However, the India launch was postponed and is now scheduled to launch on 10th January.

The event, which was scheduled on 7th January 11:00 AM IST in New Delhi, will now take place on 10th January. The phone is already confirmed to be an Amazon-exclusive device.

The below poster reveals that Huawei will be holding a dedicated launch event for the smartphone in New Delhi, India on Jan. 7. The event will begin at 11:00 AM IST. The Chinese manufacturer has sent out invites for the launch event to the media.

The Huawei Y9 2019 was announced in October last year and it has been available in some markets. It features a massive IPS LCD display of 6.5 inches. The waterdrop enabled display delivers full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

The Kirin 710 that was designed to power upper mid-range phones is present under the hood of the Huawei Y9 2019. During its October launch, the company had announced that it would be available in two models such as 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. However, most of the countries have received only the 64 GB edition of the phone. Hence, the Huawei Y9 2019 coming to India may only come in single storage version of 64 GB.

The rear side of the Huawei Y9 2019 features 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera. At the frontside of the phone is a 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual selfie shooter. The back panel of the phone also features a fingerprint sensor. The handset is packed with a 4,000mAh battery. However, there is no support for fast charging for the big battery of the Huawei Y9 2019.

In terms of specs, the Huawei Y9 2019 seems to be a good rival for the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM edition of the Redmi Note 6 Pro is selling in India for Rs. 13,999 (~$199). Probably, Huawei could be selling the Y9 2019 with a similar price tag. The handset will be exclusively available for purchase through Amazon India.

Design

If you decide to buy one of these devices, do not expect a flagship-class design. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 both come with a full metal unibody design, while Huawei Y9 (2019) is equipped with a more attractive multi-layer plastic back which seems glass. And it also has a higher screen-to-body ratio. That is why if you want the best design you should go for the Huawei Y9 (2019). But remember that it has bigger dimensions.

Display

With narrower bezels and a higher screen size, Huawei Y9 (2019) has the most comfortable display. But the quality is more or less the same as its opponents, more than sufficient but nothing spectacular. It offers a Full HD+ resolution just like Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, so it has more or less the same level of detail.

Specs & Software

Talking about hardware and performance, Huawei Y9 (2019) is the winner once again. Its chipset makes the difference as it is the new 12 nm Kirin 710, paired with up to 6 GB of RAM. On the other hand, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro offer a lower energy consumption with their Snapdragon 636.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has the most outstanding camera department, even though it is not a high-end camera phone. It has a total of four cameras: two on the front and two on the back, with bright apertures and high resolutions. It is very good to capture depth info but it is not recommended for shots in low light conditions.

Battery

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is an outsider when it comes to the battery life, and it is able to last much longer on a single charge thanks to its 5000 mAh unit. It is not only the winner in this trio but also one of the phones with the highest battery life. But its opponents are still excellent with their 4000 mAh batteries.

Price

I would personally pick Huawei Y9 (2019) because of its better aesthetics, bigger display, and great performance, but it costs a bit more. It was launched with a price tag of €220, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro cost €160 and €190, respectively.

Design

Given that the Y series always included entry-level devices, it was hard to expect beautiful aesthetics from Huawei Y9 (2019). But this time it is the opposite: the Chinese company launched a very impressive device which comes with a glass back and even a gradient color variant. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro did not change its aesthetics and materials compared to the Note 5, while Realme 2 Pro is beautiful but it has a plastic design. So Huawei Y9 (2019) wins.

Display

Always told you that if you want a mid-range phone, you have to face the fact that displays will not offer you the best viewing quality in the market. And that is the same with these devices which come with a classic IPS display which is nothing special in terms of viewing quality. So I would pick the Huawei Y9 just because it offers a bigger size which improves the usability on a device like this, especially for advanced users.

Specs & Software

The gold medal for hardware and performance goes to Oppo Realme 2 Pro as it features the most powerful hardware side. It is equipped with a great Snapdragon 660 chipset by Qualcomm which is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM (8 GB RAM and 182 GB of internal storage in its most expensive variant). Thanks to these components, performances are almost flagship-like in some usage patterns.

Camera

Talking about camera, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has definitely the best setup, at least on the paper. It features four cameras, two on the front and two on the back. But note that Realme 2 Pro has a brighter aperture on the rear side, so it should be able to shoot very detailed photos in low light conditions.

Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Huawei Y9 (2019) have the biggest battery, and they are surely the devices with the longest battery life. Both Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Huawei Y9 have a 4000 mAh unit which is able to last two days on a single charge on the former, according to Xiaomi. Usually, Xiaomi optimizes the battery in a better way on its mid-rangers, so we believe Redmi Note 6 Pro will last more. But we will be able to confirm it only after testing the Huawei Y9.

Price

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro carries a price tag of $215 in its base variant, Realme 2 Pro costs $102 and Huawei Y9 (2019)’s price is not known yet. Currently I would pick Oppo Realme 2 Pro due to its better performance, but if Huawei Y9 (2019) will come with the same price I will have to rethink my opinion.

