Realme RMX3999 rear design revealed by FCC

Yesterday, we reported on an upcoming Realme smartphone with model number RMX3999. This device is expected to be identical to Realme C67 5G in terms of specifications.

However, it may not have the same design as per a new finding. The device’s FCC certification reveals that it will look different.

Realme RMX3999

The upcoming Realme RMX3999 will feature a circular camera module like the Realme C67 5G. But the module will be located at the center instead of on the left side.

This means the phone will likely resemble the Realme 12 series. Thus, there’s a chance that it could be the most affordable model in the lineup given its specs.

The handset is tipped to launch in India soon, however, it is yet to be certified by BIS. On the other hand, it has been certified by other agencies, such as Europe’s EEC, Indonesia’s TKDN and SDPPI, as well as TÜV Rheinland.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Realme RMX3999 is expected to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus chip. It will be built around a 6.72-inch FHD+ 120Hz display (LCD).

On the software front, the phone will boot Android 14-based Realme UI 5.0. For biometrics, it will use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Last but not least, the handset will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery and support 45W wired charging.

As of now, we don’t know when this product will be officially unveiled by Realme.

Top 10 Best-Selling Smartphones List is Out, and Apple Holds 7 Spots!

Apple set a new record by securing the top seven spots in the global smartphone sales chart for 2023, a feat that further cements its dominant market position. According to a report from Counterpoint Research, this is the first time a single brand has achieved such a milestone. The report also noted that Samsung claimed the remaining spots in the top ten, marking a slight improvement from the previous year and showcasing the competitive landscape of the smartphone industry.

The 2023 list placed the Apple iPhone 14 at the very top

The iPhone 14 emerged as the year’s star, with significant sales in the US and China, despite its similarities to the previous model. This slight change didn’t deter Apple fans, who were more inclined towards the more feature-rich iPhone Pro variants. Interestingly, the iPhone 15 series, launched later in the year, quickly climbed to the top of the sales charts, which further sheds light on consumer enthusiasm for the latest launches.

Apple

Despite a stable sales performance from Apple, the overall market saw a shift towards higher-end models and a notable increase in smartphone market share, reaching a record 20%. This growth is partly attributed to Apple’s expanding footprint in emerging markets like India and the Middle East, with India notably crossing the 10 million iPhone sales mark for the first time.

A chart showing Share of Global Top 10 Best-selling Smartphones, 2023

Samsung’s presence in the top ten with its A series models highlights the importance of offering value in competitive and diverse global markets. The Galaxy A14 5G, in particular, made a splash in India, becoming the best-selling smartphone of the year.

As we look towards 2024, the focus on streamlined product lines and the anticipated entry of Chinese brands into the top ten list suggest an evolving market. The shift towards 5G-only models indicates a future where high-speed internet connectivity will become the standard, reflecting the industry’s direction towards innovation and improved consumer experiences.

Vivo S18 Diamond Purple color variant launch tipped

The Vivo S18 series made its debut in China in December. It consists of three models, namely Vivo S18, Vivo S18 Pro, and Vivo S18e.

Both ‘vanilla’ and ‘pro’ variants feature an identical design and colors as opposed to ‘e’ version. Now, two months after their launch, the company is about to introduce a new color for the vanilla model.

Vivo S18 Diamond Purple

According to the Chinese media house Whylab, the Vivo S18’s new color variant will be officially called ‘Diamond Purple’. The publication has even shared a teaser poster for this hue, which confirms that it will launch on March 1.

The picture reveals that unlike the original three colors of the phone that have a glass back, this one will flaunt a leather finish. The leather will sport three three-dimensional diamond patterns as found on the Vivo X Flip clamshell foldable smartphone.

Finally, the image says that the device will come with 16GB RAM. This means the new color will likely be limited to the top-end 16GB + 512GB memory configuration which retails at ¥2,999 (~$420).

However, there will not be any difference in specs. The upcoming Diamond Purple variant of Vivo S18 should be identical to the standard three colors in terms of features.

For the unaware, the S18 comes with a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz curved OLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, a 50MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide) dual camera setup on the rear, a 50MP selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 80W wired charging support.

Dimensity 9400 Will Feature Immortalis G9xx Series GPU

Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has shared intriguing details about the chipset. He reports that the Dimensity 9400 has achieved a Geekbench 6 single-core score of 2700, which is a notable 19.3% increase over the Dimensity 9300. Furthermore, its multi-core score reaches 9800, marking a 24.7% improvement. The GPU, equipped with the Immortalis G9xx series, is expected to deliver a framerate of 110fps in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins test at 1440p resolution, an 11.1% improvement from the previous generation’s 99fps.

