<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus </a>has just officially confirmed that its next gen flagship smartphone, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-11/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OnePlus 11</a>, will arrive with support for 4 years of major Android updates. This makes the device the first ever handset from the company get this extended software support. So here are all the details.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">We&#39;re adding another dimension to Fast and Smooth. The <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/OnePlus11?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#OnePlus11</a> is our first flagship supporting 4 years of Android versions and 5 years of security updates.<br><br>Fast, smooth and truly built to last. <a href="https://t.co/f9DDdVcpZN">pic.twitter.com/f9DDdVcpZN</a></p>&mdash; Pete Lau (@PeteLau) <a href="https://twitter.com/PeteLau/status/1621318287949963264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 3, 2023</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>For those unaware, the Chinese smartphone maker is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated OnePlus 11 phone on February 7, which will run on Android 13 OS based ColorOS 13/OxyegenOS 13 custom skin out of the box. But earlier today (3rd February 2023), the brand&#8217;s CEO Pete Lau has revealed that the OnePlus 11 5G model will get the highest number of software updates that it has ever offered on any smartphone. </p>

<p>The latest premium grade handset will come with four major Android updates. In other words, we can expect OnePlus 11 users to get the Android 14, Android 15, Android 15, and even the Android 17 OS update in the next few years. Furthermore, the phone will also come with five years of security patches as well. This means that OnePlus is now also offering longer software support for its devices, joining the ranks of other brands that offer similar experiences on their flagship phones like Samsung.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus" class="wp-image-513187" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/OnePlus-11-5G-1_63d39852519d0.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Similarly, even Apple offers such a long update cycle as well. Although, Google still falls behind Samsung with just 3 years of Android updates. It is unclear if this extended software support would also include any other handsets, or if it is only restricted to its flagship grade models. </p>

<p>Besides releasing new versions of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android</a> and rolling out monthly security patches, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google</a> also pushes out Play system updates on a regular basis. These updates are unique in that they are distributed directly by Google to all compatible Android devices, including non-Pixel phones, in order to improve the performance and security of the Android operating system. Lastly, some Samsung Galaxy S22 and S21 series owners have reported that their phones have been stuck on the July 2022 update. Here are the details…</p>

<h3><strong>How to fix Samsung Galaxy phones stuck on July 2022 Play system update</strong></h3>

<p>Some <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Galaxy phone</a> users are experiencing an issue where their devices are stuck on the July 2022 Google Play system update. This issue appears to have started after the rollout of the Android 13-based One UI 5 update, and is affecting not just Samsung&#8217;s flagship phones, but also the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-a52/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy A52</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-1024x576.jpeg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-506517" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/samsung-galaxy-phones-july-2022-play-system-update-error-1.jpeg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Users have reported the problem on Samsung&#8217;s support forums and Reddit. Saying that despite manually checking for updates, their phones remain stuck. In some cases, users are given the option to restart and install a new build. However, after the reboot, the Google Play system update still remains on July 2022. It is not clear if other non-Galaxy <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android phones</a> are experiencing a similar issue.</p>

<p>If your Galaxy phone is stuck on the July 2022 Play system update, you can try manually sideloading the November 2022 build by downloading and installing the latest main components from reliable APK websites. After a reboot, your phone should be running the November 2022 Google Play system update. Keep in mind that the build with S+ in its name is meant for Android 12 and newer versions of the OS, so be sure to download the correct version.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung </a>was one of the first brands to launch a foldable smartphone model in the market. Just three years ago, the first ever <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-fold-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy Fold </a>was announced, and now, it seems that the device has reached the end of its life in terms of Android updates.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="488" height="340" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Fold-5G-e1589331414410-488x340-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung" class="wp-image-492601" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Fold-5G-e1589331414410-488x340-1.jpg 488w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Fold-5G-e1589331414410-488x340-1-300x209.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Fold-5G-e1589331414410-488x340-1-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px" /></figure></div>

<p>For those unaware, the Galaxy Fold faced many delays before its eventual release and launched with Android 9 Pie out of the box back in 2019. But since then, the South Korean tech giant has offered various updates and the company&#8217;s first foldable device now runs on Android 12 OS. But it seems like this is the end of the road as Samsung will not be offering a major OS update for the Galaxy Fold. This means that the device will not be receiving the Android 13 OS based One UI 5.0 update.</p>

<p>In other words, it also means that this is the only foldable smartphone from the company to not receive any update past Android 12. Samsung typically offers three years of OS updates with another year of security patches. But since the Galaxy Fold has reached the end of its three year update cycle, it will no longer be eligible for major upgrades. Meanwhile, the Glaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phone models from 2021 and 2022 will still be eligible for the Android 14 update next year.</p>

