The foldable smartphone market is already ushering in some exciting new devices. The Flip and Fold are currently the trending form factors in the foldable market. For so many years, using a power bank on the go has been a pain in my butt, the experience is really anti-portable and inconvenient, and the reason is that power banks nowadays are either too big to be used in that type of situation or even they are small enough, they still need to be jammed in your pocket while traveling.
Whenever you need to use it, you dig into your bag to find it, a very troublesome experience. What annoys me even more about those power banks is that you always need to carry an extra charging cable. It was all really desperate when I was out with the power bank and suddenly realized that the cable had been left at home!
So what I am trying to say is that there has to be an intuitive way to solve this problem, and there is. Now let me introduce a brand-new power bank to you, the Mchaos crossbody power bank with retractable cable. It’s the world’s first truly portable and intuitive power bank that can be attached to your backpack. After I have all the details for you, you can head to the link down below to get to know it more.
Let’s put some power banks with this one side by side, to see how it really helps you with the charging need on the road. This is the Xiaomi 20000mah power bank, it measures 153*72*28, it weighs 448g. Same as most of its kind, it looks and feels like a brick. This one is the 20W power bank, it measures 140*68*15 and weighs 218g, is very light and it is still big. These power banks have been my go-to items when it comes to business trips and daily commutes, but not until I have this one, the Mchaos power bank.
Clearly, it has a very chic design to it, the rectangular shape and skin-friendly surface make holding it extremely pleasant and intuitive. However, it is actually not quite meant to be held in hand anyway, because whenever you go out, you can just grab it and with a simple click, walah, the power bank is just on the backpack. Or if you are a true minimalist and do not carry too many items with you, it can also be attached to your sling.
Wait, it gets even better, there is a shoulder strap prepared for you. If you only need your phone and power bank with you, you can achieve that by using this item. So it really frees your hand entirely, what a genius solution! When it’s hooked here, it looks very versatile, and since it has a unique shape and the colors are bright, it’s like a fashionable item more than just a power bank.
When it comes to putting things in the backpack, every oz matters, this portable power bank measures 153*87*28 mm and weighs 180g, it is definitely very compact. By comparison, it’s smaller and lighter than the previous two we mentioned, it really does not put any extra weight on you. And because the lanyard is short and the buckle is solidly built, once you hang it onto any bags, it does not wobble too much.
Now here comes the best part of the experience: whenever you want to charge your phone or any device, you can simply pull the cable out, plug it in your phone, and there you go! Whenever you don’t need to use it, the cable will snap back and stay in position. It is just like how you would use a tape measure, isn’t it?
The cable is 28 inches or 0.7 meters long, just as long as my arm goes, so it can definitely charge any devices that can be held in your hand. I must say it is very convenient when I need to use my phone while walking, whether I need to check the navigation or take a phone call. Or even if I am waiting for the bus or the metro, and I want to have a 5-minute gaming session, it is the best companion I have ever had. And as a tech reviewer, I also need to do a lot of outdoor photography tests, this power bank supports me a lot, really a lot.
And if you are wondering, what is it like if I am a PEV lover and I want to use it while riding my electric bike? Well, we have tested them, here we have an electric scooter, a motorbike, and another moped. As you can see, all the handlebars of these PEVs are designed within your reach, so the length of the cable is more than enough for this situation. And once your phone is attached to the bikes, they are bundled nice and snug. No matter how the vehicle moves, the cable is flexible enough to keep up with it.
So in order to provide enough juice while maintaining good portability, this power bank houses a lithium cell in it, and the capacity rated at 5000mAh, it can charge most electronic devices at least 1-3 times, sustainable for a full day use in some senses. It uses a Type-C connection, and it supports 20W fast charging.
As you can see, it also has the top level of charging compatibility. With the exception of OPPO and vivo, which may charge slower, other phones can be charged at almost full power. The PD and QC protocols will also allow you to charge your tablet or laptop. However, I wouldn’t recommend MChaos to charge them as the battery capacity isn’t that big. The only thing that counts as a downside would be the lack of PPS support, but with a 20W maximum power, I don’t think PPS is that important.
For Apple fanboys, the good news is that It can charge an iPhone 14 to 50% in 30 minutes, faster than typical power banks. And you can directly use it with the iPhone 15 series without using an adaptor since the new iPhone has surrendered to the USB-C camp!
When it’s working, there are different colors showing its working status, another delightful feature you will love. What’s creative is that the cable is also an input connector, whenever you need to recharge it, just plug it into the power brick, and then it can be juiced up again.
After using this power bank for a while, I am really amazed by the functionality and convenience it brings, although the retractable cable is not a new idea, once it is combined with the charging needs, it creates a refreshing experience. This product is currently on Kickstarter campaign, with a super early bird price of just 49 US dollars, two colors for your options, if you want to buy it, you can jump to that page by clicking the link down below. Also, if you are interested in some innovative products, you can check out the creator of this product, maybe you will find some surprises.

