Honor Play 7C Official Video Ad Teases Its Dual Cameras & Facial Recognition

Huawei’s Honor brand is expected to launch the Honor Play 7C on March 12. It is just three days to the launch event and the company has intensified its efforts to promote the device. A new teaser video is the latest medium for such promotion.

The video which was posted on Honor’s official Weibo page basically teases the already confirmed features of a dual camera setup and facial recognition technology which would be onboard the device. You can check out the video from below.

The specification and design of the Honor Play 7C have already been revealed when the device received certification from the Chinese Telecoms regulatory agency TENAA. From the TENAA listing, we can grab that the Honor Play 7C will pack a 5.99-inch full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and narrow bezels. The midrange model will be available in a 3GBRAM and 4GB RAM variant and both versions will be fueled by a 1.8GHz Octa-core processor believed to be a Kirin chipset. The device will also come with dual-SIM card slots as well as a separate microSD slot. On the design angle, the rear cameras will be located at the top left corner, aligned in a horizontal plane and will be a 13MP + 20MP combo with LED flash. While the selfie camera will be an 8MP sensor which seems to also have an LED flash. There is also going to be a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device will get its juice from a disappointed 2900mAh battery. Honor Play 7C will run Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 out of the box.

Meizu 15, 15 Plus and 15 Lite Receive 3C Certification, Key Specs Leaked

Meizu will be launching the Meizu E3 mid-range phone on March 21. The company is also expected to launch Meizu 15 series soon after the launch of Meizu E3. The Meizu 15 lineup that includes Meizu 15, Meizu 15 Plus and Meizu 15 Lite will be unveiled in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the company. All the family members of the Meizu 15 have received 3C certification and their key specs have also surfaced.

The three family members of the Meizu 15 series with model numbers M891, M881 and M712 has received certification from China Compulsory Certification (3C) in China. The 3C certification is a mandatory product approval system in China that supervises over charger rates for smartphones.

The 3C certification of Meizu M881 and M891 reveals that they carry support for 24W fast charging and a new UP1220S charger. It is speculated that the Meizu M891 and M881 model numbers respectively belong to Meizu 15 and Meizu 15 Plus. The M712 that is enabled with 18W fast charging could be arriving in the market as Meizu 15 Lite.

The Chinese manufacturer has officially confirmed that the Meizu 15 will be powered by Snapdragon 660 and the Meizu 15 Plus will be arriving with Samsung’s Exynos 8895 chipset. The Samsung SoC can be found under the hood of flagship phones like the Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8. It is speculated that the Snapdragon 636 chipset will be powering the Meizu 15 Lite.

The Meizu 15 series will be arriving with 18:9 aspect ratio supporting display. Like the Meizu M6s and the upcoming Meizu E3, the Meizu 15 family members will be equipped with side-mounted fingerprint reader.

According to a Japanese publication, the Meizu 15, 15 Plus and 15 Lite phones have appeared on official Android site. It has revealed that the Meizu 15 will be coming with 5.5-inch display (probably AMOLED), 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage options and Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS.

The Meizu 15 Plus will be featuring 6-inch AMOLED display, 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB and 128 GB storage options and Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. The Meizu 15 Lite will be arriving with a 5.5-inch display, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB and 64 GB storage and Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The source claims that none of the Meizu 15 series support NFC. Previous reports have suggested speculated that the Meizu 15 series will be unveiled in China in April.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s will be officially launched on March 27 and ahead of the launch, we have had a couple of teasers from the tech giant centred on the features the device will pack. The latest teaser from Xiaomi seems to be the presence of wireless charging technology on the flagship device.

This isn’t the first time we are getting the rumour that the Mi Mix 2s will support wireless charging technology but this seems to officially confirm the presence of wireless charging. Although it isn’t explicitly stated that the device will come with wireless charging, the presence of what looks like a charging pad and the battery charging sign diagrams on the poster. The poster also contains the text “Not just” with a sign that resembles Qualcomm’s quick charge and we believe this implies that the device will not only have fast charging support but will also support wireless charging. We won’t be needing any text to decipher this one. It is, no doubt, wireless charging technology. The question which would then arise is if the company will launch the smartphone bundled with the charging pad. That is the likely scenario and so we may not just see the Mi Mix 2s on March 27 but also a new wireless charging pad, Xiaomi’s first.