<p>Keep in mind that this doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean the end of all software updates for this device. There is still at least a year left for security updates and patches. With Android 13 just rolling out, Android 12 is by no means outdated, so existing Galaxy Fold users need not worry about their foldable phone getting outdated all of a sudden.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-latest-phones-get-four-years-android-os-upgrades/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>SamMobile</em> </a>report, the South Korean tech giant is planning on offering four major Android OS updates and up to five years of security patches. As of right now, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S21</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-plus-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S21+</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S21 Ultra</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-fe-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S21 FE</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s22/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S22</a> series, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-tab-s8/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy Tab S8</a> series and even the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy Z Flip3</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold3-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy Z Fold3</a> are apparently eligible for this new update policy.</p>
<p>Notably, this also implies that the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 lineup that are expected to ship with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-12/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android 12</a> will officially receive update till Android 16. Apart from the major updates, it will also receive five years of security updates as well. If this information is true, this raises the overall life of a new Galaxy smartphone, which makes it more appealing for prospective buyers since they wouldn&#8217;t need to consider upgrading their handset in just two or three years.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-441579" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009.jpeg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+" width="562" height="562" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009.jpeg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-150x150.jpeg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-300x300.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-768x768.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-1024x1024.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-696x696.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-1068x1068.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/164396897461fcf9ce46009-420x420.jpeg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 562px) 100vw, 562px" /></p>
<p>Interestingly, we had also previously reported on Search Engine giant <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google</a> offering f<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/14/google-pixel-6-extended-software-update-duration/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">our years of Android OS updates and five years of security patches</a> on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 6</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 6 Pro</a>. So, this might be an emerging trend or a new standard that smartphone brands may soon offer.</p>

The company tries to optimize the process and as a part of that, some older models move down to the list of less frequent updates.</p>
<p>Now, <a href="https://security.samsungmobile.com/workScope.smsb">it appears</a> that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is moving down to quarterly <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/update">updates</a> from its current schedule of monthly updates. So, from now onwards, the Galaxy S9 will only get 4 security patches per year, likely moving to the biannual schedule next year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-176417 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/galaxy-s9-dxomark5.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus DXOMark" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/galaxy-s9-dxomark5.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/galaxy-s9-dxomark5-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>This change is applicable to both the models &#8212; Galaxy S9 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s9-plus/">Galaxy S9 Plus</a>. The updates provided are based on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-10">Android 10</a> operating system, which was rolled out to these smartphones in February last year.</p>
<p>The development comes just days after Samsung rolled out April 2021 security patch to the Galaxy S9 Plus smartphone. Interestingly, the update for this model comes before some more recent devices from the company.</p>
<p>Based on the updated schedule, it seems that the next update for the S9 series smartphones will be available in July or August. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S8 series is also on a quarterly update basis and is likely to move to biannual updates by next year.</p>

This largely had most believing that Android devices will now soon be eligible for &#8220;four years&#8221; of Android updates, which is an additional year over what certain manufacturer&#8217;s like Google or Samsung offer with their flagship smartphones. Although, this is not actually what both companies implied with the new announcement.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-346235 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render.jpg?x44794" alt="Google" width="1800" height="1287" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render.jpg 1800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render-300x215.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render-768x549.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render-1024x732.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render-696x498.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render-1068x764.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Google-Pixel-5-Mint-Green-render-587x420.jpg 587w" sizes="(max-width: 1800px) 100vw, 1800px" /></p>
<p>Apparently, the news and the headlines of various reports have been a bit confusing or even misleading to a certain degree, but that is only due to the original announcement from the chipmaker and search engine giant. According to an <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/12/16/google-and-qualcomms-big-update-announcement-isnt-what-it-seems-heres-what-you-need-to-know/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AndroidPolice</em> </a>report, very little is actually changing with this announcement of four year of Android updates. For those unaware, Google and Samsung currently offers about three major OS updates on their popular smartphones.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/17/google-antitrust-lawsuit-usa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google faces yet another antitrust lawsuit in the US, this time for its advertising business</a></strong></h6>
<p>However, today&#8217;s announcement from both companies does not actually add to this figure. Rather, this just makes policy that was already an optional extra for smartphone OEMs who work with Qualcomm. In reality, it does not actually extend the lifespan of Qualcomm&#8217;s top end chips in any manner. This is all really confusing owing to how well Google and Qualcomm announced the entire news, but there are two major points to note:</p>
<ul>
<li>Qualcomm will support <strong>three</strong> major Android OS updates for its entire portfolio of smartphone chips going forward, starting with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 888</a>.</li>
<li>Smartphone OEMs will likely be able to now offer <strong>four</strong> full years of Android <strong>security</strong> updates going forward (based on our reading of the announcement).</li>
</ul>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-360704 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01.png?x44794" alt="Google" width="1600" height="725" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01.png 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01-300x136.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01-768x348.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01-1024x464.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01-696x315.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01-1068x484.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/image-2020-12-16-01-02-01-927x420.png 927w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>These points from the original basically imply that four years of updates is being promised and not four years of Android OS updates. So, don&#8217;t expect four major OS version upgrades anytime soon. Google already offers about 36 months of security patch updates, which will now be extended to 48 months after this announcement. Furthermore, this also only applicable to all Android smartphones that feature Qualcomm&#8217;s latest Snapdragon 888 SoC for now.</p>

