BYD Proposes $1 Billion Investment for Full Line-up of Electric Cars in India

Chinese automaker BYD has put forth a significant investment proposal of $1 billion to establish manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles (EVs) and batteries in India. This move highlights BYD’s confidence in the growing Indian EV market, which is expected to witness substantial expansion in the coming years.

BYD, known for its expertise in EVs and battery production, already has a presence in India, catering to corporate fleets with its Atto 3 electric SUV and e6 electric sedan. The company aims to launch its first mass-market electric car in India later this year.

To realize its investment plans, BYD has partnered with Megha Engineering and Infrastructures, a Hyderabad-based company, and together they have submitted a joint venture proposal to Indian regulators for approval. The collaboration would enable the local production of electric vehicles in India, contributing to job creation and boosting the country’s EV manufacturing capabilities.

The proposed investment signifies BYD’s commitment to the Indian market and aligns with its strategic expansion goals. By manufacturing EVs and batteries in India, the company aims to tap into the burgeoning demand for electric vehicles and establish a strong foothold in one of the world’s largest automobile markets.

India’s EV sector has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, with increasing awareness about the environmental benefits of electric mobility and the government’s push for cleaner transportation. The Indian government has set an ambitious target of achieving 30% EV sales by 2030 and has introduced various incentives to drive the adoption of electric vehicles. The investment from BYD and its partnership with a local company demonstrates the confidence of global players in India’s potential as a lucrative market for EVs.

If approved, the joint venture would bring advanced EV manufacturing technology, expertise, and employment opportunities to India. It would also contribute to the government’s vision of promoting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions in the country.

Have a Look at the Harley Davidson’s LiveWire S2 Del Mar Electric Motorcycle

LiveWire is an electric motorcycle company that emerged as a spin-off from Harley-Davidson‘s electric division. It specializes in developing and producing cutting-edge electric motorcycles that combine the thrill of traditional motorcycles with the benefits of electric power. The company has recently divulged the highly anticipated specifications for its S2 Del Mar e-motorcycle. Priced at $15,499, this cutting-edge bike has garnered significant attention due to its impressive performance capabilities. Boasting a remarkable acceleration rate of zero to 60 mph in a mere 3.0 seconds, the S2 Del Mar possesses a top speed of 103 mph and generates 84 horsepower (63 kW).

The S2 Del Mar is more of a commuter motorcycle than a long-distance vehicle

Earlier this year, LiveWire provided initial specifications for the S2 Del Mar, but the official details have managed to surpass some of the already heightened expectations. Initially, the company projected a city range of 110 miles; however, the bike now boasts an impressive 113-mile urban riding range on a single charge. Similarly, the acceleration time of 3.0 seconds from zero to 60 mph is slightly faster than the initially advertised 3.1 seconds. Furthermore, the torque rating, previously stated as 184 pound-foot, has been upgraded to an impressive 194 ft-lb.

Harley Davidson

Nonetheless, the S2 Del Mar does come with a slightly increased weight of 436 lbs in running order, compared to the previously announced 431 lbs in April. The Level 2 charging time, required to charge the battery from 20 percent to 80 percent, has been adjusted to 78 minutes, a mere three minutes longer than the initial estimate of 75 minutes. It is important to note that the electric bike does not support fast charging and is limited to Level 1 and Level 2 capabilities. As a result, the S2 Del Mar is primarily designed as a commuter motorcycle, rather than a long-distance touring vehicle. Its highway driving range is rated at 43 miles sustained at 70 mph, with a combined range of 62 miles at a speed of 70 mph (combining highway and city driving). If the speed is reduced to 55 mph, the highway range extends to 70 miles, while the combined range reaches an impressive 86 miles.

Among its notable features, the S2 Del Mar supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, allowing riders to receive the latest enhancements and improvements as they are developed. LiveWire’s website proudly states, “Now your motorcycle can receive updates and improvements as we develop them — keeping things easy, and keeping you riding.” Equipped with a four-inch round screen, the bike seamlessly connects to smartphones via USB-C and offers app-based navigation for added convenience.

Tesla Cybertruck may have Bi-Directional Charging, can Possibly Charge other Teslas

In a recent investor day presentation by Tesla‘s Senior Vice President of Powertrain and Energy Engineering, Drew Baglino, it was confirmed that future Tesla models would incorporate bi-directional charging. This revelation has sparked curiosity among Tesla enthusiasts regarding which model would be the first to receive this feature and the specific type of bi-directional charging it would offer. Interestingly, the Tesla colouring book available at their service centres contains a caption stating, “Cybertruck has enough battery power to charge a Tesla.” While this might seem trivial to kids, it raises big speculations among Tesla fans.

