Apple Working On A Affordable Vision Pro Headset, Could Launch In 2025

At Apple’s annual worldwide developer conference (WWDC) that took place last week, the Cupertino-based tech giant made a host of announcements. One of the announcements was about the much-rumored mixed reality headset called Apple Vision Pro which the company unveiled at the event. It packs ground-breaking specifications and features but carries a whopping price tag of $3,499 making it impossible to position for mass adoption.

Apple vision Pro

Now in a new development, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is working on a cheaper model of the Vision Pro headset. This will make the device more accessible to the masses. The future headset could be called Vision or Vision One. The Cupertino-based tech giant could make several adjustments to lower the price. This includes the usage of lower-tier screens, less powerful processors, cutting down and, on the number of cameras. The next headset could also require AirPods for spatial audio feature instead of a built-in speaker.

Alongside the adjustments to reduce the cost of the next Vision headset, Apple will also aim to retain some of the core features such as the external EyeSight screen and the hand-tracking system.

Gurnam adds that Apple plans to launch the cheaper model of the Vision Pro by the end of 2025 which is two years from now. A second-generation Vision Pro is also said to be in the pipeline.

The report also revealed that Apple was initially thinking of delaying the announcement of the Vision Pro’s price due to negative publicity but decided to give everyone nine months’ time to absorb the cost before the headset hits the market.

Sony’s Micro-OLED Panels Drive Up Cost of Apple Vision Pro

Apple’s mixed reality headset is making headlines again. Last time we talked about it, we discussed the possibility of the company not being able to use the Vision Pro name in China. Now, the mixed reality headset is making headlines because of its hardware and costs. The headset, which was announced at WWDC 2023, is expected to sell for $3,499. However, it is reportedly only costing Apple $1,519 to make. This is because the company relies on Sony for supplying high-cost micro-OLED panels for the headset, while LG Display provides regular OLED panels for the external display. Here are the details…

Apple Vision Pro to Feature Sony Internal Displays, LG Display External Displays

We all know that the Apple Vision Pro is expected to be expensive. Apple has announced a price of $3,499, but recent leaks have revealed that the actual production cost is less than half of that, at $1,519. Of course, this is just the production cost, and does not include other expenses such as research and development, marketing, and customer support. However, this doesn’t change the fact that even manufacturing this product is expensive. Apparently, one of the major reasons for the high cost is Sony’s latest technology micro-OLED panels.

Apple Vision Pro

According to the latest reports, Apple Vision Pro, will have two different types of displays. The internal display will use Sony’s micro-OLED panels, while the external display will use regular LG OLED panels. Micro-OLED panels are considered to be the best type of display for XR headsets, as they offer superior image quality and contrast. However, they are also more expensive than regular OLED panels. As a result, Apple is using Sony’s micro-OLED panels for the internal display.

Sony has been a pioneer in the development of micro-OLED panels. The company first developed micro-OLED panels for use in its PlayStation Vita handheld gaming console in 2011. In recent years, Sony has continued to develop micro-OLED panels for use in a variety of products, including its Xperia smartphones and its Aibo robotic dog.

On the other hand, LG Display is the world’s leading manufacturer of OLED panels. The company has been producing OLED panels for use in TVs, smartphones, and other products for over a decade. LG Display’s OLED panels are known for their high quality and their ability to offer deep blacks and vibrant colors.

Maimang A20 5G with 50MP camera to launch on June 15

The Maimang brand was introduced as a collaboration between Huawei and China Telecom. As the former was banned from selling 5G devices, it transferred the ownership wholly to the latter in 2022.

Since then, the carrier has been releasing 5G-enabled handsets. The latest one called Maimang 20 was just launched in April.

Two months later, the operator has confirmed to debut yet another phone later this week.

Maimang A20 5G

The upcoming Maimang-branded smartphone is officially called Maimang A20 5G. It is scheduled to launch on June 15.

The teaser poster for the phone reveals its main camera. It also slightly showcases the design.

From the image, we can tell that the handset will sport a 50MP main camera. Further, its design resembles the Huawei Enjoy 50z (aka Huawei Nova Y61) from last year.

Thus, there’s a chance that Maimang A20 5G could be a 5G version of Enjoy 50z for China Telecom customers.

If this is the case, then we can expect the device to arrive with a 6.52-inch HD+ display with a dewdrop notch. It may have two 2MP sensors for macro and depth on the rear and a 5MP front-facing camera.

For biometrics, it will likely feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Finally, it could be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 22.5W wired charging.

Anyways, we will know everything about this product soon as it is only a few days away from going official.