The phone features a 6.2-inch Full HD+ display (2340 x 1080 pixels) with a 2.5D curved glass on top and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the company’s own mid-range Kirin 710 octa-core 12nm processor, which was launched a couple of months ago.

It comes in two variants based on the memory configuration. The 4GB RAM model packs 64GB of internal storage while the 6GB RAM model comes with 128GB of internal storage. Both models have a microSD card slot, allowing users to further expand the storage capacity up to 400GB.

Coming to the optics, there’s a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary camera on the back side along with an LED flash, stacked vertically in the top-left corner. On the front side too there’s a dual-camera setup, featuring a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor.

There’s a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for added security, which the company claims can unlock the phone in 0.3 seconds. Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth v5, and GPS/GLONASS.

The series includes the Enjoy 8 (Huawei Y7 Prime 2018), the Enjoy 8 Plus (Huawei Y9 2018), and the Enjoy 8e. Six months later, it appears it is set to launch a successor for one of the models as the specs and render of the Enjoy 9 Plus has leaked online.

The leak comes from Evan Blass who posted the details on Twitter this morning. The Huawei Enjoy 9 Plus has an entirely different look from its predecessor. Gone is the all-metal body and in its place is a glass rear with a gradient finish.

The front is also wearing a new look as Huawei has included a notch. The notch has a deep recess much like that of the Pixel 3 XL and it is also home to dual cameras. The display is curved at the corners and the lower bezel is thinner than that of the Enjoy 8 Plus.

With respect to specs, the Enjoy 9 Plus packs a 6.5-inch 1080 x 2340 LCD display. It ditches the Kirin 659 processor for the more recent Kirin 710 chipset. It will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Enjoy 9 Plus has dual cameras on both sides. The rear cameras according to Evan Blass are a 16MP sensor and a 2MP sensor. They are housed together and are vertically placed on the left corner of the phone. Below the sensors is a LED flash and the words “AI CAMERA”. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in the middle. The front cameras are a 13MP + 2MP duo.

The Enjoy 9 Plus will come with a 4,000mAh battery just like its predecessor and run EMUI 8.2 out of the box.

The specs of the phone are near identical to that of the Huawei Y9 (2019) (Huawei JKM-AL00a) seen on TENAA last week. However, the TENAA listing says the rear cameras are 20MP + 2MP sensors and one of the front cameras is a 16MP sensor. It also mentioned the phone will have a 4GB RAM + 64GB model in addition to the 6GB RAM + 128GB version.

There is no info on when the device will be announced but we believe it isn’t far off.

Now a full listing has surfaced and we can say this is practically an Honor 8X with a bigger battery and extra camera.

The Huawei Y9 (2019) variant on TENAA has model number JKM-AL00a. It packs a 6.5-inch screen with a 2340 x 1080 resolution. This is the same screen size and resolution as the Honor 8X, so expect it to have a notch. It is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor which is definitely the Kirin 710.

Just like the Honor 8X, the Huawei Y9 will come in 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants with 64GB and 128GB of storage respectively. A MicroSD card slot will allow users add up to an additional 400GB of storage.

The phone will come with a 20MP + 2MP dual rear camera combo. It will also have dual front-facing cameras but TENAA mentions only one – a 16MP sensor. The secondary sensor is most likely a 2MP sensor like the one on the rear.

The Huawei Y9 (2019) will have a 3900mAh battery (~4000mAh), run Android 8.1 Oreo, and have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It will be available in Black, Pink, Blue, and Purple when it launches.

The phone is expected to launch in Europe too which is where it will go by the name Huawei Y9 (2019). However, it will launch first in China most likely under the Enjoy series.

Huawei JKM-AL00 and JKM-TL00 smartphones have surfaced on the website of TENAA, the regulatory body of China. The listings of these phones feature only their images but do not contain their specifications. In August, the JKM-TL00 handset was spotted with Huawei Y9 (2019) moniker on the website of Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Hence, it can be said that the JKM-AL00 device is a variant of the same phone. The same handset has appeared with model number JKM-LX3 with some of its specs at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S.

The TENAA images of the Huawei Y9 (2019) shows that the handset is equipped with a notched screen. The notch seems to be housing a pair of selfie cameras. The back panel of the phone features a vertical dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. It could be sporting a metallic body with NCVM coating for the glossy appeal.

According to the FCC listing of the JKM-LX3, it features a 4,000mAh battery like the predecessor Huawei Y9 (2018). The network bands supported by the handset suggests that it can work with GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile as well as CDMA networks like Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular. Some of the other features revealed through FCC listing of the phone reveals that it features Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, hybrid SIM slot which supports a microSD card.

The TENAA listings of the JKM-AL00 and JKM-TL00 are expected to get updated with full specs in the next days. The JKM-TL00 has also bagged 3C certification in China. The recent certifications of the Huawei Y9 (2019) in Russia, China and the U.S. suggests that its arrival may not be far away.
