Sony has revealed that the company plans to expand its Chinese game incubation business, which is also known as China Hero Project. The company is planning to increase investment for incubating new games and developers in the region.

As per the report coming from Reuters, Sony is planning to invest one million yuan or about $140,000 in each China-developed game that the company incubates through its programs.

The development of increasing efforts by Sony in the Chinese market comes at a time when Microsoft is actively pursuing Chinese developers, and Reuters claims that Sony plans to go head-to-head with the Xbox maker in the country.

Previously, games incubated by Sony under China Hero Project received financial and development support, but the games weren’t published by the company. But now, as per the report, Sony aims to support Chinese games through PlayStation Studios and is aiming to publish games, starting with Lost Soul Aside.

So far, the company has supported 17 small-scale games alongside striking successful deals like Genshin Impact. By investing heavily in incubating new games and developers, the company plans to achieve its goal of selling twice the PS5 models in China than the PS4 models.

It’s been quite some time since Sony launched its latest generation of PlayStation gaming console — Sony PS5. In fact, the company is gearing up to launch a new slimmer version next year.

Izumi Kawanishi, President of Sony Honda Mobility, which was established in September, has said that it is technically possible to integrate PlayStation 5 platform in their cars. However, he has not provided more information about this integration or if they have actually tried doing it.

He says that the companies plan to use music, movies, and gaming to build electric cars built around a premium entertainment experience. He further added that “Sony has content, services, and entertainment technologies that move people. We are adapting these assets to mobility, and this is our strength against Tesla.”

Kawanishi says that Tesla isn’t providing any content services, which could mean that the company is planning to focus more on the entertainment part for the upcoming cars.

Sony has just recently started shipping new models of the PlayStation 5 in India. These new models of the popular gaming console are more power efficient and lighter than the original launch versions. So here’s all the details.

Previously, we had reported on the Japanese tech giant rolling out new models of the PS5 console. Now, it appears that the company is launching the same models in India as well. For those unaware, the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) has approved the new PS5 CFI-1208A and CFI-1208B models. In other words, we can expect the new game consoles to make its way to India with an upcoming local restock.

For those unaware, the new PS5 CFI-1200 series comes with an overhaul in the internal design. These changes makes the newer PS5 models more power efficient while also helping offer better thermal performance as well. This is made possible due to a new and smaller motherboard and improved cooling system that consists of an additional heat pipe and a smaller heatsink. Thanks to these changes, the newer PS5 variants is around .45 kilograms lighter than the original launch events.

Sony has stated that it plans on raising the production of its PlayStation 5 gaming console. The announcement arrives as the issues with the supply chain subsides. The good news doesn’t just stop there, as the company also revealed that it plans to expand its PS5 games portfolio as well.

Despite the PS5 console launching back in November 2020, the Japanese tech giant has been struggling with its production due to the ongoing global chip shortage and other supply constraint issues. Although, the company plans on closing the gap year three and even plans to overtake the PS4 install base by the next year. Furthermore, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan stated that “we’re planning for heavy further increases in console production, taking us to production levels that we’ve never achieved before.”

This news arrives despite the COVID-19 lockdowns in China, but the executive stated that “things are definitely improving.” The brand has also projected that the sales of PS5 hit 18 million units in the financial year end in March compared to 11.5 million units from a year earlier. Notably, Sony is also moving away from its sole focus on single player titles that are exclusive on its platform.

Now, it would work on more PC and mobile titles and will even offer live service games that will make up almost half of all new titles in 2025. Sony has just launched a new system software beta for the PS4 and PS5 which brings many quality of life changes to the operating system along with some new features. The most intriguing out of these is the voice command preview which will enable users to use voice commands on their Playstation 5 consoles pretty much like a voice assistant. So let’s check out all the changes that come with the new software beta.

New Party Chat Options

Open and Closed Parties (PS5 and PS4 betas)

• When you start a party, you can now select either an open party or a closed party:
  • An open party lets your friends see and join the party without an invite. Friends of party members can also join.
  • A closed party is only for players you invite

Voice chat reporting feature update (PS5 beta)

• If you want to report something that someone in a party said, there are now visual indicators for you to identify who was speaking. This will help PlayStation Safety take appropriate action based on your report.

• Share Play update (PS5 beta)
  • Start Share Play directly from the voice chat card. You no longer need to start Share Screen first to use Share Play.