Google Pixel Watch Is Getting SpO2 Measurement Function

Google launched the Pixel Watch in October last year. Now, the search giant’s first-ever smartwatch is gaining a vital feature that should have been available since its launch. The feature is none other than the SpO2 measurement that is commonly found in most wearable devices today. Google has finally caught up to its competitors by activating it.

Pixel Watch now gets SpO2 measurement

A few Pixel Watch users took to Reddit to share images of the dedicated oxygen saturation card. It appears below the Sleep Score in the smartwatch’s Fitbit Today app and provides a percentage for the user’s ‘last sleep session’. Tapping on it reveals an additional explanation on what the score means. The Pixel Watch is already equipped with a sensor to measure SpO2 levels. However, the feature was not available probably due to the lack of FDA approval. A SpO2 sensor is capable of monitoring oxygen levels in the blood.

Prior to the latest feature on the Pixel Watch, users had to measure the estimated oxygen variation which indirectly measures the changes in blood oxygen saturation levels. However, a SpO2 sensor is a more reliable measurement of oxygen levels than EOV.

The rollout of the SpO2 measurement on Pixel Watch appears to be slow with only a small number of people receiving the functionality. But it’s great news for users since they are getting a vital feature. At the moment, it’s unclear how the function is rolling out but it should be available soon for everybody.

Vivo Y27 5G shows up on Geekbench with Dimensity 6020 SoC

After launching the Y35m and Y78 smartphones last month, Vivo is now working on a new smartphone called the Vivo Y27. The device has already emerged on the NCC and EEC certification websites as well as the Google Play Console. These listings have previously revealed the specifications of the upcoming smartphone. Now, the device has emerged on Geekbench revealing its performance.

Vivo

According to its Geekbench listing, the device identified by the model number V2248 features an octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 2GHz and a boost clock speed of 2.2GHz. This processor is speculated to be the Dimensity 6020.

Vivo

The listing also mentions that the device is equipped with 8GB of RAM and runs on the Android 13 operating system. In the Geekbench 6 tests, the device achieved a score of 595 in the single-core test and 1770 in the multi-core test. The listing does not mention any further details about the device, so let’s look at what is known from the previous leaks.

Based on leaked specifications, it is speculated that the Vivo Y27 5G might be a rebranded version of the Vivo Y36 5G. If this is the case, the Y27 5G is likely to sport a 6.64-inch LCD FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to come with a dual-camera system consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel secondary camera. For selfies, it may feature a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Additionally, the Y27 5G is rumored to be powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging.

realme 11 Pro+ 5G Full Review: All you need is this one camera

Two years ago, we reviewed a mid-range phone. It wasn’t very powerful, but it used a 108 MP main camera, making it the best phone for taking photos in its price range. Now, two years later, we also received a mid-range phone from a different brand. It has exactly the same idea as that phone from two years ago. This one, realme 11 Pro+ 5G, tries to use its 200MP main camera to make taking pictures enjoyable for everyone as a budget phone.

Camera

If you are interested in this realme 11 Pro+, then you should be in for its powerful main camera. That 200MP, 1/1.4-inch sensor and OIS support main camera does sound great. This is a phone that costs around $300, and no one in its price range should have a better main camera than it. Indeed it didn’t let us down, I took a lot of photos and every one of them was beautiful.

realme used this Ultra-high resolution sensor mainly to enable the budget phone without a telephoto lens the ability to shoot from a long distance away. So can the 11 Pro+ really do that?

For the most time, it really can. Whether you crop it yourself using the 200MP mode or just hit the zoom button, the sharpness is shockingly good, because the size of photos taken in 200MP mode is so large. But the dynamic range is not as good as it in auto mode, I still recommend that you shoot directly by clicking the zoom button.

There are two advantages to using an Ultra-high Resolution Image Sensor: First, you can zoom in 1 to 4 times and still have good clarity. You can even shoot objects at longer distances when the light is good.

Second, its main camera can be used as a telephoto lens as well as a macro lens. Telephoto cameras have a long closest focus distance, so it’s hard to get close enough to shoot objects. realme 11 Pro+’s in-sensor zoom technology can solve this problem.

At night, as long as the light is not super low, the performance is also better than I expected. Photos are also not so blurry as to be unusable at all. There’s only one situation where it would be worse than a phone with a telephoto camera, and that’s low light combined with high contrast scenarios. We can’t expect it to capture any scene perfectly with just one lens. After all, it’s not expensive for most people.

This time a new feature has been added to Street mode, which can quickly help you zoom in on some areas. You click on an area, and it will crop and zoom in on that place. This feature may help you capture more fleeting scenes when your phone is clipped to a tripod.

