Lenovo announces five new tablets, two running Android Oreo (Go Edition)

Lenovo is one of the top manufacturers still making Android tablets. Today, the Chinese manufacturer announced five new ones with sizes between 7 and 10-inches and pricing starting at $69.99.

Lenovo Tab E7

The Lenovo Tab E7 is the first Android Go tablet in the market, proving that Google’s Android OS for devices with 1GB RAM or less isn’t for phones only. The tablet has a 7-inch display as the name says with a 1200 x 600 resolution. It is powered by a MediaTek MT8167 (4 x Cortex A35 cores) with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

Don’t expect anything great with the 2MP rear camera and the VGA front camera. A 2750mAh battery is under the polycarbonate body which Lenovo says should suffice for 5 hours of video playback.

The Lenovo Tab E7 will be exclusive to Walmart and will sell for $69.99 when it goes on sale in October.

Lenovo Tab E8

The Tab E8 is next in terms of pricing. It has an 8-inch 1280 x 800 display, an MT8163B quad-core chipset with an ARM Mali-T720 GPU. It also has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, expandable via a MicroSD card slot.

It packs a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. Surprisingly, it runs Android Nougat and not Android Oreo. It also has a 4850mAh battery for up to 10 hours of movie watching.

The Lenovo Tab E8 will sell for $99 and can be purchased on Walmart starting today.

Lenovo Tab E10

The Lenovo Tab E10 has a 10-inch 1280 x 800 display. It comes with the four years old Snapdragon 210 processor and it is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

It also has a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera like the E8 but adds stereo front-facing speakers with Dolby Atmos. The Lenovo Tab E10 has a 4850mAh battery and also runs Android Oreo (Go Edition). It will sell for about $130 when it goes on sale in October.

Lenovo Tab M10

The Tab M10 has a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1080 screen. It has a Snapdragon 450 processor just like that of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 and has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and battery is also 4850mAh. Cameras are the same configuration as the E10 (5MP on the rear and 2MP in front). Thankfully, it runs the full version of Android Oreo.

Lenovo Tab P10

Last but not the least is the Lenovo Tab P10 also packs a 10.1-inch screen but with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and slimmer bezels. It is powered by the Snapdragon 450 also but comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Huawei P20 series, Mate 10 Pro get significant discount before upcoming launch

Huawei Mate 20 series isn’t too far away from its official unveiling. The Chinese tech giant has already disclosed that the Kirin 980 chipset will be released at IFA Berlin 2018 on August 31. The company’s first 7nm Kirin 980 chipset will power the Mate 20 models. Perhaps to clear its existing stock before the arrival of the Mate 20, Huawei has adjusted the prices of the P20 series as well as the Mate 10 Pro.

Presently, all the P20 models are now 400 yuan ($58) cheaper while the P20 Pro models have a 500 yuan (~$73) flat price cut. Consequently, the Huawei P20 6GB+64GB version is offered for 3388 yuan, the 6GB+128GB version for 3888 yuan ($492). While the P20 Pro 6GB+64GB version now retails for 4488 yuan ($652), the 6GB+128GB version for 4988 yuan ($725), the 6GB+256GB version for 5788 yuan ($841).

Huawei also slashed the price of the Mate 10 Pro but this is a limited time offer. The two models of the Mate 10 Pro are offered for 400 yuan less their prices and you can buy now in China for 3599 yuan ($523) for the 6GB + 64GB version while the 6GB + 128GB version comes with a price tag of 3999 yuan ($581). With the sales figures released by Huawei which showed the company has sold up to 20 millions P20 units this year, it is unlikely that the company has a large inventory of all the models in stock. So, the stock may get exhausted in no distant time. The Mate 10 Pro may likely not be available on the official channel after the Mate 20 is launched but the P20 and P20 could still be available until next year when we’ll see the P30.

OPPO R17 launched with SD 670, Onscreen fingerprint, Gradient back and Gorilla Glass 6

OPPO has launched the much-anticipated R17 mid-range flagship. The OPPO R17 was unveiled alongside the R17 Pro at an event held in Shanghai, China.

The OPPO R17 comes with a 6.4-inch water drop display with a 91.5% screen ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The device also comes with a valley-like notch on top of the display which houses the selfie camera. The bezels on all four sides are considerably small. At the back, the R17 features a magical gradient design that comes in a variety of colours including Streamer Blue, Neon Violet, and Foggy gradients. The fog light gradient uses 3D fog glass and a new condensing grading process so that the colours blend with each other on the back of the phone, and the flow gradually changes with the light and shadow, and the recognition is extremely high.

