Samsung’s next foldables receive BIS certification

According to the BIS database, Samsung devices bearing the model numbers SM-A857B / SM-F776B, SM-D642B / SM-F971B, and SM-D647B / SM-F976B have been certified in India. These model numbers are believed to correspond to the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, respectively.

The certifications were granted between June 4 and June 9, indicating that Samsung is actively preparing the devices for launch in key markets, including India. While BIS listings do not reveal any hardware specifications, they often serve as a strong indicator that an official announcement is approaching.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra moniker has already been confirmed through a recent Bluetooth SIG sighting, and the company is likely to use the Galaxy Z Flip 8 name for the successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung is launching a company-wide AI initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into daily operations across its businesses.

Announced on June 9, 2026, the program, called “AI Transformation” (AX), will introduce new AI tools, employee training programs, and dedicated AI teams throughout the Samsung Group. The effort is designed to increase productivity and encourage wider use of AI across the company’s operations.

As part of the rollout, Samsung plans to give employees access to external generative AI services, including Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude. The tools will be available across subsidiaries and are expected to support tasks ranging from software development and marketing to manufacturing and business operations.

Samsung strengthened its lead in the global DRAM market during the first quarter of 2026, benefiting from surging demand for AI-focused memory products and higher memory prices.

According to market research firm Omdia, global DRAM revenue reached a record $97.1 billion in Q1 2026, up 85.3% from the previous quarter. Samsung generated $37.4 billion in DRAM revenue, a 95.4% increase quarter-over-quarter, raising its market share from 36.5% to 38.6%.

The strong performance helped Samsung widen its lead over competitors. SK Hynix generated about $28 billion in revenue and saw its market share fall to 28.8%, down 4.1 percentage points from the previous quarter. Micron Technology remained in third place with $21.7 billion in revenue and a 22.4% market share, despite posting robust 81.6% growth.

Industry analysts attribute the surge to booming demand for AI infrastructure. Data centers running generative AI models require large amounts of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and advanced DDR5 DRAM, driving both shipments and prices higher. TrendForce data also shows Samsung benefiting from strong server DRAM demand and some of the largest increases in average selling prices.

China’s Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) was another notable performer. The company nearly tripled its quarterly revenue to $7.3 billion, increasing its market share from 4.7% to 7.6%. While still well behind the industry’s top three suppliers, CXMT continues to expand its presence as China invests heavily in domestic semiconductor production and AI infrastructure.

For Samsung, the results highlight the growing importance of AI-driven memory demand. GSMA registrations are often among the earliest public indicators of an upcoming smartphone. They are required for IMEI allocation and device certification, and usually surface months before launch. The Galaxy S26 Edge and S26 Ultra, for instance, appeared in the database around the same time last year. So everything seems to be going as planned.

The filing does not reveal any hardware details, but expectations are already forming around Samsung’s next-generation flagship. The base Galaxy S27 is likely to retain a compact design with a display around 6.3 inches, featuring a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel and a variable 120Hz refresh rate.

As for performance, Samsung is expected to continue its current dual-chip strategy with the upcoming Exynos 2700 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chips. Memory and storage options could start at 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

There’s still very little information about the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ at this stage. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, however, is rumored to be getting a long-awaited design refresh. Reports suggest Samsung could remove one of the rear cameras, potentially freeing up space for a slightly larger battery. The flagship may also feature built-in magnets for native Qi2 support, eliminating the need for magnetic cases or accessories.

Some reports pointed to a possible new Pro variant as well, which may include a 50MP 3.5x telephoto.

The Samsung Galaxy A27 has been making plenty of noise lately. We already covered the phone’s design, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, and early spec details, and just days ago spotted it in a new Awesome Mint color. Now, the one thing that was still missing has finally surfaced — the price.

Samsung Galaxy A27 price hikes by up to €70

According to a fresh leak, the Galaxy A27 is expected to launch in Europe at €349 for the base 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. If you want the higher-end 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model, that’ll set you back €439.

To put that into perspective, the Galaxy A26 launched at €299 and €369 for the same configurations. That means buyers are looking at a €50 increase on the entry model and a €70 jump on the top variant. 

Whether that bump feels justified will depend on what Samsung is actually delivering. 

As per rumors, the Samsung Galaxy A27 features a 6.7-inch FHD+ display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 replacing the Exynos 1380 on its predecessor, a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP front shooter, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging.

None of these specs scream upgrade if we take the price hike in consideration. In fact, the ultrawide camera is said to drop to just 5MP from 8MP, and microSD card support appears to be gone entirely as well. 

So why is Samsung increasing the price? Due to hike in memory prices, folks. Existing phones from several brands have already gone up in price, as a result, its no surprise that the new models will be expensive too. 

A launch is expected sometime between June and August 2026. As with most Samsung releases, promotional pricing or carrier deals could soften the blow once the phone hits shelves.

Samsung‘s next Fan Edition phone is slowly coming into focus. The Galaxy S26 FE with model number SM-S741 has passed WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) certification, which also gives us our first look at the device. 

In terms of design, the phone looks a lot like the standard Galaxy S26 that launched earlier this year. It follows Samsung’s 2026 design language, featuring a flat body frame and a protruding rear camera module. 

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this device. The Galaxy S26 FE had previously appeared on Geekbench, where it posted a single-core score of 2,426 and a multi-core score of 8,004 in version 6.2.2, running on an Exynos 2500 chip with 8GB of RAM. 

We covered that Geekbench listing back in April, and the WPC certification now adds more weight to those earlier findings. We also got a first look at the phone’s renders a couple of weeks ago, which showed a design closely mirroring the standard S26.

Galaxy S26 FE could be more expensive than its predecessor

On the cost side, Samsung is reportedly making some strategic decisions. As memory prices are sky-high, Samsung is reportedly planning to use CSOT panels for the Galaxy S26 FE to keep costs in check and maintain competitive pricing for the series.