Since both in-sensor zoom and 200MP mode cannot be used in video recording, ultra-long distance recording is not possible. Plus the processor performance limitations, EIS is not supported when shooting with 4K resolution. it seems that recording videos in 1080P would be a more sensible choice.

Design

Although it’s a $300 phone, it doesn’t look cheap at all. The main sunrise color scheme lies in the vegan leather back cover, plus the shape and position of this camera module, a very classic design. The symmetrical design looks good and the weight of less than 190g is relatively light among all phones.

Display

The curved screen also makes this phone look more expensive than it actually is. The quality of the OLED screen is actually good, with a 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit color depth. although the resolution is still 1080P, the PWM dimming frequency reaches 2160Hz.

As for other specs, it has everything except the IR emitter and headphone jack. Anyway, the design and screen are up to our expectations for a mid-range phone.

Performance & Gaming

The more regrettable part of this phone is the performance. Because it’s not expensive and has a super awesome main camera, some parts should be sacrificed for less. This Dimensity 7050 sounds awesome, but it’s actually just an upgraded version of the Dimensity 1080 and not a huge upgrade. It’s definitely no better than the Dimensity 8200 or Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, so you can’t expect much better gaming performance from it.

You can play PUBG without any problem but struggle a bit in Genshin Impact. Although we set the graphics at the recommended low level for the game as you can see, the average 40fps is still within an acceptable range as long as you can accept this graphics quality. Want higher graphics and frame rate, then it may not satisfy you.

Battery & Charging

realme 11 Pro+ supports up to 100w of charging power. 28% in 5 minutes and 23 minutes to fill this 5000mAh battery. Battery life also benefits from a low-power processor that will be a little better than flagship phones. As long as you don’t use it to play large games like the Genshin Impact, you should be able to charge it only once a day.

Photography has never been a cheap hobby, you need to spend thousands of dollars on cameras and lenses. Even flagship phones with good cameras start at $600. In China, the realme 11 Pro+ starts at roughly $300, and the global version isn’t expected to be much more expensive. Making photography fun for everyone with a phone, including people on a budget, should be the reason why realme 11 Pro+ was born.

OPPO Reno 10 Pro Plus Full Review: Flagship can also be thin and light

The Reno series is a very special series in the OPPO phone line. This series focuses on thinness, excellent selfie, and portrait photography, and is popular among younger ladies. However, the performance was not as good as similarly priced phones in the past, which made many people pass it up.

But since the Reno9 Pro+ used Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the Reno series no longer has any obvious weaknesses. And today we’re introducing the Reno10 Pro+ which has evolved again, and this time I think it will suit most people.

Design

Reno10 Pro+ has a completely different design than the 9th gen. The camera module has become a large oval shape. The text next to the periscopic telephoto camera also indicates that it uses the same MariSilicon X chip as the Find X series, and the camera system must be amazing.

The purple one we have looks frosted, but it is glossy to the touch. Less saturated, brighter colors should be more in line with the flavor of young people. The weight of less than 200g and the thickness of less than 9mm are also the proud strengths of the Reno series.

The only regret is that the frame is still plastic. I guess it’s a trade-off to reduce weight. But as a $600 phone, I personally still hope to use the metal frame.

Camera

he biggest upgrade to the 10 Pro+ should be this new camera. After many years, OPPO has finally brought back the periscopic telephoto camera on the Reno series. The OV64B sensor is 1/2 inch in size, which is a very large size for a telephoto camera.

As a shutterbug, I really enjoy the convenience that telephoto brings me. Especially in the city, you can avoid a lot of things you don’t want to shoot and make your photos more focused on the subject. As long as the light is not very low, this telephoto camera will be able to do its job well.

When you have to take a long-distance photo in a dark scene, then it will still give priority to using the main camera crop.

But honestly, this telephoto camera performance has been similar to that of most $800 flagship phones, and it’s clear even when zoomed in to 6x during the day. So this new telephoto lens must be better than you can think of.

The Reno series has always had a great portrait mode. Beauty and AI background bokeh has always been top-notch, and you can use both features on all lenses except the ultra-wide camera.

The beauty function will remove all the blemishes from your face. It makes the skin look smoother while the pores are still visible. This feature is designed for Asian women’s preferences, and if you don’t like it, just turn it off to get a realistic selfie. Thanks to the 32MP RGBW front camera, all the details can be preserved in very low light, which is super impressive.

In addition to portraits, portrait mode is also surprisingly good for other subjects. Adjust the virtual aperture, the photo will look like it was taken with a DSLR.

The main camera and telephoto camera support up to 4K 60fps video recording, but the ultra-wide camera can only record 1080P 30fps video. Something I can’t understand is that OPPO doesn’t allow you to use the ultra-wide camera in Pro mode, and you can’t record video in this mode.

