As 2026 gets closer, home internet use is evolving quickly. Homes now stream more high-resolution content, depend on cloud services for work and gaming, and connect many devices at once. Wi-Fi 6E improved performance by opening the 6 GHz band, but Wi-Fi 7 is already appearing in new routers and devices. With faster internet plans and growing network congestion, the real question is whether users should upgrade now or if Wi-Fi 6E will still be sufficient for the next few years.

HUAWEI WiFi Mesh X3 Pro (Wi-Fi 7)

What Wi-Fi 7 Brings Over Wi-Fi 6E

Wi-Fi 7 brings several upgrades that help increase capacity and reducing congestion. It supports channel widths of up to 320 MHz, doubling what Wi-Fi 6E offers. Wider channels allow more data to move simultaneously, improving performance when multiple devices are active. Wi-Fi 7 also increases modulation efficiency, allowing each signal to carry more data, which boosts overall throughput.

Multi-Link Operation and Lower Latency

One of the most practical improvements in Wi-Fi 7 is Multi-Link Operation. This feature lets compatible devices use multiple frequency bands at the same time instead of relying on a single connection. The result is lower latency, faster response times, and more stable connections, especially in homes with heavy network traffic. For gaming and real-time communication, this leads to fewer lag spikes and connection drops.

Real-World Benefits for Streaming and Gaming

For basic use, Wi-Fi 6E already handles 4K streaming and video calls reliably. Wi-Fi 7 becomes more noticeable in homes with several users streaming high-quality content at once or downloading large files. Online gaming benefits from reduced latency, while cloud gaming and high-frame-rate streaming see smoother performance when network traffic increases.

Smart Homes and Multiple Connected Devices

Modern homes often include dozens of connected devices, from cameras and speakers to appliances and sensors. Wi-Fi 7 improves how networks handle many active connections at once, reducing slowdowns caused by congestion. This makes it better suited for large smart homes or households planning to add more connected devices over time.

Cost, Compatibility, and Upgrade Timing

Wi-Fi 7 routers still cost more than comparable Wi-Fi 6E models, and support across devices is not yet widespread. While these routers work with older phones, laptops, and tablets, you only get the full performance gains when paired with Wi-Fi 7-enabled devices.

At the entry level, Wi-Fi 7 routers start at about $100 to $120. Models such as the TP-Link Archer BE3600 offer advertised speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps. For larger homes or office setups, mesh systems like the TP-Link Deco BE25 three-pack are priced from around $180.

Higher-end Wi-Fi 7 routers with faster throughput, such as up to 6.5 Gbps, and added features like 10GbE ports, are typically priced between $180 and $400 or more.

Who Should Upgrade and Who Should Not

Should upgrade now:

Households on multi-gigabit internet plans that want to use that speed over Wi-Fi.

Large homes with many simultaneous users who stream, game, or work from home.

Users who move large files over the local network often, such as content creators editing video.

Early adopters who want the longest practical future proofing and who do not mind paying a premium.

Should not upgrade now:

Users with sub-gigabit internet or a single household user who streams and browses.

People on a tight budget who can get all needed performance from a good Wi-Fi 6E router.

Homes where most client devices do not yet support Wi-Fi 7 and will not for some time.

Conclusion

Wi-Fi 7 brings real technical gains that matter most under heavy load and for future high-bandwidth uses. For many households, Wi-Fi 6E still delivers excellent performance today. If you have fast internet, many users, or plan to keep your router for several years, Wi-Fi 7 is a sensible upgrade. If your needs are modest, you can wait and buy a cheaper Wi-Fi 7 system later when prices and device support improve.

Asus GS-BE18000 Specifications

The GS-BE18000 supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be) and delivers tri-band speeds of up to 18,000Mbps. It distributes bandwidth across the 2.4GHz (688Mbps), 5GHz (5,765Mbps), and 6GHz (11,529Mbps) bands.