For context, the previous-generation Galaxy S25 FE launched in September 2025, powered by the Exynos 2400 chip, with 8 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. Samsung‘s Galaxy A27 has popped up in another leak, and while it’s not revealing anything major, it does add a new color to the mix. Up until now, the phone had been shown in Black, Blue, and Light Pink. A fresh set of images shared by tipster Mohammed Khatr suggests Samsung is also working on an Awesome Mint version. It’s a pale green shade.

The leak doesn’t really change what we think we know about the phone itself. The Galaxy A27 still appears to follow Samsung’s recent design approach, with flat sides, a punch-hole display, and a triple-camera setup on the back. If you’ve seen a recent Galaxy A-series phone, this will probably look pretty familiar.

As for the specs, they seem pretty much in line with what you’d expect from Samsung in this price range. The device is rumored to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ display, possibly with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with a 50MP main camera that includes optical image stabilization. There’s also talk of a 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging support.

Inside, the Galaxy A27 is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. Paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, it should have no trouble handling everyday stuff. Nobody is buying a Galaxy phone like this for performance anyway. What matters more is that it feels smooth day to day, and on paper at least, it looks capable enough.

The A27 is expected to launch with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, and Samsung will continue offering several years of updates, which is becoming a bigger selling point for entry-level and mid-range Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy A27 doesn’t seem like it’s trying to reinvent anything. It’s shaping up to be another solid A-series phone with decent cameras and a few eye-catching color options.

Samsung‘s rumored Galaxy S27 Pro may still be months away, but it’s already looking like one of the company’s most interesting smartphone releases in quite some time.

A new leak suggests the device could pack a 5,000mAh battery, which doesn’t sound particularly surprising until you look at the rest of the rumored specifications. The Galaxy S27 Pro is said to feature a 6.47-inch display, although the latest leak rounds that up to 6.5 inches. Either way, it would make the device noticeably smaller than the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

To be fair, the Ultra model was previously reported to feature a slightly bigger cell in the 5,200mAh to 5,500mAh range. But battery life isn’t determined by capacity alone.

The Pro’s smaller display should consume less power in day-to-day use, and Samsung may also opt for a slightly more conservative performance profile to better manage heat in the smaller chassis. If that happens, the gap in real-world battery life could end up being much smaller than the battery capacities suggest. In fact, the S27 Pro could potentially match, or even exceed, the Ultra’s endurance in certain usage scenarios.

For those wondering, the S27 Pro is also rumored to use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. That means the two devices should benefit from similar efficiency gains at the silicon level.

The camera situation could be just as interesting.

Leaks suggest Samsung may bring the same main and ultra-wide sensors set to be used in the Ultra to the Pro model, while also adding a 50MP 3.5x ALoP telephoto camera.

The Ultra, on the other hand, is rumored to retire its 3x 10MP telephoto lens and rely on sensor cropping from the main 200MP camera up to 5x zoom. If that’s the case, the S27 Pro’s dedicated 3.5x telephoto camera could prove more useful for day-to-day photography.

Samsung will likely position the Ultra as the ultimate camera flagship in the lineup. But based on the leaks so far, the Pro model may actually end up being the more practical and more interesting option for most users.

A fresh round of accessory leaks from case maker Thinborne may have given us an early look at Samsung‘s next foldables, including the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

The case for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 looks fairly unsurprising. Based on the leaked renders, Samsung doesn’t appear to be making any major changes to the overall design.

The Fold lineup is where things start to get more interesting.

We have been seeing renders and dummy units of the wider Fold model for some time now, but the leaked cases add another piece of evidence pointing in the same direction.

The fact that accessory makers are already producing cases based on these dimensions also lends some credibility to the rumors. Case manufacturers typically work from supply chain information and early device measurements, which suggests the wider aspect ratio and revised camera layout we’ve been seeing in leaks may be reasonably close to the final product.

Samsung’s tall and narrow Fold design has its fans, but several competing foldables have already moved toward wider displays, and the response has generally been positive.

The wider form factor may also give Samsung more room to differentiate an “Ultra” model without completely reworking the formula.

According to current rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could be slightly slimmer than the Fold 7 while packing a larger 5,000mAh battery, a notable jump from the 4,400mAh capacity Samsung has used for several generations.

The Fold 8 Ultra case image doesn’t reveal much on its own, but it does support the idea that Samsung is focusing on refinement rather than a dramatic redesign.

The Fold 7 is Samsung’s latest book-style foldable, pairing a standard phone-sized outer screen with a large 8-inch display that unfolds into a tablet-like experience. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite “for Galaxy” chip and features a 200MP main camera, making it one of Samsung’s most feature-packed smartphones.

TSMC CEO C.C. Wei took a subtle jab at Samsung this week, suggesting the company’s long-running goal of catching up to the foundry leader remains just that: a goal.

Speaking during a shareholder-related Q&A session, Wei expressed confidence that Taiwan’s dominance in contract chip manufacturing isn’t going anywhere. Without mentioning Samsung directly, he mocked a familiar pattern from a rival that has spent years promising to close the gap.

“Twenty years ago, our competitor said they would catch up with TSMC in 10 years,” Wei said. “Ten years ago, they said they would catch up in another 10 years; and recently, they said yet again that they would catch up in 10 years.”

The comment landed as demand for AI hardware continues to push the semiconductor industry into overdrive. While both TSMC and Samsung are investing heavily in advanced nodes, including 2nm production, the reality is that the two companies remain far apart in the foundry business.

TSMC controls roughly 70% of the global pure-play foundry market, according to recent industry estimates. Samsung sits closer to 7%, and despite years of investment, it has struggled to consistently challenge TSMC’s lead in advanced manufacturing and production scale.

