Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra—the swan song of the iconic Note series—is back in the spotlight, but not for the reasons fans would hope. A growing number of users are reporting a green (or sometimes pink) line running vertically across the display, a frustrating issue that seems to have resurfaced recently.

The problem isn’t new. Similar vertical line issues have plagued several of Samsung’s AMOLED-equipped flagships over the years, including the Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, and even the recently launched S24 series. In fact, Samsung offered a free replacement to some Note 20 Ultra users affected by this issue back in 2023.

But what’s causing this strange display issue? So far, no smartphone brand has clearly addressed the root cause. However, it often seems to appear after a software update. While the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has already received its final OS upgrade (Android 13), it’s still on a quarterly security update cycle—and it did get one just last month. In fact, a Galaxy S21 FE user recently shared a video of the green line appearing while installing the update, lending weight to claims that the issue may be software-triggered, or at least exacerbated by it.

Many affected users also confirmed their phones had no significant physical damage—no drops, no water exposure—just a screen that suddenly developed a green or pink line out of nowhere.

Despite the growing complaints, Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the root cause. NotebookCheck speculates that the issue may stem from aging AMOLED sub-pixels or problems with the display driver IC, both of which could be pushed over the edge by a software update.

While Samsung has offered free one-time screen replacements for certain affected devices in the past, the Note 20 Ultra’s age and its position outside of the company’s four-year support policy likely leave it ineligible. To make matters worse, the repair program often comes with strict conditions—such as no physical damage—meaning many users could be left footing the bill for what seems to be a manufacturer-driven fault.

Samsung has recently rolled out the July 2023 security update for the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in the United States. The firmware version N98xUSQS4HWF5 is being released across all major carrier networks gradually over the next few days. This update primarily focuses on enhancing device security by addressing over 90 security vulnerabilities found in the previous software version.

What’s new in this update?

The July 2023 security patch contains a total of 90 fixes, with 52 of them being provided by Google, while the remaining 38 are Samsung’s own fixes (SVEs). Among these, three critical and 56 high-priority security flaws have been addressed. The remaining fixes are considered moderate risks. Notably, Samsung had already included three fixes from the June 2023 patch, which are now also part of the July update released by Google.

The security flaws resolved by Samsung cover various areas, including manual package installation via ADB command, audio system access control, UWB chipset identifier, broadcast SMS configuration, Galaxy Themes Service, Settings access control, and out-of-bounds write issues in internal testing functions. These fixes mitigate the risks of potential unauthorized code execution and bolster overall system security.

If you own a carrier-locked Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in the US, you can manually check for the new update by navigating to Settings > Software update and selecting Download and Install.

Galaxy Note 20 series was initially launched with Android 10, the devices received subsequent updates to Android 11, Android 12 in late 2021, and Android 13 in late 2022.

Despite the affected device being out of warranty, Samsung took responsibility for the issue, potentially indicating a fault with either the software or the OLED screen itself.

Samsung’s proactive approach in resolving this matter is commendable. However, if the issue is indeed caused by faulty software or display panels, it is crucial for the company to address the problem globally and extend the same free replacement offer to all Galaxy users worldwide who have encountered similar issues.

Samsung has recently rolled out the latest security update for carrier-locked models of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in the United States. This update follows the release of the May 2023 security patch to the Galaxy Note 20 series in Latin American countries earlier this month. The firmware version N98xUSQS4HWE4 includes essential security fixes for over 70 vulnerabilities found in Samsung smartphones and tablets.

What’s new in this update for Galaxy Note 20 series?

The May 2023 security patch addresses a total of 72 security flaws, with six of them classified as critical vulnerabilities affecting both Android phones in general and Samsung devices specifically. Additionally, 56 security fixes are classified as high, while 10 are categorized as moderate. Notably, Samsung had already addressed two of the security flaws that Google included in their May 2023 security patch in the previous April 2023 security update. Furthermore, one fix provided by Google does not apply to Samsung devices.

