The HarmonyOS 4.2 update brings several noticeable improvements. It makes the tablet’s gestures and animations smoother, which should make using the device feel more fluid. The update also introduces a feature that changes the background look of the control menu as you use it, adding a nice touch to the visual experience.

On the security front, Huawei has added a way to block ads in apps with a simple shake of the device, and better protection against harmful software.

Apple‘s upcoming “Let Loose” event on May 7th is expected to launch the latest iPad Pro lineup. While the company remains tight-lipped on the details, leaks so far suggest significant upgrades for the new iPads including OLED displays, MagSafe charging support, and a performance boost with M3 chip.

Nokia 225 4G (2024) feature phone with design & hardware upgrades, along with a USB Type-C port revealed

HMD Global, which presently holds the license over Nokia smartphones is apparently preparing to refresh its Nokia 225 4G feature phone. The brand launched the first Nokia 225 4G model back in December 2020. Now, Android Headlines, in collaboration with tipster OnLeaks, has revealed what the upcoming model looks like.

Compared to the 2020 model, the newer phone will adopt a more boxy design, which is the current trend in the smartphone market. Apart from its boxy look, the device will also have a minimalist design on the back featuring a single camera, an LED flash, and Nokia and HMD branding.

On the front, the device is said to feature a 2.4-inch display with thick bezels and a standard feature phone keypad. perhaps the most notable change in this model is that it features a USB Type-C port for charging.

The phone comes with 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of storage, which is pretty standard for feature phones and likely includes a slot for adding more storage. It’s equipped with a 1,450 mAh battery, which is better than the one in its 2020 version, potentially lasting several days on a single charge.

The camera on the back might be bumped up to 3 MP from the earlier 0.8 MP, which is a decent improvement for a phone like this. As for software, the phone will operate on the Nokia Series 30+ operating system, which means that it won’t be able to run modern apps. However, this could be a plus point for people who are looking for a phone that isn’t a distraction.

The report also mentions that the Nokia 225 4G 2024 model could be priced around €100 in Europe.

Nokia 3210 is returning in 2024 after original 1999 release

HMD Global recently held a launch event in Kenya, where they introduced new devices like the HMD Pulse smartphone and the Nokia 225 4G. It seems they’re gearing up to release another Nokia smartphone, which has been leaked in a launch poster.

The phone in question is the Nokia 3210 (2024). Yes, HMD seems to be bringing back the iconic Nokia 3210 that was a hit in the late 1990s; but this time with modern upgrades, 25 years later.

The leaked poster shows the phone in a cool blue color. While its body shape resembles the Nokia 6310, the phone’s exact dimensions are still unclear.

Nokia 3210 (2024) Launch Leak

However, HMD deserves credit for staying true to the classic design elements. The revamped Nokia 3210 (2024) maintains the essence of the original model, which can be seen in details like the familiar button layout. But the back of the phone has a more modern look.

The iconic Nokia logo is still in its rightful place, but you now get a rear camera that wasn’t there on the original model. But this seems like a necessary addition for a phone of 2024, even if it clashes slightly with the classic aesthetic of the original 3210.

There’s also an HMD logo on the bottom. While some Nokia fans may not like it, it is understandable as HMD might be looking for some brand recognition.

The promotional image also hints at features like long battery life, Bluetooth, and 4G connectivity for the Nokia 3210 (2024). However, other details are still under wraps.

Nokia 3210 (2024) is expected to launch sometime in May. What’s your take on the Nokia 3210 (2024) design? You can share your thoughts in our social media handles.

Huawei inches closer to 100% domestic smartphone production

Huawei‘s new flagship, the Pura 70 series, boasts a remarkable achievement: over 90% of its components are sourced from Chinese companies, except for the highest-end model’s main camera. This signifies a significant leap towards complete domestication in Huawei’s smartphone manufacturing.

HUAWEI-Pura-70-Ultra-Retractable-Camera

Chinese Smartphone Manufacturing Nears Self-Sufficiency with Huawei Pura 70

Teardown analyses by Japanese research firm Fomalhaut Techno Solutions reveal that Chinese suppliers like OFilm, Lens Technology, Goertek, Csun, Sunny Optical, BOE, and Crystal-Optech are now providing the core components for most Pura 70 models, including processors, displays, chassis, batteries, and more.

Only the most advanced processor (Kirin 9010) and the main camera in the top-tier Pura 70 Ultra remain reliant on foreign technology due to limitations in wafer fabrication. With advancements in chip fabrication and camera technology, this goal is likely to be reached in the near future.

Honor and Huawei have achieved remarkable popularity in their home market of China, securing the top spot in smartphone market share according to IDC’s Q1 2024 report. The immense popularity of the Pura 70 series has led to a surge in demand, causing stock shortages in major channels and price increases on the secondary market.

Industry estimates predict strong performance for Huawei this year, with potential smartphone shipments reaching 50 million units. The Pura 70 model is believed to be a significant driver of this success, with sales exceeding tens of millions alone.

The Pura 70 series signifies a significant step towards complete domestic manufacturing for Huawei. The phones showcase the growing capability of Chinese companies to supply crucial smartphone components, relying on a limited number of high-end imports.