It should be noted that to the best of our knowledge, Xiaomi is yet to release a smartphone with wireless charging support. So, the Mix 2s is likely going to be the first. The flagship Mix series phone will also score another first on the processor aspect. It will be Xiaomi’s first model to utilize Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. Other features of the Mi Mix 2s include a premium full-screen, bezel-less display design with 18:9 aspect ratio, up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage as well as under-display fingerprint technology. Further, the Mi Mix 2s is expected to feature a dual camera setup which is another first for the Mix series model and will be supporting Google ARCore AR software solution at launch. A recent teaser suggests the dual camera sensors may have the ability to function independently. That is in addition to the AI camera feature also teased to be onboard the flagship device.

Huawei Y9 (2018) is an upcoming budget-phone that it expected to launch soon. A recent report has claimed that it will be launching in Thailand on March 15. However, there is no official confirmation on it yet. The teaser that was leaked by popular leakster Evan Blass claims that the Huawei Y9 is the best 4G smartphone. Fresh renders of the Huawei Y9 has appeared in blue, gold and black to reveal its design.

The rear view of the Huawei Y9 shows that it will be arriving with dual camera setup. The back panel of the phone is also equipped with a fingerprint scanner. The antenna bands are placed on the upper and lower edges of the rear panel. The front view of the phone shows it that it will be sporting a full screen design. The chin of the device features Huawei branding and the upper bezel seems to house dual front-facing cameras.

The handset has been certified by TENAA in China, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. and The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in Thailand in the recent weeks. The source of this leak has also revealed the entire specifications of the Huawei Y9. The handset will be housing FullView Display of 5.93 inches. It will be supporting Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The mid-range Kirin 659 chipset will be powering the smartphone along with 3 GB of RAM. It has an inbuilt storage of 32 GB and it also carries support for microSD storage.

The Y9 will be release in the market with Android 8.0 Oreo OS and EMUI 8.0 skin. Its dual selfie snapper includes a 16-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor. The 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup resides on the rear of the phone. It will be featuring a 3,900mAh battery to keep the lights on. The Huawei Y9’s metal unibody chassis measures 157.2 x 75.3 x 7.89 mm and it weighs around 170 grams. As of this writing, there is no information available on the pricing of the phone.

Oppo And Vivo Scales Down Retail Expansion, Shifts Focus To Generating Revenue In India

Oppo and Vivo, the two Chinese smartphone brands took over the Indian smartphone market with its aggressive spending on marketing in order to reach more people through offline channels.

However, that is no longer the case. As per the reports, both companies are changing their strategy of reaching more places within India. Instead, the companies are now focusing on generating revenue.

Both the companies have even cut their spendings. Recently, Oppo and Vivo slashed margins for the retailers by about 40 percent. The move led to a backlash which resulted in the company losing about 10,000 sales outlets each.

According to various reports, both the companies had about 70,000 outlets each in the country before the margin cuts. And now, the number of stores selling their phones have fallen. Navkendar Singh of International Data Corporation says that Oppo and Vivo have rationalized distribution and are choosing to be available on fewer counters where they have strong visibility and sales.

As a result, Oppo has moved out of the top five rankings in the smartphone segment with a 4 percent share in January from 9 percent a year ago. In the same time, Vivo’s market share halved to 7 percent.

Vivo has already confirmed this change of strategy. The company’s spokesperson said, “regarding Vivo’s trade channel strategy, we have redeployed our distribution strategy with a focus on providing varied choices and experience for consumers.” The spokesperson also added that the company will focus more on online sales following the launch of its own e-store in India.