Among the vulnerabilities addressed in this update are issues found in the FactoryTest function, ActivityManagerService, kernel pointers exposure in the log file, Theme Manager, GearManagerStub, and the Tips app. The security flaws also extended to components such as the Shannon modem in Exynos processors, bootloader, Telephony framework, call settings components, and AppLock access control. Samsung has diligently fixed all of these vulnerabilities in addition to resolving 58 security flaws addressed by Google.

The May 2023 security update is currently available for carrier-locked Galaxy Note 20 series devices on Sprint and T-Mobile’s networks in the US. Users can check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software update and selecting Download and Install.

The Galaxy Note 20 series, launched by Samsung in late 2020, originally shipped with Android 10. Since then, the devices received updates to Android 11 in late 2020, Android 12 in late 2021, and Android 13 towards the end of 2022. Samsung has recently released its Android 13-based One UI 5.0, and users are already looking forward to the next big update – One UI 6.0, based on Android 14. The beta testing for the One UI 6.0 update is expected to start in July or August, with a stable release later this year. However, not all Samsung devices will receive this update.

These devices have already received their third major update with Android 13-based One UI 5, as per the company’s software update policy.

However, the good news is that all Galaxy flagship devices launched after the S21 series, as well as select mid-range phones starting with Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A73, are eligible for up to four generations of Android upgrades and five years of patches.

Samsung had previously upgraded its firmware support policy from two years to three years and later promised to support some devices for four major Android OS upgrades. The Galaxy S23 series is expected to be the first to upgrade to Android 14 and One UI 6.0, followed by the older S-series flagships and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 (predicted to be released in August).

While Samsung has not confirmed when the One UI 6.0 update based on Android 14 will be released, it is expected to be available for select Galaxy phones and tablets by the end of 2023, based on the pace of Android 13 updates. Samsung users who want to experience the upcoming Android 14-based One UI 6 software may want to consider upgrading to the Galaxy S23 or waiting for the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 devices.

Samsung’s Expert RAW app has been available for the Galaxy S22 series and a few older Galaxy smartphones for almost a year. Now, the South Korean tech giant is releasing a new update for Expert RAW which will extend its compatibility to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The update has arrived a bit late since Samsung announced earlier that it is set to release it in April.

As initially spotted by Sammobile, Samsung has rolled out an update to the Expert RAW app which enables support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Aside from that, the update also brings a few performance enhancements such as faster processing time in a low-light environment and improvements in the image quality.

If you don’t know much about Samsung’s Expert RAW app, some explanation might be in order. The app offers a wider dynamic range than its standard camera apps and a whole host of manual shooting controls for the more experienced photographer. Moreover, the app enables you to take shots in RAW, meaning you can edit them afterward in apps such as Adobe Lightroom.

The update comes packed in 50MB of data and can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. Now that the Expert RAW is available for Galaxy Z Fold 3, we hope it will soon extend to devices like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, S20 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 who have been quietly waiting for the app to knock on their doors.

The new support update is great for photography enthusiasts who own a Galaxy Z Fold 3. It’s not like the app will completely change the capabilities of the phone’s camera but it will definitely provide users with a more robust solution and lots more options for fine-tuning.

AnTuTu has just released the popularity rankings list for smartphones for the month of October 2021. This list was shared earlier today (3rd November 2021) and showcased that Samsung took the top two spots.

The popularity list showcases the top models that were added the most as favorites on the known benchmarking platform. Looking at this list, we can see that the South Korean tech giant took the first two spots with its Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G at the top with 97.23 percent and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G taking the second position with 93.94 percent. Meanwhile, the Vivo S10 Pro surprisingly took the third spot on this list with 93.91 percent.

According to AnTuTu’s official website, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been in the top 3 popularity rankings for a long while now and shows no signs of being dethroned despite the flagship model launching a year old now. Although, AnTuTu stated that the premium build of the device, which as of right now, is the last Galaxy Note model to launch. On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 Ultra that came second is the brand’s current gen flagship model that offers top notch specs and features. This also marks the first time this model made it to the top 3 spots in this list.