A major reason is AI. Companies building accelerators for AI workloads increasingly rely on TSMC not only for leading-edge process technology but also for advanced packaging solutions such as CoWoS. Those capabilities have become just as important as transistor density, especially for customers like NVIDIA racing to deploy increasingly powerful AI hardware.

That’s not to say Samsung lacks strengths. The company remains a major force in memory and is widely viewed as a leader in High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), one of the most critical components inside modern AI systems. Wei himself acknowledged Samsung’s position in that segment.

Still, when it comes to foundry services, TSMC continues to benefit from something that’s difficult to replicate: execution. Consistent yields, deep customer relationships, and a manufacturing ecosystem built over decades have helped the company maintain a lead that rivals have yet to seriously threaten.

For now, Wei appears unconcerned. His message was simple: competitors can keep setting deadlines, but catching up is much harder than predicting it.

A jump to 5,000mAh would not suddenly make the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra a battery monster, but it would certainly narrow the gap.

What’s particularly interesting is that the larger battery reportedly comes without any penalty in size or weight. Ice Universe claims the Fold 8 Ultra will remain around 215g while measuring roughly 4.1mm unfolded and 8.9mm folded.

Current rumors point to two different Fold models. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to retain the familiar tall-and-narrow form factor Samsung has used for years. Samsung Display has shown off a new OLED panel technology that could make future laptops noticeably thinner and lighter.

The company unveiled its “Ultra Slim” laptop OLED panel at Computex Taipei 2026, where it demonstrated a design that reduces the panel’s outer-edge thickness by roughly 20% compared to current mass-produced OLED laptop displays.

That might not sound like a huge difference at first, but shaving millimeters from a laptop is rarely straightforward.

According to Samsung, the improvement comes from reducing the thickness of both the TFT substrate glass and the encapsulation glass by more than 30%. The challenge, of course, is maintaining durability. Thinner glass can be more susceptible to flexing, warping, or other structural issues, which is why Samsung says it had to develop additional manufacturing techniques to make the design practical.

The display itself does not appear to sacrifice any of the characteristics OLED panels are known for. Samsung says the technology supports refresh rates ranging from 165Hz to 240Hz and carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification.

That combination makes it particularly relevant for gaming laptops, where manufacturers are constantly trying to balance performance, portability, battery size, cooling requirements, and display quality. Saving space inside the chassis can have a ripple effect on the rest of the design.

In recent years, laptop makers have spent a lot of effort trimming bezels, reducing motherboard footprints, and developing more compact cooling systems. Displays have not always received the same attention, partly because there are physical limits to how thin panel structures can become.

Samsung’s latest prototype suggests there may still be room to push that further.

The stable One UI 8.5 update has been rolling out since May 6, 2026, and it has already reached dozens of Galaxy devices. There may still be a few devices in the queue, but unfortunately, many older Galaxy devices will miss out on this big software upgrade.

Samsung has released the One UI 8.5 update to devices ranging from flagship to entry-level, launched in 2023 and later, but many devices launched before 2022 won’t be upgraded to the latest software, as per a report from Sammobile. The list also includes flagship phones such as the Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Many Samsung users believed that the One UI 8.5 update would roll out to every Galaxy phone and tablet running One UI 8.0, as both releases are based on Android 16. But the company may have opted for a different rollout strategy this year, and it’s likely that the Galaxy S22 series and many devices launched before 2023 won’t be upgraded to One UI 8.5.

Here’s a list of Galaxy devices that may not receive the One UI 8.5 update:

• Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra

It’s a little surprising that Samsung actually started developing One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S22, as test builds were spotted on servers, but the company later halted development. There has been no new test build since early April. The same thing has happened to several Galaxy devices launched in 2022.

In a press release on Samsung’s Germany Newsroom, the company announced that the One UI 8.5 update would be available on flagship devices as far back as the Galaxy S23 and on the last three generations of Galaxy A-series phones. While it doesn’t include the list of eligible devices, it confirms that One UI 8.5 is not coming to older phones launched in 2022 or before, at least most of them.

Technically, Samsung has already fulfilled the promised number of OS upgrades for the Galaxy S22 and other older devices that may not receive the One UI 8.5 update. The S22 launched with Android 12 and promised four generations of Android OS upgrades. That means Android 16 was the final one. And the company doesn’t guarantee subsequent updates for such devices, even if the OS version remains the same.

Still, many users would expect to receive One UI 8.5, especially since it brings a host of new features and significant improvements. However, that might only lead to disappointment for older Galaxy users.

Samsung hasn’t revealed why it won’t release the One UI 8.5 update to many older Galaxy devices, but a strong possibility is optimization challenges. Previously, it was easy to port a new skin (let’s say One UI 6.1) to an older device simply because it shared the exact same core foundation as the previous build (such as One UI 6.0). But the same doesn’t apply to One UI 8.5.

One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2, whereas One UI 8.0 uses the original Android 16 at its core. QPR2 is a new branch of Android 16 that introduces a number of underlying code changes, updated APIs, and newer developer tools. These platform changes and optimization challenges may be why Samsung may have decided not to upgrade all older devices to One UI 8.5.

Samsung has shifted its smartwatch release strategy a bit over the last couple of years. In 2024, the company skipped the Classic model to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra alongside the standard Watch 7. Last year, it brought the Classic back for the Watch 8 series and released a minor refresh of the Ultra with more storage and a new color. Now, according to a recent code leak, it looks like the company is gearing up to launch full updates for all three models at once this summer.

Android Authority dug into a recent Google Wear OS app update and found three new codenames: Fresh 9, Wise 9, and Project X2. Based on last year’s naming scheme, these likely translate to the Galaxy Watch 9, Galaxy Watch 9 Classic, and a second-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra.

