What is “iOS Bridge” in HyperOS 3.1?

Reports suggest that HyperOS 3.1 won’t be a minor patch. Instead, it’s shaping up as a cross-platform bridge that lets Xiaomi users interact more seamlessly with iOS devices. Key components tipped for iOS Bridge include:

• iPhone Call Notifications: Incoming calls on an iPhone could show up on connected Xiaomi tablets or PCs, letting users answer or manage calls even when their phone is not nearby.
• AirPods Support: Full compatibility with Apple’s AirPods, including battery levels, controls and spatial audio indicators directly on Xiaomi devices, much like native support seen on Apple hardware.
• Easy File Transfer: A feature similar to AirDrop, enabling fast, lossless file sharing between iPhones and Xiaomi phones or tablets without needing third-party apps.

This set of features could closely mimic Apple-style cross-device integration, which is something that Android manufacturers traditionally haven’t matched natively and help position Xiaomi’s ecosystem as more friend-friendly for users who juggle multiple platforms.

Why MWC 2026 is the Right Stage

The MWC 2026 event is set to kick off at the start of next month as one of the biggest events on the tech calendar. Tecno has officially taken the wraps off its latest Camon 40 series smartphones. The lineup includes four devices: the Camon 40 Premier 5G, Camon 40 Pro 5G, Camon 40 Pro, and the standard Camon 40.

Tecno Camon 40 / 40 Pro / 40 Pro 5G

The Camon 40 and Camon 40 Pro are the more affordable 4G variants in the lineup, both powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset. They feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. 

Powering the devices is a 5,200mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. The key difference between the two is that Camon 40 Pro gets a 50MP selfie camera, while the standard Camon 40 sticks with a 32MP front shooter. On the back, both models share the same 50MP main sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a depth sensor.

Step up to the Camon 40 Pro 5G, and you’ll find mostly the same package—except for the chipset. It swaps in a Dimensity 7300 SoC, bringing 5G support, but everything else from the design to the battery remains unchanged.

Tecno Camon 40 Premier 5G 

The real standout in the lineup is the Camon 40 Premier 5G. It ditches the vertical camera design of other models for a circular camera module. This houses three 50MP lenses for wide, ultrawide, and 3x optical zoom shots. And not to forget, the main lens has OIS support. 

The front camera also gets a 50MP sensor with autofocus. Under the hood, it’s powered by the Dimensity 8350 chip and packs a slightly smaller 5,100mAh battery, but it supports faster 70W charging. The display is also upgraded to a 6.67-inch panel with a sharper 1260p resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.

Tecno hasn’t revealed pricing or availability details yet. We can expect more information once the devices start making their regional debuts.

3. Nubia Focus 2 Ultra

If you’ve ever wished your smartphone was more like a DSLR, the Nubia Focus 2 Ultra might be your dream device or your worst nightmare. Featuring a massive 50MP sensor with an f/1.47 aperture, the phone comes with a physical rotating lens ring to manually adjust zoom levels or add filters.

It even supports a detachable camera grip, mimicking the ergonomics of a professional camera. With a €299 price tag (about $314), it’s a budget-friendly alternative to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which features a similar camera grip but costs over $1,200. Whether people actually want a smartphone this camera-focused remains to be seen.

4. Infinix Solar-Powered Concept

Sustainability meets smartphone innovation with Infinix’s solar-powered concept phone. Unlike previous solar-powered attempts, this device uses perovskite solar cells, which are thinner and more efficient than traditional silicon-based panels. It also features Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) to optimize energy collection without overheating.

While its 2W charging capability isn’t enough to fully replace conventional charging, it could be useful for emergency top-ups during outdoor adventures. Infinix also introduced a solar-charging phone case, adding a practical layer to the concept. Will solar phones become a mainstream trend? Probably not yet, but this is a step in the right direction.

5. Doogee V Max Play

Doogee’s V Max Play might be the ultimate phone for outdoor enthusiasts—or those who just want a ridiculously overpowered device. It features a built-in 5G projector capable of projecting a 100-inch image at 480p resolution, dual camping lights for nighttime adventures, and an ambient RGB light system for mood lighting.

Powered by a massive 22,000mAh battery, it can run for days and even reverse charge other devices at 15W. With a rugged design, IP68 water resistance, and a 6.78-inch 120Hz display, it’s as durable as it is weird. Whether you need all these features in a single device is another question entirely.

The Future of Weird Phones: Will Any of These Make It to Market?

MWC 2025 showcased some truly outlandish concepts, but the real question is whether any of these will make it to market in their current form. While some, like the Nubia Focus 2 Ultra, are confirmed for release, others like Infinix’s solar-powered phone may remain prototypes.

Infinix employs this tech by pairing a device with a special phone case that seamlessly transfers energy through discreet contact points, ensuring continuous power availability. Thanks to Sunflower Wireless Charging technology, the brand also adjusts power transmission over a range of 3 meters. Furthermore, this system also has emergency power access for power access even during outages. The brand believes that future devices may support sustainable charging tech.