In terms of its specification, the OPPO R17 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset. The R17 is the first model to come with the new Snapdragon 670 processor. The SD 670 chipset was announced by Qualcomm earlier this month and GeekBench records had shown that the chipset is very much similar in performance to the equally new Snapdragon 710 chipset but a little less powerful. the Snapdragon 670 is a 10nm chipset. It even has the same Kryo 360 cores (eight) as the SDM710 but is clocked at 2.0GHz. The chipset is also equipped with an Adreno 615 GPU as against Adreno 616 GPU on the SDM710. The R17 comes in two RAM versions – 6GB and 8GB RAM, both pairing up with 128GB of internal storage. Providing the interface is the Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2 while a 3500mAh battery with support for VOOC fast charging keeps the lights on.

Furthermore, the OPPO R17 comes with a new light-sensitive fingerprint technology which is under the display of the phone. The screen comes with built-in super-sensing components of which a single pixel is 1.25 micron, thus improving the light utilization and sensitivity. The phone will be unlocked in just seconds if a registered fingerprint touches the sensitive area of the screen. The fingerprint technology also supports WeChat payment And Alipay payment.

On the camera end, the device packs a 25MP front-facing shooter. The camera comes with 8 models and supports real-time viewing of beauty effects. The camera also has artificial intelligence which learns the users’ beauty habits. At the rear, there is a dual camera setup comprising of a 21MP main sensor and an 8MP depth of field sensor. The rear camera also comes with artificial intelligence.

Talking of the price, the 6GB + 128GB version is priced at 3199 yuan ($465) while the 8GB + 128GB version goes for 3499 yuan ($508). The fog light gradient colour available in 8GB + 128GB memory goes for 3599 yuan (~$523).

HTC to launch new device on August 30, might be the U12 Life

HTC took to Twitter in the early hours of today to announce that it has an event on August 30. The tweet includes a caption that reads “Beauty and power meet on August 30th 2018” and is accompanied by a poster which teases the product belongs to the U-series.

Based on previous rumors, the phone we think HTC may unveil on that day is the HTC U12 Life, a successor to the mid-range U11 Life from last year. The phone is expected to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636, a 6-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 1080 x 2160 resolution. It will also have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

For optics, the HTC U12 Life will have 12MP + 5MP dual rear cameras and a single 13MP front-facing camera with its own selfie flash. The new 18:9 aspect ratio will mean the fingerprint scanner will find a new home and the back of the phone is the most likely position.

Huawei’s latest teaser confirms Kirin 980 launches August 31

Huawei will be attending this year’s edition of IFA which begins on August 31 and will run till September 5. Huawei will most likely not be announcing any new phones but it sure will take the wraps off its latest flagship processor, the Kirin 980, and a new video teaser from the manufacturer further confirms this.

The 7-second video was uploaded on Weibo today and it reveals Huawei will have a live event on the first day of the trade show. While the video doesn’t explicitly mention that the Kirin 980 will be announced, one can see the shape of a chipset in the video.

The Kirin 980 will appear first in the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro set to launch in October. The new chipset will also appear in other Huawei and Honor flagships such as the Honor V11/View 11 and the Huawei P30 series which launches next year.

Huawei releases MateBook X Pro with 8GB RAM+512GB SSD (No Nvidia Graphics Card) for non-gamers

Back at MWC 2018 when Huawei unveiled the MateBook X Pro, it was announced in four different configurations with three of them having NVIDIA’s MX150 graphics card. Now, Huawei has released a fifth model that comes with the same Core i7 processor as the higher models but ditches the NVIDIA graphics card.

The new model has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD but doesn’t have an MX150 GPU. Huawei says this model is targeted at those who want the storage but don’t need the extra 8GB RAM and MX150 GPU of the highest model. So practically, this is for non-gamers.

The new model still has a 13.9-inch 3000 x 2000 LTPS touch display with its super thin bezels and 91% screen-to-body ratio. It has a 57.4Wh battery which Huawei says can last 12 up to 12 hours for video playback. It also supports fast charge.

There are two USB-C ports and a single USB-A port for connectivity. It also has a headphone jack, four speakers, and four long-range microphones for Cortana. The keyboard is spill-proof and there is a fingerprint scanner buried under the power button. It also has a pop-up webcam that is nestled between the F7 and F8 keys.

The Mi 8 SE is turning out to be a best-seller for Xiaomi since it officially went on sale The premium mid-range model was launched alongside the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition on May 31. Xiaomi has released a new version of its Mi Notebook PC. The new version comes with 8th-gen Intel processors, an NVIDIA GPU, and a full-sized keyboard – complete with a dedicated number pad.