If accurate, releasing a Watch 9 Classic would break Samsung’s usual habit of skipping a year between Classic models. It’s a practical move for people who prefer the physical rotating bezel and don’t want to wait until 2027 for a hardware refresh.

Internally, the Watch 9 and 9 Classic are expected to reuse the Exynos W1000 chip from last year’s lineup. The Ultra 2, however, is rumored to switch things up by adopting Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear Elite processor.

The code also suggests these new watches will pick up a practical feature from the Pixel Watch 4: raise-to-talk. According to a new string labeled “RttSettingsManager3pWearOs” Google is expanding the feature to third-party Wear OS devices. This would allow Galaxy Watch users to activate their voice assistant simply by lifting their wrist, skipping the wake word entirely.

Nothing is official yet, but we shouldn’t have to wait long to see what Samsung has planned. The company is expected to announce its new wearable lineup alongside its next batch of folding phones at an event rumored for July 22.

According to a new report from South Korea, the company has assembled a dedicated research team to study advanced cooling systems for future devices. The effort is reportedly being led by Samsung’s Production Technology Research Institute, with researchers evaluating both liquid- and air-based cooling solutions.

The more interesting option appears to be liquid cooling. Unlike the vapor chambers used in today’s smartphones, the system being studied reportedly involves a sealed cooling loop that continuously moves coolant around the device. That could become increasingly important in the years ahead.

Modern flagship chips are already capable of impressive performance, but sustaining that performance is often a different story. Whether it is gaming, video editing, or running AI features directly on the device, heat remains one of the biggest limiting factors. Once temperatures climb too high, phones begin reducing performance to protect the hardware.

Samsung is reportedly looking at active air cooling as well, though that approach comes with obvious drawbacks. Air vents can make it harder to achieve strong dust and water resistance, while the fan itself adds noise and complexity.

The concept itself is not entirely new. Several Chinese smartphone brands have experimented with advanced cooling systems in performance-focused devices over the years. A Samsung Galaxy S25 FE owner has claimed that their phone exploded while charging overnight, leaving behind a damaged bedroom, minor injuries, and a frightening experience for the family involved.

The incident was detailed in a Reddit post that included several photos of the destroyed device. According to the user, they woke up to a series of loud popping noises that initially sounded like fireworks. Moments later, they realized the phone charging near the bed had entered thermal runaway.

The user says the Galaxy S25 FE was connected to a third-party 20W USB-PD charger using Samsung’s original USB-C cable. The phone was also sitting inside a leather wallet case. According to the account, the device was located close to where both the owner and their 8-year-old son were sleeping.

The user reported suffering a minor burn on the neck and singed hair, while smoke from the fire reportedly spread throughout the room. Firefighters were eventually called to the scene. At the time of writing, Samsung has not publicly commented on the incident.

One aspect of the story that immediately sparked discussion online was the charging setup. Some readers pointed to the mattress and wallet case as possible contributors because both can effectively reduce heat dissipation. However, modern smartphones are specifically designed with these scenarios in mind.

Samsung’s wider foldable design is no longer really a secret at this point. Earlier leaks already gave us a fairly good idea of the new aspect ratio through screen protector images, CAD renders, and even a metal dummy shown side-by-side with a more traditional tall Fold design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

What makes the latest leak more interesting is the level of detail. Newly surfaced dummy units shared by Sonny Dickson look much closer to actual production hardware rather than simple aluminum placeholders, giving a better sense of the device’s proportions, thickness, and overall in-hand feel.

The images show three upcoming Samsung foldables together, including the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the wider Fold variant that has been appearing in previous rumors. Compared to older Galaxy Fold models, the wider version looks noticeably shorter and broader, moving closer to the proportions of a small tablet when unfolded.

One of the more surprising details is the thickness. Despite the larger footprint, the device appears extremely thin, staying close to Galaxy Z Fold 7 territory. Earlier leaks suggested around 9.8mm folded and roughly 4.3mm unfolded.

The dummy also reveals more refined exterior details that previous leaks did not show clearly. On the back, the wider model appears to use a pill-shaped camera island housing two camera sensors, likely a main and ultrawide setup. It may hint that the company is intentionally differentiating this model from the Ultra-branded variant.

Another thing the newer dummy units help visualize better is the overall usability of the wider aspect ratio. Previous Galaxy Fold devices have often been criticized for feeling too narrow when closed and slightly awkward when unfolded. The wider design appears much more practical for typing, multitasking, gaming, and watching videos without excessive black bars.

Samsung is expected to unveil its next foldables during a Galaxy Unpacked event in July, reportedly taking place in London.

At this point, the wider aspect ratio itself is not really the new part anymore. What these latest dummy leaks mainly do is give a much clearer look at how refined the hardware may already be, and how Samsung could finally be moving toward a foldable design that feels less experimental and more naturally usable day to day.

Samsung’s Galaxy S27 lineup is starting to take shape through early leaks, and one model in particular is drawing a lot of attention already. According to recent reports, Samsung may introduce a new Galaxy S27 Pro next year, sitting somewhere between the Plus and Ultra models.

What makes the leak interesting is the camera setup. The S27 Pro is rumored to use an ALoP telephoto lens with around 3.5x optical zoom paired with a 50MP sensor, and some insiders believe it could actually produce better-looking shots than the Ultra in the most commonly used zoom ranges.

That might sound strange at first, considering the Ultra is still expected to be Samsung’s top camera phone. But the idea here is fairly simple. The S27 Ultra may reportedly drop the separate 3x telephoto lens entirely and instead rely more heavily on cropping from its 200MP main camera for mid-range zoom shots.

The S27 Pro, meanwhile, would keep a dedicated optical zoom camera specifically optimized for that range. In real-world use, that should help with portraits, indoor zoom shots, and everyday photography between roughly 2x and 5x where people actually use zoom most often.