Also, an early beta version of the Huawei&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/emui">EMUI</a> 10, which is based on the upcoming Android Q operating system, is now available.</p>
<p>Now, a report suggests a list of Huawei smartphones that will be receiving the new Android Q-based EMUI 10 update. Do note that this list is not officially announced by the Chinese giant but comes through media reports.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-252083 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Android-q-phone.jpg?x44794" alt="Android Q phone" width="750" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Android-q-phone.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Android-q-phone-300x205.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Android-q-phone-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Android-q-phone-696x475.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Android-q-phone-615x420.jpg 615w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>The list of Huawei devices set to receive the Android Q update includes Huawei P30, P30 Pro, P30 Lite, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X 5G, Huawei P Smart 2019, P Smart Plus 2019, P Smart Z, Huawei P20, and P20 Pro.</p>
<p>A report claims that the company has begun internal testing of the EMUI 10 custom user interface with the Huawei P30 Pro. As said, the EMUI 10 UI is based on the upcoming Android version 10, i.e. Android Q.</p>
<p>Nothing much is known about this upcoming EMUI update but the images of the home screen reveal that the company has decided to redesign the standard icons yet again. However, nothing is officially known so far and we&#8217;ll be getting more information about this in the coming weeks.</p>

However, last month, the smartphone was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/31/huawei-mate-20-pro-reinstated-android-q-beta/">reinstated</a> in the beta program.</p>
<p>Google is expected to introduce the final version of Android Q in August. The new OS will be first made available to Google’s Pixel devices and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/07/google-announces-android-q-realme-3-pro-mi-9-among-devices-getting-beta-3/">phones that are enrolled in the beta program such</a> as Asus ZenFone 5z, Essential PH-1, Nokia 8.1, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, LG G8 ThinQ, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-reno/">OPPO Reno</a>, Realme 3 Pro, Redmi K20 Pro, Sony Xperia XZ3, Techno Spark 3 Pro, Vivo X27, Vivo NEX S, Vivo NEX A, Xiaomi Mi 9 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G.</p>

Now, just a few days after their official launch, the company has started rolling out the first-ever update to the devices, although the phones are slated to be available for purchase from 5th February.</p>
<p>However, some of the review units have now started receiving the new update, which brings improvements and bug fixes. The update, which carries firmware version M105FDDU1ASA7 for the Galaxy M10 and firmware version M205FDDU1ASA9 for the Galaxy M20 smartphone, has January security patch but do not bring any remarkable improvement in the overall performance of the smartphones.</p>
<p>While the update is currently being rolled out, it seems that the devices that will be available for purchase from 5th February, the update will be available out-of-the-box. The update for the Galaxy M10 weighs 64.74MB while Galaxy M20&#8217;s update weighs 102MB.</p>

<p>However, it seems that the information provided by the company was incorrect as Huawei has now confirmed that the Android Oreo update for the Huawei P9 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/07/09/huawei-announces-emui-8-based-on-android-8-upgrade-for-7-models/">rolling out</a> in its home market. The phone was launched with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/">Android</a> 6.0 Marshmallow and has received <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-nougat/">Android Nougat</a> update.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-158142 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/emui-8.jpg?x44794" alt="EMUI 8" width="800" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/emui-8.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/emui-8-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/emui-8-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>But the company had earlier decided not to release <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-oreo/">Android Oreo</a> for the Huawei P9 stating that the hardware limitations may lead to issues such as “system built-in function failure, device freezing, and power consumption increase.”</p>
<p>The company has now started rolling out the update in China in phases and will be available for all P9 users in China by 15th July. However, the update is not yet available outside China but we expect the update to be available soon in other markets as well.</p>
<p>The new update brings <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/emui/">EMUI</a> 8.0 custom user interface along with a bunch of new features such as Picture-in-Picture mode, improved notifications handling, among others.</p>
<p>The update is done using the membership app, which is similar to the OTA upgrade version in terms of functionality, stability, and compatibility. With this, the total number of Huawei models that have been successfully upgraded to Android 8.0 based EMUI 8 to 20.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Read More:</strong></span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/07/11/huawei-mate-20-trademark/">Huawei’s new trademark confirms Mate 20 as the company’s upcoming flagship</a></p>

