Huawei’s liquid-cooled EV supercharger proves resilient in desert trials

Huawei recently shared the results of extreme temperature testing for its liquid-cooled supercharging technology in China’s Turpan region, known for its intense heat. The tests took place in the scorching Kumtag Desert and Huoyan Mountain, where ambient temperatures reached 49.6°C (121.28°F) and surface temperatures soared above 80°C (176°F).

Despite these harsh conditions, Huawei’s supercharging technology performed remarkably well. The system kept noise levels to 44.1 dB in standby mode and 59.5 dB while charging, even at ambient temperatures of 47.1°C (116.78°F). This suggests the technology is quiet enough to avoid being disruptive in real-world scenarios.

The key to the system’s performance is its advanced liquid cooling technology, which effectively dissipates heat generated during charging, preventing overheating and potential malfunction. Huawei also highlights its “precise temperature control algorithms,” which are crucial for maintaining system stability and charging efficiency.

Huawei conducted additional tests on 414 vehicles, delivering a total of 13,391 kWh of energy. These tests had a nearly perfect success rate, with almost every vehicle fully charged in a single attempt.

As the electric vehicle market grows rapidly, fast and efficient charging solutions like Huawei’s are essential for wider adoption. The EV charging infrastructure is expected to see significant investment, with over $12 billion projected for the US market alone by 2030. Huawei’s technology could play a key role in this development.

However, it’s important to remember that this technology is still in its early stages. Details about real-world deployment, specific charging speeds, and compatibility with various electric vehicle models are yet to be clarified.

While these tests offer a promising outlook for the future of EV charging, more information is needed before making a final judgment on Huawei’s supercharging solution.

Another Chinese phone maker is entering EV market later this year

While Apple may have opted out of the electric vehicle (EV) race, China’s tech scene continues to see a growing trend of smartphone giants entering the automotive market.

Following Huawei‘s integration of its services into cars like the HIMA model and Xiaomi’s recent foray into car production, Meizu, now under the wing of Geely, is set to unveil its first car later this year.

The announcement came from Meizu COO Liao Qinghong at the ChinaJoy 2024 exhibition. Qinghong emphasized that the car would have a different functional performance from that of traditional car manufacturers.

The upcoming Meizu DreamCar MX will be manufactured by Geely and will reportedly be based on the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform. Early images show a sedan design similar in size to the Lynk & Co Z10.

One of Meizu’s key differentiators is a strong focus on user involvement. In January, the company launched the DreamCar MX community – an interactive platform allowing fans to participate in design discussions and personalization options. This includes co-creating color schemes, Flyme Auto themes, and potentially influencing other aspects of the car.

However, the success of Meizu’s automotive venture is uncertain. Both Meizu and Xiaomi lack established experience in car manufacturing compared to traditional automakers.

The Chinese EV market is highly competitive, with established players like BYD and Tesla holding significant market shares. Meizu’s success will depend on how well it can differentiate the DreamCar MX through its user-centric approach and leverage Geely’s production capabilities.

Only time will tell if Meizu can carve out a niche in the crowded EV landscape. As the launch date approaches, we can expect to see more information about the Meizu DreamCar MX.

Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Spec Sheet Leaks Ahead of Launch

Nothing is gearing up to launch the Phone (2a) Plus smartphone globally on July 31st. As confirmed officially, it will pack the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 SoC and will be paired with up to 12GB of RAM. Now a new leak has shed light on the remaining specifications of Nothing’s upcoming mid-range phone.

Disappointingly for those expecting a larger screen in the Plus variant, it is said to feature the same 6.7-inch AMOLED display as the standard Phone (2a). The color options are also familiar, with grey and black finishes, though the leak suggests a slightly different finish compared to its predecessor.

The “Plus” in the moniker seems to come in the form of a few key upgrades. The first is the processor, with the Phone (2a) Plus using the Dimensity 7350, an upgrade from the Dimensity 7200 Pro found in the Phone (2a).

Another notable upgrade is the selfie camera, which has been upgraded from a 32MP sensor in the standard model to a 50MP sensor in the Plus version. Additionally, the Phone (2a) Plus is expected to offer faster charging, improving from 45W in the standard model to 50W.

However, based on the current leak, these changes are the only differentiating factors between the two models. With a nearly identical design, display, and rear camera setup, buyers may need to consider the value proposition and their specific priorities when deciding between the Phone (2a) Plus and the Phone (2a).

The leak also mentions the expected storage options, with the Phone (2a) Plus likely to be available in two configurations: one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and another with 12GB of RAM and the same 256GB of storage. Pricing details are still under wraps.

With the launch date fast approaching, it won’t be long before we have official confirmation of these specifications.

Both the models have a 12.7-inch 2.9K display with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, P3 color gamut, and Dolby Vision support. Apart from these distinctions, both versions share similar features. Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 price leaks for the US, UK and Europe

Yet another leak has surfaced regarding the upcoming Pixel Buds Pro 2, and this time, it sheds light on the price of Google‘s next flagship earbuds.

