OPPO to unveil Xiao Bu AI Assistant powered by AndesGPT

OPPO has announced the launch of an expansive experiential activity featuring its new version of Xiao Bu Assistant, which is built on the company’s large language model, AndesGPT. The updated Xiao Bu Assistant promises to mark a significant advancement in AI conversation technology with enhanced semantic understanding capabilities, the ability to generate content from text prompts, and improved summarization skills.

OPPO Xiao Bu AI Assistant will get large model capabilities

AndesGPT, which forms the core of the upgraded Xiao Bu Assistant, is a large language model developed by OPPO’s Andes Intelligent Cloud team. It operates on a hybrid cloud architecture and has been in development for two years, following a series of self-developed models, OBERT, with different levels of complexity and performance capabilities. The OBERT models boasted parameters ranging from one hundred million to one billion and managed to gain impressive recognition, briefly ranking fifth in the Chinese language understanding benchmark CLUE1.1 and first in the large-scale knowledge graph question-answering KgCLUE1.0 leaderboard.

AndesGPT builds upon the OBERT model, adopting various key technologies that bring about its unique features. This includes continuous learning from Chinese dialogue data, instruction fine-tuning, the incorporation of reinforcement learning with human feedback, and enhancement of the knowledge base. Such a combination of technologies makes it an ambitious project, representing the efforts of OPPO to be at the forefront of conversational AI. Notably, AndesGPT ranked fifth in the C-Eval evaluation rankings in June of this year.

By drawing on the considerable research and development that went into the OBERT models, OPPO has been able to produce a more refined, contextually aware, and responsive conversational assistant.

The move by OPPO aligns with the trend in the tech industry where AI integration is becoming a standard, following other companies like Huawei and Xiaomi.

How to Build Your Own Foldable: JerryRigEverything Shows You How to Assemble the Honor Magic V2

Honor continues to expand its product range. After separating from Huawei, the company returned to the Google ecosystem. They aim to return to their former glory by producing new models whenever possible. A recent example of this is the Honor Magic V2 introduced in July. This foldable device stands out with its ultra-thin and lightweight design, quickly becoming a favorite in the tech media. The latest video about this device was made by JerryRigEverything. However, this time, the video was different than usual. Here are the details…

JerryRigEverything Assembles Honor Magic V2 in New Video

If you love technology, you’ve probably heard of JerryRigEverything before. We often talk about his videos on Gizmochina. For instance, we recently mentioned his durability test on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Now, he’s back with a video about the Honor Magic V2. Those who’ve watched JerryRigEverything know the sequence of his videos. First, he does a durability test, and if the device passes, he films a teardown video. But this time, things were a bit different.

Honor-Magic-V2

Honor sent the phone in pieces, not as a whole. This saved Zack, the channel owner, a lot of work and changed the usual concept a bit. In the video, as you can see, JerryRigEverything is putting together all the parts of the phone and showing us every step. Nowadays, phones are designed not to be opened to save space and keep water out. This makes it harder to fix and for tech lovers like Zack to see inside the devices we’re curious about. If you’d like, we can stop talking now and let you watch the video in peace.

Xpeng X9 Teased With New Spy Photos, Feature More Traditional Headlights, Sleek New Design

Xpeng is expanding its electric vehicle lineup. Even though the company sees its autonomous-driving technology as its main strength against competitors like Tesla and BYD, it doesn’t forget to introduce products for different needs. The latest one is the Xpeng X9. This vehicle is their top SUV and will be launched in the last quarter of 2023. Even though its release is still some time away, new spy photos show a cleaner design, updated headlights, and more. Here are the details…

Xpeng X9 New Photos Out: A Fresh Look Without the ‘Squinty’ Lights

Xpeng Motors has been teasing its upcoming Xpeng X9 SUV for a few months now, and the latest spy shots reveal some design elements. The upcoming vehicle still has the usual Xpeng design on the front. But, the big change is in the headlights. The X9 will have a more traditional headlight design, with larger, round headlights that are separated by a wider grille.

This new design is much more in line with the rest of the Xpeng lineup, and it should help to make the X9 look more premium. At the back, the X9 has a full-length tail light, matching the front light. The back bumper has a special Xpeng look and fits smoothly with the rest of the car, making it look sleek.

Word is, the X9 might be longer than 5.5 meters and almost as wide as 2.3 meters. He Xiaopeng, the CEO of Xpeng Motors, says the X9 is their way of reaching out to younger buyers. We’re still waiting for more details about what’s under the hood. But with all this buzz, everyone’s excited to see how the X9 will do when it hits the streets.