The router supports advanced features such as 320MHz channel bandwidth, 4K-QAM modulation, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which improve throughput and reduce latency. Asus also includes Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) to extend 6GHz signal range by adjusting power output based on local interference.

The router uses eight internal antennas and ten front-end modules to optimize coverage. Asus claims a coverage area of up to 3,300 square feet, which suits large homes or multi-device environments. It features a 2.0GHz quad-core processor that powers the device alongside 2GB of DDR4 RAM and 256MB of flash storage, allowing it to manage high network loads during gaming and media streaming.

The GS-BE18000 features a total of eight 2.5GbE RJ45 ports, one for WAN and seven for LAN, supporting up to 20Gbps of wired data throughput. Two LAN ports are prioritized for gaming, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port allows users to connect 4G/5G dongles or external storage.

The router supports Asus AiMesh, allowing users to integrate it into a larger mesh Wi-Fi network. The Smart AiMesh engine uses MLO to improve mesh routing and maintain low latency. Users can control and monitor the network using the Asus Router app, which includes tools such as Adaptive QoS, traffic analyzer, parental controls, and VPN Fusion.

Asus includes AiProtection Pro powered by Trend Micro to handle network security. This service blocks malicious sites, isolates infected devices, and monitors threats in real-time. The router also supports multiple VPN protocols including OpenVPN, IPSec, and WireGuard.

Asus has added several gaming-focused features. These include ROG First for prioritizing ROG gaming devices, Game Boost for traffic acceleration, and Mobile Game Mode for reducing latency on phones. The router also features customizable RGB lighting, with multiple effect modes controlled via the app.

Pricing and Availability

Asus has not officially announced global pricing or availability, but the ROG Strix GS-BE18000 is already listed on Best Buy in the US for $449.99.

In related news, ZTE has introduced the U60 Pro, a compact 5G hotspot featuring a 10,000mAh battery, Wi-Fi 7 support, and built-in NFC. Meanwhile, Asus has launched the RT-BE82U Wi-Fi 7 router, which offers speeds up to 6500Mbps, supports AiMesh for flexible network expansion, and includes enhanced security features.

Huawei is giving the humble home router a serious glow-up with its new X1 series, and it’s more than just about raw speed—it’s about how a router fits into your life. The freshly launched Huawei Router X1 and X1 Pro bring Wi-Fi 7 to your living room, wrapped in a sleek, modern design that’s meant to sit out in the open, not gather dust behind your TV. These aren’t just network tools—they’re smart, stylish hubs designed to handle everything from gaming marathons to smart home setups.

Huawei Router X1 and X1 Pro Specifications

The standout feature here is Huawei’s own Lingxi Antenna system. Instead of the usual cluster of spiky external antennas, the X1 routers use a clean cylindrical design that hides 11 internal antennas. This setup delivers 360° omnidirectional coverage and uses smart antenna scheduling to actively direct the signal toward wherever you are in the house. It’s not just prettier—it’s smarter, too.

Under the hood, both models run on Huawei’s custom Lingxiao chip, which includes a high-performance CPU, AI neural engine, and a network acceleration unit. That means AI-powered signal tuning, faster multitasking, and stable connections even when the whole house is online. You also get four power amplifiers (PA+LNA) to push strong signals through thick walls.

On the connectivity side, the routers support Wi-Fi 7 features like Multi-Link Operation, letting devices use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands at the same time for more speed and stability. They also include tech like 4K QAM and Multi-RU scheduling to better manage bandwidth, and Preamble Puncture, which cleverly routes your data around interference like a traffic Waze for your Wi-Fi.

As for ports, the base X1 comes with two 2.5G Ethernet ports, while the X1 Pro bumps that up to four, perfect for wired connections to your gaming rig, PC, or NAS. Both routers support Huawei’s StarLight gateway, offering tight integration with HarmonyOS devices like smart locks, sensors, and cameras. Basically, if your home’s getting smarter, this router is ready for it.