Leaks also suggest both the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra could share the same new 200MP main sensor along with an upgraded 50MP ultrawide camera. The biggest differences may come down to zoom hardware, size, and premium extras like the S Pen.

The Pro model is reportedly being positioned as a more compact “mini Ultra” option with a flat display around the 6.4 to 6.5-inch range. In other words, Samsung may be trying to offer flagship-level cameras without forcing users into the largest possible phone.

Interestingly, this approach feels somewhat similar to what other brands have been experimenting with recently. Instead of simply adding more camera sensors, companies are starting to focus more on which focal lengths people actually use most often.

Of course, all of this is still very early, and Samsung’s plans could easily change before launch. But if the leaks are accurate, the Galaxy S27 Pro may end up becoming one of the more interesting additions to Samsung’s lineup in quite a while, especially for users who want strong cameras without carrying around a massive Ultra model.

The stable One UI 8.5 rollout is gaining momentum, as the update has gone live for a bunch of Galaxy devices. Samsung began its global rollout on May 11, starting with premium models like the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z TriFold. But it didn’t take long to expand it to cheaper models like the Galaxy A16.

Samsung spent 5 months in beta testing, which was quite longer than usual, and made us wonder whether this delay would also impact the One UI 9 release. But fortunately, things are looking back on track as the stable update has already been released for over a dozen Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy S25 phones were the first recipients of the rollout, but it was surprising to see phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge receiving the update at the same time, despite not being a part of the beta program. Just a few days later, the update began rolling out to mid-range phones, starting with the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36.

Some premium phones are still waiting for the One UI 8.5 update as I write this post, but that isn’t delaying the rollout for mid-range and cheaper models. In fact, the rollout pace has gotten quicker. Just this week, the One UI 8.5 update has reached many A and M series phones, including Galaxy M56, Galaxy A35, Galaxy A55, and Galaxy A16 5G.

MediaTek has completely transformed its Dimensity lineup, and the new Dimensity 9500 proves it. The latest Dimensity flagship goes toe-to-toe with the absolute best from Qualcomm and Apple. On the flip side, while Samsung’s Exynos line has historically struggled, the Exynos 2600 feels like a massive leap forward rather than just another boring annual refresh.

The Exynos 2600 is the company’s first smartphone processor to feature an “all-big” CPU design, allowing the chip to unlock higher performance. It’s also the world’s first smartphone chipset fabricated using a 2nm process, further adding to performance and efficiency. Historically, MediaTek chips have outperformed Exynos chips, but this time, the battle looks more intense.

Let’s compare them to see whether the advanced node and all-big CPU design can help the Exynos 2600 beat MediaTek’s rival, the Dimensity 9500.

In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the Dimensity 9500 achieves a 13% higher single-core score. In the multi-core test, however, the Exynos 2600 is ahead, but the gap is just too small to create a major difference.

AnTuTu score

The Dimensity 9500 puts up a strong total on AnTuTu, scoring over 3.5 million points, whereas the Exynos 2600 scores 3.2 million points. While it shows the Dimensity chip is stronger, it’s the breakdown of the AnTuTu score that offers more clarity.

The all-big 10-core CPU on the Exynos chip gets about 3.6% higher AnTuTu score than the Dimensity 9500’s 8-core CPU. However, the latter bounces back strongly in the GPU test with a 16% higher score.

The 3DMark benchmark also confirms that the Dimensity 9500 has a more powerful GPU. There isn’t a big difference in the best loop score, but the Dimensity chip has a much better lowest loop score. This means higher gaming stability on the Dimensity 9500-powered smartphone.

In all benchmark tests we’ve run so far, the Dimensity 9500 is more powerful than the Exynos 2600. But there’s more than just the performance. It’s also important to understand the differences in camera capabilities, connectivity, and other key aspects.

Dimensity 9500 vs Exynos 2600: Key differences that matter

Performance

CPU

The Dimensity 9500 utilizes TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm node, whereas the Exynos 2600 is manufactured using Samsung’s 2nm process. Besides, their CPU configurations also differ. The Dimensity chip has an 8-core layout, featuring one C1-Ultra, three C1-Premium, and four C1-Pro cores.

In contrast, the Exynos 2600 has two additional CPU cores but skips the C1-Premium cores. The 10-core setup includes one C1-Ultra, three C1-Pro, and six C1-Pro cores.

Even with fewer CPU cores, the Dimensity 9500 outperforms the Exynos 2600 in some benchmark tests. That’s because of higher clock speeds and the performance-friendly C1-Premium cores.

GPU

The Dimensity 9500 features a 12-core Mali-G1 Ultra graphics unit, offering superior performance and stability compared to the Xclipse 960 GPU on the Exynos 2600. But when it comes to ray tracing performance, the Exynos chip shines.

The Dimensity chip is widely praised for cooler thermals. On the other hand, Exynos chips have faced major overheating issues, but the latest Exynos 2600 dramatically improves this by introducing the Heat Path Block (HPB). It’s a hardware component located directly over the hottest areas of the main processing unit.

Furthermore, the Dimensity 9500 offers a full suite of MediaTek HyperEngine Gaming Technology, improving latency, frame rates, and power consumption. The Exynos chip benefits from Samsung’s partnership with AMD, which focuses on optimizing game engines like Unity and Unreal for this architecture.

NPU

The Dimensity 9500 comes with an upgraded MediaTek NPU 990 with agentic AI capabilities. MediaTek says it’s twice as powerful as the previous generation, with 56% better power efficiency, and is designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks in the background. The new NPU can generate 4K images from text.

The Exynos 2600 also brings major NPU upgrades compared to the Exynos 2500, including 113% faster generative AI performance and significantly reduced power consumption and latency. The NPU also helps with resolution upscaling and frame generation.