The production version of the Cybertruck may offer a 120V or 240V

The caption further implies the possibility of vehicle-to-vehicle charging, indicating that the Cybertruck may support charging other Teslas, but perhaps not the complete suite of vehicle-to-load (V2L), vehicle-to-home (V2H), and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities. During a recent Cars and Coffee event at the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA, Tesla’s Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen arrived in a Cybertruck, granting enthusiasts a close look at it. The bed showcased a small opening, potentially designed for a socket, as seen in a Twitter video. This suggests that the production version of the Cybertruck may offer a 120V or 240V socket, enabling users to charge external appliances or even another electric vehicle.

Tesla

It is worth noting that rival electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning already offer bi-directional charging capabilities. The Ford truck features Pro Power Onboard, which includes standard 120V outlets and an optional 240V socket, offering a charging rate of up to 9.6 kilowatts. Last year, a user even demonstrated the Lightning’s capabilities by fully charging a stranded Mini Cooper SE while still retaining over 200 miles of remaining range.

With regards to the Cybertruck’s battery size, Tesla’s Master Plan Part 3 suggests a capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours. However, some question whether this would be sufficient for a heavy-duty truck. Competitors such as the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning offer battery packs of 130 kWh or more, raising the possibility of an even larger battery capacity for the Cybertruck. In 2021, CEO Elon Musk responded positively to a Twitter user’s query about whether the Cybertruck’s battery could power their home, further fueling speculation about the truck’s bi-directional charging capabilities.

Reddit Users will lose all Chats and Messages as a part of the New Transition

Reddit, the popular social site known for a wide range of communities and discussions, has recently stirred up some discontent among its users. The company confirmed reports that it has removed all chats and messages before 2023 as part of a transition to a new chat architecture. While Reddit stated that this move would facilitate a smooth transition, many users were taken by surprise when they discovered their message logs had simply vanished without a trace.

There is still a chance that Users can retrieve conversations before 2023

According to Mashable, there may be a glimmer of hope for those yearning to recover their lost conversations. Reddit allows users to request their account data through an online form, and it’s possible that the archive could contain conversations from before 2023. While retrieving these chats may not be as straightforward as before, there remains a possibility that they are not lost forever. Despite this potential avenue for recovery, users are expressing their dissatisfaction with Reddit’s handling of the situation. The lack of direct notification to community members about the removal of chat history meant that some users were caught off guard, unable to back up their message logs on their own terms.

Reddit

The unrest among Reddit users is not only limited to the loss of chat history. The platform has been grappling with a lot more backlash recently. Various subreddits staged a blackout to protest new policies that hindered the functionality of third-party apps like Apollo. Additionally, Reddit has announced plans to phase out its existing coin system, which is used to recognize exceptional contributors. The move to retire this system and replace it with something simpler and more direct has raised concerns among long-time users who have grown accustomed to the specific awards and medals associated with Reddit’s unique culture.

Reddit, just like Twitter, is going through a hard time right now. To address these changes and user concerns, the company will have to make some drastic changes in the near future.

Elon Musk’s Twitter sues four individuals for illegal data scrapping

Elon Musk has been serious about putting an end to data scraping. In early July, the billionaire imposed temporary Tweet limits “to address extreme levels of data scraping and platform manipulation.” Now, Musk’s X Corp. is suing four unnamed individuals over allegations of illegal data scraping from Twitter. Filed in a Dallas County, Texas, court on July 6, the lawsuit seeks over $1 million in damages.

Twitter is not amused by data scraping

As reported by CNBC, X Corp., the parent company of Twitter, sued four unknown individuals last week over data scraping. Musk’s company seeks more than $1 million in damages for “unlawfully scraping data associated with Texas residents,” according to the report. The filing of the case states that the defendants allegedly contracted with operators of data-processing facilities in Dallas County, Texas.

Twitter

According to the filing, the company has been unable to determine the identity of the individuals. However, in place of names, attorneys for X Corp. have provided a list of four IP addresses.

For the unknown, data scraping is a technique where a computer program extracts data from a website or other online source. This data can then be used for a variety of purposes, such as market research, price comparison, or even social media monitoring.

Elon Musk put the kibosh on data scraping by limiting how many tweets users could read each day. Unverified accounts were capped at a measly 600 posts, while verified (read: paid) accounts were allowed to view a generous 6,000 tweets. The defendants in this lawsuit were apparently responsible for those limits. “These requests have severely burdened X Corp’s servers. and degrading the user experience for millions of X Corp.’s customers,” the suit says.