Lenovo’s MWC booth had some unique new products that employed solar energy. The best example of this is the Yoga Solar PC Proof of Concept. The Tecno Camon 40 series has finally made its debut after teasers and leaks over the last several weeks. Unfortunately, this was just an official announcement for these upcoming devices, but did not reveal their finer specs and features. Tecno’s latest Camon 40 lineup is expected to feature the MediaTek processors and support for various Tecno AI powered tools like AI Call Assistant, AI Writing, and AI Image Generation.

On the rear, the Tecno Camon 40 Premiere may house a 50MP camera, which is the same sensor that can be found on the Tecno’s AI glasses. But that’s not all, the brand also showcased a couple of other new products like three new Megabook laptop models, a brand new smartwatch, and TWS earbuds. Tecno showcased the Megabook S14, Megabook K15S, Megabook T14 Air, Tecno Watch GT 1, and Tecno True 2 TWS earbuds.

We also got sneak peeks at the features of these products with the Megabook S15 being the industry’s lightest 14-inch OLED laptop with an 899 gram body and 2.8K resolution. The Megabook T14 Air also measures just 999 grams and uses a durable magnesium alloy body. Lastly, there is the Megabook K15S that arrives with an all metal thin and light body as well. The Watch GT 1 features various health related trackers while the True 2 earbuds offer up to 45 decibels of ANC and 50 hour battery life.

The newly launched products reflect ZTE’s approach to integrating artificial intelligence into wireless solutions. The AI-driven lineup includes the ZTE G5 Ultra, the ZTE G5 Max Wi-Fi, and the ZTE U60 Pro, all featuring AI-powered network optimization and management functions.

New AI-Enhanced 5G FWA & MBB Devices

ZTE U60 Pro is a high-speed Wi-Fi 7 5G Mobile Wi-Fi device, delivering up to 3.6Gbps speeds. It features a 10,000mAh battery, supporting 16 hours of operation, along with fast charging and NFC-enabled quick Wi-Fi connections.

ZTE has emphasized AI-driven enhancements in its FWA and MBB solutions, focusing on network optimization, energy efficiency, and security. The company’s AI-powered technologies aim to manage bandwidth dynamically, reduce congestion, and improve energy consumption through adaptive learning algorithms. Additionally, security features such as AI-based threat detection and child safety controls have been integrated into the devices.

After debuting in Japan earlier this year, Nubia is bringing its second-gen clamshell foldable to the global market at MWC 2025. The Nubia Flip 2 comes with a larger cover display, improved durability, and a new MediaTek chipset. Let’s get into the details here.

A bigger cover screen, same sleek foldable design

The Flip 2 keeps the 6.9-inch OLED main display from its predecessor, featuring FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. But the real upgrade is the cover screen—gone is the tiny circular display of the original Flip. 

Instead, Nubia has opted for a 3-inch rectangular panel (422 x 682 pixels), making it more practical for quick notifications, app shortcuts, and widgets without unfolding the device.

Flanking the cover display is a dual-camera setup: a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Inside, it has a 32MP lens for selfies and video calls. 

Underneath, the Flip 2 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Keeping things running is a 4,300mAh battery with PD 3.0 fast charging, which Nubia claims can go 0 to 100% in 55 minutes.

The Flip 2 also gets some durability improvements. While it’s not fully waterproof, it does come with an IPX2 rating (resistant to water drips) and IP4X protection (safe from objects larger than 1mm, like dust particles).

Price

The Nubia Flip 2 is priced at €699 for the 6GB/128GB variant and is available in Night Black and Lalic Purple color.

Both models include the AI Game Space 3.0, which offers customizable gaming modes and performance optimizations. Additionally, an AI translation feature facilitates real-time language translation during calls and conversations.

The Nubia Neo 3 GT 5G features a 6.8-inch OLED gaming display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 1080×2392, and peak brightness of 1300 nits. It supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio for vibrant visuals. The standard Nubia Neo 3 5G also has a 6.8-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate but utilizes an FHD LCD panel with 1000 nits peak brightness.

Both models embrace a futuristic cyber-mecha design with RGB lighting elements for a gaming-inspired aesthetic. The flat-sided design and built-in shoulder triggers enhance the ergonomic experience for gaming sessions.

The biggest draw of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is, unsurprisingly, its camera system. It packs a quad-camera setup featuring a 200MP periscope lens (100mm, f/2.6), a 50MP telephoto lens (70mm, f/1.8), a 50MP 1-inch type main sensor, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. On the front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera (21mm, f/2.0).

Xiaomi once again teams up with Leica for professional tuning, and the device supports Ultra Dolby Vision video recording at 4K 60fps and 10-bit Log video recording across all focal lengths. It also features a four-microphone array for enhanced audio capture.

For photography enthusiasts, Xiaomi is offering a Photography Kit Legend Edition, which is a grip-on case with an accented red camera ring and frame, a thumb grip, a shutter button, a multifunctional 67mm filter adapter ring, and an integrated 2,000mAh battery.