Camera

Both chipsets boast high-end camera features, but there are several key things to note. The Dimensity 9500 integrates an NPU-assisted 30fps focus-tracking engine, ensuring a clear shot in every frame. It also has a powerful denoise technology for 200MP photo captures.

The Exynos 2600 focuses on real-time element recognition and severe low-light optimization, backed by its on-device AI enhancements. It integrates an AI-based Visual Perception System (VPS) that allows the ISP to recognize detailed elements within images and videos in real time.

The Exynos chip also features Deep Learning Video Noise Reduction (DVNR) to enhance clarity in low-light conditions and supports the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec.

Connectivity

The Dimensity 9500 has an integrated 5G modem, whereas the Exynos 2600 relies on a separate, external component for connectivity. Both chips offer robust, modern connectivity features, but there’s a big difference in the download speed.

On a 5G connection, the Dimensity chip can reach up to 7.4Gbps of download speed, while the Exynos chip can reach 2X of that, up to 14.79Gbps. The Dimensity chip excels in peak Wi-Fi 7 speeds, offering up to 7.3Gbps (versus 4.9Gbps on the Exynos 2600).

Even though the Galaxy S26 FE is still months away from launch, accessory makers have apparently already started preparing cases for it. As a result, early renders based on those case molds are now giving us a fairly decent look at the device from different angles.

At first glance, the Galaxy S26 FE looks very similar to the regular Galaxy S26 that launched earlier this year. The phone appears to use flat sides, slim display bezels, and Samsung’s familiar vertically aligned triple-camera setup on the back.

The rear camera module still protrudes quite a bit from the body, with the flash sitting separately beside the lenses instead of inside the camera island itself. It is a design Samsung has been sticking with lately.

On the front, the renders show a centered punch-hole selfie camera and what is expected to be a flat AMOLED display. The power and volume buttons remain positioned on the right side of the frame.

One interesting detail coming from the case renders is the appearance of a magnetic ring design, which points toward Qi2 wireless charging support. While the 2027 Galaxy S27 series is rumored to finally include built-in magnets, the upcoming FE model still appears to rely on magnetic cases, much like the rest of the S26 lineup.

The Galaxy S26 FE has already surfaced in several databases over the past few weeks, including GSMA IMEI listings and benchmark platforms, suggesting Samsung is actively testing the device ahead of launch.

Current rumors point to an October 2026 release, with the device expected to use Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chipset alongside upgraded battery life and solid overall cameras. As usual, the FE model will likely focus on offering a balanced flagship-like experience without fully flagship pricing.

There is still plenty we do not know yet, but based on these early renders, Samsung does not seem interested in dramatically changing the FE formula this year. Instead, the company appears to be refining the existing design while bringing a few newer features down from the flagship lineup.

Samsung’s next foldables may arrive with simpler names than previously expected. According to a new leak from Ice Universe, the company could be dropping the confusing “Wide” and “Large” branding that had been floating around recent rumors for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup.

Instead, the device previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide may launch simply as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the higher-end model could reportedly debut as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

If accurate, the change would make Samsung’s foldable lineup much easier to understand. Names like “Z Fold 8 Wide” and “Galaxy Z Wide Fold” have appeared in leaks over the past few months, but many people felt the branding sounded awkward and unnecessarily complicated.

The rumored Ultra model is expected to sit above the standard Fold 8 with a few notable hardware upgrades. Current reports suggest it could feature a larger 5000mAh battery along with a more advanced triple-camera setup that includes a dedicated telephoto lens. Meanwhile, the regular Fold 8 is tipped to use a slightly smaller 4800mAh battery and a simpler dual-camera system.

Both devices are still expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and refined foldable displays, although the standard model may adopt a more compact aspect ratio compared to the Ultra variant.

Samsung could end up increasing prices for some versions of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 as production costs continue rising across the industry.

According to a recent report from Korean outlet Newspim, Samsung has been dealing with higher chipset and memory prices ahead of the next foldable launch cycle. The company is reportedly trying to keep the starting prices unchanged, but the higher storage variants may not be so lucky this time.

Right now, the expectation is that the base storage versions could launch at roughly the same prices as the current generation. The 512GB and 1TB models, however, are expected to cost more. Samsung has already been leaning in this direction recently, where the more expensive storage tiers quietly absorb most of the price increases.

The timing is not exactly surprising. DRAM prices have been climbing again, and AI demand has been putting extra pressure on the semiconductor market in general.

As for the actual hardware, early leaks suggest the Fold 8 series may focus more on refinement than major changes. Reports so far point to fairly iterative upgrades, and some rumors even claim the crease reduction may not improve dramatically compared to the previous generation.

There are also whispers that S Pen support and Samsung’s newer Privacy Display tech could remain absent, possibly as part of broader cost-control decisions.

Samsung is still expected to unveil the new foldables sometime around late July, possibly during an Unpacked event in London. If that ends up happening, it would be a fairly big shift for Samsung’s flagship phones, which have traditionally relied almost entirely on panels made by Samsung Display itself.

The reported reason mostly comes down to cost. BOE is said to have offered panels that are roughly $5 cheaper per unit compared to Samsung Display. That may not sound huge at first, but across millions of phones, the savings add up pretty quickly.

The timing also makes sense from Samsung’s side. Component costs, especially DRAM memory prices, have been rising again recently, and smartphone makers are under pressure to control production costs.

For now, reports suggest Samsung Display would still remain the primary supplier, with BOE acting more as a secondary source. Samsung already uses panels from companies like TCL CSOT in some mid-range Galaxy devices, so the idea itself is not completely new. The bigger talking point is simply the possibility of BOE entering the flagship Galaxy S lineup.

There are also reports that the base Galaxy S27 could use an older OLED material set instead of Samsung Display’s latest-generation technology, again likely as part of the same cost-cutting effort.