Gamers aren’t left out either. The built-in Game Turbo mode recognizes over 160 popular titles and optimizes the connection to cut latency by as much as 37%. HarmonyOS 4 integration also makes device setup easier, adds powerful parental controls, and even offers visual network diagnostics for over 80 common issues—so fixing Wi-Fi problems doesn’t require a tech degree.

Pricing and Availability

Talking about the pricing, the standard Router X1 starts at 599 yuan (around $82), while the higher-end X1 Pro comes in at 899 yuan (approximately $125). Pre-orders for both models kicked off today at 2:30 PM in China, with the first official sale scheduled for 10:08 AM on April 25. Both models will be available through Huawei’s online store and authorized retailers.

In related news, TP-Link recently introduced the TL-WR3002X, a high-speed Wi-Fi 6 travel router, while Asus has launched a new Wi-Fi 7 gaming router featuring nine 2.5G ports.

Every year, Apple launches a new iPhone lineup that brings new improvements and features over their predecessors. The iPhone 15 series recently launched with some notable upgrades, and now, we have an idea of certain improvements that will be making their way to the iPhone 16 Pro models.

Upgrades in the Apple iPhone 16 Pro

The news arrives from known analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities. The analyst recently confirmed that the Cupertino based giant will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem in the next gen iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. And now, he has also claimed that there are certain upgrades that will also be making their way to the higher end iPhone 16 Pro series.

Jeff Pu claims that his prediction is based on his sources from Apple’s supply chain. Apart from just taller displays, the company will equip the iPhone 16 Pros with the same 12-megapixel tetra-prism lens as the Pro Max variant for the 5x optical zoom. This telephoto shooter will reportedly be paired with a new 48-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. This will be a notable upgrade from the 12-megapixel ultra wide camera on the current generation iPhones.

Lastly, Jeff Pu stated that the iPhone 16 Pro lineup will support Wi-Fi 7 standard, which can offer data speeds of up to 46Gbps. Other notable features of the new iPhone 16 Pro models include the 3nm based A18 Pro SoC, 8GB of RAM, and the faster Qualcomm 5G modem.

The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is set to launch on August 16 in China. According to previous reports, the smartphone is developed to be a cost-effective variant of the OnePlus 11. As the launch date draws near, a new teaser has emerged online revealing that the OnePlus Ace 2 pro will support the Wi-Fi 7 protocol. Check out the details below.

According to the post, we have found that the new Ace 2 Pro will be equipped with Wi-FI 7 protocol which will provide a much faster Wi-Fi speed and increased bandwidth, making the device easy to run at full network speed. One thing to note is that Wi-Fi 7 has not been officially released yet, but as per the teaser, OnePlus Ace 2 Pro will be a future-proof smartphone that will support Wi-Fi 7.

What is Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-Fi 7 is the 7th generation of Wi-Fi and is said to be four times faster than its predecessor, Wi-Fi 6E, with reduced latency, increased capacity, and boosted stability. The reduced latency and improved reliability will help with emerging applications like VR / AR, online gaming, remote office, and cloud computing. According to earlier reports, Wi-Fi 7 could be launched in late 2024.

Earlier reports have revealed that the Ace 2 Pro could feature a 6.74-inch 1.5K OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate backed by its 5,000mAh battery with 150W wired charging support. Under the hood, the device is rumored to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip along with 24GB LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. The device is said to have a 50MP primary camera, accompanied by 32MP telephoto shooter and 48MP ultra-wide unit for a premium photography experience.

Apple just recently announced the Vision Pro, which marked its brand new product line and entry into the VR/AR enabled headset market. But with the new headset, it appears that there will be some notable changes coming to its popular iPhone series as well to ensure seamless integration.

Future Apple iPhones to better support Vision Pro headset

According to known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino based giant is working on making its upcoming iPhone models better integrate with the Vision Pro headset. To achieve this, the company will apparently be bringing hardware upgrades to its future iPhones. This move isn’t surprising considering the brand seamlessly connects various products across multiple platforms, ranging from iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and more.