The 15 Ultra sports a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with a 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, supporting HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The front is protected by Xiaomi Shield Glass 2.0, while the back is made of a special glass fiber material.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite processor, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. The 5,410mAh battery is slightly smaller than the 6,000mAh one found in the Chinese variant, but charging speeds remain the same—90W wired and 80W wireless.

Other key features include Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0 out of the box, an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, and Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers.

Xiaomi 15: The More Affordable Flagship

The standard Xiaomi 15 is a more compact and budget-friendly alternative, featuring a 6.36-inch 1.5K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3,200 nits of peak brightness. 

It is also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite processor and comes with a 5,240mAh battery (smaller than the 5,400mAh battery in the Chinese model) with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

For photography, the Xiaomi 15 features a 50MP LightHunter 900 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP 3.2x telephoto camera. The front-facing camera is a 32MP OmniVision OV32B40 sensor.

Like its Ultra sibling, the Xiaomi 15 runs HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15, and comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi 15 is available globally in Black, White, and Mint color options and starts at €1,000 for the 12/256GB variant. The 12/512GB model costs €1,100. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra starts at €1,500 for the 16GB/512GB model. Both devices will go on sale globally on March 4.

Honor is making some big moves at MWC 2025. The company announced today that it will start offering seven years of software updates for its flagship phones, alongside a new AI-powered mobile agent.

But that’s not all—Honor is also rolling out new tools designed to make file sharing easier, improve smartphone photography, and help detect deepfake images and videos. Let’s get into the details here.

AI Connect

One of the more interesting features Honor announced today at MWC 2025 is AI Connect. It allows users to wirelessly transfer photos, videos, and other files between Android and iOS devices. 

Honor calls it the “world’s first all-ecosystem file-sharing technology,” claiming it offers fast transfer speeds between both platforms.

According to brand, AI Connect can transfer files at 125MB/s between Honor devices, 100MB/s with other Android phones, and 85MB/s to iPhones. However, iOS users will need to install a new app called Honor Connect to enable file transfers between Honor and iPhones.

AiMAGE 

Honor is also launching AiMAGE, a new branding for its AI-powered photography features. The company says AiMAGE uses a combination of on-device and cloud-based AI models to improve photo quality.

When on the device, it will use a 1.3-billion-parameter AI model that will help boost image clarity by 50%. Meanwhile, a much larger 12.4-billion-parameter model in the cloud will help improve details in telephoto shots by tapping into more computing power. 

Honor is also working with partners like Google Cloud to expand these AI imaging features over time. One of the first AiMAGE features to roll out is AI Upscale, which can restore old portrait photos. Honor says this feature will roll out on the Magic 7 series —excluding Magic 7 Lite— starting in March.

AI Deepfake Detection

Honor is also introducing an AI Deepfake Detection tool, which is designed to help users identify altered media. The feature looks for things like pixel-level inconsistencies, unnatural edges, and even facial mismatches—such as a face that doesn’t quite align with its ears or hair.

If the system detects potential manipulation, it alerts the user so they can decide whether the content is trustworthy. Honor first previewed this feature at IFA 2024, but today, the company confirmed it will first roll out on the Magic 7 Pro and Magic V3.

Honor’s AI agent is powered by an on-device model with 1.3 billion parameters, ensuring real-time responsiveness and privacy protection. For more complex computations, it connects to the cloud-based AI Kernel, leveraging a 12.4 billion parameter model to enhance its decision-making capabilities.

The AI-First Approach

This next-generation model represents the first phase of Honor’s Alpha Plan, a long-term strategy to transition from a smartphone manufacturer to an AI device ecosystem company. With its AI-first approach, the intelligent phone adapts to user habits over time, proactively offering suggestions, optimizing battery life based on usage patterns, and even detecting potential cyber threats through AI-powered security monitoring.

Long-Term Android OS and Security Updates

In a major industry move, Honor has also committed to offering seven years of Android OS and security updates for its flagship Magic series smartphones, including bar and foldable devices. This unprecedented software support policy, starting with the Honor Magic 7 Pro, places the company among the top three global brands providing such extensive updates. The initiative not only enhances device longevity but also aligns with sustainability goals by reducing e-waste and ensuring long-term security for users.

Honor has also introduced AiMAGE, a new imaging brand that leverages AI-powered upscaling to restore old portraits, arriving on the Magic 7 Pro in March. Additionally, AI Deepfake Detection will debut on flagship models, reinforcing Honor’s focus on AI safety.

Samsung and Google are the only major Android brands that offer seven years of both platform and security updates for their phones.

Google kicked off the trend with the Pixel 8 lineup in 2023, while Samsung followed suit with the Galaxy S24 series. But even after all this time, no other manufacturers have matched their commitment—until now.

At MWC 2025, Honor announced that it will offer seven years of Android updates and security patches for its Magic series, starting with devices in European markets.

