Nokia 8 Sirocco was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 as a major upgrade over Nokia 8 flagship phone from last year. The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with a trendy full screen design and it runs on cleaner Android One (Android 8.0 Oreo) out-of-the-box. However, it is powered by Snapdragon 835 which also powers the Nokia 8. Fresh information reveals that HMD Global will be launching two Snapdragon 845 chipset powered flagship phones later this year, namely Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 9. The Nokia 8 Pro is expected to debut as a cheaper Snapdragon 845 while the Nokia 9 will be a premium phone.
Nokia 9 is rumored to arrive with a 5.7-inch display. Even though the source has not confirmed, there is a possibility that the screen will offer an 18:9 aspect ratio. It could be the company’s first phone to arrive with under-display fingerprint sensor. It may higher storage and RAM than the Nokia 8 Pro.
The USP of the phone could be its penta-lens camera setup. It will be competing with premium flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S9+. It is expected to get announced in September this year.
A report from the previous month had carried images of what appeared like real Nokia 9 handset. The handset was spotted with dual edge curved display panel and dual camera setup.
Nokia 8 Pro is expected to debut in August this year. It is rumored to house a 5.5-inch display. As mentioned above, the Snapdragon 845 SoC that is pegged to power the Nokia 9 is also expected to be present under the hood of Nokia 8 Pro. However, the handset is expected to arrive with a lower pricing. Last year, the Nokia 8 competed with the likes of OnePlus 5T and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2. Hence, the Nokia 8 Pro could be designed to take on cheaper flagships like OnePlus 6 and Mi MIX 3.
The rumor mill is expected to reveal more information on the Nokia 9 and Nokia 8 Pro flagship phones in the coming month.

We already know that the series will consist of three devices — Huawei P20, P20 Pro, and P20 Lite. However, the latest report from China suggests that the company could add another variant as well — Huawei P20 Porsche Edition.
While there is no much information available about this Porsche Edition of the Huawei P20, the report indicates that the device will be pricey, exceeding the price point of 6,000 Yuan, which roughly converts to $949.

Huawei seems very confident about its upcoming flagship devices. Recently, Huawei CEO Richard Yu not only claimed that the upcoming P20 will be better than Apple‘s iPhone X but also stated that the company would leapfrog Apple in a year or two.