Of course, display quality is one area where Samsung phones have traditionally had a very strong reputation, so some users will probably question whether panel consistency could change depending on the supplier. Samsung may already dominate the foldable market, but the company clearly is not done experimenting with smartphone form factors yet. New patent filings suggest Samsung is now exploring rollable and sliding phone designs again, this time with concepts that look noticeably more practical than some of the futuristic prototypes we have seen over the past few years.

The patents, recently spotted by WearView, show multiple designs where a phone can physically expand into a larger screen through sliding or rolling mechanisms.

One of the concepts works somewhat like a normal smartphone at first glance. But instead of unfolding like a Galaxy Z Fold, the display extends outward horizontally when pulled, giving users a much wider screen for multitasking, gaming, or watching videos. It almost feels like Samsung trying to combine the portability of a standard phone with the larger canvas of a foldable.

The second concept is even more unusual.

In its compact form, the display is completely hidden inside the body of the device. Pulling on the sides causes the screen to slide outward and reveal a larger panel. Samsung describes this approach as a way to better protect the display from scratches and impacts when not in use, which honestly addresses one of the biggest concerns people still have about flexible screens.

The patent also mentions sensors capable of detecting how far the display has been extended and how quickly it moves. That information could allow the software interface to dynamically adapt depending on screen size and orientation.

Of course, this is still patent territory for now. Samsung files a huge number of concepts every year, and many never become real products. Rollable phones also come with their own engineering challenges involving durability, moving parts, battery space, and long-term reliability.

Still, Samsung has clearly been interested in this category for a while. Samsung Display has already shown rollable and slidable OLED prototypes publicly at trade shows like CES and MWC, so these ideas are not appearing completely out of nowhere.

And honestly, rollables may actually solve a few problems foldables still struggle with today. Some users still dislike visible creases or bulky hinges, while a rollable design could theoretically stay compact most of the time and only expand when needed.

Samsung began the stable One UI 8.5 rollout in the first week of May, and as anyone would expect, South Korea was the first region to get it. A week later, the update started rolling out globally, with premium models like the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 being the first devices to receive it.

The company is wasting no time in expanding the update beyond its absolute newest hardware. The OTA builds are already hitting previous-generation flagships like the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series. The mid-range segment has also entered the mix, led by the Galaxy A56.

Galaxy S27 Pro may bridge the gap between Plus and Ultra

According to reports from Korean publication ETNews and other industry sources, the Galaxy S27 Pro could feature a 6.47-inch OLED display. This would place it between the regular Galaxy S27 and the larger Galaxy S27+ in terms of size. The phone is reportedly aimed at users who want top-tier specifications without carrying an oversized device.

The Galaxy S27 Pro is said to share many of its core features with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Rumored specifications include a next-generation Snapdragon chipset, Samsung’s Privacy Display technology, and a flagship-grade camera system. The camera setup may include a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

Reports also suggest that Samsung may skip the S Pen on the Galaxy S27 Pro to keep the phone slimmer and more compact. This would leave the Galaxy S27 Ultra as the only model in the lineup with stylus support and productivity-focused features.

The move appears to align with a growing trend in the premium smartphone segment where brands are offering flagship hardware in multiple screen sizes. Apple and Google already offer Pro-level devices in relatively compact form factors, and Samsung may now be preparing a similar strategy for Galaxy users.

Samsung has moved ahead of Apple in customer satisfaction among smartphone users in the United States, according to the latest report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The new survey shows Samsung taking the top position with a score of 81, while Apple followed closely behind with 80 points.

Last year, both companies were tied in the rankings, but the new results suggest Samsung has managed to gain a slight advantage in how users feel about their devices and overall experience.

The report also notes that customer satisfaction across the smartphone industry improved slightly this year. The overall score for the category rose by 1% to 79 points after a noticeable decline in the previous year.

AI is also a part of the satisfaction metric 

One major reason for the improvement is said to be the growing usefulness of modern smartphone features. The survey suggests that newer technologies are no longer being seen as marketing tricks. Instead, users now feel many of these additions are genuinely helpful in everyday use. ACSI highlights battery life improvement as one of the biggest positives for consumers.

Artificial intelligence also played an important role in this year’s rankings. AI-related features were included in the survey for the first time, and they are well-received by users. According to the report, many consumers now see AI tools as practical features rather than experimental additions. 

Among individual devices, premium flagship phones delivered the highest satisfaction scores. Samsung’s Galaxy S series led the category with 84 points, while Apple’s latest iPhone lineup scored 82 points. Google’s flagship smartphones followed with 80 points.

The report also looked at foldable phones, where Samsung continues to dominate the segment ahead of Google and Motorola. However, foldable devices generated more user complaints than traditional smartphones, showing that the category still faces some challenges.

The survey was based on feedback collected from more than 20,000 users.

Samsung has recently started to roll out the stable One UI 8.5 update globally. It is now available for over a dozen Galaxy devices, with more to receive it in the coming days and weeks. Whether you have received the update or are still waiting for it, don’t miss these five upgrades that turn One UI 8.5 from a mere incremental upgrade into a truly useful upgrade.

1. Quick Panel receives its biggest upgrade in years

Quick Panel has received numerous upgrades in recent years, but this one is big, especially for those who like customization. One UI 8.5 removes almost all restrictions on Quick Panel customizations, allowing users to drag, resize, and remove any slider, toggle, or widget.

You can even change the sliders from standard bars to vertical bars. Further, major interface widgets like media player, brightness sliders, and volume sliders can be shrunk or expanded.

For comparison, One UI 8.0 only allows reordering specific sections. It doesn’t even let us remove or reposition Smart View and Device Control tiles. One UI 8.5 offers absolute freedom to customize the Quick Panel as you need. You can even remove all sections and tiles for a completely blank layout.