Magic 7 Pro is the first Honor phone to get seven years of updates

The Honor Magic 7 Pro (review) will be the first device to benefit from this extended support. When the phone launched in Europe this January, it was initially promised five years of updates. Now that Honor has revised the policy, the device will be good until 2032—or Android 22, if Google sticks to its yearly update cycle.

Honor says this extended commitment is part of its Honor Alpha Plan, a new strategy to transform the company from a smartphone maker into a global AI-driven device ecosystem. 

“We aim to provide devices and services that meet consumer needs and go beyond their expectations,” said Honor CEO James Li in a press release. “That’s why we’ve decided to offer seven years of Android OS and security updates to the Honor Magic series.”

Beyond just software longevity, Honor says this move is a step toward sustainability, aiming to reduce e-waste by keeping devices relevant for longer.

While the Magic 7 Pro is the first to benefit, Honor confirmed the change will also apply to other flagship models and foldable phones. That said, the company made it clear that the Magic Lite series will not be included in the extended support program.

Now that Honor has stepped up its software update game, it will be interesting to see if other Android brands follow suit.

Designed to limit distractions, it comes with a School Mode that restricts certain apps during study hours. Moreover, the device is splash-resistant with an IP54 rating, making it durable for everyday use.

HMD Barca 3210 and Barca Fusion

For football enthusiasts, HMD has partnered with FC Barcelona to launch the HMD Barça 3210 and HMD Barça Fusion. The Barça 3210, a classic feature phone, comes adorned with the club’s Blau and Grana colors, hidden messages from players, and even the legendary Snake game set on a virtual football pitch.

Meanwhile, the Barça Fusion is a smartphone that glows under UV light, revealing player signatures and exclusive team-themed Easter eggs. The device allows fans to wake up to motivational messages from Barça stars, adding a unique interactive experience.

HMD Amped Buds

HMD expands its audio lineup with the Amped Buds, the world’s first wireless earbuds featuring a reverse-charging case. The 1,600mAh case magnetically powers compatible smartphones, ensuring users never run out of juice while on the move. The earbuds pack Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) for crystal-clear calls, and customizable EQ settings via a dedicated app.

The HMD Fusion X1 is priced at £229 and will be available in May 2025. The Barça 3210 lands at £79, while the Barça Fusion is set at £229. The Amped Buds are set to launch in April for £169. Meanwhile, the HMD 130 and 150 Music will retail at £29, and the HMD 2660 Flip will be available for £69.

The fundamental goal of the Galaxy Ring is to track sleep and health data. According to the company’s statement, the ring will offer up to 9 days of usage on a single charge and is resistant to water and dust with its IP68 certification.

Of course, one of the most functional aspects, like other wearable smart devices, is notifications. The Galaxy Ring will notify you of incoming calls, messages, and notifications with vibrations. Although it’s uncertain if everyone wants a vibration on their finger every time they receive an email, we are sure it’s important for some. Additionally, it will have functions such as music control, presentation control, and interaction with voice assistants. The price of the Galaxy Ring has not been officially announced yet, but it is expected to be released in the fall.

Samsung Galaxy XR

Apple recently made a significant impact worldwide with its Vision Pro, which it launched a short while ago. People in many countries, including the United States, can be seen everywhere with this Mixed Reality headset. Of course, Samsung didn’t hesitate to respond, showcasing a headset named XR at MWC 2024.

The product was developed in collaboration with Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. Although we may not know all the details, we can say that it will come with a micro OLED display and, in addition to 8 cameras, will feature a ToF sensor. Like the Vision Pro, it can be controlled through eye movements, voice commands, or hand gestures. The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is scheduled for February 26-29 next year. Although the event is a few months away, Nothing has already started sending invitations for their participation in the event.

Historically, Nothing has used MWC to build excitement around their phones before — Carl Pei showed off the Phone (1) in 2022, while Nothing announced a partnership with Qualcomm for Phone (2) in MWC 2023. So, it’s safe to say we can expect some exciting hints about their next device, possibly from the team itself or even Carl Pei directly.

Now, the new invite poster says “save the date” for February 27, with the cryptic message “Nothing to see.” We think it is a clear hint about a new phone, but specifics are still under wraps.

We do know they’re working on a new smartphone based on certifications, Details are scarce, but rumors point to a new smartphone called the Nothing Phone (2a). It’s already passed some certifications, and it could launch in India under the model number AIN142. 

This phone is rumored to sport a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a centered punch-hole for selfies. A leaked image even reveals the familiar Glyph interface glowing on the back. Unfortunately, details about the device, including whether it’s Phone (3) or the rumored Phone (2a), are still under wraps.

Last year, Nothing started teasing the Phone (2) around this time. So far, it’s radio silence, but leaks often heat up as launch dates approach. We could be just days or weeks away from more details about this upcoming Nothing phone, whatever its name may be.

The company predicts that 5.5G will vastly outperform 5G in many aspects such as cutting down the cost-per-bit of eMBB by ten times and delivering higher uplink capabilities using UCBC to meet the requirements of eighty per cent of ToB scenarios.