At the end of this month, Xiaomi will be launching the Mi MIX 2S flagship as its first Snapdragon 845 chipset phone. Two days ago, the company had claimed that it would be revealing an important news about the Mi MIX 2S in this week. Now, at the very beginning of this week, the company has teased on Weibo that the camera of the Mi MIX 2S will possess AI capabilities. Here is the image that the company has teased on Weibo.
The Weibo post that accompanies the image suggests its fans to look carefully at it and guess whether the effect is made through camera’s feature or AI software. The post goes on to say that the Mi MIX 2S will be coming with technological breakthrough in AI and photography. It could mean that the phone may feature AI for other things, but the image clearly hints that it will be effectively using AI in photography.
The firmware files of Mi MIX 2S had revealed that its camera will be blessed with scene recognition. For enhanced photography, it will be able to identify various kinds of scenes such as doc (document), flower, food, sky, sunrise/sunset, cat, dog, green plants, night, snow, sea, autumn, candlelight, car, grass, maple leaves, succulent, building, city, cloud, overcast and backlight.
It is speculated that the Mi MIX 2S would be arriving with Sony IMX363 camera. It is the very same camera sensor that is found on the ASUS ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z smartphones that were recently unveiled. Some rumors have claimed that the Mi MIX 2S will be coming with dual rear cameras and Sony IMX363 could be one of its lenses.
Xiaomi MI MIX 2S has already teased in the previous week it will be able to churn better performance than other rivals using the same chipset. Nokia is back and there are indices to show that the HMD Global controlled company still commands a huge followership. The company made its sophomore appearance at the MWC 2018 after its first appearance since HMD took over the reins last year at MWC 2017. At the just concluded MWC, Nokia managed to collect several awards, more than two dozens by our count, during the 4-day event. Nokia’s CEO put the number of awards at 21.
Apart from collecting that record number of awards, it has now emerged that Nokia was the most mentioned brand during the trade fair. Despite the presence of heavyweights such as Samsung, Apple, Google and Huawei, the Finnish company is revealed in a survey published by Brandwatch in partnership with Twitter to have stolen the show. The survey showed that Nokia was number 1 most mentioned brand, followed by Samsung at the second position and then Huawei, Google and Apple in that order.
Nokia caused quite some steer with its launch of the Nokia 8 Sirrocco edition, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018) and the Nokia 8110 4G phone. The fame of the company at the event cannot really be attributed to the awesome design or powerful specs of the products only. But its partly due to the feeling of nostalgia which the Nokia phone elicits among fans. That isn’t going to end soon except HMD Global blows off this golden opportunity. At the moment, they seem to be on the right track.
After showcasing Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ at MWC 2018, Samsung has launched the Galaxy S9 in a new Enterprise Edition in Germany, alongside the cheaper brother Samsung Galaxy A8. These versions are focused on software and security, so they are excellent for business. The existence of an Enterprise Edition of these devices was already \ teased in a promotional video surfaced before the launch of the Galaxy S9, and now it is confirmed.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy A8 Enterprise Edition come with three-year licenses for Knox Configure (Dynamic Edition) and the Enterprise Firmware OTA service. Samsung has guaranteed a total of four years of security updates for these devices. To be accurate, there will be three years of monthly security updates and one year of quarterly updates. The administrator will be able to choose whether to install the firmware updates and the scheduled updates or not.
The Enterprise Editions of Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy A8 also come with a hybrid dual SIM slot: it will be possible to insert two SIM Cards or a SIM and a micro SD card. Two years of warranty are included in the package. Samsung Galaxy S9 Enterprise Edition has been launched with a price of €849 in Germany, while the A8 costs €499, which roughly translate into $1050 and $550, respectively.
With smartphones displays getting bigger and bigger every day, people have started worrying about the dimensions of their handsets. Borderless displays are the perfect solution to this problem, and they also look very gorgeous. That is why all the smartphones manufacturers are trying to shave off the bezels around the display, and Meizu has filed a new patent which allows to do it gracefully (first reported by Evan Blass). The current solution for full screen phones is to reduce the bezels by adding a notch on the upper part of the front panel, housing the front camera, the earpiece, and other important sensors.
We first saw it on the iPhone X, and many smartphones manufacturers are imitating it by releasing devices with a notch. But the new patent filed by Meizu gets an even better result. We are talking about an in-display camera which sits just under the same Graphene glass used for the display. The choice of Graphene as the material to make the front panel is because of its transparent nature which allows light to penetrate into the camera sensor. A light sensor and a proximity sensor seems to be included in the patent as well under the display.
In the image of the patent, it is also possible to see an earpiece stuck to the upper border of the front panel. The in-display camera may allow upcoming Meizu devices to have a screen-to-body ratio very close to 100 percent. But at this moment there is no info about the launch of a phone with this technology. From what we know, it may even become just another patent that doesn’t see the light of the day. The most important bezel-less devices which should be announced by Meizu this year are Meizu 15 and 15 Plus. The two flagship phones will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the company.
Huawei recently trademarked the Mate X moniker, which makes us think that the company has planned the launch of a brand new high-end device. Well, the company may have decided to trademark this moniker just to defend itself from the competition, because other companies using similar names for their products might cause an issue to its branding. But recent leaks have suggested that the Mate X may really exist. A new page spotted on TENAA websites contains some info about a device with the model number NEO-AL00, which is said to be the Huawei Mate X.
According to some firmware files which recently surfaced, the Huawei device identified by the model number NEO-AL00 is a flagship phone. It sports the most powerful SoC ever released by Huawei: the octa-core Kirin 970, which is also the same as the Huawei Mate 10 and the upcoming P20. According to rumours, the letter A inside the model number stands for the configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. If it is really so, the alleged Huawei Mate X may be a high-end device, but note that it may not be the best flagship by the company.
Besides performance, it may also focus on the quality-price ratio, given that nowadays every flagship has at least 64 GB of internal storage. Recently, the customer service of Huawei mall hinted at the arrival of new a series of smartphones, and this is another info which makes us think that Huawei Mate X is in development.
At MWC 2018, Huawei released a device with a similar name. We are referring to the flagship convertible tablet MateBook X Pro, which comes with an Intel Core i7 8th gen CPU in its most powerful configuration. Everything seems to be suggesting that if a Huawei Mate X does exists, it will be one of the most important handsets by the Chinese giant.
New alleged promotional images of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S which have just been shared online are hinting at a nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio. In fact, unlike previous renders, we can’t even see the front camera in these renders, which makes us seriously doubt its authenticity. These images may be showing the long-awaited Full Screen 3.0 technology, with the highest screen-to-body ratio ever. The bezels of the phone are as narrow as the ones of the iPhone X (more or less), but there is no notch to house the earpiece and the front camera: this means that the STB ratio is even higher than iPhone X.
Even though a leaked schematics and several images hinted at a little notch on the top right corner for the selfie camera, these alleged promotional images are not showing any notch. In the promotional image, we can see the rear side of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S as well. It should be made either of glass or ceramic and in the image, we can see the White variant of the handset which hints at a fully ceramic design. On the back cover, there is a dual camera setup in a vertical configuration, a dual LED flash and a fingerprint reader under the secondary sensor.
At the unveiling of the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India last month, Xiaomi also announced the Mi LED TV 4 55”. Unfortunately, the TV was out of stock before buyers could even click “Buy Now” on the first sale day. Next sale is on the 6th of March by the way.
Xiaomi must have seen the success of the Mi LED TV 4 hence its plan to launch a new TV – the Mi LED Smart 4C 43” on March 7. Although the launch is still a few days away, the TV has been seen on the official Mi India website.
The product page is actually not available but the purchase page is what is visible. The specs are also not listed but the price of the Mi LED TV 4C is put at Rs. 27,999 (~$430).
The Mi LED TV 4C is available in China as the Mi TV 4C. It has a FHD screen with a 1920 x 1080 display. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage and is powered by a quad-core Amlogic T962-HX processor.
There is Dolby Audio and DTS-HD audio decoding. For connectivity, the TV has 3x USB 2.0 ports, 3x HDMI ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an ethernet port.
This year, Huawei will be making a huge jump in the naming of its main flagships. Its upcoming P-series flagship which should be called the P11 will launch as the Huawei P20. It turns out the same will happen to the Mate series as well.
It was reported earlier that Huawei wants to keep the naming uniform on both of its major flagships hence its decision to change the Plus model of the P-series to Pro.
A new leak has now revealed that the Mate series will also be getting a name change. The leak comes from a Weibo user by the name @lumisky.
According to him, the next Mate phone will be called the Huawei Mate 20 (and Mate 20 Pro) and not Mate 11 (and Mate 11 Pro).