The new Mi Notebook has a 15.6-inch FHD screen and is powered by Intel’s 8th-gen processors. Depending on the model, you either get a Core i5 or Core i7 processor. The Core i5 variant comes in 4GB RAM and 8GB RAM versions. Irrespective of the model you purchase, you get 128GB of SSD storage paired with 1TB of HDD. LG V40 ThinQ renders reveal its five-camera design; V45 to be first 5G LG Phone

LG has so far released LG V30S ThinQ, G7 ThinQ and V35 ThinQ and the company is now prepping on the launch of its next V-series phone – the LG V40 ThinQ. Fresh information reveals that the South Korean company will be releasing the LG V40 ThinQ in the market after the Apple debut its new iPhones. Fresh renders of the smartphone have surfaced to reveal its design.

The LG V40 ThinQ renders reveal that it is fitted with a notched display. However, the black bars present on the either side of the notch suggests that the phone will come with an option to hide it. The notch of the V40 ThinQ is equipped with dual selfie cameras, an earpiece and some other sensors.

Moving to the glass rear of the LG V40 ThinQ, it feature horizontally arranged triple rear cameras and a fingerprint scanner. An LED flash is placed on the right side of the triple camera system. The bottom edge of the V40 ThinQ features a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C port and an external speaker. The left side of the phone features volume up and down buttons followed by a dedicated key for accessing Google Assistant. Its right edge is equipped with a power key and SIM card tray.

The renders leak did not reveal any information on it specifications. It is speculated that it would be featuring a P-OLED screen, Snapdragon 845 SoC, Android 9 Pie OS and quad-DAC.

According to a South Korean publication, the G7 ThinQ smartphone has encountered lackluster sales as the company could sell only half the number of 3 million internal sales goal. It is speculated that LG is readying 500,000 units of V40 ThinQ for the initial sale. The smartphone may hit the market in the first week of October or the 10^th of the same month.

The publication has also claimed that LG is working on the LG V45 to launch its first 5G smartphone in 2019. The handset may borrow specs from G7 ThinQ and V40 ThinQ in a bid to reduce expenses. The V45 ThinQ may feature the same display panel and camera modules that are arriving on the upcoming V40 ThinQ.

The report also claims that LG was working two flagship phones with Phoenix and Falcon codenames. Among the two, Falcon phone is said to be inferior than Phoenix. Since LG reportedly failed to convince carriers to sell the Falcon model, the company sold it to Google. The Pixel 3 XL that has appeared in the recent leaks could be the Falcon phone made by LG.

Xiaomi reports 68% revenue jump in Q2 2018, ships 32 million smartphones

Xiaomi has shared its financials for the three-month period of Q2 2018, where the company has reported a significant jump in its revenues and a surprise profit. This comes on the hill of Xiaomi’s Hong Kong initial public offering (IPO) last month.

The China-based company has reported a profit of 14.6 billion yuan (approximately $2.1 billion) in the second quarter, a significant jump compared to the last year when the company reported 11.9 billion yuan.

The company says that its sales grew 68.3 percent to 45.23 billion yuan, up from 26.9 billion yuan a year earlier. The growth in sales for Xiaomi can be attributed to the higher smartphone sales volume and higher average selling price for these devices.

Xiaomi, which is mainly known for its budget smartphones, recorded revenue of 30.5 billion yuan for its smartphone business in the second quarter, a surge of 58.7 percent compared to the same period last year. The company claimed that it managed total shipments of 32 million smartphone units in Q2 2018.

However, analysts believe that the Chinese company is eyeing for the Internet-of-Things (IoT) market. Xiaomi reported that revenue from its IoT products, which includes smart TV sets and laptop computers, increased 104.3 percent to 10.4 billion yuan. Further, it adds that revenue from internet services, which include online advertising, rose 63.6 percent to 4 billion yuan.

The company reports that 36 percent of the revenue comes from international markets. Its worldwide growth is 151 percent on a yearly basis and while the increase comes predominantly from India, the company also reports about progress in Indonesia and European countries.

In line with its dream of dominating the global markets, Xiaomi recently launched a new sub-brand name POCO in India and POCOPHONE globally. The brand will focus on premium affordable devices to take on the likes of OnePlus and Huawei’s Honor. Yesterday, it launched the first smartphone under this new brand — POCO F1, which is touted as the cheapest Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone, with price starting at Rs. 19,999, roughly $286.