Three carriers in Finland have suspended the sale of Xiaomi phones in the wake of the brand’s presence in Russia. Telia, DNA, and Elisa are three major carriers in Finland. A recent report monitored in Finland stated that the companies suspended sales in response to Xiaomi’s presence in Russia after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. However, two other retailers, Gigantti and Verkkokauppa said Xiaomi is not in breach of EU laws, so their sales will not be suspended.
Earlier this year, Ukraine’s National Agency of Corruption Prevention declared Xiaomi as an international sponsor of war. This was because of Xiaomi’s active presence in Russia. The Finnish firms have decided to suspend their existing cooperation with the Chinese brand. While they have decided not to sell any new Xiaomi devices, they will sell products already in stock. One of the retailers, DNA says it is not satisfied with Xiaomi’s handling of the situation in Russia. It also affirms that it will not replenish stocks once the current batch is exhausted. The third firm, Elisa is scaling down the range of Xiaomi devices that it will be selling, going forward.
Finland has long had anti-Russian sentiments dating back more than a century. A recent poll estimated that about 76% of the Finns have a negative view of Russia. In addition, about 90% of the population believes that Russia is a threat to global peace. It is unclear what moves Xiaomi is making to shore up its market share in Finland in the aftermath of the suspensions.
According to a recent report, Nokia is rolling out a September security update 2023 for XR21 5G.
For those unaware, the company releases these security patches periodically that are primarily focused on security vulnerabilities rather than performance or stability. The release of these updates depends on the device model, region, and location. Similar to the security patches from the other companies like Samsung and OnePlus.
Nokia XR21 5G
In a recent report by Nokiamob, some of the XR21 users have started receiving the security patch. This security update addresses the issues discovered by Google in the previous patch and has mentioned it on its official security bulletin page. The company has managed to work on these issues, and with the official release, we expect the users to have an improved and safer experience.
It is worth mentioning that the update size is around 63.26 MB and is currently available in Malaysia and the Netherlands. We can expect other markets to receive the update soon. The patch should pop up on the device automatically. However, if you have not received the notification, you can go to Settings > System Update > Check for updates.

BYD, China‘s top electric vehicle manufacturer, is setting a new standard in the luxury off-road SUV segment with the Yangwang U8 Premium Edition. Launched under their high-end sub-brand, Yangwang, the U8 packs a punch with its $150,000 price tag and the kind of features that seem borrowed from science fiction.
The company warns against testing the floating feature for fun though
Imagine you’re off-roading and suddenly find yourself in a flash flood. No worries—the U8 has you covered. This beast of a vehicle can float on water for up to 30 minutes, a feature designed specifically for emergency situations like flash floods. But BYD makes it clear: don’t go testing this feature for fun.
Most luxury SUVs are known for their performance or opulent interiors. But the U8 seems designed to collect superlatives in every category. With its four-motor series plug-in hybrid system, this SUV roars with 1,180 horsepower. It’s not just fast, it’s smart too. Its e4 platform offers four-wheel independent torque vectoring control, enabling the SUV to perform tank turns on both land and water.
As an extended-range electric vehicle, the U8 offers a total range of up to 621 miles, thanks to its 75-liter fuel tank and 49-kilowatt-hour Blade battery. Charging is fast and efficient, taking just 18 minutes to go from 30 to 80 percent. The battery also provides 6 kW vehicle-to-load capacity, ensuring you won’t run out of juice for your gadgets during those extended camping trips.
Off-road performance doesn’t take a back seat. The Yangwang U8 offers angles that outperform competitors like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, making it a true off-roader. It has conquered the world’s tallest stationary sand dune, and offers 15+1 off-road modes to adapt to nearly any terrain.
Inside, the SUV reeks of luxury. With high-end Nappa leather seats, multiple high-tech displays, and even a refrigerator, the U8 makes sure that you experience the wilderness without compromising comfort.
Mark your calendars, the first deliveries in China begin next month. Whether it’s the off-roading capabilities, emergency floating feature, or lavish interiors, the BYD Yangwang U8 seems ready to redefine what a luxury off-road SUV can be.