However, Huawei has been facing significant challenges due to global trade restrictions imposed on them. The U.S. crackdown has cut off the company’s access to essential supplies. Huawei’s global supply chain is being put under intense pressure.

He proposed to power the custom Nothing typing experience with the DM.

Carl Pei seemed interested in the proposal and asked, “What’s custom about it vs. users downloading from Play Store?” Olivier explained that the Fleksy keyboard is more advanced, supports swipe input, is fully customizable, and can come branded with Nothing’s font. Furthermore, it can be fully customized by one Android engineer or Fleksy as they own 100% of the product.

While it is not yet known whether there will be an agreement between the two companies, the idea of a Nothing keyboard customized by Fleksy is intriguing. Custom keyboards are not new, but Fleksy’s expertise in this field could create something unique and functional for Nothing users.

The P60 models is expected to feature Huawei’s own XMAGE photography platform, similar to the Mate 50 series that launched last year. Based on what we know so far, the P60 Pro will be the first device to feature the 50MP Sony IMX888 primary sensor that is paired with a 50MP Sony IMX858 ultra wide angle sensor.

The third and last camera is expected to be a telephoto shooter that is a 64MP OV64B Omnivision sensor that offers 3.5x optical zoom. Apart from this, the P60 Pro will likely feature Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC as well while the base model could feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Google has announced its plans to introduce eSIM transfer capabilities to Android phones in 2023, as the company aims to simplify the process of changing phones for users. Currently, transferring an eSIM profile from one device to another requires the user to unregister the eSIM on the old device and reactivate it on the new one, which can be a cumbersome process. However, with the upcoming eSIM transfer capability, users will be able to seamlessly transfer their eSIM profiles without needing to contact their mobile carrier.

Deutsche Telekom is one of the first carriers to adopt eSIM transfer on Android handsets, according to Google. The announcement comes after months of leaks and beta tests that showcased the ability to convert physical SIM cards to eSIM, along with the transfer tools that the company has now officially announced.

The move to eSIM is part of a wider trend in the industry, with Apple having already eliminated physical SIM cards from its latest iPhone series in the United States. Google’s eSIM transfer capability will make the process of switching phones easier for Android users, and it is expected that more smartphone manufacturers will follow suit in the coming years.

In addition to the eSIM announcement, Google also highlighted recent partnerships aimed at expanding the reach of Android’s latest software enhancements. Vodafone is making the Messages app the default messaging service on eligible Android phones to further expand the reach of RCS, while Google is simplifying the RCS branding across the board.

Users can finally annotate PDFs natively in the Google Drive app for Android using their fingers or a stylus. They can use different tools like marker, pen, highlighter, eraser, undo, and redo. They can also show or hide annotations and save a new copy of annotated documents.

Noise Cancellation in Google Meet

Google Meet already supports noise cancellations on select Android devices. The search giant says that the feature will be now available for more devices. Thus, users need not worry about distracting background noises during calls.

Increase Content Size in Chrome

Users can now easily increase the size of the content (text, images, videos, and interactive controls) in Chrome for Android by up to 300% using the pinch-to-zoom gesture. Users can even set a default size of their own so that they don’t have to change it every time.

New Sound and Display Modes in Wear OS

Wear OS 3 users will get new sound and display modes to improve accessibility. Mono-audio mode will help limit disorientation caused by split audio, whereas color-correction and grayscale modes will help in relieving eye strains.

Fast Pair in ChromeOS

Fast Pair is coming to Chrome OS, and therefore, Chromebook users can connect their supported Bluetooth earphones with a simple tap. Additionally, already set-up earphones with an Android smartphone will automatically connect to Chromebook.

New Emoji Kitchen Combinations

Planet Computers has announced that it is entering the desktop PC market segment with new ARM powered Linux computers. The new lineup is a part of its latest XR line of mini PCs, which is the first ever from the company. So lets have a look.

As per the official MWC 2023 announcement earlier today (27th February 2023), the London based tech startup’s latest PCs run on the Ubuntu OS. It will also be a part of its new range of Linux mini desktop PCs that are being crowdfunding on Indiegogo. CEO Janko Mrsic-Flogel stated that “The XR series is Planet’s first foray into the personal computer market. By productizing Linux into a mini desktop PC, the XR is another step towards creating a more open and inclusive computing ecosystem.”

The new line includes the XR1 and XR2 with former being powered by a 4 core processor, while the latter is equipped with an 8 core CPU. The XR1 features 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the XR2 houses a Mali G610 GPU, 4GB to 32GB of RAM, and 32GB to 256Gb of internal storage. One can even expand this to include 2TB with add ons. Notably, the Linux mini PC also sports a colored touchscreen that offers controls and details on system performance.

Mrsic-Flogel further added that “Planet has always innovated with device form factors and we are especially excited about the XR’s integrated color touchscreen, which gives Linux users a new level of control and confidence, as well as the perfect platform for developers to access smart Linux appliances.” The XR lineup will be made available on Indiegogo, with the XR1 costing around £399 while the XR2 costs £499.