AnTuTu further added that the third entry came as a surprise. It is the Vivo S10 Pro that was launched earlier this year with a notch display and MediaTek Dimensity 1100 SoC. Samsung launched the One UI 3.1 back when it announced the Galaxy S21 series of devices in January. These devices are the first ones to carry the UI out of the box. It then started updating the older devices by pushing the UI update via OTA(Over-The-Air).

Anyway, the latest update is rolling out to various regions in the UK, Europe(like Austria, Germany), and South Korea. If you are someone living in these regions, you can try out the new features by navigating to Software Update in Settings.

The One UI 3.1 brings features like Improved performance, Private Share, GPS location data removal on Images, more Lock screen widgets, Background Video Calling, Google Discover on Home Screen, Zoom Lock(in camera), and more.

That said, a report by Sammobile says that Samsung hasn’t brought the Google Discover, Google Messages to the devices with this update. This means it is still exclusive to the Galaxy S21 devices for now.

Users in other regions need not panic as Samsung will eventually roll out the update soon in the coming days. Also, in the news, Samsung has mentioned devices like the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A80, Galaxy A51, A71. We will have to wait for a few days to know when Samsung starts their rollout.

Samsung began rolling out the One UI 3.0 based on Android 11 update for the Galaxy S20 series a couple of weeks back. Today, as per a report, the company has jumped the gun for the Galaxy Note 20 series of devices.

As Sammobile reports, Samsung began rolling out the stable update for locked and unlocked variants of the AT&T network in the US over the weekend. Accordingly, an update with build number N98xUSQU1CTL2 is rolling out to Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra devices. Plus, the update with a 2.5GB size also jumps the security patch to December 1, 2020.

That said, the update seems to be limited to the United States as of now. Considering the official schedule across Europe and other Asian countries like India indicates a January rollout, users might have to wait for a bit. In any case, the update corroborates with the early leak which said December 14 as the rollout date.

Back in October, a new software update had been rolled out for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. However, since the update was made available, certain units have been facing troubles with the devices’ wireless charging.

According to a PhoneArena report, a number of Samsung users have been facing this issue. This problem has even been shared on official and unofficial forums. The primary issue is related to the third party wireless chargers that have stopped working with their Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or Galaxy S20 Ultra handsets after the new update. Although, this problem has seemingly not affected the wireless chargers made by Samsung.

Users have reported that the wireless charging gets interrupted constantly every few seconds, with affected users stating that the issue was not present previously with any third party wireless chargers. While up until recently, it was unknown what was causing the issue for the high end premium grade flagship models from the South Korean tech giant, but now, a fix has been found.

Apparently, the wireless charging problem is fixed by turning off NFC. This workaround was discovered by James Drissel on XDA Developers Forums and is the unofficial fix for the issue at the moment. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t explain how the problem began in the first place and an official update to fix the bug has yet to be rolled out. So stay tuned for more updates.

DXOMARK has released the display test results of the recently launched iPhone 12 Pro. And although it is two points short of topping the table, its touch accuracy seems to be poor compared to OnePlus 8 Pro.

Jumping right in, the iPhone 12 Pro scores 87 points overall in the DXOMARK Display test. With this, it shares 3rd place in the rankings alongside the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Currently, Samsung’s Note 20 Ultra 5G, which launched in August, tops the charts with 89 points. Thus, the iPhone 12 Pro misses out the crown by just 2 points.

Besides, it does well against the yesteryear iPhone 11 Pro Max which scores just 84 points. To compare, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a smaller 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display compared to the iPhone 11 Pro Max‘s 6.5-inches. You can check out the rest of the specs below:

The report says that iPhone 12 Pro, has only slight improvements in Color, Video over the iPhone 11 Pro Max. However, in touch accuracy, both of them score only 61, and 57 points respectively. And are way behind OnePlus 8 Pro‘s 83 points. The latter sits at second in the rankings with an overall score of 88 points.

That said, talking about Pros, the device has good video brightness and contrast, smooth light transitions, good aliasing quality while gaming, and good image rendering under sunlight due to gamma.