Some experts believe that Oppo and Vivo are now following the path of Xiaomi, another Chinese smartphone brand, which managed to dethrone Samsung from the pole position in the last two quarters of 2017. Xioami has a strong online presence and sells its devices offline through select retail partners along with its Mi Store.

Vivo has recently launched its official online store in India to sell its phones and accessories, marking the company’s entry in the e-commerce space. For the year 2016-17, Vivo India posted a loss of Rs. 111.66 crore while its sales grew six-fold to Rs. 6,173 crore. On the other hand, Oppo’s sales also surged seven-fold to Rs. 7,974 crore.

Vivo V9 Launching in India on March 27 with New 24MP Selfie Camera, iPhone X Design

Vivo has recently confirmed that it will be holding a launch event in China on March 19 to unveil the Vivo X21 smartphone. The Chinese manufacturer has also confirmed that it will be also launching the Vivo V9 smartphone later in this month. However, the Vivo V9 won’t be unveiled in China first. The teaser released by the company confirms that the Vivo V9 will be unveiled in India on March 27.

The above image shows that the Vivo V9 will be sporting a notch design like the iPhone X. Even though many manufacturers are working on phones that are inspired by the design of the iPhone X, Vivo V9 will be the first phone to launch in India with such a design.

The image shows that the Vivo V9 has a smaller notch than the iPhone X. This could be because V9’s notch does not feature the complex True Depth Camera and Face ID sensors that are present inside the notch of the iPhone X. The Vivo V9’s notch features a selfie camera, an earpiece and other sensors.

The Vivo V9 phone will be arriving as a successor for the Vivo V7 series that was recently discontinued in India. The two major highlights of the Vivo V7 were that it featured a 24-megapixel selfie camera and an 18:9 aspect ratio display.

The above teaser also confirms that Vivo V9 will be a worthy upgrade for the Vivo V7 handset as it will be equipped with a newer 24-megapixel camera and a higher screen-to-body ratio display.

Several leaked photos of the Vivo V9 have surfaced from in China in the recent weeks. However, there is no confirmation on when the smartphone will be made official in China. Following are some of the leaked shots of the Vivo V9.

The leaked images of the phone suggest the handset will be equipped with dual rear cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. As of this writing, there is no information available on the other specs of the phone.

The Vivo V7 and V7+ were released in India with respective pricing of Rs. 18,990 (~$292) and Rs. 21,990 (~$338). It is speculated that the Vivo V9 will be arriving in India with a higher price tag of Rs. 25,000 (~$385).

Lenovo S5 to Launch as Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Killer

Earlier this week, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng, the former CEO of ZUK Mobile had confirmed that the Lenovo S5 will be unveiled on March 20 in China. Today, he has claimed on Weibo that the performance of the Lenovo S5 will be better than the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.

Earlier today, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had released a new teaser for the forthcoming Redmi Note 5 on Weibo. The teaser revealed that the handset has a powerful configuration as it features Snapdragon 636 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. Through the Weibo post, Jun claimed that Note 5 that will deliver a comprehensive experience through its balanced configuration.

Soon after Jun confirmed on the chipset and RAM information for Note 5 on Weibo, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng quoted Jun’s Weibo post and expressed that the Lenovo S5 arriving on March 20 will deliver better performance than the Redmi Note 5.

Last year, Lenovo had shut down it ZUK Mobile sub-brand shortly after it took over Motorola to launch Moto branded phones. Since the Moto phones are not very famous in the home market, Lenovo is reportedly planning to re-enter the smartphone market with Lenovo branded phones. The upcoming Lenovo S5 that will be arriving on March 20 is expected to sport ZUI Android skin that was seen ZUK branded phones.

The Lenovo K520 includes a 5.65-inch display that supports FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The handset is fueled by an octa-core processor that clocks at 2 GHz.