The update has already started rolling out over-the-air (OTA) to select users of some of the Xiaomi&#8217;s smartphones.</p>
<p>Currently, the new update is being rolled out for Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 3 (Qualcomm<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2015/12/16/qualcomm-rebrands-its-newly-announced-chips-as-snapdragon-650-652/"> Snapdragon 650</a> variant), Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon 625 variant), Redmi Note 4X, Redmi 4A, Redmi 5 Plus, Mi Max and Mi Max Prime.</p>
<p>However, the China-based company has said that it will roll out this MIUI 9.5 Global Stable ROM to all of its smartphones. Since the update is being rolled out in phases, it may take time to reach all the users. However, the company has said that it will complete the seeding process in a month.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-180907 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/MIUI-9.5.png?x44794" alt="MIUI 9.5 Global Stable ROM" width="990" height="390" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/MIUI-9.5.png 990w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/MIUI-9.5-300x118.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/MIUI-9.5-768x303.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 990px) 100vw, 990px" /></p>
<p>The devices, which will receive the MIUI 9.5 update in this month, i.e. March 2018, includes Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 3 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/">Qualcomm</a>, Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm/Redmi Note 4X, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Redmi 3S, Redmi 4 Prime, Redmi 4A and Redmi Note 4 MTK (MediaTek Processor) variant.</p>
<p>On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime/Redmi Y1, Redmi Note 5A/Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-5/">Redmi Note 5</a>, Redmi 5, Mi Max 2, Mi 5, Redmi 4X, Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2 will get the update in early April.</p>
<p>Lastly, the remaining devices, which includes Mi Note 2, Mi 5s, Mi MIX, Mi Note 3, Mi 5s Plus, Redmi Note 2, Redmi 3, Redmi 4, Mi 3 and Mi 4 will get the update in mid-April. However, the company has said that the release dates are not yet fixed and there could be some changes in the schedule for various reasons.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Disappointingly, this new MIUI 9.5 update is still based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. The update is said to bring the February security patch along with Notification Shade, and quick reply feature among others.</p>
<p>There is no information available from the company regarding the Android Oreo update. Xiaomi usually takes much longer time to provide new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/">Android</a> updates and remains a generation behind for Android compared to its competitors.</p>

Since then, only a couple of smartphone manufacturers have rolled out Android Oreo update to their devices.</p>
<p>While most users are waiting for the Android Oreo update, here are some good news for the users of Motorola. The company is soon going to start Android Oreo soak test for its Moto Z smartphone lineup.</p>
<p>Motorola has sent out invites to select users of Moto Z and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/moto-z2-force/">Moto Z2 Force</a> smartphones in Brazil who are a part of Motorola Feedback Network for the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system soak test. Motorola Feedback Network is the Lenovo-owned company&#8217;s testing programme.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-158992 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/motorola-oreo-soak-test.png?x44794" alt="Motorola Android Oreo Soak Test Invite" width="782" height="695" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/motorola-oreo-soak-test.png 782w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/motorola-oreo-soak-test-300x267.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/motorola-oreo-soak-test-768x683.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 782px) 100vw, 782px" /></p>
<p>A soak test is similar to Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy Beta Program where users sign up for a programme that enables them to receive beta versions of upcoming software updates or operating system build from the company. Once the soak test is completed, the company will roll out the official update.</p>
<p>While this is only a beta programme, it’s still good to see that Motorola and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo/">Lenovo</a> are working on bringing the latest version of Android for its users everywhere. The soak test for Android Oreo, which is currently limited to Brazil, is expected to be expanded by Motorola to other global regions in the coming days.</p>
<p>The new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/">Android</a> Oreo update is expected to offer several improvements over the Android Nougat operating system, including faster booting time, extended battery life, more fluid user experience. It will also bring the latest security patches through Google Play Protect. It automatically checks for malware inside all the installed applications on the users&#8217; smartphone.</p>
<p>According to the reports, the first beta may arrive in the next couple of days. While the company has not revealed date of the official rollout of Android Oreo, it is believed that Motorola might release the official update by the end of this year.</p>

<p>Earlier, Motorola had revealed the list of smartphones from the company that are eligible to receive the latest Android update. The list includes Moto Z2, Z2 Play, Z2 Force, Moto Z, Z Play, Z Force, Moto X4, Moto G5, G5 Plus, G5s, G5s Plus and the Moto G4 Plus.</p>