As for Cons, it seems to have a Yellow cast in every activity, less luminance in dark lighting, low-light flickering, and more impact of Blue-light filter on brightness and color.

The Galaxy Note20 Ultra is the second-most expensive non-foldable smartphone launched by Samsung this year. Just like every year’s high-end Galaxy Note handset, it is the most jam-packed phone from the company. It was recently reviewed by DxOMArk Audio, however, it only scored 68 points despite packing so many bells and whistles.

The Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra ranks distant eleventh in DxOMark Audio. Even the Galaxy S20 Ultra is ahead with 69 points. Nonetheless, the new Galaxy Note has the best artifacts score of 90 points setting a new benchmark. The previous record-holder Black Shark 2 Pro had scored 88 points in this regard.

Further, the device performs well in terms of timbre while recording with precise high-end even with background noises. The loudness is also great in selfie videos and in the memo app. But the smartphone has above-average dynamics and volume performances in playback.

Talking about cons, the Galaxy Note20 Ultra lacks high-end extension in playback and due to this, the tonal balance and spatial performance are affected. Also, the balance is shifted to the bottom right in playback.

Lastly, as for drawbacks in recording, mono recording by memo app impairs wideness and localizability, whereas due to lack of low-end extension, tonal balance is impaired, especially in portrait mode.

The Galaxy Note20 Ultra is the most expensive Galaxy Note device ever launched for a starting price of $1,299.99. Unfortunately, that does not make it the perfect phone as certain users are reporting display burn-in issue on their units with the official S-View Flip Cover accessory.

AMOLED displays are susceptible to get burn-ins in the longer run. Poor-quality panels are likely to be affected earlier. The display on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra is definitely not a low-quality panel but still, some users are facing the issue.

These are users who use Samsung’s official S-View Flip Cover made for Galaxy Note20 Ultra. As you can see from the image attached above, the burn-in is visible on the right side of the phone’s display, the part of the screen used by the accessory’s transparent section.

The root cause for this issue is yet to be determined, however, Android Police notes that it could be due to a bug that fails to turn off the portion of the display used by the cover after a long period of time.

Interestingly, the issue got fixed for select affected users when they switched to a different case. That said, Samsung is yet to release an official statement regarding this matter.

As promised, DxOMark has released the camera review for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. The review lab has given the flagship an overall score of 121 points which places it even under the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

For photos, the stylus-toting smartphone scored 130 points. DxOMark says the phone has similar photo capabilities to the Galaxy S20 Ultra and praises its “vivid color rendering, fast autofocusing, and generally accurate exposure”.

The review says that the telephoto lens of the phone performs well at long range and it records good detail both indoors and outdoors. The exposure and color are also praised, however, issues begin cropping up in medium-range shots as lots of artifacts become visible and there is a “strong loss of texture and detail occurs in the outer field”.

The ultra-wide-angle camera also gets praised even though its field of view is not as wide as that of other phones such as the Mi 10 Ultra. The portrait mode is another strong area as DxOMark says the bokeh quality is very good and the depth-of-field effect is strong. However, there are times it falls short, and its depth estimation is said to not be as good as that of the S20 Ultra. The full review explains in detail the camera performance.

For video, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra scored 101 points. DxOMark said that the test was done in 4K/30fps mode and that the phone captures bright and well-contrasted videos in simulated low light (20 lux) and bright light (1000 lux). However, its videos are darker than those of the S20 Ultra and Mi 10 Ultra in simulated low-light conditions (between 5 and 20 lux).

The phone scores are high with respect to the level of detail in bright light. The stabilization system also gets praise and autofocus is also great but there are some focus breathing issues that DxOMark says is also evident in photo mode.

After taking a break, DxOMark is back to releasing smartphone camera reviews. The camera review labs had said it will resume posting reviews in late October but surprised us with the camera review of the Vivo X50 Pro Plus on the first day of the tenth month. Now it has announced that the camera review for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is next.