The SoC is supported by 3 GB and 4 GB of RAM that respectively features 32 GB and 64 GB of internal storage. It will come loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo. It has a selfie camera of 8-megapixel and one of its dual camera sensors is also of 8-megapixel. The smartphone will be powered by 3,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi has recently confirmed that it will be debuting the Redmi Note 5 smartphone in China. Today, Xiaomi CEO Lei June has released a new teaser for the upcoming Redmi Note 5 on his Weibo account. It reveals that the Snapdragon 636 chipset and 6 GB of RAM will be powering the handset.

In February, Xiaomi had launched the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India. The Redmi Note 5 was the very same handset that was launched as Redmi 5 Plus in China in December 2017. The Redmi Note 5 Pro that India received was an entirely new handset. It is the first smartphone ever to feature the Snapdragon 636 chipset.

The new teaser released by Jun suggests that Redmi Note 5 Pro will be launching as Redmi Note 5 in China in the coming week. Hence, the Note 5 is expected to borrow all the specs from Note 5 Pro.

The Redmi Note 5 is pegged to house a 5.99-inch display. It will be supporting Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It will be delivering an aspect ratio of 18:9. Huawei P20 Porsche Design May Launch with Under Display Fingerprint Sensor, Triple Leica Lens

Huawei P20 series that will be launching on March 27 includes P20 and P20 Pro flagship phones and P20 Lite mid-range smartphone. Today, a leakster from China has revealed that Huawei is also preparing to launch a premium flagship called Huawei P20 Porsche Design. Leaked shots of the phone reveals that it will be arriving with a different arranged triple cameras and under-display fingerprint scanner.

Shown above is an image of the Huawei P20 Pro flagship. Its triple camera system is arranged vertically. Around a week ago, a hands-on video of a very sleeking Huawei P20 model was spotted. At that time, it was speculated that it could be the P20 Pro handset.

Fresh information reveals that it could be a customized edition of P20 Pro flagship that may arrive in the market as P20 Porsche Design. As it can be seen in the images below, its triple lens is arranged horizontally. As it can be seen in the below images, an LED flash is positioned between dual cameras and the third camera. It is speculated that the triple lens setup features a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens and a standard lens. The Leica branding can be seen at the top-right corner.

The official renders of the P20, P20 Pro and P20 Lite smartphones that were recently leaked by popular tipster Evan Blass had revealed that allow of them are equipped with notch design like the iPhone X. The P20 Porsche Design has a very sleek design and it is difficult to make out whether it features a notch. Probably, it does not feature a notch and it has an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The front and rear sides of the P20 Porsche Design is made out of glass and it features a metallic frame in between. There is no fingerprint scanner on the front or back panel of the phone. This suggests that the handset may come with an under-display fingerprint reader.

The premium P20 Porsche Design is expected to arrive in China with a whopping price tag of 10,000 Yuan (~1,576). It is expected to sell exclusively in China at the beginning. Later, it is may arrive in international markets.

After rolling out Android Oreo updates, HMD Global has now started releasing a new update for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 in some markets which brings the latest March Android security patch.

According to the user report, the update is around 132MB in size and is being rolled out in batches. Interestingly, the update comes just a couple of days after Google started the rollout of the latest Android security patch for eligible Pixel and Nexus devices.

This new update brings a fix for a critical security vulnerability in Media framework that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process.

The company has not provided any specific features in the update apart from the March Android security patch. Once the update is available for your device, you’ll be prompted to download this update. However, you can also check by going to Settings and searching system updates and then by checking for the update.

This just goes on showing how consistent HMD Global is when it comes to releasing software updates. The company has been quick in seeding update to its phones, be it monthly patches or the Android update. Both the phones — Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 were launched with Android Nougat out-of-the-box and received Android Oreo update in January.

Recently, HMD Global started rolling out Android Oreo beta for its Nokia 3 while the company rolled out the public update with Android Oreo for the Nokia 8.

Xiaomi Crowdfunds Wireless Hair Straightener That’s Also A USB Powerbank

Xiaomi has announced a new crowdfunding product and this time around it is a wireless hair straightener that also doubles as a power bank. The gadget is the 157th product that is launched under the MIJIA crowdfunding platform, now YouPin, and it is priced at just 99 Yuan (~$15). The Moonlight wireless mini splint is actually manufactured by one of Xiaomi’s partners known as Ningbo Yue Li Electric Co., Ltd.