Lei Jun says high-end smartphones are key to Xiaomi’s survival

Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones don’t have the same popularity as its budget and mid-range phones. The company has a reputation for making affordable phones, and it’s having trouble breaking into the high-end market. However, Xiaomi is committed to continuing to develop flagship devices. The company’s CEO says that this is the only way to compete with other major smartphone manufacturers.

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, said in his annual speech today that high-end smartphones are important for the company’s success. He stated, “It’s a do-or-die situation for Xiaomi,” highlighting that in the face of competitors like Huawei, Xiaomi can only secure technological advancements and future growth by focusing on high-end offerings. Lei Jun believes pursuing the high-end market is the sole viable path forward.

Xiaomi-13-Ultra-featured

The executive isn’t wrong since the high-end market is where the most profit is made, and it is also where the most cutting-edge technology is developed. Xiaomi has been making a big push to capture this tier lately. For example, the recent Xiaomi 13 Ultra (review) has everything you need in a smartphone. It’s practically like a point-and-shoot camera with its impressive Leica-tuned sensors.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is the latest example of Xiaomi’s dedication to flagship phones. It debuts as the thinnest foldable smartphone yet, leaving the Honor Magic V2 behind. The device brings a new hinge that is claimed to be more robust than before and a quad-camera setup.

It’s clear that the technology and quality of Xiaomi’s phones are not the reason why it’s lagging behind in the high-end market. It’s safe to say that it’s the brand’s reputation as an affordable smartphone maker that’s keeping consumers from buying its flagships. It might also have something to do with the company’s confusing portfolio in important markets like India.

Electric Vehicle Catches Fire in Middle of The Road, Causing Traffic Jam

Electric vehicle market share is increasing almost every day. Today, many people prefer these vehicles over traditional cars because they are seen as less harmful to the environment and are considered safer due to their advanced technologies. However, what many overlook is that electric vehicles also have their own safety risks. A recent reminder of this happened in China. In Chengdu, an electric car made by Geely and used as a taxi suddenly caught fire in traffic. Here are the details…

Electric Taxi Erupts in Flames in Chengdu, Causing Massive Traffic Jam

Electric vehicle technology is rapidly improving. Companies like Tesla, BYD, Xpeng, Geely, and many others are competing hard to make their cars safer and attract more users. This effort seems to be working. For example, thanks to the collision prevention feature in Tesla models, we often see lives being saved. However, there are still other risks.

For example, electric vehicle batteries are often discussed because they are delicate and dangerous. There were reports that even with improvements, electric cars can still sometimes catch fire, especially after crashes. Most recently, an electric vehicle used as a taxi caught fire. This caused a big traffic jam.

Videos showed very strong flames from the vehicle, with fire going up more than 2 meters. There were also sounds of small explosions. Car parts flew into the air and there was a lot of black smoke. Firefighters came quickly and put out the fire. Luckily, no one was hurt. People think the taxi was from Maple Auto, part of the Geely Auto Group. The company hasn’t said anything about the fire yet. Everyone is waiting for more information.

It’s crucial to remind the public of the intense nature of electric vehicle fires. They can be incredibly fierce, potentially resulting in explosions. Moreover, such fires can emit toxic and harmful gases. Therefore, it’s highly discouraged for onlookers to approach or gather near the site.

Apple M3 chip Macs may come with 12GB base RAM option instead of 8GB

Apple has been actively working on its upcoming M series chips. We have received multiple reports indicating the company will launch highly anticipated Macs equipped with an M3 chip somewhere near October 2023. In the recent Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, the industry specialist revealed some key details about the M3 chip. However, one key detail about the RAM configuration was missed.

M3 with 12GB RAM

In a new tweet, Vadim Yuryev pointed out the missed details regarding the M3 leaks. He pointed out that the upcoming M3 family of Mac chips includes 36GB and 48GB RAM options, which leads us to believe that the base M3 will have 12GB of unified RAM. For those unaware, ever since the launch of M1, Apple has provided 8GB of unified RAM as the starting point, but that is about to change. This could also mean that in the future, Apple might also introduce its MacBooks with a minimum of 512GB storage instead of 256GB.

Additionally, the upcoming M3 Ultra will be equipped with a 32-core CPU containing 24 high-performance cores and 8-high-efficiency cores, which is a significant upgrade compared to M2. For those unaware, the Apple M2 offers a 24-core CPU and a 76-core GPU. The details and key points of the newsletter are covered on our website, so make sure to check it out. It is likely that Apple won’t acknowledge any of these leaked details before the launch. But if these rumors are true, this will be a new era for MacBooks. Stay tuned for more details.