Live images of Infinix Nothing Phone (2) lookalike show it’s not half bad

In a juicy new leak, a tipster revealed yesterday that Infinix is working on a phone that looks like the Nothing Phone (2). The source also shared a schematic image of the alleged handset, which showed LED light markings on its back. Until now, this was just a rumor, but now live images of this purported smartphone have appeared online. The images show that the phone does indeed share some similarities with Nothing’s phone. Let’s have a look at the details.

Infinix GT 10 Pro+ is what the company calls it

Infinix is reportedly preparing a new GT series of gaming-centric smartphones for the Indian market. The lineup will include at least two phones: the Infinix GT 10 Pro and the Infinix GT 10 Pro+. While the Pro model is unremarkable, the Pro+ is more interesting. According to live images shared on Weibo, the Infinix GT 10 Pro+ will have a transparent back, similar to the Phone (2).

The back of the device features random orange patterns and a C-shaped marking, which may be for LED lights. The phone seems to take some inspiration from the Phone (2), but Carl Pei probably won’t need to call his lawyers. The Infinix smartphone doesn’t look bad at all, and it even resembles gaming phones like the recently launched Red Magic 8S Pro.

The leaked images also reveal most specs of the two phones (Via The Tech Outlook). Both GT 10 Pro phones get a Full HD+ display, 5000mAh battery, and 108MP main cam on the rear. They also get a 32MP selfie camera. The Pro model packs the Dimensity 1300 chip with 8 GB + 8GB (virtual) RAM and 256 GB storage. The Infinix GT 10 Pro+, which should be a more premium offering, boasts the Dimensity 8050 chipset. Both models run XOS 13.0, based on Android 13.

The competition in the electric vehicle market is heating up, as more and more automakers are introducing new models. In order to win market share, companies are increasingly looking to join forces. This is what Geely and Volvo have done with the Polestar 5. The two companies unveiled their new flagship electric sports sedan at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Here are the details…

Polestar 5 Unveiled: A High-Performance Electric Sedan for the Luxury Market

The Polestar 5 is a high-performance electric sports sedan that was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2023. The car is based on the Polestar Precept concept car, which was first shown in 2020. The production version retains many of the Precept’s design features, including its sleek, aerodynamic bodywork, its distinctive L-shaped headlights, and its frameless door handles. The Polestar 5 is also slightly larger than the Precept, with a longer wheelbase and a wider track.

Under the hood, the Polestar 5 is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces 874 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. The car is equipped with an 800-volt electrical architecture, which allows it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Polestar has not yet released any information about the Polestar 5’s range, but it is expected to be comparable to other luxury electric sedans.

The Polestar 5’s interior is also designed to be luxurious and high-tech. The car features a minimalist dashboard with a large touchscreen infotainment system. The seats are upholstered in sustainable materials, and the cabin is filled with ambient lighting. The Polestar 5 is a significant milestone for Polestar, as it is the company’s first all-electric vehicle. The car is also a sign of Polestar’s ambition to become a major player in the luxury electric vehicle market. With its sleek design, powerful performance, and luxurious interior, the Polestar 5 is sure to be a hit with consumers.

The collaboration between Geely and Volvo is a sign of the growing importance of the electric vehicle market. In order to compete with Tesla and other established automakers, companies need to join forces and pool their resources. The Polestar 5 is a prime example of what can be achieved when two companies work together.

The Polestar 5 is expected to start at around $75,000 when it goes on sale later this year. It will be available in select markets around the world.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE Also Surfaces In Leaked Renders

Earlier today, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus surfaced in CAD-based renders. Now, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE has also been spotted in CAD-based leaked renders. They have been shared by reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka onleaks). The renders give us a first look at the upcoming tablet. Read on to know more.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE leaked renders

The CAD-based leaked renders reveal the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE with a boxy design. It has a single protruding camera sensor on the back panel and there is no LED flash unit. There is also a vertical strip running below the camera sensor suggesting that the tablet will support S-Pen. The power and volume rocker buttons are located on the right side with the former likely doubling up as a fingerprint scanner.

On the front, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE has thick and symmetrical bezels on all four sides. It will reportedly feature a 10.9-inch display. The bottom port of the device has a USB-C port and a speaker grille. There is also another speaker grille at the top. Onleaks says that dimension-wise, the tablet will measure 254.3 x 165.8 x 6.7mm.

Apart from this, the leaked renders don’t reveal any additional details of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Earlier in April this year, two Tab S9 models appeared on Geekbench. Although the names of the upcoming offerings were not mentioned, the Tab S9 FE is expected to be powered by an Exynos 1380 processor coupled with 8GB RAM.

It remains to be seen if Samsung will launch the Fan Edition models of the Galaxy Tab S9 at the Unpacked event later this month.