Just recently, Xiaomi’s Mi Powerbank was spotted at the New York fashion show in the hands of several top models. This product seems to be targeted at fashionistas and will serve the female folks more. so, what better day to release it than the World women day?

The hair straightener is a very popular gadget in the women circle but most of them usually need a source of power supply in order for it to function. But this model comes entirely wireless making it ideal for use while on the road. The hair straightener features a minimalistic design similar to the conventional model. But it measures just 23 x 35 x 193mm and weighs 164g, making it very easy to carry. The outer body casing sports a matte design which makes it non-slippery. The casing is also scratch resistant and can resist high temperatures.

The main heating surface is covered with a nano-anion coating and is powered by a 2,500mAh battery with a built-in smart power-off system. If the device is switch on and left unused for up to 15 minutes, it automatically shuts down. The battery can withstand up to 30 minutes of continuous usage.The wireless hair straightener also comes with two heating temperature levels; a low-temperature level of 160 ℃ and a high-temperature stall of 200 ℃. There are LED indicators to show when it is powered on and when the battery is almost drained completely.

Another interesting feature of the mini wireless hair straightener is that it can be used as a mobile power bank to charge other devices when it is not in use. However, considering the smallish 2,500mAh battery, this feature may just be for emergency use when there is absolutely no alternative charging source.

The Xiaomi Moonlight wireless mini splint is presently available for crowdfunding for just 99 Yuan ($15) at Xiaomi’s Youpin platform. The gadget will start shipping on April 5.

Xiaomi Berlin With Snapdragon 632 Seen on Geekbench

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 was rumored to launch with an unannounced Snapdragon 632 processor but instead it launched with a Snapdragon 625. Even the Pro version is powered by the Snapdragon 636. However, a recently seen Geekbench listing of a device called the Xiaomi Berlin reveals it is powered by the Snapdragon 632.

The Xiaomi Berlin was benchmarked in February. It runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat and has 3GB of RAM. The processor is listed as the sdm632 with six cores and a base frequency of 1.02GHz.

The device scored 1155 in the single-core test and 2738 points in the multi-core test. The single-core score is much higher than that of devices powered by the Snapdragon 630 (e.g. HTC U11 Life) but the multi-core score is significantly less.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 China Edition Will Support AI Smart Beauty Feature

Xiaomi took the wraps off the much-anticipated Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro on February 14 in India. The Redmi Note 5 Pro commanded more attention as a result of its design and dual cameras which is the first for the Redmi Note series. The Note 5 Pro is expected to be announced in China as the Redmi Note 5 China version and Xiaomi has already hinted at a March 16 launch date. Not much is known about the Cina version but Xiaomi has been easing some of its features. The first detail that was teased is that it will come with a surprise on its camera aspect.

Now Xiaomi has revealed that the Redmi Note 5 China version will have an artificial intelligent (AI) smart beauty camera. This disclosure was made by Xiaomi’spresident Lin Bin via his Weibo page. The Xiaomi exec did not elaborate but we believe that is the surprise he had earlier hinted will be on the China version of the Redmi Note 5.

Redmi Note 5 Pro Face Unlock — Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro AI-based Face Unlock feature

Xiaomi touts the Redmi Note 5 Pro which is expected to launch as the Redmi Note 5 in China India’s camera beast. The device features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and an individual pixel size of 1.25μm. It comes with features like fast autofocus and PDAF.

At the front, the Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 20MP Sony IMX376 camera sensor that is equipped with front LED flash and Beautify 4.0 for capturing for AI-driven beautified photos based on the skin tone of the subject. Xiaomi has optimized the selfie snapper to shoot impressive images in dim-light conditions. We don’t know what other feature Xiaomi would throw in the mix on this China version but the AI feature may likely be on the selfie camera and would offer features such as face recognition as well as recognition of various scenes. Already, the Redmi Note 5 Pro was announced to also have an AI-based Face Unlock feature which would be added at the end of March. So, this could just be it. We really don’t expect something very spectacular from what we had been announced in India but then, you never can tell the surprise Xiaomi is going to spring up.