According to a tweet by the official DxOMark account, the camera score and review for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will be published on Monday, October 5. This is a very important review and it will be interesting to see if Samsung’s flagship phone can take the crown from the Mi 10 Ultra which currently sits at the top with a score of 130 points. At the moment, there is only one Samsung phone on the top 10 list and it is the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a 108MP f/1.8 main camera with optical image stabilization. It also has a 12MP f/3.0 periscope telephoto camera with OIS 5x optical zoom, and 50x hybrid zoom. Samsung adds another 12MP sensor, this time with an ultrawide lens to complete the triple camera setup.

Like every month, Master Lu Benchmark has released the lists of best smartphones launched in August in terms of performance and UI fluency. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra aka Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition leads both the lists, followed by iQOO 5.

Master Lu is a popular benchmarking platform in China. Like AnTuTu, it also releases monthly lists of best smartphones. The company shared the list of best-performing devices yesterday, followed by UI fluency list today on Weibo.

Surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra tops both the lists despite it being powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 unlike Snapdragon 865+ (Plus) present in Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Also, the regular iQOO 5 comes second instead of iQOO 5 Pro, which is at the fifth position.

Similarly, the regular Galaxy Note20 ranks third in performance, whereas the Ultra captures fourth place. However, in UI fluency, the latter comes at distant seventh, followed by the former at eighth.

Other notable handsets in the performance list include Redmi K30 Ultra, vivo S7, OPPO K7, realme V5, and Nokia C3 from sixth position onwards.

Unsurprisingly, the Redmi K30 Ultra ranks ninth, just ahead of Nokia C3 in UI fluency. This goes in line with our review, in which we experienced it to be janky despite featuring MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ (Plus) chipset. Xiaomi really needs to optimize the software on this phone.

Last but not least, the vivo S7, OPPO K7, and realme V5 rank fourth, fifth, and fifth respectively in UI fluency.

iFixit recently published a new teardown article of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. In the article, we see a detailed look into the internals of the South Korean tech giant’s latest flagship series, with a surprising discovery that explains why the device’s run hot during intensive tasks.

iFixit discovered that both the Ultra and base variants are missing the vaper chamber and copper heat pipes for cooling, which the company did equip in its predecessors to offer good thermal management during extended gaming sessions. As a replacement, Samsung added a multi layered graphite thermal pad inside both smartphones, which was also found by JerryRigEverything.

However, this is a bit confusing considering at least one Galaxy Note 20 Ultra arrives with the copper heat pipe and vapor chamber cooling, as seen previously in a South Korean model which you can see here. At the moment, it is unknown why the cooling mechanism differs in the same model and if it is based on the region of availability. However, it might be a cause for concern for some, since reviews have shown the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra running hot, regardless of the intensity of usage. So, it is advised to find out which cooling variant of the Galaxy Note 20 series if one is planning on buying the latest flagship.

The green tint issue that affected the Samsung Galaxy S20 earlier this year, the infamous issue has now made a reappearance in the recently launched Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S7 series.

According to a SamMobile report, several new owners of the Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy Tab S7+, and even the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra smartphones are suffering from the issue. Apparently, lowering the brightness of the aforementioned devices below a certain value would cause the display to have a gree tint. At the moment, only the Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is suffering from the issue, which is notable considering the previous issue mostly affected just the Exynos version of the Galaxy S20 series.

Furthermore, the base Galaxy Tab S7 being affected by the issue may also point to the fact that the problem might not be related to the Super AMOLED drivers, which was previously speculated. Although, the issue isn’t exactly limited to just Samsung. Other devices from various OEMs including OnePlus, Google, Apple, and more also had the issue.

Samsung‘s latest Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been put through Zack Nelson’s durability test. The evaluation sees the phone undergoing several categories of testing to determine its durability which includes scratch, bend and burn tests.

The first test is usually the scratch test beaming the searchlight on Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass Victus which features on the Not 20 Ultra first. The test using the Mohs hardness scale shows the device started getting some scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7. That is because Victu is still glass but with more strength.

