Huawei Watch 3 may likely be called Watch X as Huawei applies for trademark

Huawei is taking things slowly as far as its smartwatch arm is concerned. The company first launched the first-gen Huawei Watch in 2015 and this was followed by the Watch 2 which was only made official last year. There are indications that the company is working on the Watch 3 and that it may arrive with a different moniker. Huawei has reportedly filed an application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) last week to trademark the Huawei Watch X.Huawei Watch 2 (2018)

The company isn’t likely to release the successor to the Watch 2 this year as indicated by Huawei’s Richard Yu, head of consumer electronics division at Huawei. The company did launch the Watch 2 (2018) though, but that is just an incremental upgrade of the Watch 2. So, that leaves us with the option of expecting the smartwatch sometime next year.

It is possible Huawei was waiting for a new Qualcomm smartwatch processor to be delivered before coming out with the Watch X or Watch 3.  Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon Wear 3100 earlier this month as a successor to the Snapdragon Wear 2100 that has been around since 2016. That sets the stage for Huawei to come out with a new-gen smartwatch. Also, the Wear 2 is widely regarded as one of the best Android Wear (now Wear OS) devices ever created, so its successor has high expectations to meet. This could be another reason why Huawei isn’t in a hurry to release the Watch  3. However, the Watch 3, may be announced at CES 2019 as  Huawei Watch X but that isn’t very certain.

More photos of Nokia 7.1 Plus’ display panel leaked along with specs

HMD Global joined the notch train with the Nokia X6/6.1 Plus and Nokia X5/5.1 Plus smartphones. This led people to speculate that a third phone rumored to launch as the Nokia 7.1 Plus/Nokia X7 will also have a notch. A photo alleged to be that of the phone’s display panel showed up a few days ago debunking the notch rumor. Today, another set of photos have again surfaced along with a few details of the phone.

Just like the first photo, this panel has white bezels. The side bezels are thin but the chin and forehead are thicker. The top bezel has three cut-outs which should be home to the front camera, earpiece, and proximity and light sensors.

[envira-gallery id=”212475″]

The display of the Nokia 7.1 Plus is said to be 5.9-inches in size with a 1080 x 2160 processor. That isn’t an upgrade when compared to the Nokia 7 Plus. The main upgrade is supposed to be under the hood. Rumors floating around say the Nokia 7.1 Plus packs a Snapdragon 710 processor. This is a much superior processor compared to the Nokia 7 Plus which is powered by the Snapdragon 660 mobile platform.

The one million smartphone sales include combined sales figures for both of its smartphones — Realm 1 and Realme 2. This development comes just after 4 months of the Realme 1 launch and just two weeks since the Realme 2 went on sale in India.

Realme Sales

During the first flash sale of Realme 2 in India, the company sold 200,000 units within just 5 minutes on online market Flipkart. A week later, during the second flash sale, the company claimed to have sold 170,000 units, bringing the total sales of Realme 2 in India to 370,000 units. The company has not yet revealed the number of units it sold in the third flash sale that took place today.

It has a Face Unlock feature that is claimed to unlock the smartphone in just 0.1 seconds. It runs ColorOS 5.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and is fueled by a 3,410mAh battery.

Realme 2 Color Options

On the other hand, the Realme 2 features a bigger 6.2-inch display but the company has downgraded the screen resolution from Full HD to 720p HD+. The FullView 2.5D curved glass display with 18:9 aspect ratio offers a screen resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

It is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and comes in two variants — 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. There’s a 13-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel shooter for taking selfies and video calling. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with the company’s own ColorOS 5.1 custom interface and is fuelled by a bigger 4,230mAh battery.

New Xiaomi TVs running Android TV get certified, powered by new Amlogic chipsets

Xiaomi has been in the smart TV business for a couple of years now but next year it will be joined by OnePlus, another Chinese phone maker. Released under the Xiaomi TV brand, Xiaomi’s smart TVs run a customized version of Android and not Android TV, but that may be changing soon.

Xiaomi Mi TV

A new leak has revealed that Xiaomi has three new TV’s in the pipeline that will run Android TV out of the box instead of its customized version of Android. The three TVs are named Mi 4 Pro, Mi 4A Pro, and Mi 4C Pro. The info comes from Twitter account @androidtv_rumor.

The trio of devices will run Android TV 8.1 Oreo which is the latest version of Google’s custom OS for TVs. The tweet also reveals some few details about each device save for their screen size.

The Mi 4 Pro will have a 4K display, 2GB of RAM and an Amlogic T960X processor. The Mi 4A Pro will have a Full HD display, pack the same RAM as above but come with a less powerful chipset – the Amlogic T950X. The Mi 4C Pro will have an HD screen, 1GB of RAM, and the same Amlogic T950X chipset as the Mi 4A Pro. Based on these specs, it is easy to tell which TV will have the cheapest price tag and the one with the highest price tag.

There is something else interesting about these details – the chipsets. They are new and may likely debut in these products. Sadly we couldn’t get any information on their clock speed, cores, and GPU.

We believe these new TVs may be destined for markets in Europe like Italy, France, Spain, and Turkey. Xiaomi began selling its products in some of these markets recently but its smart TVs are currently not sold there. It makes sense if these new ones running Android TV are heading to these countries.

Xiaomi ads are now being shown in the Settings app: Users Report

Xiaomi MIUI custom ROM is loved by many of its fans, but there’s a section of the population who shy away from the OS due to its heavy UI, in-phone ads and other reasons. It looks like Xiaomi is now giving users another chance to dislike its MIUI interface by adding push ads in the settings app of the phone. This news comes via users on Reddit reporting that they have found push ads in the settings app of Xiaomi devices.

Xiaomi Settings ad

A reddit users u/chootingfeng posted a screenshot where ads can be seen in the settings menu. The same user owns two Xiaomi devices, Mi Max 2 and Mi Note LTE, but it is unclear, which device is showing the ads. He added that after updating the phone to version 8.9.13 of MIUI the ads’ frequency have increased. On restarting every app like Music, Security, etc, he’s getting the ad despite having turned off the recommendations in settings.

This is not a new scenario, Xiaomi has often displayed ads on its phones. But until now, the ads were shown only in Xiaomi default apps, with the exception of the core apps. Today, Xiaomi seems to have introduced ads in the core settings apps, which is quite a surprising move. But note that only few users are reporting it, so it might be a temporary test and not a full fledged change on the MIUI ROM in general.

It’s always remained a big question why Xiaomi resorts to ads inside MIUI? But do note that the company provides an option to switch off these ads. However, it is quite complex to follow.  The procedure to turn of the ads is applicable only to a single app at a time and you have to repeat the process to turn off the ads in other company apps as well. In short, for a normal user its very hard to avoid these kinds of ads on their Xiaomi devices.

What do you think ? Are you okay with a couple of ads on your Xiaomi phone?

Also, have you seen ads in the settings menu of your Xiaomi phone?