Xiaomi has added a new 40 inches model to the Mi TV 4A lineup. The new 40 inches model will likely be a Jingdong exclusive and is already up for reservation on the e-commerce platform. With this new version, the Xiaomi Mi TV 4A is now available in 32, 40, 43, 49, 55 and 65 inches. Most of all, this version comes with a cheaper price tag and an added feature which is voice control.

The processor paired with just 1GB of DDR4 RAM. The device also offers jus 8GB eMMC5.1 flash memory on this version. It should be noted that the RAM and storage size of this model is lower than those of the other Mi TV 4A models but that also makes the price tag cheaper.

Blackview has released quite a few phones over the time and the company does not seem to stop. In fact, they have released a lot of new phones at MWC a few days ago and I had a chance to check them out.
Blackview BV9500
The BV9500 is one of the latest editions in the rugged phones lineup. The phone is water, dust, and shock resistant thanks to IP68 certification and rugged design. One of the highlights of the device is a whopping 9180mAh battery. The key specs include the dual-camera setup on the back, MTK6763 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM. In the hand, the phone feels nice and sturdy. I especially like a sturdy metal frame and a dedicated camera button.
Blackview BV5800 Pro
The BV5800 Pro is a rugged phone geared towards budget-minded users (price is not yet released). The design of this phone reminds me of the Blackview BV7000 Pro that was released quite a while ago. Again, we have a combination of metal and rubber on the back and sides. Since this phone will most likely be cheaper, it ships with a less powerful MTK6739 chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. The device has a huge 5000mAh battery and Android 8.1 is running the show.
Blackview A20
If you take a look at the specs of the A20, you would presume a low price of the device. This phone has 18:9 aspect ratio display, plasticky build and it rocks a good old Mediatek 6580 chipset. In fact, this is one of the Android GO phones, meaning that it runs on a simplified version of Google’s OS. That may be the reason why the A20 has just 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
Blackview P6000 Plus
The P6000 Plus is one of the most beautiful phones Blackview has announced at MWC. The standout features include the 6″ in-cell 1080p panel that rocks 18:9 aspect ratio. Also, I love the blue color glass backplate and round edges on the back and on the front. The overall build quality seems to be pretty good. Other key specs include MTK6750T chip, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM and a huge 6180mAh battery with the quick charge support.
Blackview P10000 Pro
As the name implies, this phone rocks a massive 10000mAh battery with the quick charge support. As for design, you can feel the weight of the phone. The device has a metal frame on the sides and metal design elements on the back. Speaking of the back, it is made of genuine leather. As for specifications, the phone has a MTK6763 chipset, 6″ 18:9 1080p+ display, dual camera setup on the back, 64GB ROM and 4GB RAM.
Pricing and availability on these phones is not yet disclosed. We will surely keep you updated on that, so stay tuned to Gizmochina.