Meizu E3 Press Invites Leaked: Launches On March 21 In Beijing

Press invites for the Meizu E3 launch have just leaked: they highlight the date and the place of the event in which the new handset will be unveiled, as well as some key features. Besides the E3 moniker, the invite contains an image which shows a transition from a 1937 airplane to a 2018 airplane. It symbolizes the technologic progress made in the last years by the company and it makes us think that this phone will have something innovative. The invites hint at a full metal unibody design, and we already expected an aluminum design given that this device should be a mid-ranger.

Right after Sony switched to rear-mounted fingerprint reader on its latest line-up Xperia XA2 and XZ2, Meizu E3 should sport a side-mounted fingerprint reader instead, and its back cover should house a dual camera setup. As shown on the invites, the launch event will be held on March 21 at National Centre for the Performing Arts, in Beijing. It will be possible to sign in from 13:30 to 14:30 local time, while from 14:30 to 15:30 the company will officially announce the Meizu E3. From 15:30 until 16:30 it will be possible to try the new device.

According to previous rumors, Meizu may decide to release this phone in two different variants identified by the names Meizu E3 G and E3 P. The former could be a version dedicated to gaming, with a special Game Mode 2.0 in the software to enhance performance while playing games. If so, we expect to see a high-end SoC on this handset, but we still have no info on its chips. The second variant of the device is tipped to be dedicated to photography, as the P suggests. Indeed, according to the Senior Vice President Li Nan, Meizu E3 will be able to shoot better photos than the M6 Note.

Alleged Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Spotted in Real Skin with Repositioned Selfie Camera, In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

Huawei will be launching the P20 and P20 Pro flagships on March 27. Well-known tipster Evan Blass has already shared high-resolution renders of the P20 family well before their official announcement. On the same day, Xiaomi will be also launching the Mi MIX 2S flagship phone. The design of the phone seems to be one of the best kept secrets so far because of the none of leaked photos that have surfaced so far seems to have revealed the actual device. Fresh images showing the alleged Mi MIX 2S in real skin have appeared on Weibo.

The new images show that the screen of the Mi MIX 2S is surrounded super-slim bezels. The bottom bezel on the Mi MIX and Mi MIX 2 smartphones are a bit thick as they are fitted with a selfie camera. The leaked images of the phone reveal that its chin is slightly thicker than other bezels, but not as thick as its predecessor phones.

The leakster claims that he is shocked to know how the engineers were able to fit a camera module into such a small chin. Hence, he claims that the Mi MIX 2S will be offering a highest screen-to-body ratio compared to other full screen design phones.

A horizontally arranged dual camera setup along with its dual-tone LED flash can be found at the top-left corner of the rear panel. The fingerprint scanner is missing from the front and rear sides of the phone. This suggests that the Mi MIX 2S could be the first Xiaomi phone to feature under-display fingerprint scanner. A leaked photo that had surfaced last week had also suggest that it will be featuring an in-screen fingerprint reader.

Shown above is an image that was allegedly snapped using the Mi MIX 2S. It also contains the watermark that reads “Shot on MI MIX 2S AI Dual Camera.” XDA Developers had recently revealed through the firmware files of the Mi MIX 2S that the images shot using it will carry the same watermark. Through the firmware files, it has been known that the Mi MIX 2S will be coming with an 18:9 aspect ratio supporting display that will produce FHD+ resolution. Some reports have claimed that it will be coming with a 6.01-inch OLED display. The Mi MIX 2S is also expected to arrive as the first phone from the company with support for wireless charging. It will be driven by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. Other rumored features that have been unearthed through the firmware files of the handset include Sony IMX363 sensor, Android 8.0 Oreo OS and 3,400mAh battery