At MWC Barcelona 2023 today, Google Cloud has announced a new product that aims to help communications service providers (CSPs) automate and optimize their network operations. The product, called Telecom Network Automation, is a cloud-based solution that leverages Google’s expertise in Kubernetes, artificial intelligence (AI) and open source software.

Telecom Network Automation is based on Nephio, an open source project that Google created and led on under the Linux Foundation. Nephio enables CSPs to use common automation templates to manage their network infrastructure and functions across multiple clouds and vendors. Nephio also uses AI-powered control loops to monitor and adjust network performance based on user-defined intents.

According to Google Cloud, Telecom Network Automation can help CSPs reduce operational costs, improve service quality and accelerate time-to-market for new services. The product can also support various use cases such as 5G radio access networks (RAN), edge computing, network slicing and private networks.

One of the early adopters of Telecom Network Automation is Bell Canada, which has used it to automate its implementation of Google Distributed Cloud Edge, a platform that delivers cloud services at the edge of the network. Bell Canada said that Telecom Network Automation has helped it simplify its network management and enhance its customer experience.

Google Cloud said that Telecom Network Automation is part of its cloud-native network modernization offering for CSPs, which also includes Anthos for Telecom, a platform that enables CSPs to run applications anywhere using containers and microservices. Google Cloud added that it is committed to collaborating with the telecom industry and supporting open standards and interoperability.

This is where the external cooler comes in play as it helps the CPU from throttling. For those unaware, throttling is when the CPU on a handset lowers its performance as it gets hotter. Thus, reducing the temperature not only helps maintain peak performance for better gameplay experience thanks to higher frame rates and even keep power consumption in check.

Lenovo has just announced a number of new PCs from its popular ThinkPad series of laptops during the MWC 2023 event in Barcelona. During the conference, the company announced the new ThinkPad X13 and X13 Yoga Gen 4 series along with new models in the ThinkPad L, T, and even E series as well. So let’s have a look.

ThinkPad X13 & ThinkPad X13 Yoga Gen 4

Talking about the X13 series first, the Chinese PC maker has designed the new ThinkPad X13 Gen 4 and ThinkPad X13 Yoga Gen 4 to offer professionals a great platform for hybrid work and mobility. Both models in the lineup feature a sleek design with narrow bezels. These devices feature Dolby Audio speakers and a 5 megapixel camera. The X13 Gen 4 models can also be configured up to a new 13.3 inch 2.8K OLED display that supports Dolby Vision and low light protection technology. The new ThinkPad X13 and X13 Yoga laptops will be offered in two variants.

Buyers can opt for up to Windows 11 Pro with either a 13th generation Intel Core CPUs (with Intel vPro or Iris Xe Integrated Graphics) or AMD Ryzen 7000 series of processors (with AMD Radeon 700M Series Graphics). These laptops are basically built for those that work remotely or even for those that travel frequently. As the name suggests, the primary difference between the X13 & X13 Yoga is the hinge mechanism, which lets the Yoga version have a 360 degree hinge for its display. The ThinkPad X13 & X13 Yoga will go on sale starting July 2023 and will start from €1,190 for the former and €1,290 for the latter.

ThinkPad L, T, & E Series

Apart from the X series, Lenovo also unveiled the new ThinkPad T series, which consists of the Gen 4 T14, T14s, and second gen T16 models. There are classified as workhorse laptops that are built for working professionals that need higher computing power. All of these laptops can also be outfitted with the 2.8K OLED panel option as well as low blue light display options for improved battery efficiency. The ThinkPad T14 will start from €1345 while the T14s and T16 will start from €1590 and €1390 respectively and will go on sale in July 2023.

The new ThinkPad L series are also similar to the T models and includes the latest gen L13, L13 Yoga, L14, and even L15. These are designed for businesses with a wide range of mobile computing needs. Similar to the notebooks mentioned above, the L13 and L13 Yoga Gen 4 also offer low blue light display options while the L14 and L15 Gen 4 can be equipped with up to a massive 2TB SSD storage, which isn’t too common in the professional laptop ranges. The L13 and L13 Yoga will start from €839 and €980 respectively (sale starts in April 2023) while the L14 and L15 laptops will cost €775 and €755 respectively (sale starts in May 2023).

Lastly, Lenovo announced new ThinkPad E series of budget laptops for customers and business that focus on value and productivity features. This lineup includes the new ThinkPad 14 Gen 5, which sports a new 16:10 display and even the new ThinkPad E16 that sports a tall 16 inch panel. These models will offer a high screen to body ratio of more than 90 percent and a large 115mm touchpad design.

The laptops will come with up to Windows 11 Pro and either 13th gen Intel Core processors or AMD Ryzen 7000 series. Other notable features include, up to 2TB storage, up to 40GB of RAM, WiFi 6E connectivity options, and more. The new ThinkPad E14 Gen 5 and E16 Gen 1 will go on sale in June 2023 with a price tag starting from €770 and €780 respectively.