What’s even stranger is that the telephoto camera can do 4K 60fps video recording, but 1080P 60fps can’t be used with this lens. This also means you can’t use this phone for more professional video creation. This is a great pity for me.

Performance & Gaming

The Reno10 Pro+ still uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. This flagship processor is good enough for most scenarios and performs very well on Benchmark. Although it does not use the latest 8 Gen 2, last year’s flagship processor is also very powerful.

In particular, the Reno10 Pro+ is surprisingly well-optimized for gaming. The temperature and power consumption are not too high. And it also only locks the frame at 53fps after 10 minutes. This is better than some 8 Gen 2 phones, so those who are worried about the poor performance of Reno10 Pro+ can not worry about this.

Display

The Reno10 Pro+’s screen specs are not top-notch, but they are still good. The resolution isn’t 2K, but it’s still sharper than 1080P. The peak brightness of 1400nit makes the HDR effect of this screen even better. So the ProXDR feature on the Find X6 is also found on the Reno10 Pro+. It will make your photos look even more shiny. Overall, it’s a good screen in all OPPO phones, the one just second to the Find X6 Pro.

Battery & Charging

The charging speed of 10 Pro+ has also been improved, from 80W to 100W. 27% is charged in 5 minutes and a full charge takes less than half an hour. Unfortunately, wireless charging is still not supported.

The battery capacity remains unchanged at 4700mAh. Since it is equipped with a more powerful chip and the battery capacity is not that large, the battery life does not give us any surprises.

Conclusion

As you can see, the Reno series is becoming more and more well-rounded, and the Reno10 Pro+ is the second flagship phone created by OPPO after the Find X6 Pro series. They are aimed at a different target group, if you care more about the weight, thickness, telephoto camera, and selfies of the phone. Then this is the ultimate answer for you from OPPO.

Nvidia GeForce Now to soon offer some Xbox Game Pass titles for PC

The Xbox Game Pass will soon be bringing some of its games to the Nvidia GeForce Now service for the PC. Microsoft is offering these as a part of its new expansion which will include Xbox Game Pass titles on the cloud gaming service.

Xbox Game Pass will soon share games with Nvidia GeForce Now

Microsoft recently signed a new deal with Team Green, which will bring select games from the PC version of Xbox Game pass to GeForce Now. These will offered alongside games that users have purchased through Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect as well. The news is interesting considering Microsoft also offers its very own cloud gaming service called xCloud. Although, this only works with a small number of devices.

Nvidia

Unfortunately, the entire Xbox Game Pass library isn’t making its way to the GeForce Now service. Rather, select titles that have yet to be revealed will be offered. Notably, this announcement also arrives mere days after Microsoft added in a couple of new in its Xbox Game Pass, which included the likes of Amnesia: The Bunker.

As per an official statement, “Today we shared that Game Pass members will soon be able to stream select PC games from the library through Nvidia GeForce NOW. This will enable the PC Game Pass catalog to be played on any device that GeForce NOW streams to, like low spec PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, mobile devices, TVs, and more, and we’ll be rolling this out in the months ahead.”

Apple 15 inch MacBook Air with M3 chip reportedly in development

Apple is apparently working on a new MacBook Air model that will feature its cutting edge M3 series chipset. The company just recently unveiled a new 15 inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip during the WWDC 2023, but a new report hints at its successor.

Apple working on a 15 inch MacBook Air with M3 chip

The Cupertino based giant is claiming that the latest MacBook Air with the M2 chipset is the world’s thinnest 15 inch laptop model with a mere 11.5mm thickness. However, it appears that this model will get a refresh that features an even more powerful chipset. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone maker’s new updated line will soon begin to manufacture MacBook Air models with the next gen M3 processors.

Apple

The report added that this new laptop model will launch sometime in 2024, which is in line with one of our previous reports. For those unaware, the M3 SoC is the successor to the M2 and offers various improvements like energy efficiency and performance upgrades. Furthermore, this chipset will be based on the 3nm TSMC process that will power a 13.6 inch and 15.3 inch MacBook Air. The M3 chipset will likely feature a core count similar to the M2, so we can expect the base M3 to feature an 8 core CPU and up to 10 core GPU.

Apart from this, Gurman also added that Apple is working on a new iMac model as well as a MacBook Pro, which will also be powered by the M3 chipset. The report adds that the upcoming iMac with M3 chipset will be similar to the M1 iMac that was launched in the past. Gurman believes that the iMac will be launching around the first half of next year, although, the launch of the M3 based MacBook Pro model is still unclear.