• Voice chat volume (PS4 beta)
  • You can now individually adjust the voice chat volume of each player in a party on PS4, just like on PS5.

New PS5 UI Features

• Filter by genre
  • Playstation has added an option to filter your game collection by genre, letting you quickly find specific types of game experiences.

• Keep in Home
  • You can now keep the games or apps you choose on your home screen by selecting “Keep in Home” with the (options) button.
  • You can keep a maximum of five games and apps on each home screen with this feature.

Voice Command (Preview)

• Playstation is testing the voice command feature on PS5 consoles for finding and opening games, apps, and settings, as well as controlling media playback.
• To get started, enable Voice Command (Preview) from the Settings menu. Then, call out “Hey, PlayStation!” and ask your PS5 console to find a game, open an app or setting, or control playback while enjoying a movie, TV show, or song.
• Do note that this feature is currently available in English for beta participants with accounts registered to the U.S. and U.K.
  

PlayStation has confirmed the final system software updates will be available globally later this year. Players selected to participate in the betas will receive email invitations when the updates are available to download tomorrow. Last year, Sony launched its next-generation gaming console — Sony PlayStation 5, starting with the United States and Japan in November, and later it was made available in more regions the same month.

Now, the Sony PS5 has officially become the fastest-selling console in US history. According to the analysis by NPD Group, the latest console tops the charts in terms of both units sold and “dollar sales” since its release five months ago.

NPD Executive Director Mat Piscatella said that the Nintendo Switch has become the highest-selling hardware platform in the first quarter of this year while the PlayStation 5 from Sony ranked the first in the United States in terms of sales value.

The data shows that the overall gaming hardware sales in the March of this year were 47 percent higher when compared to the same period last year, setting a record of $680 million. The total amount spent this year is $1.4 billion, representing an increase of 81 percent over the same period last year.

As for the latest PlayStation, Sony believes that as of 31st March 2022, the company can sell more than 12.8 million units of the PS5, exceeding the sales of the PS4 in the second year of its release.

Sony also led in terms of accessories sales, with the PS5 DualSense controller being the leading accessory in dollar sales for March and the first quarter of 2021.

In related news, the Japan-based company rolled out a new PS5 update earlier this week that enables extended storage for the console and One-Touch Play, which turns the TV on when the console is turned on. It also gives players the ability to see their controller’s battery percentage while charging, and 120Hz support for “some” 1080p/120 Hz PC monitors, allowing 120fps gameplay.

After Sony launched its next-generation gaming console Sony PlayStation 5 in select regions like the United States and Japan on 12th November, the company finally made it available in more regions on 19th November.

Hong Kong was one of the countries where the Sony PS5 was launched yesterday. While the devices are launched in several countries, the company is struggling to meet the demand, and that has caused price inflation.

As per the reports, in Hong Kong, the PlayStation 5 is being sold for as much as HK$7,980, which is approximately $1,029 by resellers. This is twice the cost of the console, which is priced at $499 for the standard model.

With the on-going holiday season, it seems that the situation related to PS5 won’t get better anytime soon, not until Christmas. However, the shortage of newly launched gaming consoles isn’t new but COVID-19 has worsened the situation as the pandemic has significantly impacted the supply chain.

It comes packed with 825GB of SSD storage that has 5.5GB/s throughput. Users will be able to expand the storage using Sony-certified M.2 SSD, but the company has confirmed that it will be available sometime in the future but not at the time of launch.

The difference between the Standard Model and the Digital Edition is that the digital model lacks Disc Drive that supports 4K UHD Blu-ray. The Sony PS5 supports up to 8K output and promises 4K graphics at up to a 120Hz refresh rate.

Last week, Sony officially started selling its latest gaming console — Sony PlayStation 5 in a few countries, including the United States and Japan. Now, the company is all set to start selling the PS5 in Europe from 19th November.

Now, ahead of the Sony PlayStation 5 going on sale in the European market on 19th November, Amazon has sent out emails to customers in the UK, Spain, and Italy and has confirmed that it will have more stock from 12PM GMT on 19th November.

It’s noteworthy that the units ordered on 19th November in Europe won’t arrive on the launch day. Instead, once the order is placed, the online retailer will send an email to the customer with an estimated delivery date.

As for its pricing in the European market, the Standard Model of PS5 is priced at £450 (€500, $500, AU$750) while the PS5 Digital Edition costs £360 (€400, $400, AU$599).

