Commission (3C) belong to the Redmi Note 8 Pro powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G processor.

Earlier, we had reported that the model number might be for the POCO F2 but this new info says otherwise. There is no confirmation yet, so we advise you to take it with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, it is not an unusual development.

A Snapdragon 730G version of the Redmi Note 8 Pro will definitely be well-received. It will also be an alternative to phones like the OPPO Reno 2, Realme X2, and the Realme XT 730G version scheduled for release in India in December.

Xiaomishka adds in his tweet that the Redmi K30 with model number M1911U2E, 5G and MediaTek processor should launch in December. The phone will support both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks. With respect to design, the Redmi K30 will have a display with a punch hole for dual cameras similar to the Galaxy S10+.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro was announced in September. It has a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch that houses a 20MP selfie camera. The Helio G90T processor is paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. A 64MP camera sits on the back of the phone along with an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, IR blaster, audio jack, NFC, and a 4500mAh battery with support for 18W fast charge.

Vivo S5 with an OLED Punch-hole display, Diamond-shaped Quad cameras Official!

When you talk of innovation in the smartphone industry, Vivo is one name that would definitely pop up. The tech giant has been firing on all cylinders, giving us classics such as the Vivo NEX and others. Little wonder the company has consistently retained its spot as one of the top 5 smartphone companies globally. Vivo is again blazing the trail with another innovative smartphone. The Vivo S5 has just been announced at a launch event held in Beijing, China.

The device has been the subject of several leaks and teasers before now. The principal reason is that the device drops as the first non-Samsung phone to pack an OLED punch-hole display. The punch-hole has a miniature diameter of 2.98mm and is located at the top right corner of the screen.

Vivo S5 Specifications and Features

The S5 pack a 6.44-inch OLED display with FullHD+ resolution of 1080 pixels. The device equally has a screen-to-body ratio of 91.38%. The screen also comes with a maximum brightness level of 1200 nits. It is also TUV Rhineland certified meaning it is safe for the eyes. Xiaomi patents Motorola Razr-like foldable phone

The Motorola Razr flip phone is back and it adds a very modern twist to the design. The phone which launched in the early hours of today has a flexible display that folds vertically, thus allowing it to keep its old design. While the new Razr is the first foldable phone with a vertically folding design, it may not hold that title for long.

Samsung teased a phone with a vertically folding design last month. Initially thought to be a teaser for the Samsung W20 5G phone, it turned out not to be. There is still no info about the official name of this vertically foldable design but at least we know Samsung is working on one. But Samsung isn’t the only big-name manufacturer that has plans for a vertically folding phone.

Xiaomi has been granted a patent for a vertically folding phone. The patent was filed back in August 2018 before it was granted and published last month. Sketches of the device show the phone has a small display at the top when folded. This display will likely show info such as time, caller ID, and notifications.

At the bottom half of the phone are dual rear cameras arranged vertically. That does seem like a wrong place to put the cameras seeing as that is where your fingers will naturally rest when holding the phone. However, when held in landscape, you should be able to take photos without covering the lens.

When flipped open, the main display is revealed and it looks like a regular candybar phone. There are no bezels on the sides save for the top, and it is home to what appears to be dual cameras, the earpiece, and a sensor.

This is just a patent and not a confirmation that we will be getting a vertically-folding device from Xiaomi soon. Earlier this year, the Chinese manufacturer showed a working prototype of a dual-folding phone but it is yet to launch.

The upcoming Vivo V17 smartphone has been spotted in a Vietnamese music video, confirming the presence of a rhombic quad-camera setup with an LED flash unit placed vertically below the camera module. The smartphone also has a teardrop notch housing the selfie camera. The Vivo V17 is expected to debut in various markets like Russia, India and Thailand by the end of this month.

The phone that has surfaced in the Vietnamese music video resembles with the spy shots of the Vivo V17 that was recently revealed by a Russian tech blog. The smartphone seems to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. While the volume rocker and power button are placed on the right edge. The USB Type-C port, microphone port and external speakers are present on the bottom edge. The iridescent glass rear panel houses the quad camera setup, which features a similar design to the upcoming Vivo S5.

The Russian site had revealed that the Vivo V17 will break cover by November end in Russia. Rumors have it that Vivo may launch the V17 in India by the end of this month and make it available for buying in the first week of December It is speculated that Vivo plans to gradually phase out the Vivo V17 Pro after the launch of the V17 in the country. The smartphone has bagged approval from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) which suggests that its India launch could be nearing.