The LED screen didn’t recover from the burn test which leaves a chunk of the display permanently damaged. The display still works fine and even with scratches, the under-screen fingerprint sensor still works perfectly.

Further, the phone handles the bend test pretty well with no damage when pressure is applied. The durability test also afforded us an opportunity to take a look at the S Pen stylus and other components crammed inside the body including a tiny lithium-titanate (LTO) battery at the top and charging coil near the tip of the pen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note20 series is the most anticipated smartphones of H2 2020 apart from Apple iPhone 12 series and HUAWEI Mate40 series. The confirmation for the presence of UWB chip in Galaxy Note20 Ultra comes directly from FCC (via @SaudiAndroid). The test for the chip was only conducted on the US variants of the handset – SM-N986U and SM-N986U1. Hence, we cannot tell for sure if models for other regions will have this chip.

Having said that, one might ask what is the use of this so-called UWB Chip. To simply put, it is primarily used on the new iPhones for quick file transfer via AirDrop. Additionally, it can be also used to sense and connect with IoT devices. The best example for it is “Apple Car Keys”, which will debut on iOS 14.

In a similar way, we can expect Samsung to use the UWB chip inside Galaxy Note20 Ultra for “Nearby Share”, an AirDrop alternative by Google and for it SmartThings range of IoT products.

Then, WinFuture once again shared the renders of the handset in the same color along with Mystic Black variant. In the same report, the publication also revealed support for Microsoft xCloud game streaming service, an improved S Pen and the complete spec sheet.

According to a WinFuture report, the South Korean tech giant is placing a lot of emphasis on its stylus for the smartphone. The new S-Pen will feature a response time lower than 9ms, to make the interface and writing smoother than before and feel closer to writing on paper. The company is also reportedly working with Microsoft to bring certain other features like OneNote synchronization and gesture commands as well.

For those unaware, Project xCloud is Microsoft’s counterpart of the Google Stadia game streaming service. In layman’s terms, Samsung is trying to make the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra into a pocket game console that might also be able to leverage the higher refresh rate in the device for improved gameplay and visual fidelity. While unconfirmed, this is also reinforced by Samsung’s latest tease for the Unpacked event 2020 on Twitter, which said “the power to play from anywhere” alongside game controller symbols in the short video.

The Galaxy Note20 Ultra 360-degree renders reveal that its display curves towards the left and right edges. Rumors have it that Note20 Ultra measures 165 x 77.2 x 7.6mm and is fitted with a 6.87-inch S-AMOLED display with Infinity-O design. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and is said to offer a 19.3:9 aspect ratio.

The Note20 Ultra’s triple camera setup is expected to feature a 108-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. The Note20 Ultra is expected to offer support for up to 50x digital zoom.

In comparison, the Galaxy Note20 360-degree renders show that it is equipped with a flat display. The 120Hz display is expected to support the 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Reports have revealed that the Note20 series will come in Snapdragon 865 Plus and Exynos 990 SoC versions in different markets. The Note20 and Note20 Ultra may feature 4,000mAh and 4,500mA batteries. The Note20 series will come with 5G support. However, some markets are expected to receive its 4G LTE version.

Samsung has scheduled a “Galaxy Unpacked” event for August 5 to launch the Galaxy Note 20 series. The two new handsets – Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will succeed last year’s Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Much of their primary specs have leaked over the past few weeks. Now,  a firmware file of Galaxy Z Flip 5G also reveals some of the new camera features.

Unlike Apple and Google, Samsung is known to offer a number of features in the camera app like other Asian smartphone makers. The Galaxy S20 series introduced several new features earlier this year. Some of which are being also rolled out to Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71.

Now, with the Galaxy Note 20 series, the company is improving the features debuted in Galaxy S20 series and is also bringing some new ones. The details about them were unearthed by Max Weibnbach of XDA Developers on Twitter.

According to his discoveries (via SamMobile), the “Pro Video” feature in Galaxy Note 20 series will include options to record audio from either front mic, rear mic, omni (both front and rear), Bluetooth or USB. Further, these phones will also be able to record 21:9 aspect ratio videos in up to 8K resolution.