Ahead of MWC 2023, HMD Global unveiled a couple of Nokia-branded smartphones. These handsets are officially called Nokia C22 and Nokia C32.

During the announcement, the company only revealed European pricing. However, the devices are already up on the firm’s India website. Let’s go through the details.

The Indian website of Nokia Mobile has been updated with the listings of the newly announced Nokia C22 and Nokia C32. The web pages talk about the features of the phones but they don’t say anything about the release date and pricing.

As far as specs are concerned, the two products are almost identical. They only differ in terms of primary camera and storage.

The Nokia C22 sports a 13MP camera, whereas the Nokia C32 comes with a 50MP snapper. Similarly, the C22 can be only availed with 64GB storage, however, the C32 also arrives in a 128GB version.

Both handsets are built around a 6.5-inch HD+ display (LCD) with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels (HD+) and a dewdrop notch. They are powered by a Unisoc SC9863A SoC and boot Android 13 Go Edition.

The phones come with a 2MP secondary camera for macro shots and an 8MP front-facing camera. They offer a fingerprint sensor, a dedicated microSD card slot, and a USB Type-C port.

Last but not least, they are backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for standard 10W charging. In Europe, the C22 and the C32 start from €110 and €130, respectively.

Light Antenna ONE is optimised for performance, size, cost, and production requirements of the market which will allow smartphone and connected device manufacturers to integrate LiFi at scale. Compliance with the upcoming IEEE 802.11bb standard means that LiFi will easily integrate with existing 802.11 WiFi networking equipment and also with 802.11 WiFi chipsets shipping in billions of devices each year.

pureLiFi also revealed a series of concepts demonstrating how LiFi makes connectivity better at home and at work. This includes the LiFi Cube, a plug-and-play, LiFi gateway that enables fast, reliable and secure LiFi in the home, at work, and on the move. The HALO an accessory that offers high speed, low latency LiFi connections to AR/VR headsets. For this application pureLiFi teamed up with Solace Power, wireless power experts from Canada, to demonstrate a solution that reduces cost and complexity of 5G fixed wireless access deployment to the home and office..

McKinsey Global Institute estimates that only about 70% of the global demand for digital connections leading up to 2030 will be satisfied by existing radio frequency (RF) and related technologies, even with advancements such as 5G and WiFi 6.

Whether that is to enable secure home working, give gamers an edge, or help service providers extend 5G to new customers. Traditional wireless technologies such as 5G and WiFi suffer from growing congestion and interference that erode customer experience over time. LiFi not only offers inherent military grade security, it also enables fast, reliable and congestion free communications that will free up WiFi and 5G to perform better.

The popularity of foldable phones has opened the door to many new products, foremost among them being laptops that benefit from the flexible OLED panels used in these devices. Several foldable laptops are already available for purchase. Now, rollable devices, which seem like the next step, have arrived. Lenovo recently teased its rollable laptop and smartphone (Moto Rizr) at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. But are these products the future? Here are the details…

Lenovo’s rollable laptop and smartphone are a compelling, unfinished pitch for the future

Lenovo has recently teased its rollable laptop and smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. New laptop and smartphone have been branded as early proof of concept devices, and representatives from Lenovo would not provide details about when they might be released to the public or how much they might cost.

The rollable laptop has a regular-looking 12.7-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio before its screen unrolls. With a flip of a switch, a couple of motors in the laptop pull the screen out from underneath the laptop’s keyboard to hoist it up more or less vertically in front of the user, leaving them with an almost square 15.3-inch display with an 8:9 aspect ratio.

The resolution of the display is 2024 x 1604 when it’s in small mode and 2024 x 2368 when fully extended. The screen is supplied by Sharp, which is the same company Lenovo has worked with on its ThinkPad X1 foldable laptops. The rollable laptop’s unrolling mechanism draws a couple of watts of power while in motion, which might not be ideal when compared to laptop batteries that struggle to make it through a day’s use.

The rollable laptop’s display, with its weirdly tall aspect ratio, could be helpful for both office workers and creative professionals. The form-factor could be useful for people who struggle to work on a single small laptop display and have considered buying an external display to work as a portable second monitor.

Lenovo thinks that such a tall display could offer everything from more lines of code to more cells in a spreadsheet, or being able to write on the bottom half of the display while keeping notes and sources visible in the top half. It’s not dissimilar to the dual-screen Yoga Book 9i Lenovo tried out at CES and is due to release in June.

Despite the device looking polished in the demo, Lenovo is nowhere near ready to release the rollable concept as a consumer-ready device. Lenovo has not been forthcoming about durability, weight, or battery life. Lenovo is aiming to get the durability to 20,000 to 30,000 rolls, which is the same as its foldable ThinkPad X1. However, Lenovo did not provide details on how many rolls the prototype can currently survive. Lenovo has already released a foldable laptop, and its foldable laptop’s durability is in the same ballpark as its rollable concept’s durability.