Kuo stated that Apple might soon bring Wi-Fi 7 and UWB (Ultra Wideband) technology to its upcoming iPhone models. This would help them be work better with the new Vision Pro headset. In other words, the iPhone 15 will likely arrive with an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip to offer a robust and seamless connection with the latest entry in the Apple ecosystem. Kuo claims that the new iPhones will arrive with an upgraded version of the U1 chip. For those unaware, this UWB chipset was first shipped inside the iPhone 11.

The new and improved chip would even help bring upgrades to various existing features like AirDrop, Find My, and more. But the primary benefit with the update U1 chip is better integration with the Vision Pro headset. Apart from this, Kuo also believes that the iPhone 16 will be the first smartphone from the company to feature Wi-Fi 7. This wireless tech will enable faster speeds and many other benefits. This is crucial for better virtual and augmented reality experiences. Overall, we can even expect the tech to offer better integration across the multiple platforms.

Xiaomi has announced a new WiFi 7 router at the MWC 2023. This router, equipped with Qualcomm Networking Pro 820 platform, promises strong performance and several exciting features. Here are the details…

BE7000: latest Xiaomi WiFi 7 router with superior performance

According to the latest reports, router (model number: BE7000) is powered by a quad-core A73 1.5GHz processor, with a computing power of up to 28800DMIPS, making it capable of delivering faster speeds and reliable connectivity than most WiFi 6 routers in the market. This router is designed to handle heavy internet traffic, making it perfect for streaming high-quality content, online gaming, and other internet-intensive activities.

Another exciting feature of the BE7000 router is its 4 2.5G ports + 1 USB 3.0. This means that users can connect multiple devices simultaneously without experiencing any lag or buffering issues. One of the most interesting aspects of the BE7000 is its price. Xiaomi has positioned this router as a sub-flagship, and it is expected to cost over 1,000 yuan, making it more affordable than the Xiaomi 10G router, which is priced at 1799 yuan.

The BE7000 router’s release is excellent news for consumers who need reliable and fast internet connectivity for their work and other activities. It is exciting to see Xiaomi continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of routers and networking devices. It is expected to be available in China soon, with no news yet on its international release.

Xiaomi has officially announced that it is planning on bringing an update to the Xiaomi 13 lineup. This update will have its latest flagship series of smartphones receive an upgrade to the new Wi-Fi 7 connectivity standards. So here are all the details.

The Chinese tech giant stated that it will be rolling out a new update for to its high end smartphone models. For those unaware, the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro were launched back in December 2022 with support for only 802.11ax standard, which is the Wi-Fi 6E, despite the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supporting the newer 802.11be Wi-Fi 7 standard. While this isn’t exactly a highlighting feature, other new gen phones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 series were launched with this technology.

Even the new OnePlus 11 features this technology. But fortunately for Xiaomi 13 owners, the brand has announced that it will be releasing an update that will enable the flagship models to support Wi-Fi 7 standards. As per the official announcement on Weibo, the Xiaomi 13 series as well as the Redmi K60 Pro will be capable of supporting the latest wireless connectivity standard. For those unaware, Wi-Fi 7 technology uses 320MHz channels that theoretically offers up to 2.4 times faster speeds its predecessor, the Wi-Fi 6.

Furthermore, the latest technology will also reduce latency to enable support for 4K and 8K video streaming. These benefits will also be reflected in AR/VR applications as well as reaching speeds of at least 30Gb/s or even 40Gb/s. Keep in mind that you need a compatible router to take advantage of this faster speeds.

At a time when the new Wi-Fi-based products are mostly using Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E technology, TP-Link has announced the “world’s first” Wi-Fi 7 router, which is based on the upcoming IEEE specifications.

The newly announced TP-Link Archer BE900 Wi-Fi 7 Router is based on the upcoming standard 802.11BE, which is a successor to the Wi-Fi 6 and 6E and comes with several improvements, including faster speed and reduced latency, among others.