Also, the Galaxy Note 20 series will come with options for focal length, histogram, 30x zoom option, moon capture similar to Huawei’s Moon Mode, 5-15 seconds option for Single Take, and haptics for certain actions in the camera app.

As always, we expect some of these features to be rolled out to older Galaxy Note as well as Galaxy S series in the near future.

Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra smartphones alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G on July 22. Ahead of the launch, the Galaxy Note20 series is busy bagging necessary certifications. The Note20 duo have now bagged approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. and Thailand’s National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The screenshots shared by leakster Sudhanshu reveal that the NBTC authority has approved the Samsung SM-N980F phone as Galaxy Note20 and SM-N985F as Galaxy Note20 Ultra. These are 4G LTE editions of the Note20 series. The SM-N985F has also been approved by the FCC authority.

It was also found the Note20 supports wireless charging, 9W reverse wireless charging, and the stylus can be charged inside the device wirelessly.

Lastly, the TUV certification platform has approved the 4G edition (SM-N98F / SM-N985/DS) and 5G version (SM-N986 / SM-N986/DS) of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra. The listing shows that the Note20 Ultra supports 25W fast charging.

The live shots of the black variant of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra show that it has a glossy appeal. Recently, the Mystic Bronze edition had surfaced inadvertently on Samsung Ukraine’s website. The bronze edition seemingly Matte AG Glass finish. However, this finish seems to be absent on the black variant.

The leakster mentions the Galaxy Note20 Ultra’s screen will be more curved and it will be surrounded by slimmer bezels. The South Korean company seems to have reduced the size of the camera hole. Lastly, the device appears more squarish.

The camera bump is easily noticeable on the backside of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Three camera lenses, an LED flash, and another sensor can be seen inside it. The third lens appears to be a periscope zoom lens.

The redesigned chassis of the Note20 Ultra features the volume rocker and power button on its right edge. The leakster who shared the images claims that the location of the S-Pen and the speaker are now on the left side of the USB-C charging port. The device lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Rumors have it that the Galaxy Note20 Ultra will have a 120Hz refresh rate supporting 6.87-inch QHD+ display. It will be fueled by Snapdragon 865+ SoC and may come with up to 12 GB of RAM. The 108-megapixel triple camera system of the Note20 Ultra may support up to 50x zoom. The phablet may house a 4,500mAh battery. According to a latest report on ETNews South Korean publication, the Galaxy Note20 series will be available for purchase from Aug. 21 in the home market.

The first half of 2020 did not go as planned for most companies, including Samsung whose Galaxy S20 series is leading up to be the worst-performing phones in the Galaxy S series. To overcome this situation, the South Korean tech giant is expected to ship three premium smartphones starting from August till October.

As per a leak from earlier this month, Samsung is expected to hold an ‘Unpacked’ launch event on August 5 to announce Galaxy Note 20 series and Galaxy Fold 2. The company might also unveil Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G at the same event.

Now, according to a report by ETNews (via SlashGear), Samsung will not be shipping these devices at one go. Rather, it will start shipping each device with an interval of a month.

The report says Samsung will be first shipping the Galaxy Note 20 series in August, which is expected to include regular Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Followed by that in September, the company will ship the long-awaited Galaxy Fold 2.

Then, in October, it will be shipping the recently leaked Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE). This handset is said to be the successor of Galaxy S10 Lite from earlier this year. But for some unknown reasons, the company has changed its branding.

Between all this, Samsung will be also shipping the Galaxy Z Flip 5G but details regarding its exact shipping period is unknown except for the fact that it is being mass manufactured.

As a whole, Samsung will be having a busy schedule for the second half of 2020 to right the incurred losses in the first half of the year due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

A new report has suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will have its zoom lens capped at 50x magnification. This may seem odd considering the previously released Galaxy S20 Ultra sports a 100x Space Zoom, but the company is reportedly placing an emphasis on image quality and user experience over raw numbers.