Xiaomi has launched its latest earbuds at MWC 2023, the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro, alongside the Xiaomi 13 series smartphones and Watch S1 Pro in global markets. These earbuds come with Sony’s LDAC technology, which enables high-quality audio transfer rates of up to 990kbps and bit depths of up to 32-bit. They also support Hi-Res Audio Wireless, making them perfect for music enthusiasts.

The Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro earbuds have active noise cancellation (ANC) technology, which can reduce noise levels by up to 48dB. The earbuds feature a built-in dimensional audio feature that detects users’ head movements and adjusts the sound according to its spatial positioning, ensuring that each audio detail is precisely placed for a realistic sound.

The earbuds come in a “space capsule” style case, which is designed to keep them secure and protected when not in use. The soft LSR-made ear tips ensure that the earbuds remain in place and come in three sizes for a suitable fit. The new “Intelligent Fit Monitoring” feature allows users to find the perfect fit with maximum comfort for hours of listening pleasure.

Additionally, users can switch between connected devices seamlessly with the earbuds’ built-in dual-device connectivity feature. The earbuds promise standalone battery life of up to 9 hours and up to 38 hours when using a charging case. The case also supports wireless charging, making it easy to charge the earbuds on the go.

The Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro earbuds also come with Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, which enables stable and efficient connectivity. They support SBC/AAC/LHDC 4.0 codecs and feature 11mm dual-magnetic dynamic drivers for hi-fi audio. The earbuds are also dust and water-resistant (IP54), making them perfect for outdoor activities.

These earbuds feature a 3Mic+ bone voiceprint sensor, which ensures that voice calls are clear and crisp. Three transparency modes enable users to listen to ambient sounds, such as traffic, while still enjoying their music. The ear handle supports pressure-sensitive operation and can switch between noise reduction modes, music, and incoming call control. Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro is priced at £249 and comes in Star Gold and Space Black colors.

Yesterday, ahead of MWC 2023, Nokia announced its new brand identity. The Finnish company not only revealed its new logo but also its revamped business strategy.

This announcement came as a surprise to everyone. The company’s previous logo was in use for about 45 years. It became an iconic symbol around the globe as Nokia was the world’s largest phone maker for years.

For those die-hard fans who could not digest the change, we have good news for you. The firm has confirmed that its brand licensees who deal with consumer products will continue to carry the old beloved logo.

For the unaware, though there are smartphones and feature phones on the market carrying the ‘Nokia’ brand, they are not made by the Finnish firm. These consumer devices are sold by HMD Global, which is one of the many Nokia brand licensees.

The other Nokia-brand licensees are RichGo (earphones), Flipkart (smart TVs), StreamView GmbH (streaming devices), and Off Global (laptops). Products from these companies will continue to use the old Nokia logo.

Though Nokia stopped selling phones years ago, it is still associated with the product category due to its immense popularity more than a decade ago. The firm now considers itself a ‘business technology company.’

The new identity is a move to change its perception among the general public. But unfortunately, we don’t think it is enough for a layman to understand, however, it makes sense for shareholders and partners.

Finally, MWC Barcelona 2023 has begun. We had already witnessed a number of new, cutting-edge gadgets and smartphone debuts on the first day. At the event, Motorola also showcased its brand-new Motorola Rizr rolling smartphone. Nonetheless, MWC 2023 was particularly important for Tecno and its fans as it marked the first time Tecno has been to the show. During the Mobile World Congress, Tecno has just unveiled its brand-new Chameleon changing colour technology. It’s interesting to see the new technology that the company has on exhibit.

There’s little science behind how the Chameleon colour-changing technology works. A grid of sub-micron prism material is used in the Chameleon Coloring Technology, a full-spectrum electrically-controller prism colouring technique, and it changes direction when an electric field is applied. The substance may refract light in a variety of wavelengths by carefully adjusting the prism’s direction, producing an array of iridescent colours. The substance does not produce any light and is not a display. Rather, it scatters light off of its surface, colouring it as a result.

You can manually select from a total of 1600 different colours using the device software to manipulate the sub-micron prism arrangement, or it may vary automatically based on the battery level, music, or notifications. Up to 2 million times can be done in this manner, making it highly durable even with several adjustments made throughout the course of a day. The material has a 0.03-second colour change time, which is quite quick! It also uses very little energy; 100 changes throughout the course of a day use as much energy as watching a 5-minute video.

Colour-changing technology is not a new concept on the market. Many smartphones currently exist with colour-changing backs. Even Tecno has a special version of the Tecno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition that changes colour when exposed to sunlight. The drawback of these panels is that there are very few colour options and they cannot be manually modified. With the recently unveiled Tecno Chameleon colour-changing technology, however, it appears that this is not the case because we can manually alter the colour using more than 1000 different colour schemes available.

So that was all we had to say about the Chameleon colour-changing technology from Tecno. There is currently no official confirmation that this technology will be included in commercially available smartphones, but it may happen soon. What do you think about this?