This trend suggests a potential future where the entire smartphone manufacturing process within China becomes fully nationalized, potentially impacting the global smartphone supply chain and reshaping the industry landscape.

Xiaomi launches Mijia Table Lamp 2 / Lamp 2 Lite with HyperOS connectivity starting at just $11

Xiaomi has introduced two new table lamps in China: the Mijia Table Lamp 2 and the Mijia Table Lamp 2 Lite. These lamps are designed to deliver comfort while you study or work, and they come at an affordable price. So let’s walk through the specs, features, and price of both the Mijia Table Lamp 2 and the Lamp 2 Lite.

Mijia Table Lamp 2

The Mijia Table Lamp 2 has a 60cm long head with 112 LED beads fitted into it. It has secured a “reading and writing AA-level photometric rating” and a “learning lamp AAAA-level certification” from CQC. That is, the lamp can distribute light evenly with a brightness that minimizes glare and eye strain.

It has also been rated for a high Ra97 color rendering index, meaning the colors will appear as they should under the light. Measured between 1 to 100, the higher the color rendering index is the natural colors will be rendered under an artificial light source when compared with sunlight.

Xiaomi Mijia Table Lamp 2 can also connect with Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem powered by HyperOS. It allows you to control the lamp via voice commands or through other devices in your smart home network.

Not to forget, the lamp has an adjustable shaft that allows you to tilt it backward and forward, each up to 25°. Additionally, it has gone through rigorous testing to ensure the shaft endures over 10,000 adjustments.

The Mijia Table Lamp 2 costs 199 yuan (~$28) in China and is available to purchase via JD.com

Mijia Table Lamp 2 Lite

As the name suggests, the Mijia Table Lamp 2 Lite is a more affordable option of the two. It is priced at just 79 yuan (~ $11) and still has a bunch of impressive specifications on paper.

The lamp has the same CQC AA photometric rating for delivering light uniformity within a central 30×50cm area. And it also has a Ra90 color rendering index, which still falls in the area where the lamp can render colors fairly well.

Xiaomi Mijia LED Lamp 2 Lite Specs Price

Moreover, the lamp has a custom-made optical lens with 53% transmittance that reduces eye irritation when looking directly at the light source.

Regarding adjustability, the Lamp 2 Lite offers three-axis linkage for the lamp head, pole, and base, allowing for multi-angle positioning to suit your needs.

Safety is another focus Xiaomi has worked on. The lamp can achieve an RG0 exemption level for blue light hazards. This means it emits minimal blue light, a wavelength known to contribute to eye strain and sleep disruption. Additionally, the light is flicker-free to reduce eye fatigue.

Apple removes apps from the App Store that can generate nudes using generative AI

Just days after news broke about a problematic AI feature removing clothes in Huawei phones, similar news has surfaced regarding Apple (via 404 Media).

The company has reportedly removed three apps from the App Store that are advertised as “art generators” but were promoting themselves on Instagram and adult sites claiming that they can “undress any girl for free.”

These apps exploited AI to create fake nude images of clothed individuals. While the images don’t depict actual nudity, the app can generate images that can be used for harassment, blackmail, and invasion of privacy.

AI Nude Apps Apple

What’s concerning is that Apple’s response came after 404 Media shared links to the apps and their ads.

Surprisingly, these apps have been available on the App Store since 2022, advertising the “undress” feature on adult sites.

The report also suggests these apps were initially allowed to stay on the App Store if they removed ads from the adult site.

However, one of the apps ran ads until 2024, when Google pulled it off from the Play Store.

Apple removes App using generative AI for nudes

Apple has now finally decided to remove them from the App Store. It’s slightly concerning though, to see the the reactive nature of app store moderation and the potential for developers to exploit loopholes.

This incident comes at a sensitive time for Apple. WWDC 2024 is just around the corner and the company is expected to make major AI announcements for iOS 18 and Siri.

Apple has been actively building a reputation for responsible AI development, even going as far as to ethically license training data.

In contrast, Google and OpenAI face lawsuits for allegedly using copyrighted content to train their AI systems. Apple’s delayed removal of the NCI apps could potentially tarnish its carefully cultivated image.

Garnering a total score of 2,305,267 on AnTuTu, the upcoming X100s showcase noteworthy prowess across test categories. It achieved a CPU test score of 538,809, a GPU score of 940,944, a memory test score of 472,337, and a UX test score of 353,177.

According to reports, the Dimensity 9300 Plus is an overclocked variant of the Dimensity 9300. A previously seen Geekbench listing revealed enhanced performance with its boosted prime core clocked at 3.4GHz, 3 x Cortex-X4 operating at 2.85GHz, 3 x Cortex-A720 cores working at 2.0GHz, and the Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU.

Aside from featuring a new chipset, the Vivo X100s is expected to pack the same internals as the Vivo X100. While retaining many of the X100’s specs, it is said to adopt a flat screen, eschewing the curved-edge display seen on the previous model. It is likely to come in color options, such as white, black, cyan, and titanium.

The Vivo X100s, along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Vivo X100 Ultra, are expected to break cover in May in China. MediaTek is poised to unveil the Dimensity 9300 Plus on May 7 in China. This suggests that the official launch of the X100s and X100 Ultra is expected to occur by mid- to late-May. Some reports claim that the Ultra variant may have the Vivo X100s Ultra branding.