The newly released gaming console by Sony, PlayStation 5 has been hit by a bug that prevents a smooth download of games and apps. This download glitch is reflected in the prompt “Queued for Download” or error state whenever a user wants to make a download. For now, the only temporary solution is to reset the console to factory settings.

The glitch has been experienced by several users of the console, and it is reported that it occurs when the console is set for its first download. It is reported that there is either an error in the download or the game or app being chosen by the user for download will show the message: Queued for Download. Both notifications give a prompt to check the Downloads menu, which remains empty.

As a fallout of this download glitch, the console becomes annoyingly stuck and temporarily demobilized with respect to the download. A check on the PS5 library will show that the user owns the game/app while the PS5 Store still says the user is yet to purchase the app/game.

Some of the popular games affected by these download glitches are Godfall, Spider-Man, Demon’s Souls, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (the earlier PS4 version could be downloaded without any hitches) and the Disney+ app, among others. 

From the reports thus far, the download glitches only affected games and apps that were specific to the PS5.

Sony has not released any statement yet on the issue. But Activision publisher of Call of Duty recommends a factory reset for any user who encounters this bug. This solved the problem for many of the users. Of course, undertaking a factory reset wipes the console clean, meaning one has to download his games afresh, as well as begin playing from scratch. However, for now, this seems the only way out of the problem.

Sony has today released its highly-anticipated gaming console — Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5). The device, successor of the seven-year-old PS4, is now available for purchase in major regions. The launch comes just a couple of days after Microsoft started selling its latest gaming console — Xbox Series X.

The Japanese company has released both the new devices — PlayStation 5 Standard Edition and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. While the standard edition costs $499, the digital edition is a bit cheapest, costing $399.

Pre-orders for the Sony PS5 units started in September and were quickly sold out. The company has said that this latest-generation gaming console won’t be available in-store on the launch day and will be available through online sales only.

As for the availability in the United States, the listing of PS5 on Target says that it’s “only available with Drive Up or Order Pickup services.” On the other hand, Walmart has announced that consoles will be “online at 12PM, 3PM, 6PM, 9PM ET.” It will also be available for purchase through NewEgg, Amazon, and GameStop.

Sony seems to be expecting a big sales boost given the holiday season release of the PlayStation 5 and the amplified demand for stay-at-home entertainment amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, the company had said that it expected to sell more than 7.6 million units of the PS5 by the end of March 2021.

On the other hand, UK-based data analytics company Ampere Analysis predicts that Sony could sell around 17.9 million units of the PS5 consoles by the end of 2021 and more than 67 million units by 2024.

Sony is all set to launch its next-generation gaming console — Sony PlayStation 5 (aka PS5) during the holiday season this year. Ahead of that, the company has already revealed some key details about the console.

Now, the connectivity features of the upcoming Sony PS5 have been leaked online. The report coming from Brazil-based Tecnoblog reveals that the console will come with support for the latest Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5.1.

The support for Wi-Fi 6 is definitely an upgrade given that the PS4 supports Wi-Fi 4 while the PS4 Pro supports Wi-Fi 5. The sixth-generation of Wi-Fi is capable of a maximum throughput of 9.6 Gbps across multiple channels, which is around 32 times faster than the Wi-Fi 4 support present in the PlayStation 4.

Although Bluetooth 5.2 is the latest version out there, Sony has opted for a slightly older version — Bluetooth 5.1. However, this is also a great improvement over Bluetooth 2.1 in PS4 and Bluetooth 4.0 in PS4 Pro.

Sony had recently announced a PlayStation 5 event on 4th June where the company was set to unveil the new set of games coming to the next-generation gaming console. However, the PS5 event has now been postponed.

Making this announcement to postponed the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for 4th June, the company said: “While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

The company is referencing to the protests in the United States and around the world in response to the death of Geroge Floyd, which has now escalated significantly. Sony has not yet revealed a new date for the event but we expect to get that information soon, probably in the coming days.

As said, Japan-based Sony had scheduled an event for this Thursday which was for more than an hour to give us a look at the games that we’d be able to play when the PlayStation 5 launches this holiday season.

The claim is further supported by a patent on WIPO which indicates that Sony is putting in a microphone on the controller, making the device capable of interpreting commands and requests while it is in use. This is similar to the functionality of smart speakers like Amazon Echo with Alexa support.

But it remains to be seen how powerful this new smart voice commands-based system will be for the controller and what functionalities will it support. We expect to know more about this ahead of the Holiday 2020 launch.