Wi-Fi 7 can also enable a device to connect to two spectrums at a time using Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which means that users can connect the device to 5GHz and 6GHz simultaneously. It has backward compatibility with Wi-Fi 6, 5, and older technologies.

The new technology comes with support for high-capacity channels as wide as 320MHz and to take advantage of this, users will need to have a device with Wi-Fi 7 support. For comparison, Wi-Fi 6E supports channels as wide as 160GHz.

TP-Link Archer BE900 is a flagship quad-band Wi-Fi 7 router that comes with LED lights and a touchscreen. The front can be swiped to show the clock, weather, and wireless stats, among others. It also comes with support for technologies like OpenVPN and a private IoT network for smart devices.

The flagship router supports wireless speeds of up to 24Gbps, which is less than the top speed of 40Gbps supported by Wi-Fi 7. However, the speed is more than double compared to the Wi-Fi 6E router. It offers a combo 10Gb SFP+Fiber WAN option plus an additional 10Gb WAN port, and they can also be used as LAN.

The TP-Link Archer BE900 Wi-Fi 7 Router will be available for preorder from 31st December and will ship in the first quarter of 2023.
The Taiwanese chipmaking giant is just announced that it is working on Wi-Fi 7 chips and also held an inaugural tech demo. According to the company, the new standards would be able to sustain improvements through advancements like multi link operation (MLO) technology. Furthermore, the next generation of Wi-Fi should be able to use new 320MHz channels. The brand has also suggested that users looking to purchase Wi-Fi 7 enabled products should look out for specs like 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM).

These product may also offer multi user resource unit (MRU) features, also rated to address interference. The new standard is estimated to offer a 2.4 times jump in speed over Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. Notably, MediaTek believes that the technology will ship with its latest Filogic Wi-Fi 7 based products sometime next year. In other words, the standard will become the industry norm next year, which is in line with our previous report as well.

According to Alan Hsu, corporate vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Connectivity business at MediaTek, “The rollout of Wi-Fi 7 will mark the first time that Wi-Fi can be a true wireline/Ethernet replacement for super high-bandwidth applications. MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 7 technology will be the backbone of home, office and industrial networks and provide seamless connectivity for everything from multi-player AR/VR applications to cloud gaming and 4K calls to 8K streaming and beyond.”

The upcoming next gen standard of Wi-Fi would arrive with various improvements over the last generation, with James Chen, MediaTek’s Associate VP of Product Marketing, stating that the Wi-Fi 7 would be 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 and 6E standards that are currently available. Apart from just an increase in speeds, the new standard is also claimed to offer much lower latency. This would be especially useful in fields like gaming, with fast paced multiplayer titles requiring milliseconds to be as low as possible.

Image Via AndroidCentral

Furthermore, Chen added that Wi-Fi 7 would “play nice” with your neighbor’s Wi-Fi 7 network as well. To put things simply, it would use new technology to reduce interference from signals outside of your home. Chen did note that while the Taiwanese chipmaking giant will demo the new technology at CES 2022, it is still “very early in the Wi-Fi 7 standardization process.” The official refrained from offering any finer details, although, he did say that we might see a Q2 2022 launch. In other words, we can expect an official release sometime in 2023.

According to a DigiTimes report, the news arrives from industry sources close to the matter. In other words, the chipmaking giants are working on launching their own iterations Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) chips. This upcoming generation of wireless networking cards would be the successors to the Wi-Fi 6 standards and even the Wi-Fi 6 Plus standards as well. As per sources, this includes major firms like Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Broadcom.

All of these companies have known to supply wireless chips to various other OEMs. This includes PC and laptop makers, including Asus, Acer, HP, and others. These chips are also expected to arrive in smartphones, tablets, other products like WiFi routers as well and would likely offer improved wireless data transfer speeds and may even raise the wireless range as well. Unfortunately, this is all the information we have as of right now and we have no finer details regarding this matter. So stay tuned for more updates.