The leak comes from the publication Dealabs (via reliable tech insider @billbil_kun) which revealed that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be priced at £219 in the UK, $229 in the US, and €249 in the Eurozone. Interestingly, the European price for the Buds Pro 2 matches the launch price of the original Pixel Buds Pro, but it is a $30 increase for the US market.

We’ve also gotten a good look at the Pixel Buds Pro 2 design through previous leaks. But there don’t seem to be many upgrades — the earbuds maintain a familiar silhouette and have minimal aesthetic changes.

The case also retains the recognizable egg-shaped form. However, there’s a new cutout near the bottom’s USB-C port. It could accommodate a wrist strap for easier carrying or a speaker for Google’s Find My Device network to locate misplaced earbuds easily.

The earbuds might also see a change in the grille design which is slightly bigger than its predecessor. And unlike the previous model, where the grille has a black paint job regardless of the color variant, the Buds Pro 2 will feature a grille that matches the color of the earbuds.

As for other specs, a certification listing from April 2024 suggests that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 case might feature a 650mAh battery, a 30mAh increase compared to its predecessor.

With a nearly two-year gap between the original Pixel Buds Pro and its successor, it’s reasonable to expect improvements in terms of audio quality and noise cancellation capabilities. More details regarding features and specifications are likely to emerge closer to the official launch date.

Vivo X200 series to feature in-house Blueprint sensor, algorithm, and chip, company confirms

Vivo yesterday outlined its next steps in smartphone imaging technology at its annual imaging festival in Qinghai. The company announced that its next-generation flagships will be the first to feature the the new Blueprint image sensor, developed in-house.

The sensor utilizes their self-developed VCS 3.0 technology and is manufactured on a 22nm process. Notably, the Blueprint sensor is also the industry’s first to support “True-TCG HDR” technology, which Vivo says will deliver improved HDR previews and video recording.

Vivo has paired the sensor with a new generation of the Blueprint Algorithm Matrix, specifically designed to optimize telephoto performance. The algorithm, which has over 1 billion parameters, is the largest visual generation model to be event implemented in a Vivo smartphone.

Apart from this, the company teased an upcoming “Blueprint Imaging Chip,” slated for release next year. The chip is said to refine AI portrait algorithms to improve low-light and backlight portrait photography.

At the event, Vivo announced that these new imaging technologies would be incorporated into its upcoming flagship smartphones. While the company did not officially disclose the model names, it is likely that they will be part of the Vivo X200 series.

In addition to these hardware and software advancements, Vivo announced that its popular humanistic camera mode, currently exclusive to the X100 Ultra, will soon be available on other phones

The first to receive this feature will be the Vivo X100 Pro by the end of August, followed by the standard X100 in early September. Samsung’s Exynos 1580 Chip Benchmarked: Performance Comparable to Snapdragon 888

Samsung‘s upcoming Exynos 1580 chip, likely destined for the Galaxy A56 smartphone, has made its debut on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. The chip, codenamed Santa, achieved a single-core score of 1046 points and a multi-core score of 3678 points on Geekbench 5.

The chip depicted an improvement

These results place the Exynos 1580 in a performance tier comparable to the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100. While representing a significant improvement of 17% and 9% respectively over its predecessor, the Exynos 1480, the Exynos 1580 still falls short of the latest flagship chipsets.

Redmi 14C India launch imminent, appears on BIS certification

Following the December 2023 launch of the Redmi 13C 5G, Xiaomi appears to be prepping its successor, the Redmi 14C 5G. Now, MySmartPrice has spotted the phone’s model numbers, 24108PCE21 and 2411DRN47I, on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website.

The listing itself offers no concrete details about the phone’s specifications. However, it does raise an interesting possibility. The listing also includes the “POCO” brand name alongside Redmi.

So the Redmi 14C 5G might be rebranded as a POCO device in some markets, mirroring Xiaomi’s usual strategy of offering similar phones under different sub-brands.

This isn’t the first time the Redmi 14C 5G has piqued our curiosity. The phone has already been spotted in the IMEI database listings with four distinct model numbers: “2411DRN47G,” “2411DRN47R,” “2411DRN47I,” and “2411DRN47C.”

The suffixes likely denote regional variations, with “G” possibly signifying a global model, “R” for Japan, “I” for India, and “C” for China. These listings hint at a widespread launch strategy for the Redmi 14C 5G.

Despite the mounting evidence, Xiaomi remains tight-lipped about the upcoming budget phone. While the BIS certification suggests an imminent launch, particularly in India, no official details regarding specifications, pricing, or release date have been revealed.

However,  given the increased activity surrounding the phone, it’s reasonable to expect more information to emerge in the coming days. For budget-conscious smartphone buyers looking for a 5G option, the Redmi 14C 5G is shaping up to be a potential contender.  We’ll continue to monitor the situation and update you on it as new details become available.