Note20 Ultra will cancel 100X, the maximum is 50X, Samsung will strive to optimize the zoom experience of the maximum 50X, more focus on the experience.

The news was first shared by Ice Universe, a known leakster, on Twitter. According to his tweet, the South Korean tech giant will not feature the 100x Space Zoom that was found in the previously launched flagship series. Instead, an additional focus is being placed on improving the image quality and user experience when magnified to 50x zoom.

Despite having one of the best looking camera modules, in terms of technicality, the Galaxy S20 Ultra was not as impressive in real life when compared to its rivals. Unfortunately, Ice Universe did not share any finer details into the matter. It is also currently unknown if the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will feature the periscopic lens either. While rumors regarding its other key specs have already surfaced, we would have to wait for the official announcement to confirm anything. The new information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known Samsung leaker. According to him, the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus.

If you recall, Meizu’s CMO Wan Zhigiang claimed in April that there won’t be a Snapdragon 865 Plus this year. But we still cannot rule the possibility and even if it exists, it will be merely a minor upgrade to the already much powerful regular Snapdragon 865 SoC.

Further, the leakster also says that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will feature a QHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel. The phone will also have an option for 120Hz refresh rate in QHD+ resolution, which is missing on the Galaxy S20 series.

Lastly, he also mentions the inclusion of new improved S-pen along with additional camera features. Other than that, nothing else is known about this device. But we expect more leaks in the coming days as we are nearing to the launch.

Rumors are rife that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series will be made official in early August. The series may include two or three devices such as Galaxy Note 20, Note 20+ and Note 20 Ultra. Recently, the SM-N986U Samsung phone received approval from Bluetooth SIG authority. While previous reports claimed that the SM-N986U will break cover as Note 20+, the Bluetooth listing revealed that it could be coming to the market as Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The same model number has appeared in the HTML5 Test to reveal some information on its display.

The HTML Test of SM-N986U revealed a test resolution of 1444 x 3096 pixels. It offers a tall aspect ratio of 19.3:9. It will not be as tall as the Galaxy S20 series that carry support for the 20:9 aspect ratio. In comparison, the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 handsets offers a 19:9 aspect ratio.

On the other side, the Note 20 is rumored to support Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The Note 20’s screen will be flat, and it will have a wide frame. The Galaxy Note 20 series will be equipped with top-center positioned punch-hole.

Rumors have it that the Galaxy Note 20 series will go official on Aug. 5. It is said that the Galaxy Fold 2 foldable phone and Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be also unveiled through the same event.

It is effectively a Note 20 ‘lite’ handset and its specs are quite different from the Note 20 Ultra. Th tipster added that the comprehensive specifications of the Note 20 are even lower than the Galaxy Note 10 from last year that came with a curved screen and narrow bezels.

At that time, the rumor mill had dubbed it as Galaxy Note 20+. However, the Bluetooth certification of the SM-N986U device reveals that it could be arriving in the market as Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

The Bluetooth certification of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra only confirms the support for Bluetooth 5.0 and nothing else on its specifications. The Chinese variant of the same phone has SM-N9860 model. The 3C certification of the SM-N9860 had revealed that it could be coming with a 25W fast charger.

Popular tipster Ice Universe is of the view that the Snapdragon 865+ SoC could be powering the device. In some markets, the phone may ship with Exynos 992 chipset. The tipster claimed that the appearance of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra moniker could be an error and it could be called Note 20+. So far, the rumor mill has revealed that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will have a 6.9-inch 120Hz Infinity-O S-AMOLED display with quad HD+ resolution support. It is likely to feature the same in-display fingerprint scanner that was made available on the S20 series. The phone may come with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of built-in storage.

It could be coming with a 40-megapixel front camera. The back panel of the phone is said to feature a 108-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 13-megapixel periscope lens with 50x hybrid zoom support and a laser autofocus unit.  Some of its other rumored features include improved S-Pen, stereo speakers, and support for sub6 and mmWave 5G bands. In August, the Note 20 series is expected to break cover along with Galaxy Fold 2.