Dimensity 9400 Specs Leak DCS

Leaks suggest MediaTek will continue to rely on ARM’s CPU and GPU architectures this year. The Dimensity 9400 will benefit from TSMC’s advanced 3nm manufacturing process, promising a 32% boost in power efficiency. Its CPU setup is planned to include one Cortex-X5 prime core, three Cortex-X4 prime cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores—a step up from the Dimensity 9300’s configuration, which was built on a 4nm process.

The chipset is also expected to support advanced memory and AI processing technologies. It will support LPDDR5T RAM, which is crucial for enhancing on-device AI capabilities, potentially outperforming the Dimensity 9300’s 33 billion parameter large language model.

Despite these advancements, MediaTek‘s new chip still faces tough competition, particularly from the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Initial Geekbench comparisons suggest that while the Dimensity 9400 shows considerable improvements, it may not fully surpass the performance benchmarks of its rivals.

Concerns have also been raised about the power consumption and performance of the Cortex-X5 core at different clock speeds. MediaTek is expected to address these issues to find the perfect balance between power and efficiency, ensuring the Dimensity 9400 achieves its full potential.

Apple Doubles iPhone 15 Battery Lifespan Without Any Hardware or Software Updates!

Apple maintains a unique position in the smartphone market by exercising almost complete control over both the hardware and software of its devices. For instance, while Samsung customizes Google’s Android operating system and sources components from manufacturers like Qualcomm, Apple designs much of the iPhone’s hardware and software in-house.

This grants the company exclusive control over its devices. A recent company statement, however, has raised questions. Apple claims the iPhone 15’s battery now offers double the originally promised lifespan, despite no changes to its hardware or software. Here are the details…

Apple Doubles iPhone 15 Battery Lifespan with Mysterious Page Update

Apple has updated the iPhone 15’s battery lifespan information on its support page. The company now states that the phones will retain up to 80% of their original capacity over 1000 charge cycles, doubling the previous estimate of 500 cycles. Moreover, Apple has not released any hardware or software updates. The company retested the iPhone 15 series to reach this conclusion and updated the information accordingly.

However, the timing of this change raises questions. While we’d like to maintain our “faith in Apple’s honesty,” the change aligns suspiciously with the upcoming EU regulations that will assign an energy rating to the battery life of phones. The European Union is introducing new regulations that will assign smartphones energy efficiency ratings from A to G, similar to the system used for refrigerators and washing machines.

These ratings will reflect the phone’s battery life and its overall energy efficiency. So, Apple’s primary goal is to align its phones with European Union standards. These changes will have minimal impact on iPhone users. The expectation of 80% battery capacity after 500 charge cycles still applies to the iPhone 14 series and its predecessors.

Drying Wet iPhone A Bag Of Rice Could Be A Bad Idea, Apple Warns

Modern smartphones despite being water-resistant to a certain level are still prone to malfunctioning in some cases. This is a common problem encountered by everybody that also makes them anxious. As per the plethora of advices available on the internet, the most common one has been to keep wet devices placed in a bag of rice. It does not involve much work and can be simply done at home. However, there’s not much success with this method. Apple has also come out and warned against putting wet iPhones in rice.

Apple warns putting wet iPhones in bag of rice

Apple’s official support documents reveal what to do if the dreaded liquid detection alert pops up on your iPhone. For those unaware, it is a feature on the iPhone XS and later that warns if there’s liquid in the connector port or even on the accessory. The alert also indicates that there could be moisture in the connector. Thus charging and the accessory connection are disabled when everything is dry.

Apple says that users must avoid putting their wet iPhones in a bag of rice. This could potentially allow small particles of rice to damage the device. For years, the household staple was widely the solution to draining waterlogged electronics faster. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant’s warning puts the myth to the bed.

Apple warns against connecting wet iPhone to any accessory or charging it until it’s completely dry. The company advises users to tap on the phone gently against your hand while pointing it down. Then, you have to leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow. Apple says that this method to dry iPhones could take up to 24 hours if the liquid detection alert pops up again.

Apple also warns against extreme measures like usage of hair dryers, compressed air, or inserting cotton swabs for drying wet iPhones.