2. Floating tab bar gives modern aesthetics

One UI 8.5 replaces the traditional bottom navigation bar with a modern pill-shaped UI element, officially called the “Floating tab bar.” It’s a compact element with translucent matte appearance and a smooth gradient blur.

Unlike the previous navigation bar, the floating tab bar is detached from the edges of the screen. It appears to dynamically float directly above the on-screen content, offering a premium aesthetic and improved one-handed reachability.

Samsung offers a floating tab bar UI across many of its first-party applications, including Phone, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus. Third-party developers have also started integrating the modern floating bar into their apps, pushing towards a unified user experience.

3. Galaxy AI becomes a lot more useful

Samsung phones offer the best AI experience, and it only keeps getting better with each upgrade. The latest software, One UI 8.5, adds the “Call screening” feature within Call Assist. It can automatically pick up calls and ask the caller why they’re calling.

Even if the AI picks up the call, you can still talk to the caller any time, or switch to the Text call. This is a great way to filter spam calls, and also helps avoid unnecessary calls when you’re busy.

One UI 8.5 also features an upgraded Photo Assist, which lets users edit photos with AI without needing to save each iteration. And there’s a history button at the top-right corner to see past generations. The Sketch to image feature has also been replaced with a more versatile Create tab, which lets you change backgrounds or add objects using descriptive text prompts rather than drawing them.

Unfortunately, Galaxy AI is limited to a small subset of Galaxy devices, particularly the high-end phones released in recent years. That’s because of hardware limitations.

4. Seamless file sharing with Apple devices via AirDrop support

One UI 8.5 finally removes the file sharing complexities that have existed between Android and Apple devices for years by making Quick Share compatible with Apple’s AirDrop. So, you can now seamlessly share files with Apple devices in a few easy clicks.

To enable this new feature, navigate to Settings > Connected devices > Quick Share and enable Share with Apple devices. When you want to share a file, go to Settings > AirDrop on your Apple device, tap Everyone for 10 minutes, then start sending files.

5. More lock screen customizations

One UI 8.0 already offers rich lock-screen customization, but it has just gone a level up with One UI 8.5. The new software automatically adjusts the placement of people and pets around the clock and widgets for a perfect fit. You can now also preview and apply live weather effects directly from the wallpaper preview screen.

Samsung’s next foldables are starting to leak in more detail, and this year the company seems to be focusing less on redesigns and more on fixing the things people have been complaining about for years. According to a new report from TechManiacs, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup could bring larger batteries, slimmer bodies, and even a new wider version of the Fold.

The regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly getting thinner again, measuring around 4.1mm when unfolded, down slightly from the Z Fold 7’s 4.2mm thickness. Weight is also said to drop to roughly 210 grams, compared to 215 grams on the current model. Together, these changes should make the phone feel a bit less bulky in everyday use. Samsung foldables have improved steadily in this area, but Chinese brands like Honor and Huawei have been moving much faster lately, so the pressure is clearly there.

Battery life may finally see a meaningful upgrade too. The Fold 8 was previously tipped to jump from the Fold 7’s 4,400mAh battery to a larger 5,000mAh unit, along with faster 45W charging. That may not sound huge on paper, but Fold users have been asking for better battery endurance for a long time.

The more interesting leak, though, is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. Samsung reportedly is testing a wider foldable with a 7.6-inch inner display using a near-square 4:3-style aspect ratio. In other words, something that feels more like a small tablet when opened instead of the tall, narrow Fold design Samsung has used for years.

Samsung may drop the telephoto camera entirely and stick to a simpler dual 50MP setup. The saved space seemingly goes toward the battery, which is tipped to reach 4,800mAh — around 400mAh larger than the 8.0-inch Galaxy Z Fold 7.

If these reports turn out to be accurate, the Fold 8 series may end up being less about flashy new features and more about finally catching up in areas users actually care about.

The leak also mentions possible upgrades such as new camera sensors, a bigger battery, and a thinner body.

However, the tipster also raised concerns regarding Samsung’s final approach. There are worries that the company could change the original concept during development or position the phone somewhere between the Plus and Ultra models. Cost-related decisions may also reportedly affect hardware choices and the overall identity of the Pro model.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is also expected to receive major changes. According to the leak, Samsung may finally upgrade the physical rear camera sensors and redesign the camera layout on the back panel.

A recent report claimed that Samsung may scrap the 3x telephoto lens from the S27 Ultra, which indicates that it could feature a triple-camera setup on the back. This may possibly allow the Ultra flagship to sport a horizontal camera bar design, as shown in the AI-based render above.

The new leak further states that the S27 Ultra will house a larger battery while reducing overall weight. However, the thickness of the device may remain largely similar to current Ultra models.

The leak also claims that Samsung could continue using existing display materials on the Galaxy S27 Ultra because of production costs. Some display-related upgrades may reportedly focus more on software optimization rather than entirely new panel technology. The tipster also suggested that exterior design changes and weight reduction efforts could be limited by manufacturing expenses.

While these details are still based on early leaks, the possibility of a compact Galaxy S27 Pro and a redesigned Ultra model could make Samsung’s next flagship lineup more interesting than previous generations.

According to Samsung’s Security Updates page, the May 2026 security patch for Galaxy devices includes fixes for a total of 37 vulnerabilities. It includes 30 fixes from Google, which include 2 critical-level fixes, 27 high-level fixes, and 1 fix doesn’t apply to Samsung devices. The latest security patch also contains seven Samsung-specific fixes (SVEs).

Samsung’s software team is likely extremely busy at this point. The One UI 8.5 stable rollout is ongoing, and the One UI 9.0 beta program has also begun recently. The company is rumored to have also begun working on One UI 9.5.

With a lot of work in progress, it’s not surprising to see a delay in the monthly security update release. Anyway, the May security update has started to expand to more Galaxy devices, and we’ll likely see it rolling out to other devices at a better pace from here on.