In a recent turn of events, Qualcomm has started trimming its workforce at its Shanghai office, according to a local report by China Business News. While the U.S.-based chip behemoth didn’t specify the number of layoffs, it dismissed speculation of a large-scale office closure or full exit from Shanghai.
Qualcomm states that the company will now focus on Key Growth & Diversification
The move comes as the company grapples with deteriorating U.S.-China technology relations and economic uncertainties. Interestingly, Qualcomm has substantial operations in China, with offices across 12 cities. The layoffs also come in the backdrop of weakened demand in consumer electronics that caused a revenue slump of 23% year-over-year to $8.45 billion for the three months ending June 25.
An anonymous employee stated that layoffs have begun, but their scale remains limited. The move seems to be a part of the company’s broader restructuring strategy, as revealed in its August stock exchange filing. Qualcomm plans to focus on “key growth and diversification opportunities,” despite the prevailing macroeconomic headwinds and demand fluctuations. It also anticipates that most of these changes will materialize in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Qualcomm’s operations in China are particularly noteworthy because it plays a significant role in developing mobile telecom technology in the country. Moreover, Qualcomm is a key Apple supplier, and the brand’s iPhone 15 launch in mainland China could provide a slight offset to some challenges faced by the company.
The situation echoes the broader trend among U.S. chip companies in China, such as Marvell Technology, which also cut its research and development team earlier this year due to an industrial downturn. China’s smartphone market itself is witnessing a contraction, as data from Counterpoint indicates a 4% year-over-year drop in smartphone sales in the second quarter of 2023—the lowest since 2014.
A report that surfaced in June claimed that Indian smartphone brands, such as Micromax, Karbon, and Lava, are planning to make a comeback in India. Lava is already active, and the brand is all set to unveil its next smartphone, the Lava Blaze Pro 5G, by the end of this month in the country. The Lava Agni 2 5G, which debuted with a price tag of Rs 19,999, has been well-received by both critics and users. Now, a report by TheMobileIndian states that Micromax is planning to make a second comeback in India.
Micromax’s upcoming phone to feature MediaTek chip

To recall, Micromax returned to the Indian smartphone market in 2020 and released a couple of smartphones. However, the brand has remained inactive after launching the Micromax In 2c in April 2022.
The new report states that Micromax is working on a mid-range phone with a price tag of around Rs 15,000 (~$180). The specifications of the device are not known yet, but the publication claims that it will be equipped with a MediaTek chip.
Micromax has been reportedly in talks for the past few months with MediaTek and Qualcomm about procuring a chip to power its next smartphone. However, the Qualcomm deal hit a roadblock due to concerns raised about Micromax’s history of payment delays. Hence, it appears that Micromax will soon strike a deal with MediaTek.
The publication has learned through its sources that the brand was initially aiming to launch a smartphone in December this year. However, since it has not ordered the chipset yet, it seems that Micromax’s comeback device will debut in February or March. The reason behind the delay is due to Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb. 10 next year. Since the phone is expected to launch in 2024, it may arrive as the company’s first 5G smartphone.

As the U.S. government tightens its grip on chip exports to China, Intel emerges as a savior for Chinese firms desperate to fuel their growing large language models (LLMs). According to a report from DigiTimes, Intel‘s Gaudi2 processors have gained significant traction in mainland China since their launch this past July.
The new Intel chips are designed for AI algorithms
Traditionally, Chinese tech firms have relied on Nvidia’s A100 and H100 processors to train their advanced algorithms. However, U.S. export restrictions have hampered the supply, opening a black market for smuggled chips. Intel’s Gaudi2 chips, designed to navigate these export curbs, are offering a legitimate alternative.
David Zinsner, Intel’s CFO, highlighted earlier this month that there’s a growing interest in Gaudi chips due to a shortfall in alternative processors. The chips aren’t just a stopgap; they’re shaping up to be a catalyst in China’s pursuit of AI dominance. In August, the Chinese government approved the launch of its first batch of local LLMs. Names like Baidu’s Ernie Bot and SenseTime’s SenseChat were part of this roll-out. Intel’s Gaudi2 chips offer these companies a viable way to train their AI algorithms, given that they cater to the specific technological constraints imposed by U.S. export laws.
Intel, which last year made 27% of its total revenue in China, seems to have strategically positioned its Gaudi2 processors. At its launch, Sandra Rivera, Intel’s executive vice-president, said that these chips aim to “lower the barrier to entry” and help build up China’s AI capabilities.
Given that China accounted for a third of global semiconductor sales last year, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association, Intel’s focus on mainland clients is both timely and strategic. Amid geopolitical tensions and technological limitations, Intel’s Gaudi2 chips are not just filling a gap; they’re also potentially shaping the future of AI in one of the world’s largest markets.
